We came back from one week in Massa Lubrense - which is a very charming and ideal place to stay for a week. We checked in late due to the awful traffic from Naples to Massa Lubrense (two hours on a Saturday night).
Overall pluses:
- Big house - accommodates 6-8 people easily.
- Decent grounds - the pizza oven was the best feature
- Walking distance to a number of local markets - this was really a great spot to be located.
- Great restaurants 5-10 min walk away - Il Cantucci was our favorite.
- Great location to explore Amalfi.
- Daily staff - Filomena/Philomena (SP?) and the pool/grounds keeper was wonderful and very helpful.
- Beautiful setting and some decent views from not necessarily convenient patios to reach.
- Grounds had plenty of mature fruit trees and overall - a very nice setting.
- Accommodating owner - tried to help out with the issues when they arose.
Overall negatives
- The house needs some TLC. I think the owner should throw out most of the kitchen items - go to Ikea and restock the entire kitchen entirely.
- Spotty internet - very slow usually - if you have a lot of demand for wifi - this may be a problem for you.
- Ants..ants..ants..small ones - but they should have a regular exterminator around the property
- Overall house was musty in the lower levels - probably due to age or some water intrusion at one point.
- Biggest drawback was the steep driveway you had to walk up to to get to the house - probably 100-200 yards - and most taxi's cannot get up the driveway due to the narrowness. So you will be walking a lot when you get back from your excursions. Very difficult to get luggage up and back - although Mr. Davide the owner was very helpful in accommodating this with a small vehicle to bring our luggage back the day we left.
They should disclose the driveway in the advertisement. If you're not in the best shape (i'm in good shape - but a few of our guests over 60 - weren't happy with that climb) you should consider if this is the place for you. It will limit your desire to leave the house frequently if you have that daunting climb and cars can't pick you up.
A week on the Amalfi Coast

Excellent location for Amalfi coast and Sorrento. Wonderful old Italian property with plenty of features. Beware if you have a large car - it will have to be left on road some distance away and a steep climb on foot will be involved. Watch out for services provided contract states initial, midweek and final cleaning included but we did not get any midweek service and we seemed to be paying for twice for final cleaning. It would also have been nicer if the lawn had been trimmed. Property seems to have several different names. This is confusing.
