As per title, this was our fourth time staying at Old Oak Cottages, and our third New Years visit in a row.
We love staying at Wren cottage, for the 2 of us (plus the dog) it is perfectly sized.
This time we also had friends staying in Owl at the same time as we had raved about this place so much to them.
Weather this time was cold, but clear and crisp - just perfect for some lovely walks, we also visited Knaresborough for the first time this year, and our annual trip to Harrogate.
New years meal was the regular visit to The Forresters Arms in Kilburn. We also had a lovely meal in ...more
“We aren’t staying very long. Please can we stay longer?” pleaded our five year old grandson. He was unwittingly echoing our sentiments too.
Badger is a wonderfully light, very comfortable, well appointed and well equipped, spacious cottage with a nice garden. The cottages are very peacefully located and Badger was spotlessly clean. We arrived on a very hot day. We opened some doors and windows such that Badger became nicely airy. Conversely on the cold evenings it was very cosy. We booked the cottage for an early season week away with the grandchildren. The cottage was very well appointed and comfortable, nice and warm.
The weather is cold, but we still had some nice walks and enjoyed the swimming pool
I would recommend the walk round the White horse
A very comfortable and peaceful place to stay with excellent facilities. Ideal for children, particularly the swimming pool and play areas. Off the beaten track with planty of open farmland and countryside but still within 15 minutes of Thirsk.
The cottage was very clean , well equipped and is in a beautiful location, with views across the fields towards the White Horse. The beds , sofa and armchairs are very comfortable and there is an outside area with a table and chairs. A generous welcome basket , containing items such as jam, bread, biscuits was greatly appreciated and our dog was very grateful for the dog biscuits !
The indoor swimming pool was great and we thought it an excellent idea to have a rota for the use of the pool, with some slots being for use by any of the guests.

We had such a good stay, blessed by good weather, which always helped. The views were stunning and it was great to be able to ride bikes, play tennis, play in the play area, see the animals and go for walks. It was chilly in the evenings but the fire was a lovely option to have. We would love to stay again!
The family were lovely and it was a treat to stay there and enjoy Yorkshire - there’s so much more we want to do and see!
