We spent a blissful 6 nights at The Retreat. It proved to be perfect for all 3 generations to enjoy a relaxing break. We were incredibly lucky with the January weather and made the most of the play park, the lovely walk to Tuckenhay and easy day trips to Blackpool Sands, Dartmouth (with a trip on the passenger ferry to Kingswear) and Totnes. Indoors, the Retreat is simply the best property we have ever stayed in: exceptional interiors, well stocked kitchen and you just can’t take your eyes off the views! Our 2 year old loved the indoor pool so much she had to be bribed to get out most days! It...more
This was our first visit to Gitcombe so all my expectations were based on the website, and honestly it far exceeded my expectations. Not to say that the website isn't great, you just need to visit in person to understand the beauty of the place. The Garden House, where we stayed, was beautiful, had everything we could need (including for 2 very young children), and was clean and comfortable. The facilities are wonderful for children, our daughters swam every day, played on the swings (too young for the climbing frame at the moment), and if there was ever a spare half hour would want to run up ...more
Beautiful setting with added bonus of pool, sauna, steam room, hot tub and tennis. Peaceful and relaxing.
This was our second stay at Gitcombe House for a special celebration with extended family. The house is perfect for a large family group (of all ages), well equipped very clean and brilliant facilities for infants and children. All the family enjoyed the stay, especially the special meals in the fabulous dining room. The owners are extremely helpful and hospitable, very accommodating, we look forward to our next return visit.
Our holiday went very well and being in a lovely rural situation was a plus. You are not very far from places like Dartmouth and Totnes so there is plenty to do in February.
This was our second visit to Gitcombe and it was wonderful to be back! We relaxed very quickly with the help of the peaceful, beautiful grounds, the pools and especially the hot tub overlooking the most glorious views. Thank you again for such a wonderful stay, we’ll see you next year.
A lovely place to stay in a great location with lovely maintained grounds and facilities. The barn was perfect for us three just the right size although the spiral stairs were a bit of a challenge for my elderly mum. An upstairs cloakroom is needed here. The pool was lovely and warm and the hottest jacuzzi I’ve ever been in.
Our family of 4 (kids aged 5 & 8) enjoyed an idyllic long weekend at Gitcombe and have already recommended it to many friends and family. The estate is beautifully maintained, stylish and luxurious. The kids would have spent the whole times flitting between the indoor pool, hot tub, outdoor pool and play area if we'd let them but we did manage to lure them away a few times and enjoyed a fun-filled day at Woodlands Adventure Park (only 8mins away in the car) and a fabulous fresh seafood lunch overlooking the boats at the Anchorstone Cafe in super pretty Dittisham - An absolute MUST on a sunny ...more
