Gitcombe Retreat is the most recently completed of several cottages on an estate. We took 3 cottages and this was the best by a margin, though the others were also good. Large kitchen/diner excellently appointed with a gratifyingly large dining table. Comfortable sitting area. Wonderful views from a well designed and safe balcony. Bedrooms/bathrooms good. Appliances all modern some of which tested the more elderly. Wifi/mobile reception poor. Good indoor and outdoor pools for use of all cottages, suitable and safe for smalls. Good play area for children. Use of a tennis court in...more
We are a family of four (two sons aged 24 and 21) just returned from a wonderful peaceful week at Gitcombe. We stayed in the Coach House, which was the perfect size for us. The cottage was lovely, spotless, comfortable and of a very high standard. The kitchen had everything that you could need and we lit a cosy fire every night. We all loved the indoor pool, steam room and sauna and spent many hours in the outdoor hot tub gazing at the beautiful views and cows on the hill. The pool complex was like a luxury spa and super clean. It is amazingly quiet, with no distant road or airplane nois...more
We stayed at Gitcombe House with our 2 daughters, son-in laws and 2 grandchildren. Loads of space in the house although we didnt use the formal dining room. The house is equipped with everything you need, plenty of china, glasses, pots and pans etc. The 2 pools were great and we also used the tennis court daily. Children absolutely loved it. Surrounding area beautiful although satnav took us down some of the smallest roads ever! Only small criticism, the ensuite bathroom is not the same standard as the other bathroom which was disappointing. Would love to come back.
A wonderfull retreat, excellent for families with small kids. Our three girls enjoyed every minute of it. We had a blast and Peter and Emma are really friendly, hospitable hosts!
Perfect short break for 3 generations! Idyllically situated.Lots to do for 3 and 5 year olds and good walks for grandpa.
Arrived home from our stay at Gitcombe yesterday, we were sad to leave as we’d had such a lovely time. We stayed in one of the cottages with our toddler who also enjoyed it thoroughly. The grounds, setting, scenery are all so beautiful and we felt so welcomed by the lovely owners and not forgetting Wilson the dog :)
We stayed at Gitcombe in Yannadon Barn for just 4 short nights in July 2019 - but what an amazing time we had! The site is so well kept, and our barn had everything that we needed - we even had our own private terrace to sit out on each evening. The indoor pool and hot tub where perfectly situated with views to die for, and we spent a couple of lazy mornings there, enjoying time to de-stress and unwind, chilling out with a good book in between a swim or two! The wonderful Maltsters Arms pub in Tuckenhay provided us with the best Sunday roast I think I have ever eaten, and it's perfect fo...more
Simply the best of the best. We’ve had a super family holiday (third) in this beautiful place and will return again and again. We all love Gitcombe.
We stayed in Haytor, Burrator and Gitcombe Retreat. Reviews separately on the other property sites. The overall setup for a relaxing time away is great-so long as you don't have to be permanently contactable. There is an excellent tennis court and 2 decent pools, see comments later. The accommodation is well appointed and (for the main couple) comfortable but there is not much space and the wifi and mobile reception were poor. The property Haytor is kitchen/diner/sitting area on the upper floor and 3 bedrooms downstairs. It is compact and rather tight for 6 (sleeps 2 adults in a double...more
