Creel cottage,Dairy House, The Old Cheeseloft and Byre by the Sea, coastal self catering holiday cottages , pet friendly and situated on the coast with uninterrupted views out across the Ross Bay, in the beautiful Stewartry District of South West Scotland. Sited on the picturesque Solway Coast. The sea is only a stones throw from the cottage! Location, location, location……when you want to get away from it all!
Having stayed at all the other cottages belonging to Sue and David this is a chip off the old block, the same good quality fixtures and fittings, it is comfortable and clean and with everything that you need for a relaxing holiday. It has the added bonus that there is no through traffic and no footpath in front of the cottage, it is splendidly isolated at the end of a narrow road with only one neighbour and with a view overlooking Ross Bay towards the other cottages of the retreat. If you are looking to get away from it all this cottage should definitely be on your short list Sue has put a lo...more
Another lovely holiday at The Old Cheeseloft. Sue has thought of everything you could possibly need and the cake and ice cream are delicious treats.
Fantastic views of the sea, deer and birds, spent a lot of time watching the tide coming in and going out, so relaxing.
Already booked for next year, can't wait
Fantastic cottage in an absolutely gorgeous location. Sue wants all her guests to have their best time on holiday, and the personal touches with the local ice cream and home baked cakes topped this off nicely.
The area is amazing, we've had loads of trips to Scotland but mainly west coast, north and islands, so D&G was new to us. Not disappointed, really friendly people and the area is brilliant. Galloway Forest Park being a particular delight, and I really loved Wigtown, being a veteran of Hay Festival.
The Dairy House is beautifully positioned if you are after a peaceful break away. The house is very comfortable, and the views out of the retreat room make it a great place to sit and read, or just watch the tide come in. It is tricky to get down on to the beach, and my wellies got stuck in the mud a couple of times - bear this in mind if you are planning daily strolls on a sandy beach! That said there are plenty of other places nearby to do this.
We had a couple of maintenance issues during our stay, but Sue was very quick to respond to our concerns.
Plenty of things to do in the area - we...more
Couldn’t have got a better location for what we wanted (fishing/walking/exploring local area)! Small but perfectly formed, The Retreataway was ideal for us with beautiful views and easy access to the surrounding area. We both slept soundly as it’s so peaceful and there was homemade cake and a tub of local ice cream left for us to enjoy… we would definitely stay again! Thank you ☺️
This is our fourth visit to this superb cosy cottage. We are normally summer visitors but decided this year to visit in November so we could visit the York Christmas market.
Everything was perfect with the cottage as always. Sue has thought of everything. We lit the fire each night and enjoyed the living flame. The dogs loved the garden and had great fun taking zoomies round and round.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay but prefer it in the summer when our grandchildren can join us as they love it too
