The River Waveney marks the border between Norfolk and Suffolk and Mendham Mill sits astride the river, surrounded by hundreds of acres of beautiful water meadows. Four award-winning cottages which include the stunning Georgian Miller’s House have been created from houses, a granary, and other estate buildings. The owners are on hand assisting visitors who wish to fish or make use of the canoes or rowing boat in the sparkling private waters of the river. With places like Southwold, Aldeburgh and Norwich all within easy reach Mendham Mill is ideally located.
From start to finish, all was excellent and wonderful: the communication with Nick and James, the proprietors, their welcome, the absolutely lovely location and building(s) ...We six (60 plus women) stayed in the Miller's House (4 bedrooms, a well-equipped kitchen and dining area and a living room) and were very comfortable. It is peaceful and quiet and within walking distance of the tiny town where there is a very good restaurant. Otherwise, a car is essential, for exploration farther afield into the beautiful surrounding countryside. All is very relaxing and perfect for an excellent restful...more
Very well though out accommodation, gorgeous gardens, excellent hosts are some of the reasons we return as often as possible to The Nest. Breakfast watching a kingfisher, canoes, walking, well equipped games room, paddleboard, swimming all lovely. Not to mention a grand piano, just wish Nick would cover his ears! Big thanks to James and Nick who make it all possible.
If heaven was a place on earth, this would be it. Perfect spot for a holiday with 2 teens. Something for everyone in the family. I enjoyed relaxing by the river. My husband enjoyed fishing. My kids enjoyed the games room and goats. We all enjoyed the kayaks on the river. Kingfishers, herons, abundant fish, dragonflies, cows and swans all by the river. Comfy house, generously stocked with the little bits most houses don’t offer such as foil and kitchen roll. Charming hosts. Clean and welcoming accommodation. Enjoyed easy trips to Southwold, Aldeburgh, Beccles, and Oasis camel park. Recommend th...more
Such a peaceful, beautiful location. Lots to do on site. Even just sitting watching the ducks, swans or fish in the river. Or make the most of the games room. It has a huge secure garden, best ever for our escape artist dog, if there’s a way out he would find it. But no escaping those walls. Which also makes it extremely private. We were lucky with the weather and made use of the sun loungers provided in the garden. Lots of parking available outside the Lodge. Paid the extra fee to also benefit from being able to charge our electric car.
The lodge has a well equipped kitchen. Very comfortabl...more
