Set in its own orchard garden, Heather Barn is a spacious single-storey conversion offering accessible accommodation of the highest standard. The cottage is all on one level, so is perfect for the less mobile guest, for wheelchair users (National Accessible Scheme graded M3) and for toddlers. Both bedrooms are ensuite - bedroom 1 has a level-entry wetroom and stylish chrome and stainless steel DocM fittings. Bedroom 2 has a shower bath. In both bedrooms, the beds have pocket sprung ziplink mattresses and can either be arranged as a superking double or as twin beds. IThe large (480 sq ft) open plan sitting/dining/kitchen area is double height, with exposed beams, quadruple doors and a part-glass roof, creating a really light an airy space with great views over the orchard garden to the far hills.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Heather Barn with our dog. We had the place to ourselves on the days we were there, with nothing but the sound of birdsong, a tawny owl, and sheep in the nearby field. I enjoyed Central Bark as much as our dog as it was just heaven to sit and look at the Bodmin Moors, while rabbit chasing was taking place in the secured area.
Heather Barn is fully wheelchair accessible complete with a wetroom. The cottage/barn conversion is very spacious and kitted out luxuriously and we didn't want for anything. Louise and Damian are fabulous hosts, and supplied us with tons of info both before and during our trip, including which pubs etc were wheelchair accessible and dog friendly.
The views across the lawned grounds were amazing from the hot tub. We definitely want to return when the weather is warmer so we can enjoy the outdoor areas even more. Thank you for your amazing hospitality.

The barn had everything we could wish for, the welcome packs for us & the pooches were amazing. We had a very relaxing break, the hot tub was fantastic! Two of us took advantage of the free use of the local spa & leisure facilities, we also pre booked treatments there which were great.
Our four dogs loved the large secure paddocks where they could run freely. The only thing we would have liked is a larger secure garden around the property for the dogs to come & go without supervision as they kept chasing the squirrels.
We would definitely stay again

We had a great time during our stay in the Heather Barn at Kernock Cottages. Good pre-stay communication from our hosts, and a super warm welcome upon arrival. Our doggies really appreciated the toys and yummy pup cakes gifted to them, and we really enjoyed the welcome pack of food and drink stuffs. Dog towels and sofa throws were provided and there was a warm water outdoor dog wash too. Very useful information provided about where to shop, eat, and outings/walks. Lovely touches of gift size toiletries in the bathrooms and plenty of fluffy towels and bathrobes. We relaxed and drank prosecco in the hot tub in the evening. The dog field was so great for our dogs, they were positively straining at the leash to go there and play ball. Thank you for a lovely stay

A Gem.

We were 2 couples with 2 dogs staying in Heather Barn. The Barn was very comfortable well equipped accommodation ideal.
The dogs were very happy with the toys and biscuits left for them. We all enjoyed the space great area for excising dogs. The goodies left for us were certainly appreciated. Thank you to Damian and Louise for being great hosts.

Lovely location, clean and comfortable. Central Bark was great for our dog.

We really enjoyed our stay in Heather Barn. The welcome pack was much appreciated - the humans loved the sausages and the dog loved her Pupcake! Everything was clean, tidy and overall very comfortable. Great that Damian & Louise welcomed us when we arrived and Damian also checked in with us before we departed for our long journey home. We could not have asked for anything more for our dog, as Central Bark was great for long distance ball throwing, but would also be good for dogs who might prefer the woodland areas. We didn't think we'd actually use the hot tub and it was not one of the reasons why we booked, however once we tried it we loved it. The local pub the Weary Friar was very welcoming and the food was good. We also tried a few other places recommended by Kernock Cottages, and took their advice about local dog friendly beaches, all of which were great. If it were not for the very long journey (and the tiny single-track road because of the current diversions on the A38) we would definitely be returning very soon! Would definitely recommend to friends and family, with or without dogs.

We stayed at Heather Barn for our 20th Wedding Anniversary and it was just fabulous! The hosts Damian & Louise were so welcoming and helpful. The welcome pack was amazing, Eggs, sausages, bacon, bread, butter, tea, coffee, scones, jam, clotted cream, orange juice, milk and a bottle of prosecco! Even a pupcake treat and great toy for our dog along with a large bowl of water waiting in the garden on our arrival. There was everything you needed in the cottage and a large bbq in the garden. the beds were lovely and comfortable and high quality linen to go with it. Would not hesitate in recommending Kernock Cottages to anyone. We had a lovely relaxing stay and would certainly rebook for a return visit. Ziva our Rottweiler definitely wants to come back as she loved Central Bark and the huge garden we had gave her so much freedom along with the squirrels to chase!

We had an amazing stay from start to finish in Heather Barn. Damian and Louise at the outset sent very detailed information including description of cottage, facilities and directions. We had two (very well behaved) dogs and to be honest the holiday was planned around them. Damian and Louise were so friendly and helpful and made us all feel very welcome. They provided immeasurable information about places to go. We were unfamiliar with the area so this was perfect for us. It made such a refreshing change so many places allowed and welcomed the dogs.

The cottage was spacious and clean and had everything we needed. The welcome pack was perfect and even the dogs had their little welcome pack too!

We loved the park area to walk the dogs in the morning and last thing at night. The jacuzzi was a very relaxing and a lovely treat.

We would love to come and stay again and visit the places we didn't get around to seeing on this trip.

Damian and Louise are just the most amazing hosts, nothing is too much trouble. They provided a wealth of invaluable information about the local area. The cottage is well equipped, with everything that you could possibly need. We particularly loved using the jacuzzi first thing in the morning and after a day out in the evening. The grounds are stunning and very peaceful. Thank you so much for everything and for the yummy welcome pack- filled with local breakfast items and supporting the local community shop. Bliss!

Just had a two week stay at the beautiful Heather Barn everything is of a high standard the Barn is beautifully decorated and furnished it has everything you need in the kitchen. We received a welcome pack of locally produced food which was great for our breakfast the next day. The barn is perfect for dogs our dog received his own welcome pack including a toy of high quality and his own pupcake which he loved. The grounds are perfect for dogs to play they even have their own shower in the garden with warm water. The garden is stunning it has adequate furniture for eating in the garden and making use of the gas barbecue. The hot tub is fantastic under shelter so can even be enjoyed in the rain. The owners are so welcoming and attentive nothing is too much trouble and they provide some valuable information about the area. I rate Heather Barn 5* and strongly recommended it for a perfect holiday.

Without doubt the most comfortable and superbly dog friendly holiday accommodation I’ve stayed in. Damian and Louise made sure we had everything we needed, spoiled us with delicious local produce in the breakfast pack and the dogs with a lovely selection of gifts. Location was excellent and the facilities both in the property, and those provided outdoors especially for the dogs were excellent. We’ve booked our next stay already and can’t wait!

We stayed in Heather Barn in early June. Help was on hand to make sure we found Kernock Cottages with ease and had a warm welcome from Damien who provided us with a very smooth and informative handover. You couldn’t have asked for more with information on the local area to providing everything our cockerpoo would need. Treats, towel and toy with throws to keep the furniture clean and up together. Wonderful safe grounds where we frequently sat on the bench and enjoyed the far reaching views. We used the hot tub each day and dined at Inkie’s Smokehouse after a pleasurable walk around Goliath Falls. All in all we had a fantastic time.

We had a wonderful stay at Heather Barn, which was spacious, extremely well appointed and exceptionally clean. The hot tub on the deck was a firm favourite, with its own private and beautifully kept garden, not overlooked at all. Damian and Louise were perfect hosts and recommended many places to visit, including things to do and see, restaurants and beaches, offering first hand knowledge of the area and all it has to offer visitors. There are so many interesting places, that it is not possible to do it all in one trip. Looe and Polperro are nearby and worth a visit. The local pub, The Weary Friar, is a 10 minute walk along the lane from Kernock and is very welcoming and friendly - serving very good Cornish Cider!

This is a very comfortable, well-equipped cottage, set in a very peaceful country garden location. It was an ideal base from which to explore the beautiful Devon/Cornwall border, which was new to us. It was also a lovely place to just sit and relax outdoors on a sunny day. It is very dog-friendly and our Welsh Terrier had a great time chasing around in the Central Bark meadow.
Damian and Louise met us on arrival and gave us lots of information about places to visit, pubs, restaurants and cafes in the area, which we might not have discovered for ourselves. We were really impressed with the effort they made to ensure we had an enjoyable stay; such a contrast with many cottages where you just retrieve your key and fend for yourselves!

As a group of 4 friends with 3 dogs we found Heather Barn very comfortable. We didn’t want for anything in terms of equipment there was even a slow cooker! Luckily we were able to use the fab BBQ on 2 occasions so this is also a great addition to the facilities. Having such a peaceful location surrounded by nature was a real treat. Luxuriating in the hot tub at 8am with the birds tweeting was tranquil and not to be missed.
Damian and Louise were great hosts, there when needed with advice on local amenities or when additional household items were required but far enough away to feel private.
Would certainly recommend a stay at Kernock and we will be back to continue exploring this beautiful area.

Wonderful stay at Heather Barn. Very clean, well equipped accommodation in glorious surroundings. A warm welcome from Damian together with an excellent welcome pack for both us and our four dogs. Great local knowledge from Damian regarding places to eat and locations suitable for dog walking etc. Superb facilities for the dogs including Central Bark which they loved and the surrounding areas. The best dog friendly accommodation that we have ever stayed at. The Super sized beds were extremely comfortable, likewise the pillows. Highly recommended and we have already done so to our friends. Will definitely be going back.

We stayed in Heather Barn during a week of mixed weather. It was a perfect base to explore the area.
The cottage is very comfortable and provides absolutely everything you could need. The grounds are wonderful and perfect for the dog to enjoy
The only sounds heard are from the wildlife and the tranquility ensures perfect relaxation and good sleep
The view from the hot tub is amazing even in the rain and the wind!
Damian is an excellent host and really cares about the comfort of his guests.
It really is a perfect dog friendly venue if you want tranquility and peace and lots of places to visit nearby

We spent a lovely week at Heather Barn. It was a beautiful setting and it was obvious and Damian and Louise had given a lot of thought and time to providing everything you could need. Our dog absolutely loved Central Bark as it was fully enclosed and she could be let off her lead. We really appreciated the extensive welcome pack and the dog toy

We loved our stay at Kernock. We received such a warm welcome from Damian and nothing was too much trouble. We asked for some extra mobility aids for my dad, and they were instantly with us. The attention to detail with emails prior to our stay, directions, and then suggestions on what to do and where to eat was exceptional. The dogs loved their toys and treats, and the dog bark. We were even able to do some recall work as it was totally secure.

Kernock Cottages quite simply have the best amenities we've ever had in a cottage. The place was spotless on arrival and our dog's every need was catered for (5 paw-print rating from her). Our teen loved the hot tub and the luxury bedrooms and we parents appreciated the quiet, the helpful communication from Damian and the electric car-charging facility. Highly recommended.

We thoroughly enjoyed a weeks holiday at Kernock cottages. The accommodation was excellent and we were well looked after by Damian and Louise. Great location. Perfect if you have dogs with direct access to a dedicated, safe, enclosed and picturesque field/wood, complete with waste bins. Abiding memory will be relaxing in the hot tub as the sun set, listening to tawny owls. I have no doubt we’ll be back again (for a third time).

We stayed at the Heather Barn in Kernock over the February half term, the only thing that wasn’t great was the weather! We had a fantastic stay thanks to Damian and Louise warm welcome, endless recommendations for local places to visit and eat (all turned out to be well worth it!!) and the amazing accommodation and grounds. We travelled with kids and our dog too and everything was at such high standard. The barn is fully equipped with everything you need and more and impeccably clean. The hot tub was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone, especially in the cold and misty weather! The gated Central Bark area was perfect for letting our dog run around in the safety of an enclosed space. If you are looking for a holiday in Cornwall, staying in amazing accommodation, where pets are truly welcomed and which is also a great base for exploring nearby sites and towns, Kernock is for you! We hope to be back soon!

Our stay at Heather barn was lovely despite the awful weather . Damian and Louise are fantastic hosts ensuring we had every detail possible, many recommendations etc. There is a great dog park on site which is a real bonus . The barn was comfortable and warm which we needed with the howling gales outside . Damian even offered for us to stay an extra night at no extra cost as the weather had been so bad which was very kind indeed .
I would definitely recommend Kernock cottages and hopefully we will be back with some sunshine’s time please

This is my 3rd visit to Kernock, and the high standards are still the same . Great communication from Damian before arriving and as always greeted on the day of arrival with a smile. My dog Harvey lives to have a free run in Central Bark on arrival to get rid of the stress of the drive and knew where he was straight away. The nest part of Heather Barn is the accessibility for my sister who requires a wheelchair and Damian always checks to see if we require any more aids during our stay. A pawfect getaway for all Thank you

This was our second stay, a different host but the accommodation was still spotless and had everything we needed.
Damien was warm, welcoming and informative. He gave us some good pointers on things to do which were suitable for our party.
The welcome food pack was delicious.
The weather was kind and I would highly recommend a walk along Bude Canal (wheelchair accessible). We had food on the canal side after our walk - highly recommended.
I would happily recommend Heather Barn whether you have accessible needs or not.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Kernock Cottages Heather Barn, and we will certainly be back! Right from the moment of booking through to waving us goodbye, Damian was helpful, thorough and welcoming. Nothing was ever too much trouble - we even added an additional dog last minute, changed our arrival date and put in a request for matches to light a birthday cake! We made the long trip down from Derbyshire totaling about 6 hours including a few stops, but it was absolutely worth it. When we arrived in the cottage, Damian was there to greet us and tell us all about the cottage and the local area. The handbook inside the cottage with details of beaches, pubs and activities was also helpful. We had five dogs with us, two of whom were elderly, so more than anything we just wanted an opportunity to relax and unwind, and Heather Barn was the perfect environment to do that. We spent most of our days playing board games, cooking food, walking dogs and chilling in the hot tub (with a few trips to the beach as well, of course). Central Bark, the enclosed dog walking field(s) was a particular highlight for us. It was great to be able to let the dogs explore knowing they were safe and couldn't get lost. Another highlight was the enclosed garden which the dogs could use to go to the toilet, which was also fitted with a warm shower to wash the dogs down with after a sandy trip to the beach. With five crazy cocker spaniels who all love the water, the hot water tap definitely got its use! The welcome packages were a lovely touch, and included everything the humans needed for breakfast the next day and some lovely treats and toys for the pooches. Thank you again to Damian for making our holiday so wonderful, we can't wait to visit again (hopefully with some better weather next time!!)

From booking to check out, the whole experience was exceptional. The property was spotless and well equipt with lovely homely finishing touches. The location is spectacular with stunning unspoiled views everywhere you look. Central Bark was a major plus and our dogs had the time of thier lives there, playing and running free, perfect way to start the day.The entire estate is beautiful as is the local area and villages, our hosts were knowledgeable and attentive and were happy to help with anything we needed. We genuinely enjoyed our stay here and hope to be back very soon.

In a word - Fabulous!!

We had a great week at Heather Barn, the accessible cottage within Kernock Cottages. The cottage is very well equipped and, best of all for accessibility, had plenty of space for a wheelchair and the equipment we brought with us (shower-chair/commode and portable hoist). We were able to reconfigure the bedroom to allow for the extra space we required.

On arrival we were greeted by Damian, who showed us around to cottage and the grounds, provided lots of useful information about places to visit nearby and provided a most welcome ‘welcome pack’.

We were very fortunate that the week we stayed occurred during a mini-heatwave (Sept 2023), so we were able to have great chill-out days at the cottage, or go out and about – the beach at East Looe is well worth a visit, as is the town of Looe.

Every day we made full use of the hot tub and we were able to get our son lifted out of his wheelchair into the hot-tub so that he could join us.

Damian was on hand when we needed something or for a bit of advice, but without being intrusive. And he also included us in the positioning of cameras to capture snap shots of the wildlife.

All in all, we had a fabulous week, very relaxing and the well-equipped cottage had just about everything we required. Highly recommended.

A little haven of loveliness.

Heather Barn was a beautiful property in tranquil surroundings. Damien and Louise were so welcoming making sure everything was suitable in meeting the needs of the active wheelchair user in our family. Nothing was too much trouble to make sure we had everything we needed and we are very grateful as every wheelchair user has different needs. The hardstanding parking area was large and spacious giving plenty of room for the car side lift to extend and still be able to navigate around it.
The large open plan inside the property was fantastic and the bedroom and bathroom spacious for moving around comfortably with the wheelchair. The lovely hamper that awaited us in the fridge was very welcoming and our Cockerpoo dog thought the same of her toy and treats! 'Central Bark' was excellent for the dogs to play in a nice secure area and plenty of space for the children to play too.
A wonderful property in a truly beautiful setting.

A little bit of paradise.

A wonderful property in a beautiful setting. Our dog had a wonderful time in Central Bark. Damian and Louise are fantastic hosts and have thought of everything. The welcome basket was lovely, really enjoyed our breakfast using the local produce Our dog soon demolished the treats left for her and loved the toy. Plenty of beautiful places to visit within easy reach of the property. Will definitely be returning again next year.

Heather Barn is a delightful open plan cottage. When we arrived, Damian and Louise were there to greet us and to show us around.
The property is very well equipped, providing a washing machine, dishwasher and microwave in addition to plates, cutlery, glasses etc. We appreciated supplies to enable using the dishwasher and washing machine as well as condiments, bin bags, washing up liquid ,cleaning products, toilet paper and dog poo bags. One of the two tastefully decorated bedrooms has a wet room which was ideal for my disabled son. My brother and sister in law commented on how comfortable their bed was.
Information packs are provided giving details of places to visit and local pubs and restaurants. The cottage has wi fi and in addition to a smart TV in the main room, each bedroom has a TV.
Outside in the attractive well maintained garden is a hot tub which we took advantage of.
We were very pleased with the welcome pack of a full English breakfast including bread, butter, tea and coffee plus a bottle of prosecco. Our labrador was also given welcome gifts of a toy and treats.A lovely touch.
The dog paddock is a great idea and we used it most days.
A couple of things which would make this excellent holiday home even better are: the opportunity to have a profile bed , a hoist (we brought our own).To be fair we were told that a previous guest had hired equipment . It would be good to have this information included in the information about the cottage. We were grateful for the wheeled shower chair which was most helpful.
The other point is around accessibility of local pubs and restaurants. Damian and Louise have taken a great deal of trouble to identify accessible places to eat and to visit. However, guests do need to check these themselves as the size and type of wheelchairs do vary. What suits one won't be ok for another.
Having said this, it didn't detract from our holiday.Damian and Louise are very welcoming , informative and helpful. I have no hesitation in recommending Heather Barn.

Very enjoyable stay, wheelchair user.

Very well appointed cottage with level access and plenty of space to move around. We were very well looked after by our hosts with many suggestions for places to visit. The spacious bed room and level access shower were excellent, The only possible improvement I can think of would be a profiling bed.
We all enjoyed our stay at Kernock and hope to be back.

We had a fantastic stay in Heather Barn, it was extremely comfortable , exceptionally clean, with beautiful grounds.
Our hosts went out of their way to make us welcome. They allowed us to hire in a hoist and profiling bed for my son , who is a wheelchair user. The accommodation was perfect and easily accessible for a wheelchair user. I would highly recommend it, we look forward to our next visit

I hadn’t visited Cornwall since childhood and had long looked forward to this break. I wasn’t disappointed.

I met up with a friend more familiar with the south west and we were both delighted with both the location and the cottage.

The cottage and site are maintained to a high standard, and are environmentally conscious. Heather Barn is very private with a vista of green to enjoy from the windows in each room; it would be easy to forget there was anyone else around. Yet access to Central Bark is just through a convenient pathway through the bordering hedge. My puppy thoroughly enjoyed exploring and playing in this wonderful dog park - the only dog park I’ve found with its own garden sculptures!

At the far end of the site are stunning hillside views, not to be missed.

The Kernock estate is situated in a wonderfully quiet spot, yet having very easy access to local amenities and very good road links. There is no shortage of things to do or places to visit in the immediate area, and the extensive information in the cottage is supplanted on arrival with the owners’ top ten tips.

Although the information is clear on the website, we hadn’t appreciated until we arrived quite how easy is access to north Cornwall from this base, ‘though for us that’s parked for subsequent visits. And subsequent visits there will be. Pre holiday information was all helpful and en pointe, and Louise and Damian were welcoming and responsive hosts. Everything to like. Thank you, Team Kernock!

The Hosts at Heather Barn were so helpful, during the booking and our stay. They provided extra equipment and recommended beaches, restaurants, pubs and attractions that suited our particular needs. Heather Barn was comfortably furnished to a very high standard and the welcome pack was a considerate treat, greatly appreciated. We spent our days exploring the stunning Cornish beaches and harbour towns then back to Heather Barn to take advantage of the alfresco private jacuzzi. Our young dog was also treated with a welcome pack & being able to run free in the secure acres of Kernock’s Central Bark. All made our stay at Heather Barn wonderful.

This was booked for a special birthday for my wife and I was looking to surprise her with flowers etc. on the actual day. Damian was very helpful in responding quickly to a number of questions prior to us arriving even to the extent of swapping accomodation at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances. He also recommended local businesses I was able to deal with for purchase and local delivery . Very helpful indeed.

On arrival we were met personally at the entrance and shown around the Heather Barn accomodation along with some orientation of the dog walking areas.
There is a very good information pack on the table which has a large amount of local recommendations for walks, beaches and pubs/restuarants etc.

The accomodation was extremely clean and well equipped as anything we required was available, along with a very substantial welcome breakfast pack for us with a doggy toy and treats for our dog.

The dog walking areas are large securely fenced fields and wooded area where our dog loved to go and run around or explore and was only a very short walk to get there.

We were left to enjoy our holiday without any interruptions, but Damian was always available through Whatsapp to respond to any questions or queries we had.

In summary, this is one of the best, if not THE best staycation we have had and I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a quiet rural escape, but with a choice to go to Plymouth or local towns if they want to explore further afield.

Will definitely return again in the future.

Absolutely perfect, we couldn’t fault a single thing.

On arrival we received a very warm welcome and various gifts for us and our 3 dogs. The cottage was beautiful, spotless and the owners couldn’t do enough to help us, providing us with lots of advice in local restaurants and walks with our boys. My daughter absolutely loved it here and the beds were so comfortable! We even received bottles of water for our journey home. We will definitely be staying again! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this stay to anyone, absolutely perfect in every way!

Immaculate cottage, great welcome pack , Damian met us on arrival and showed us around. He sent us loads of information on walks/pubs/shops etc. In quiet location, lovely hot tub and setting. Great for dogs, massive fenced field-fields for off the lead. Local pub was lovely, food nice too, all staff were very welcoming (The Weary Friar), only 10-15 min stroll down the lane.
Ideal for visiting the coast , narrow lanes but that's what you get in Cornwall.
Already recommended to family and friends, would love to return.
Thank you Damian and Louise.

Second visit to Kernock Cottages staying in Heather Barn. Was great to see Damian again and another warm welcome. Damian and Louise kept in contact leading up to our arrival and were quick to answer any questions. On this visit my sister and brother in law came with me and my dog amd they loved it. My sister requires a wheelchair and she was very impressed with the accessibility if the cottage . My dog Harvey loved Central Bank for a run off lead in a safe environment and was very happy with his welcome gift as were we. If I could give more stars for customer service I would. Waiting to get my leave approved from work for next year so can book again. Also highly recommend The Weary Friar pub, great food and also great customer service . Have already recommended to friends who have already booked to visit.

We've just returned from a lovely week staying in Heather Barn. The house had everything you could need for a week away, including a generous welcome pack for us and one for our 4 legged friend. Central bark was brilliant for our dog to have a good run/sniff around every morning.
Our daughter loved a soak in the hot tub watching the birds, we heard the owl on several occasions.
Damien and Louise were so welcoming and provided lots of information on various places to visit.
Would certainly recommend staying at Kernock if you have a dog or are looking for a peaceful break away for the family.

We have stayed at Kernock Cottages a few times now and have always found it clean and well equipped. We were surprised to find that the business has changed hands but the new owners made us feel as welcome as we have always felt and Heather barn felt as if it has been refreshed. The disabled facilities were really helpful for my husband without being in your face. Our dog is still sulking as he is missing the freedom he had in the grounds of the barn. He had a full week chasing squirrels, rabbits and finding tennis balls what more can he want.

We're pleased to hear that your return to Kernock was as good as previously, and that the disabled facilities suited your needs. We'd welcome you all back again and especially for your dog to take after those squirrels and rabbits again.

Just had a lovely week staying in Kernock cottages. Our cottage - Heather Barn, felt very secluded and private. Very well equipped. The welcome packs for us and our dogs were well thought out.
We enjoyed the hot tub which being undercover meant we could go in any time no matter what the weather - and we did have some rainy days.
On the doorstep of the cottage was Central Bark, which we wished we could transport home and have at the bottom of our garden ! It was fantastic to take our two dogs out so easily for a run. Beautiful views of the countryside and local farm land too. Tranquil at all times of the day.

Not too far to drive to Waitrose or Lidl to top up supplies. Plus very close to The Weary Friar pub, which we had a lovely evening at.

The hosts, Damian and Louise could not have been more welcoming on our arrival. Very helpful and definitely happy to help with any requirements. I had emailed questions prior to our stay and received prompt replies to everything I asked
Things like this make such a lasting impression and are part of what makes you return !
Thank you again for being such amazing hosts and providing such a high standard holiday setting.

We spent a week in Heather Barn with two 12 year old boys and our 2 year old springer spaniel. From the moment we arrived we felt very much at home. We had a fabulous welcome pack with lots of yummy goodies for us and the dog wasn’t forgotten either. The barn is set in a beautiful orchard (apples and pears on tap!) and the dog loved his new back garden! Every morning he would shoot out of the door to see off the rabbits and squirrels. Central Bark is perfect for off lead walks and exploring and has glorious views over the valley. The sunsets were magical! The boys had lots of room to play and with plenty of choice for beaches and activities within a 30 minute drive a great week was had by all. I was blown away by the standard of Heather Barn, everything you could possibly need was there. It was furnished beautifully, the beds were so comfortable and every little detail had been thought of. A fabulous spot to just sit back and relax (not that we got much chance to do that with children and dog in tow!) Damian and Louise were outstanding hosts. My son wanted rock pools so Damian immediately set about researching the best places and kept us updated with suggestions for days out and local events taking place while we were there. The information folder in the barn was brilliant and had details on dog friendly beaches, restaurants etc, all with sat nav postcodes. It meant we didn’t have to do our own research and was our ‘go to’ every morning as we decided what to do. Our favourites were the beach at Portwrinkle, a day trip to Polperro and dinner at the ‘Springer Spaniel’
Thank you for a wonderful stay. We’d love to come back as there was so much more to see and do and 1 week was not enough!

We had a wonderfully relaxing stay at Kernock Cottages (Heather Barn) in Cornwall. Very comfortable accommodation and the orchard garden was fantastic. Our dog loved the free space to roam and check out lots of new smells! It was so quiet too!
Lots of information available regarding places to eat, beaches to visit and other places of interest. Kernock offers a good base to go out and explore, both Devon and Cornwall.

Our first visit to Heather Barn after searching for a property with specific disability needs. Totally without fault, ensuring a brilliant holiday. The owners were so helpful and informative and we so appreciated this, having specific needs. Great local area and we found plenty to do, despite the sometimes unpredictable weather. A beautiful, high quality, spacious cottage with gorgeous outside space (our dog appreciated endless ball throwing!) and we both had a truly chilled holiday here. We’ll definitely be back as it’s a great find for us - roll on 2023!

Heather Barn provides M4S disability facilities and we were delighted that these met with your specific needs. We learned a lot from your visit, including how to arrange the hire of a wheelchair and walker from the local Cecily Baker charity for our guests to save them having to bring their own and thereby be able to pack their car with more personal items for their holiday. Your visits to Tamar Trails and Cardinham Woods brought us new information about places such as these that hire out Trampers for people with reduced mobility to be able enjoy these destinations; we are adding these to our portfolio of recommended places to visit. You were a pleasure to host, and we'd love to see you again. Damian & Louise

Our second stay here and in some ways it was better than the first. Some small improvements had been made by the new owners, Damian & Louise. Also visiting in the summer, we were able to make use of the outside seating and gas barbecue, which was excellent.
Overall, the standard of the equipment and the cleanliness was excellent. It was truly accessible for our daughter who is in a power wheelchair.
Damian & Louise made us very welcome, I really hope their new venture is successful.

We had a terrific short break at Heather Barn in February. The cottage was lovely with everything we needed, clean, warm and well appointed. Our host was superb, welcoming us when we arrived, on hand to answer any questions, but not intrusive in the least. The facilities for our dog were outstanding - knowing he was welcome (he LOVES his duck toy, thank you!), and having all the space we needed for him made it a really relaxing break. The hot tub was amazing and we really loved the location. Thank you so much.

We had a wonderful time. Damian and Louise are excellent hosts. As we had hoped the cottage was perfect for our active cocker spaniel with loads of private outside space (and of course not forgetting the central bark). Location is fab too with just a 10mins stroll to the local pub and within 30mins of excellent beaches. Can thoroughly recommend and is definitely on the list for a revisit.

We stayed at Kernock at the coach house 8 months ago and rebooked again after we returned, we then checked if Heather barn was free before asking friends and changing our booking, Heather barn is beautiful, 2 bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, 1 catered for the disabled as our friend has mobility issues, we didn’t travel around as much this time for that reason but enjoyed the tranquility of the grounds of the garden and the hot tub, we had 3 dogs with us who would definitely give it 5 stars they had a blast on the dog park and around the garden, Kernock has changed owners since we last visited and we couldn’t fault Damian, he’s very informative of the area and places to eat and always available if needed but leaves you alone to enjoy your holiday so keeping on with the tradition of the previous owner, our dogs loved their toys on arrival and the food and drink that was supplied was very much appreciated, all in all we couldn’t fault it, thank you Kernock!

We booked both Heather Barn and The Coach House for the week for a family holiday. We were met on arrival by Damian, who helpfully showed us around both cottages and was very knowledgeable about things to do in the local area. He was also easily contactable by phone during our break, if needed.

The cottages were clean, comfortable and well stocked, with everything you might need for a week away from home. The hot tubs were also clean and well maintained, and a great bonus when relaxing in the evening! The welcome packs for both humans and doggies were really thoughtfully put together, with good quality products for all, and even throws and towels to use for the dogs if you had not brought your own.

The site itself is beautifully maintained, with stunning views of the Cornish countryside, and the secure dog walking area meant that the dogs could safely roam off-lead, without any worries.

We had a great week and would highly recommend Kernock Cottages to anyone wanting a relaxing break away in a beautiful setting.

We chose Heather Barn because it was all on one level and one of our family has mobility issues. It suited the four of us and three dogs perfectly. Plenty of space to park the cars including the trailer with the Tramper! The Barn had everything we needed, was immaculately clean and there was a welcome pack that was much appreciated. Nothing was too much trouble for Damian and Louise who made sure we had everything we needed. The dogs absolutely loved it - Central Bark was brilliant as it meant they could run around to their heart’s content which they did each day. Kernock is in a lovely rural location with beautiful views across to Bodmin moor but is close enough to Saltash for supermarkets etc. The local pub, the Weary Friar, in Pillaton is well worth a visit and is very dog friendly. It was great having the hut tub to relax in at the end of a busy day sightseeing.
We had a lovely holiday at Kernock and would recommend it without hesitation. We are definitely hoping to return.

Thank you for your generous review. It was a pleasure to host your family here, and we're delighted that you all got so much from your break. It was good to see the Tramper getting to grips with Central Bark and forging its way across the landscape. Thanks for the recommendations and we hope to see you again soon.

This is our third time at Kernock and it never disappoints - our 3 dogs love it there and especially Central Bark where they can be off lead and explore.
The barn is beautifully done with everything you can need. The welcome is always very warm and I love the dog presents that are waiting when you arrive (and the bottle of fizz in the fridge is the perfect touch).
The surrounding area has so many beautiful places for 4 and 2 legs to explore and enjoy - and the local pub is definitely worth a visit.
We’ll be back 100%! Thank you for a wonderful stay - the 3 dogs were shattered when we got home.

It was such a delight hosting you here at Kernock, and to admire your gorgeous samoyed dogs. They covered the lawn like a pride of lions, so majestic yet docile in nature. We look forward to your 4th and 5th visits, and can't wait to welcome you back. And Jaffa looks forward to more time with the samoyeds.

Where do I start. From the first welcome they were there within seconds to great us with a very warm and friendly welcome. Very understanding about our needs and nothing was too much trouble. The welcome pack and dog welcome pack were absolutely perfect and the toy was well loved by our little dog. Central bark was amazing for us and really nice it's all enclosed so Baxter was able to explore freely. We loved the calm and tranquil feel of the place, the hot tub was a lovely way to unwind and relax. The cottage was perfectly accessible for a wheelchair user and we had a lovely stay. We would highly recommend and we would love to return.

We loved having you both here, and Baxter too. He was such a great character. The tranquility here is something mentioned by many people, so we're glad you found it the same and were unable to unwind.

We arrived Friday just after 4 thankfully our accommodation was ready early. It was lovely and warm like a home from home. We were met by Damian who was lovely so welcoming and warm. We were so worried as a young family we might not “fit in” so to speak however that worry was very quickly gone. The little touches really make this stay lovely from the food left for us to the bath soak and rubber duck for our children!. The hot tub is fantastic and placed so there is no privacy issues. We had no issues but I think if there was an issue nothing would be too much trouble. We had a little walk in the field just opposite the barn and the view at the bottom is stunning. We visited a few beach’s not too far away either. When we left we were given some water for our journey and a warm farewell from both Damian and Louise. We will be back in a heartbeat! I have never met such lovely owners.

We cannot recommend highly enough every aspect of this holiday from the cleanliness of the cottage, the facilities, the location, welcome packs (humans and dogs!!), the eco-friendly nature of the whole site, which should be applauded in itself, let alone the attentive and prompt personal service from Damian himself.

We stayed in Heather Barn as we had brought our 80 year old mother with us, so the fact it was all one level with great access suited everyone, with the facilities being excellent throughout - there was everything you could need in the kitchen, from a coffee maker to slow cooker and everything in between! The garden itself along with the hot tub was perfect for all concerned including our four-legged companions, who were able to relax in the sun all day. In addition, the enclosed Central bark was great for early morning and evening exercise.

In terms of walks in the region, the options were numerous, but with our 2 labradors we concentrated on walks with water! We visited Seaton beach, that had a huge expanse of dog friendly sand, along with a lovely cafe right on the beach to admire the views. We did try to get to Whitsand bay, but foolishly did not check the tide times beforehand so could not get down to the beach - a lesson learnt!!
We did follow the advice in the booklet in the cottage and went to Churchtown Farm Nature Reserve, which was an endless expanse of beautiful fields intersperse with detours to the river for the dogs! Our favourite walk though was Newbridge through Cadsonbury Woods - a beautiful river walk meandering through the woods, followed by a steep climb up Cadsonbury Hill (optional only!) which was certainly worth it when you got to the top for the views! Unfortnately we were not there any longer to try out any of the other walks, but I can only assume that as they are recommended they will be equally as wonderful!

We also visited the local pub "the Weary Friar" for a very pleasant lunch, where the welcome was great for us all (including the dogs who got water bowls and treats), and the food was excellent value and quality (as well as quantity!)

I would also recommend the Cote at Home option for an evening meal, it was delivered (within an hour time slot) with simple cooking instructions and was excellent quality and value.

All in all for visitors who did not know the area we could not have asked for more help, better facilities, or more information on how to make the most of your stay, so a huge big thankyou to Damian and Louise for making our first (but wont be our last) trip to Cornwall so special.

Thank you so much for this broad and detailed review. It's wonderful to hear that you enjoyed not only the cottage, its garden and the dog park, but also the mix of local walks and the local pub. The Cote at Home meal is becoming increasingly popular with our guests. Your dogs were simply wonderful; we're glad you managed to find sufficient walks with water for them. We would love to see you all again.

We were met by Damian, a friendly and helpful chap, who introduced us to Kernock cottages and invited us to call upon him anytime. We stayed at Heather Barn a modern barn, open plan style reception and kitchen with two lovely double bedrooms with on -suits. My room was designed for wheelchair access with a wet room shower room. However, finished to a high standard and very in keeping with the rest of the cottage. The dogs loved their holiday home with plenty of room for zoomies and play. The safe dog area was fun and convenient. We enjoyed the hot tub every day. It was clean, a good temperature and worked every time! We were able to plan our days with the help from the very informative folders and pamphlets left at the cottage. We had two wonderful meals out at local pubs, The Weary Friar Inn and The Crooked Inn. The kitchen at the cottage was like home from home. Very well equipped and a joy to cook in. Everything was lowered for wheelchair access but again very modern and in keeping with the rest of the rooms. They had thought of every thing to make our stay easy and pleasant. Thank you Damian and help staff.

A very well furnished cottage with plenty of space and delightful views of splendid trees and Cornish countryside. The welcome pack is impressive in both quality and range, and this is enhanced with the range of kitchen utensils and associated items such as cling film and foil. The hot tub is serviced daily in an unobtrusive manner ensuring cleanliness and safety is maintained; this is undoubtedly a highlight of the cottage. The new owners are maintaining the very high standard and are grateful for feedback so they can further improve the overall customer experience of their guests. We enjoyed a thoroughly relaxing week. Thank you.

This is the second time that we have stayed at Kernock cottages although this time in a different cottage.
The Barn was well equipped, clean and spacious. Although the properties have changed hands since our last visit Damien is maintaining the high standards and thoughtfulness of the previous owners. Communication from Damien was great especially as we were due to visit during storm Eunice and we were informed that the cottages were without power due to the storm delaying our holiday by a day.
We will definitely visit again as this is the perfect base for a Cornish holiday with the bonus of great views and walks for our dog and a hot tub for our teenager!

Lovely quiet location, the dog walking field was a wonderful touch. The hot tub was great. The secure area for the dog in the garden wasn't used. The barn was clean and comfortable. There was one chair that was higher and very welcomed by my mother. There were a few cobwebs in the lamp shades and higher up on the beams.

This was a reschduled break from Christmas 2020 so we were looking forward to finlally making to Kernock Cottages and Heather Barn. All of the information provided to the point of departure was excellent and couldn't have asked for a better introduction to the holiday. Heather Barn was really spacious and very well equipped and we had everything we needed. The smallest of criticisms was that it was so well stocked there was not much cupboard space for food/tins/packets etc. and we had a lot of stuff to cover christmas and avoid going out to the supermarket. However there was plenty of workspace to utlisise so it was not a big issue. The underfloor heating worked marvelously and we were never cold. The provison of the dog crate, towel/blankets and treats were great as was the christmas tree. We took advantage of the grounds for dog walking on the days we didn't want to travel and also walked further down the lanes following a walk on the dog blog. The hot tub was superb and we were in every day at differrent points and it was great being undecover watching the rain fall on some days. It was great to see it being cleaned and maintained every day as well. We were also provided addtitional recylcling bins for the excess paper and bottless!! The owners were always on hand for advice or information and when the car suffered a tyre blow out on Boxing Day they emailled all of the local garages and contacts in the area. A really enjoyable and relaxing break despite some iffy Cornish weather.

We have just stayed at Kernock for two weeks during winter. The cottage was lovely, comfortable and warm with everything we needed. We had our two dogs with us, and having Central Bark so handy was great. Although we were out of season and most attractions were shut, we had a great time exploring beaches, villages and Bodmin, to say nothing of some great local pubs. The hot tub was special to return to each evening, we had complete privacy and quiet, and it was a wonderful, restful break. I would thoroughly recommend it.

Bright, clean and lovingly restored barn. Perfect for someone with a disability, or not. We went with elderly parents who also used the wet room. Highly recommended. Perfect location.

Beth was lovely, not intrusive, but on hand should we need her.

We would have no hesitation in recommending a stay to family and friends.

Our stay at Heather Barn was fantastic. Stayed with a husband, 2 teenagers and a Cockapoo. Loved the lay out of the barn with the bedrooms at either end of the property. Now our children are older and like their own space this was perfect.
Beth left a welcome pack for us and our dog which was very much appreciated. Unfortunately, our dog managed to get to all the treats in one go while we were in the hot tub! The kitchen has all you could want including a coffee machine and even provided coffee too!
The hot tub was lovely and perfect first thing in the morning while the sun came up.
Very quiet and relaxing and the walk over to view Bodmin Moor was very peaceful with my dog each morning. Even picked fresh blackberries during our stay.
Had a fantastic Sunday roast at the Springer Spaniel pun which was recommended, about 15 mins away. Also, Hidden Valley was another perfect day out for all ages, about half hour drive. Offers a puzzle trail in pretty surroundings and even the teenagers enjoyed it.
Beth was a great host and even dropped water round for our long drive home. Would definitely stay here again

We loved our stay at Kernock - my wife, 15yo daughter and I.

Lots of nice goods laid in for arrival (above the norm), a full size Weber BBQ on the patio and, the piece de resistance, a glorious small pear orchard for a garden to watch the sunrise and sunsets ( and an amazing blood moon to boot). There was a real feeling of tranquil space around the property.

Accessible facilities were good, and the beds most comfortable.

Cornish lanes were charming to drive if a little challenging at times.

What a wonderful cottage in a beautiful location. From the moment we arrived and received our welcome pack of food we knew we were going to have a lovely time. The cottage is well equipped with all mod cons, particularly in the kitchen. There is a huge fridge/freezer so plenty of room for holiday treats! Sofas are comfy, as are the beds. Outside, the hot tub was fab, a great place to chill and watch rabbits! The dogs loved the enclosed dog walking area, it was big enough to let our older dog stretch her legs and have a good sniff whilst the younger one could get rid of his morning (and evening) bounces!

Our stay at Kernock cottages was wonderful from the moment we arrived, the cottage was spotlessly clean and we had a phone call to say it was ready earlier than expected. The welcome pack was far more than expected.
The grounds of Kernock Cottages were great for walking our dog, Central Bark was a large area through woodlands and open fields, al fence.
We will certainly be going back again.

It’s our second visit to Heather Barn and we booked our third when we were there.
We love the location and Barn it’s beautiful. You have many places to explore locally and the local pub is within easy walking distance. Our 3 hairy kids enjoy Central Bark and the freedom it allows them to explore and run off lead in a secure environment. The Barn is always perfectly clean, comfortable with high quality appliances and bedding. Beth and Hugh are very welcoming and lovely. Totally 100% recommend. Can’t wait for our third visit.

Beautiful, well equipped cottage in a lovely peaceful setting. Our dog loved the freedom to be off the lead in Central Bark and the hot tub was an added bonus. The extras provided for us and our dog were welcome and considerable care had obviously been taken to ensure the cottage was Covid secure, which gave us peace of mind. Beth was very helpful and response both before and during our stay and the local information provided on the website was thorough and wide ranging. I would highly recommend.

I love each trip to Kernock, it is a haven of tranquility and an absolute treasure for dog owners. Heather Barn is beautifully presented and immediately feels homely. When you arrive the fridge is stocked with everything you need for a lovely cooked breakfast, as well as the welcome essentials to make a cup of tea, or enjoy a glass of bubbly. The location is wonderfully secluded and peaceful with space to walk and enjoy beautiful views over the valley. Central Bark is an extensive enclosed area where you can safely let your dogs off lead, allowing them to explore and run off their energy after a long car journey. Heather Barn also has an enclosed doggy playpen, in effect a small garden, so your dogs can be outside while you use the barbeque or relax in the hot tub. One of my personal favourites is enjoying the night sky - the stars are so wonderfully bright.
In the evenings we often walk through the lanes to the Weary Friar at Pillaton, also very dog friendly. It is only a short walk and definitely worth a visit. In 2020 we decided not to eat out but were still able to enjoy trips to the beach, Dartmoor, and Cotehele House, all within comfortable driving distance.
Beth is a wonderful welcoming host who pays great attention to detail and will always do her best to make your visit to Kernock as comfortable as possible. We will definitely be planning a return trip next year.

A ‘home from home‘ with many thoughtful touches making it really special and nestled in a beautiful area of Cornwall. We stayed during Storm Alex so the weather was not the best, but helpful information on the website about places to visit, not to mention lovely local hostelries to shelter in when things got too soggy, helped us make the most of our weekend. The barn was a cozy retreat to come back to after a blustery rainy walk and the doggy treats were a particular favourite with one member of the group! We will definitely be back!

The cottage is very spacious and comfortable. We had a really relaxing week there and we used the hot tub almost everyday. The kitchen is very well equipped and the welcome package is very thoughtful. We thought we could do with one more recycling box. The site is very quiet and beautifully maintained. We felt safe to let the children wondering around. The children love the trampoline, and it would be nice to have a few more pieces of outdoor play equipment. Overall we had a lovely time and would definitely recommend to friends.

So glad that you all enjoyed yourselves, Gavin. We used to have a big adventure playground at the top, but it got damaged in the gales, so we removed it for safety reasons. As we get few small children these days, we haven't replaced it, but there is a play park in the village, and there's lots of running around space, and den-building to be done in the woods :). Beth

The cottage was superb. Everything you need and more. The setting is fantastic. Very peaceful. To be able to have an area to exercise your dog is invaluable. Communication with the owners is first class and the couple of recommendations we tried were spot on. We will certainly be back!! Thank you very much for our stay in your beautiful estate!

Really enjoyed our time in Heather Barn, it was lovely and clean with comfy beds. We had a 2 year old with us and was perfect with no stairs. I loved our outdoor space too.

We wasn’t very luck with the weather but tried to make the most of it. Covid has unfortunately put some restrictions on places to visit however we managed to get to the Marine Life Centre in Plymouth which is worth a visit. Also the rest of our holiday party went to the adrenaline park and done the activities there which are great, just not much for a 2 year old to do with rainy weather. We went to a beach at Padstow which was beautiful, Looe is a nice town but didn’t like the beach there. Also a bit of a walk from car to beach.
I think what would be ideal in the grounds where the trampoline is would be to have some park equipment for younger children this would of been great for us. Just a recommendation. Other than that as I said beautiful settings, lovely hot tub and really clean.

Beth replied more than 1 year ago
I'm glad that you enjoyed your stay, Rachel, and thank you for choosing Kernock. As you say, Covid has reduced access to some of the usual attractions suitable for a two-year old... we have several soft play venues in the area, but they were not able to open at the time of your visit, sadly, which I appreciate does limit the options. Roll on the return to normality :).

When we got there is was pooring with rain but Beth was outside our cottage to give us warm welcome which included a welcome pack for both humans and Belle the dog.
The cottage was immaculate with everything you could ask for and it's been redecorated in January. It was in the perfect place to venture out to all nearby places to visit which we did nearly everyday in the rain!
We went to Looe on the only dry day that we were there and the kids loved it, visiting the rock pools and ending up in the Chip shop which was dog friendly. The kids loved it that much we had to go back the day before we left to come home in the pooring rain, we got soaked but we had a great time.
We also went biking at Cardinham Woods and Plymbridge Woods (which was a disused railway and flat), the kids had a great time again in the rain!
We all had a great time including Belle who got very wet but will certainly be returning very soon, hopefully in February school holiday!!

We had a fabulous time staying in Heather Barn. Everything we needed was provided along with lots of advice and information about the local area. The weather forecast was not good when we left home but it turned out to be much better and we visited lots of beaches where the dogs had a great time.
The barn was set up brilliantly for both dogs and humans and a lovely location.

Hello,
We had a lovely week's stay at Heather Barn , a few things that I think would improve the stay are:
1)The bedroom our disabled daughter used ( electric wheelchair user) would make things easier if there was less furniture , the chest of drawers was in the way when she was getting to bed and we also had to move the 2 bedside tables.
2)The curtains were lovely but again if there were shorter, windowsill level, it would be easier to drive and not risk getting them caught in the wheels.
3)The wet room was a good size but the screen by the door was in the way and served no purpose.
4) The lounge was a good size easy to get around but the sofa's and coffee table just needs to be moved so that a wheelchair user has easier acces to the tv.
5) The gardens and views were stunning but there is a real lack of garden furniture to sit and enjoy it in. We wanted to eat outside but as there was no table and chairs we couldn't. So more garden furniture and a few benches around the estate would be great.
All minor things and easily sorted , Beth was really friendly and we hope to return next year.
Kind Regards
Susanne

Beth replied more than 1 year ago
Hi Susanne. I'm glad you had a lovely stay, and I'm sorry if certain aspects of the barn didn't work perfectly for your daughter. About half of our bookings include a guest who uses a wheelchair, and the other half have no access requirements (it is a cottage also loved by parents of toddlers, and older dogs who like the under-paw heating!). It is always helpful if we know in advance if there is a wheelchair user in the party (we do ask in our confirmation email and all our follow up emails), as we can then ask how they would like the furniture arranged - we often move one of the sofas to the back wall, especially if the guest does not transfer out of their chair, and we can rearrange the bedroom so the bedside tables and rugs are not in the way; or remove one of the dining chairs, for example. In this case, you didn't mention it before arriving, but we would have been very happy to arrange the furniture however it worked best for your daughter. Obviously there is no one-size-fits-all formula for access requirements, but the turning circles and passage widths in every room meet the requirements of the National Accessible Scheme M3 (full wheelchair access) grading. This may have less generous measurements than required by the bigger power chairs, which is why we have the 3D tours of every cottage on our website - you are able to "walk" around the cottage on the computer to see whether the layout will work for you, but we have regular repeat guests who use power chairs - again, the advance knowledge would have helped us to arrange the cottage to better effect. We would have been more than happy to make any adjustments had you asked when you were here. The screen in the bathroom was put in after we had a couple of incidences of flooding in the bedroom (requiring us to completely replace the wooden flooring twice) after guests put a mat over the shower outlet. This contains the water in the shower area if required, and more than complies with all the turning circle requirements of the NAS. In the garden, we used to have a table and chairs, but guests kept requesting outdoor sofas, which is why we put those and a low coffee table in the garden instead. While the garden is huge, the terrace area is not really big enough to do both! We are totally refurbishing Heather Barn in the new year, and will certainly take your comments into account when we do the refit :). Kind regards, Beth

I had been looking for a cottage where I could enjoy a few days away with my daughter and two rescued greyhounds. So many cottages advertise that they are dog friendly but the gardens are not really secure enough for greyhounds. Kernock Cottages offered everything I could wish for. Completely secure area in the garden, beautiful grounds, a lovely dog walking area with benches and paths leading to open fields, and best of all we were offered the use of a large fenced field where my dogs could run full speed. Apart from my dogs, Heather Barn was perfect for my daughter and I. Two ensuite bedrooms with huge, very comfortable beds, a very well equipped kitchen and comfortable lounge area. My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer.

Great stay, with a few improvements it would be perfect!

Beth was an amazing host, available when/if you needed her but never over the top. Few areas to improve to make it a perfect holiday home.
- In the summer heat the fantastic looking large part glass roof turns the cottage in to an extremely hot and humid room therefore, you cannot leave a dog in the cottage at all. If there were some blackout blinds installed this would improve the comfort level of the barn.
- the gated off area for the dog is ok for a small dog, but not suitable for a Labrador size dog. Consideration to creating a larger fenced garden including part of the orchard area would improve the security for dogs.
- Some general maintenance required inside: 1) plug socket not secured to the wall in one bedroom 2) shower head in wet room leaks 3) alarm kept going off on the fridge even when closed.
These points are simply areas of improvement only and positives are as follows:
- Hot Tub was great!
- Comfortable beds
- Great hosts
- Country club facilities access
- Central Bark (specific dog waking area)
The property and location for our holiday was wonderful and would recommend Kernock Cottages as a holiday home location.

Thanks Scott. It was lovely to meet you all. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, and I’m glad you enjoyed your holiday. Thanks for your comments - It is always useful when guests let us know the little things that don’t work, as we are obviously in weekly to clean, but don’t live in the cottages. It would have been helpful if you’d mentioned the plug and the shower when you were here (especially as I saw you most days when doing the hot tub)… these were rectified on the day you left after you mentioned them on departure, but we could easily have put them right while you were here, had we known beforehand. On the fridge alarm, we’ve had a look at the fridge, and I think you must have had a bottle or something preventing the proper closure, as it is working fine, with no beeping, it wasn’t beeping when we cleaned on Saturday after your departure (and we’re in there for several hours) and this week’s guests didn’t report anything amiss, and no beeping during changeover today, so we think this may have been operator error, rather than a problem with the fridge. Again, if you had mentioned it during your stay, we could have investigated and identified the culprit. We agree with you about the glazed section of the roof – it’s great for the light, but does create solar gain, which means you need to leave the windows open (you can lock them open enough to create a draught). We are fully refurbishing Heather Barn over the winter, and an electric thermal blind is one of the improvements scheduled. The enclosed area of the garden for dogs next to the hot tub is over 600 sq feet. As you have the fully secure 6-acre “Central Bark” less than 25 metres from the barn, this area was always planned to be more of a large doggy playpen area for while you are in the hot tub, rather than for dogs to be left outside in for prolonged periods. The orchard garden around the barn where you were training your dog is very large, but we didn’t want to spoil the open nature of the site by fencing everything, as it would change the character of the site. Most of our guests, even recent ones with Danes and Malamutes, find the enclosed area adequate for that purpose for short periods. :)

Stunning in every way

From the website I expected Heather Barn & Kernock Cottages to be special but it exceeded my expectations. Both location and accommodation are so charming and peaceful and it is obvious that Beth & Hugh really want your holiday experience to be perfect. It is lovely to be able to relax knowing that dogs are welcomed rather than tolerated and even get their own gift pack! We loved the hot tub and the accessible wet room was so spacious making it easy for our disabled daughter to use. Without a doubt we will be frequent returning guests and cannot recommend Kernock Cottages highly enough.

Great accommodation that is genuinely suited to visitors who use a wheelchair or require a level space.
Our dogs had loads of open space and Beth’s extra touches like the doggie welcome pack show that your four legged friends are very welcome
Loved the hot tub too!

We chose the wettest week of the year for our 3rd stay at Heather Barn in as many years. Nonetheless it was Both enjoyable and comfortable.

Dog friendly and with disabled access, Heather Barn caters for our needs extremely well. We made more use of the self catering facilities than previously and could want for nothing. It really is well equipped.

The grounds are delightful and the rabbits, squirrels and abundant bird life provided ample interest for Mojo (4 yr old labradoodle)? Kernock cottages is a haven of peace and quiet and highly recommended.

Needing a wheelchair accessible cottage, this was found to be excellent. Lots of turning space in both living area and bedroom and a more than adequate wet room. Plenty of parking and NO PESKY GRAVEL. Lovely view from the front of the cottage, a tranquil spot with abundant trees and bird life. Thank you, Hugh and Beth.

My husband, daughter, granddaughter, dog and I had a lovely stay at Kernock Cottages at the end of May. First impressions of the property was, it was spacious, very clean and in beautiful surroundings. A bonus was the hot tub, which we all made good use of. After a long drive, we really appreciated the welcome pack and our Labrador enjoyed her treats too! We really liked the fact that there was plenty of open space to walk the dog and she really enjoyed running through the fields (very dog friendly). The location was great, easy commutable into the wider areas of Cornwall, plus a fantastic pub (The Weary Friar) within staggering distance. I highly recommend Kernock Cottages. We truly enjoyed our stay, great value for money and we would certainly stay here again. Thank you Hugh and Beth, we shall return.

We had a wonderful short break at Kernock cottages. Heather Barn is superbly presented and very comfortable. A lot of thought has gone into providing all the essentials and quite a few luxuries, all in a beautiful peaceful setting. The beds are extremely comfortable, the open plan living area is well laid out and spacious, and the fridge comes stocked with a welcome breakfast. Even the dogs are provided for with towels, toys and a crate if you need it. Our two standard poodles had a fantastic holiday making the most of running free in Central Bark, a superb 6 acres of unadulterated fun for dogs. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the only dilemma being when to explore the area and when to stay and relax at Kernock. We are already planning when to return.

We had a brilliant stay at Heather Barn which was a lovely home away from home for us. The grounds were perfect for our boys (7 and 4) to play in and we loved them being able to run out and play whilst still being in our line of sight. The cottage was well equipped and we really enjoyed exploring the beautiful local area.

A beautiful and peaceful place to stay. A real "home from home" with all mod cons. Blissfully comfortable beds, clean and spacious accommodation and that all important bonus of a covered hot tub! Generous welcome pack and warm, friendly welcome from Beth the owner. In all a fabulous weekend and we would highly recommend, particularly Heather Barn for disabilities as my daughter found the ensuite wet room a great bonus for her independence.

We stayed at Heather Barn for 8 nights during Christmas with our 18 months toddler and our Labrador. The cottage was beautiful and very clean, completely child friendly and had everything we could possibly need. The grounds are ideal for dogs, ours really loved exploring the surroundings and running around in Central Bark. The location is amazing, peaceful and quiet, perfect for getting away from the busy city life. There is plenty to do in the area, lots of great places within a short drive.

All of us really enjoyed our stay, we had a fantastic time - planning to go back soon!

We have stayed at Heather Barn twice this year, both for long weekends. We loved it so much the first time we just had to come back! My son is a full time wheelchair user and the disabled facilities are excellent. The barn itself is cosy yet provides that touch of luxury as well. Loved going in the hot tub in the snow! Location is great with beautiful countryside around and we loved having such a welcoming pub, The Weary Friar, a few minutes away.Having lists provided of pubs and walks that were dog friendly and also disabled friendly, made our stay stress free. We would thoroughly recommend Heather Barn as a place to get away from it all and recharge your batteries!

I knew from the initial booking of this cottage we were going to like it.. the owner Beth sent us such a great informative confirmation email, especially regarding my husbands need for a fully functioning accessible cottage, I just new we’d love it!! And we certainly did!! I can not fault it, such a high standard of cleanliness, a great space for my husbands wheelchair and all efforts made to accommodate us.. the breakfast basket was something else!! Such a welcome treat to arrive and know we could grab a cuppa without having to venture out. The hot tub was absolutely gorgeous and again I loved sitting in it, and just enjoying the peace and calmness of the surrounding hills. Beth was so helpful, a font of local knowledge and she went above and beyond in making our weekend so relaxing and particularly her understanding of my husbands needs. She was a star.. I would highly recommend this cottage.. you will not be disappointed.

The accommodation is supurb and we would highly recommend staying here. The cottage has everything you need and the Central Bark was excellent for our little terrier. With two young children we were finding it hard to find the right type of holiday, kernock cottages was perfect for our needs, I clean and well presented home from home with lots to see and do in the local area. Beth also provided a guide of things to see and do which proves very useful. Would recommend to anyone not just people like us with young children, in fact I have recommended to my parents as well! Our second vsist to Heather Barn. We were originally attracted by the rare combination of being suitable for a wheelchair bound parent whilst also being dog friendly. Our previous visit then revealed well fitted out accommodation in a beautiful location. So, we knew what to expect. We had struck gold.

Our return visit didn’t disappoint. Thre is much to do in east Cornwall and when you’ve had a good day out and about you can always round the day off enjoying the sunset immersed in the hot tub as the rabbits dart around the lawn.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Heather Barn fulfilled all our needs and Beth & Hugh cannot do enough for you (including a generous welcome pack).

Delightful.

Absolutely fantastic break, Heather Barn has everything you need and more... comfortable beds, great location, and owners on site should you need anything.
It was really lovely to have the welcome packs when we arrived and prosecco chilling in the fridge. Our daughter loved the trampoline in the grounds, our baby enjoyed the baby walker and toys! We made use of the hot tub and bbq on numerous occasions, and when the weather wasn’t so great we used the passes for the country club up the road.
There isn’t one bad thing to say about this cottage. We had a brilliant time and would def go back!
Thank you for a wonderful holiday.

We loved Kernock cottages, we stayed at Heather barn which was great. Comfortable, clean and well equipped. Bedrooms were lovely and had modern clean bathrooms. Great outside garden which was great for our 2 year old twins and dogs. Loved the hot tub too.
Some great books and toys for the children, ours especially loved the train set.
Our dogs loved central bark, what a great idea! So nice to stay somewhere that is so welcoming to dogs and catering so well for them.
The children also loved going for walks around the area and exploring.
We were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble.
Will definitely go back. Thank you :)

The barn was just beautiful and had everything needed for a relaxing stay - we couldn’t have enjoyed ourselves more - the hot tub was beautiful and gave lovely views over the trees. The roof on the tub and the lighting does limit stargazing but there is ample land that this may be something they add later (a stargazing lookout maybe?!). We really couldn’t have asked for more - and can’t wait to go back !!!

We needed a cottage which was all on one level and accessible as my mum is disabled. We also wanted somewhere dog-friendly for our cocker spaniel. This cottage compketely fitted the bill on both counts. The hot tub was a very pleasant additional luxury and the welcome pack was a nice touch. The customer service from Beth was outstanding. We forgot to lock the door one day and she went to do it for us, plus my mum lost her ring there and it was posted back to us by special delivery straight away.

We stayed in Heather Barn for 5 nights over Christmas and had such a lovely time. The cottage is lovely and spacious and clean and has everything you could possibly need in the kitchen. We came with our 1 year old daughter and she loved it and loved playing with the toys provided in the cottage and us adults loved playing the board games provided by the cottage in the evenings. We came with our 2 dogs our 2 year old Labrador and my husbands parents who stayed with us brought along there 5 year old husky cross Labrador and the dogs also had a great time And loved the welcome pack they got! The entrance to central bark was opposite our cottage and provided a lovely walk with lovely views. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and found it very relaxing, we all used the hot tub every day which was great! We will be returning, thanks for a lovely Christmas break away Kernock Cottages, Kerri.

Perfect. A really lovely cottage.

Heather Barn is beautifully appointed with everything you could possibly need in a home from home. Beth made us feel very welcome on our arrival. There was a welcome pack of breakfast foods, plus tea, coffee, milk and sugar. And a hamper for our dog, of treats, toys and poo bags! The barn was warm and cosy with underfloor heating. The kitchen had every pot, pan and utensil you could possibly need to cook whatever you wanted. We did eat in a couple of times, but there are some great pubs and restaurants in the area, so as it was a holiday we indulged. The bathrooms and hot tub were wonderful, although I have to admit, we chickened out of using the hot tub, but our stay was in November!
I'd like to state that the only reason I marked the condition section as 'good' rather than 'excellent' was because there had been an incident that had caused a very minor flood which had stained the floorboards in one corner of our bedroom. It certainly was not an issue, and Beth explained fully what had happened on our arrival. Everything was dry, just discoloured.
We would love to and plan to return to Cornwall in the future, and Kernock Cottages would certainly be at the top of our 'where to stay' list. Highly recommended.

Wonderful holiday in a very tranquil setting, Beth couldn't have done more to make us welcome. Accessibility for my husband was excellent which in itself is rare. Adored the hot tub, and for once we found accommodation that not only tolerated dogs it welcomes them. Would highly recommend.

We had a lovely stay in Heather Barn. The welcome pack was wonderful with everything we needed for a first breakfast. The owner was very friendly and helpful. The accommodation was very well equipped with everything you could need. It was generally very clean, there was a bit of dust in the bedroom where the cleaners had forgotton the bedside lamps and behind them. Only noticed because we were lying right next to them. We also found the throws on the sofas a bit dirty and with dog hairs. Otherwise a good standard throughout. The bathrooms were excellent. We all really enjoyed the hot tub and thought this was a lovely extra. The area was great for exploring,

Beth replied more than 1 year ago
Thank you Jayne for your kind words. I'm glad you had a good stay and found the cottage clean and well equipped. I can only apologise for the dust on the bedside table and the throws. We have a very new cleaning team, and while they have been doing a great job, it appears they have missed a couple of bits on this occasion. Certainly the throws are usually changed for every booking, but they may not have done this. Sorry :( Guests generally comment that you can't tell the cottages have had dogs in them, and that is what we aim for. I will make sure this is on their ticklist. Hope to see you again sometime. Beth :)

At Kernock you will find a combination of beautiful and tranquil location and very high quality of facilities. Add to this both
disability friendliness and dog friendliness and you have a rare gem. Moreover, without being intrusive Beth cannot do enough for you. We had a delightful stay at Heather Barn. Wheelchair access and the wetroom facilities - both great. Grounds and "Central Bark" for the dog - also great. We didn't get to use the hot tub but I'm sure that's a plus point too. We couldn't find anything to fault. First class.

We had a fantastic week at Heather Barn. The barn itself is super clean and modern. It's tastefully decorated and really well equipped. It's all on one level so is very easy living. Both bedrooms are ensuite which is great. We all loved the jacuzzi and it was close enough to the barn to be a quick walk to get in and out. I think it really made the holiday special. It was easy to use, and really well lit. The beds were also very comfortable and we all slept really well. We cooked a couple of meals and found the kitchen well stocked and easy to use.

The grounds are pleasant and the boys enjoyed a bit of football and frisby. I would say the view out of the kitchen window is a bit industrial and disappointing, but the barn is amongst working buildings with the road to other cottages on the site going past the kitchen window. This wasn't a problem in the slightest, in fact we never noticed a vehicle go past once! On the other side of the barn, sunset above the trees is very pretty. The kids didn't really bother to go to the field with the trampoline. If the trampoline had been in our garden they would've used it (although they tried it once and said it wasn't very bouncy!).

Beth was incredibly helpful and welcoming. We used the membership cards for the local health club which was brilliant. The kids especially loved the slide. I'd highly recommend giving it a try.

There was so much to do in the area that we were spoilt for choice. We cycled at Tamar Trails which was great fun (especially the food in the cafe). We walked Rame Head which was beautiful. We went to the aquarium in Plymouth and the cinema - both fab. We ate at the Weary Friar in the village 3 times because it was so good! We went to the local national trust called Cotehele which was brilliant. We did the Eden project and hang loose which was well worth it for a day trip.

All in all we had a great time and it was fantastic to come back to the barn at the end of each day. Thank you very much!

We had a great stay here for 5 nights. Heather Barn was spotlessly clean and had everything you needed. The dogs were given a pack each which included treats, a toy each and a poo bag dispenser with bags which was a nice touch. It was ideal for dogs as the accomodation was very roomy and we walked them in the dog area every morning before breakfast. We could have walked for miles and the dogs loved it. Hot tub was nice to relax in after a long day walking. We visited, tintagel, padstow, whitsand bay, Dartmoor and perrenporth. Would definitely stay again!

Top top place to stay, very dog friendly, they've spared no expense & it the quality shine through. Not been to North Cornwall before, we'll definitely be back, as it's not the tourist trap that is Devon. Unspoilt villages and lovely small coastal towns (no doubt there are tourist centric place too but we didn't see them) & great beaches. The area & accommodation is very dog friendly, obviously helped by the owners info pack. Owner have gone above and beyond to provide more information to help you have a great holiday and there restaurant/pub recommendation were all bang on.

We were initially impressed by the online 360 tour.
Our party consisted of 2 young couples, one with an 18-month old toddler, and it was ideal.
Upon arrival everything was in order and Beth did a great job of welcoming us.
The cottage is extremely well presented, had everything we could possibly need, and is very child friendly.
We'd recommend this to others and would love an opportunity to return one day.

Where do I start? Beth is a great host, eager to please and thinks of the finer detail that is likely to turn your break from a good one to a great one. Thanks for the champers that you gave us for the birthday celebrations.

The cottage is brilliant, lovely large rooms totally accessible for the less able and I did not need to bring a car load of additional equipment with me as often is the case for some other accommodation I've used. The grounds were an artist's picture palate, helped by the autumnal weather and fab colours of the trees. The dogs totally enjoyed (Ianto 5 years and Griff just 5 months). So deserving of having the accolade of being the best dog friendly cottage in Cornwall bestowed on them. I particularly like the new dog walk, and it's garden ornaments. One of our dogs was just 5 months and this was the very first time that we were confident enough to leave him off the lead as the area was secure. The small fenced garden attached to Heather Barn was also a bonus.
Just leaves me to mention the jacuzzi. Nothing better when one has an air temperature of 2 degrees whilst getting into a jacuzzi heated to a temperature of 40 degrees. A much needed relaxing short break.
Thanks both.

We enjoyed a beautiful week in the cottage, with everything we needed (including good weather). The grounds provided perfect and safe location for a quick walk with the dogs, and the hot tub was that little luxury that helped distinguish the cottage as something special. Although not required by ourselves, we were impressed with the facilities that Heather Barn provides for people with mobility problems, and judging by the visitor book has received much praise. A good base to explore both east Cornwall and the western parts of Devon. The only problem is ....... is it Jam before the cream, or cream before the Jam? Thank you.

Beth replied more than 1 year ago
Shhhhh... don't let the neighbours hear you, or there will be a riot. Jam first, of course. I know we're close to the border, but some Devon ways just don't cross the Tamar! I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. I hope you had a good rest before the move! Bx

We enjoyed a great holiday and have already booked again for next year!

For us, would only desire a firmer mattress and thinner duvet ! & not to have property maintenance work carried out during our stay. Tiny details of an exceptional holiday experience. Thank you x

Beth replied more than 1 year ago
Hi Nicky. I'm glad you all enjoyed it, and that we will be seeing you again next year (very organised of you to have booked already!!). Sorry that the windows were being painted a couple of days of your holiday. We aim to keep the cottages in excellent condition, and unfortunately exterior painting has to be done when it is dry, so we can't do it in darkest January, and the cottage does get exceptionally well booked. We did make sure that we worked around your being out, so hopefully it didn't disturb you too much. I swapped the goosedown duvet for a thinner one... if the replacement was still too hot then do remind me next year and I'll try to source a very low tog one for you. Look forward to seeing you all again next August. :)

This was our first visit to Kernock Cottages and we loved it. Such a peaceful and beautiful location and we didn't want to leave.
There was everything in the cottage we could want and everything provided was of a high standard/quality. Even our dog got a welcome pack which was a lovely touch. The location is great as it is "away from it all" but you can get to so many places with just a short drive. The owners Hugh and Beth were on hand all the time if we needed anything and nothing was too much trouble. The hot tub was a lovely bonus and provided the next best thing when we didn't fancy a drive to the local swimming pool. All in all a lovely relaxing holiday and we can't wait to go back again. Highly recommended!

We stayed here with our 2 year old daughter and golden retriever. The cottage was beautiful and very clean, the little extras when you arrive of sausages, bacon, fresh bread, eggs, milk, tea and coffee are a beautiful touch, the owners even got in touch with us before our stay to ensure we were not vegetarians, something they didn't need to do and something we thought to be very thoughtful and showed how much they care. It was a real bonus we could walk around their grounds with our dog off the lead, they have an enclosed paddock next to the children's play area which was great for the dog. Our highlight of the holiday had to be waking up to watching the family of bunnies outside the bedroom window and sitting in the hot tub (which they maintain daily) of an evening watching the bunnies come out in the sun set. We have never felt so relaxed from the start of arriving on a holiday, it's a beautiful place and has created many beautiful memories for us, thank you Beth, Hugh, Biba and Bou.

This stay was our 7th visit to Kernock Cottages; it has become part of our yearly holiday routine, so much so that the children regard Heather barn as our second home. This is how good we feel there!
We look forward to our 8th visit.

Embarked on this little gem through a general search for 'disabled and dog friendly' accommodation. Excellent facilities and the jacuzzi was a bonus..

We were disappointed with the work going on in the garden of three days of our stay which meant we had to keep our dog on lead. I was under the impression that the garden would be enclosed which it isn't so is not great for a young dog. I realised it doesn't state 'an enclosed garden' however I think it should be clearer that it is not secure. I thought the cottage was expensive for the facilities provided.

Beth replied more than 1 year ago
As we have some pretty ancient trees, we have them inspected regularly by a tree surgeon. Unfortunately, he condemned one of our biggest & oldest trees, as it was showing signs of being hollow inside, and has always leant over quite a lot, and presented a potential danger. As we are liable for the safety of our guests, we had to get it removed as quickly as possible once it was diagnosed, so unfortunately it wasn't possible to wait until the cottages were empty, as we are full through to November. I'm sorry if this disturbed your holiday, but I'm sure you appreciate that guest safety has to be prioritised in circumstances like this, and we did explain it to you when you arrived. Regarding your gorgeous puppy, none of our cottages are fenced (though we are about to fence the Coach House, which is already enclosed by a hedge, and put a gate on the garden). The site and the grounds are very open, and it would spoil the feel of it if there was fencing around every cottage, and it would be virtually impossible to do for Owl and Tree Barns. We don't say anywhere that the gardens are all fenced, and the photos are representative of the location. We find most guests who are concerned about fencing do call or email us to check, so I'm sorry if you assumed it would be. There are also 10 acres of fenced paddocks onsite where the dog could safely have been off the lead while the tree was being felled. Regarding the price, I don't think you will find that we totally are out of line with other 5* cottages with Gold awards and private hot tub in every cottage :)

We stayed at Heather Barn, Kernock Cottages for five nights in August as a last minute holiday. We found Kernock Cottages on the Premier Cottages web-site and due to a last minute cancellation Heather Barn was free. Heather Barn is set in the beautiful rolling Cornish countryside where it was so relaxing to wake up in the most comfortable bed hearing nothing more than bird song and occasional baa's from the sheep in a nearby field. Heather Barn was immaculately clean and probably the best equipped accommodation we have ever stayed in! Our party included two teenagers who loved the private hot tub and the fact that there was an excellent Wi-fi connection. We appreciated the warm welcome we received from Beth and her family (including the four-legged members!). The membership of the China Fleet Country Club came in handy when the weather wasn't so good. There is so much to do and see in this part of Cornwall and we would highly recommend a stay at Kernock Cottages.

Beth replied more than 1 year ago
Thank you Louise, for your kind words. So glad you all enjoyed your time here. Yes, the WiFi is de rigueur for our younger guests, and the hot tubs are going down very well too! China Fleet has been very well used by our guests this summer, as a lot of the sunshine has been of the liquid variety :)

Loved the hot tub. Very relaxing, the accomandation had everything it needed, the kitchen utensils were good qualty. Beds comfortable, bathrooms done out to the highest standard, the accomandation is worth its 5 stars, beth was very helpful, plus guides of where to go very good, excellent website,

We had lovely holiday but for money we paid we expected a higher standard accommodation.

We expected more for our money as it cost nearly a £1000 for week.
The place as got disabled facilities but it lacks a high chair for the disabled.
The place could also do with a good window cleaner. We also found when we opened a window inside of frame had never been cleaned since I don't know when.
The general up keep of the building could do with a bit more effort and then it would be ok.

Beth replied more than 1 year ago
Thank you for the lovely email you sent saying how much you had enjoyed your honeymoon and how lovely the cottage was, which left me a little baffled by some of the comments in your review. It's a pity you didn't mention the chair when you were here -we do have a high backed chair, which is mentioned on the Heather Barn accessibility statement, but as you didn't ask for it. It wasn't in the cottage, but we could easily have put it in while you were there had you mentioned it to me, particularly as I saw you every day. I am slightly confused by your statement about upkeep, as Heather Barn had been painted outside and inside a month before your arrival, and the furniture is all in good repair. The outdoor sofas were brand new the week you arrived, and we have just taken delivery of a new fridge-freezer, so are constantly investing to make sure all our cottages are of an excellent standard. The windows are cleaned weekly, but I do take your point about the inside of the frames, and will make sure these get done. I'm sorry you didn't find Heather Barn value for money, despite giving us 5/5 for everything else. The 5* Gold grading from VisitEngland makes us among the very top self-catering places in the country, and I think you will find that £1000 for a sleeps-4 cottage with a private hot tub in July is certainly not out of line with the top end of the market.

Myself, my partner and our 3yo daughter stayed here for 5days, it was lovely! Spotlessly clean with all of the modcons. Although still has the beautiful rustic barn feel! Ideal for me being a wheelchair user! We had a fab time!

This is our second stay at Heather Barn and I would not hesitate to come back again. This accommodation is perfect for those less mobile. It's layout is very practical but still with 5 star style! Brilliant for my Mum who is wheelchair dependent and really helpful for Dad and 1 as her carers. Beth is always so helpful and provided us with an additional shower chair for Mum as well as lots of additional information.
The provisional of milk, eggs, bacon, etc, is a lovely touch and the new hot tubs a welcome, and well used, addition.
Thank you Beth for being such a thoughtful host.

We recently stayed at Heather Barn. I find it difficult to find holiday accommodation that is of 5 star quality and that also accepts dogs. Heather barn excelled. Also my Dad had a major stroke a few years ago and so we required rooms on one level and an accessible shower all of which was brilliant. He does not need to use a wheelchair in the house but you could easily have used one there. The other major advantage was that Beth allowed you to leave the dogs and go out as long as they were in the cage ( which she provided) . This was a major advantage - something no other cottages I have come across allow you to do. Her website is full of info of things to do including how accessible places are , which was brilliant.

Heather Cottage was booked with my mother in Law in mind, as a lady of over 90 she is getting less mobile as the years take their toll. Little did I know at the time of booking that she was to crack a number of bones in her back in January so Heather Barn's special facilities for the less mobile was ideal. No only were the en suite facilities excellent the ground floor spacious living area enabled her to excise and get around more than she has done for the last three months. So for those who need additional facilities to help them cope with the body's wear and tear - Heather Cottage could not have been bettered.

My wife and I have taken self catering holidays, both nationally and internationally, for over 30 years and I have never found a cottage so well equipped. Even when we had a slight breakage - replacement was effectively and efficiently done. I cannot think of anything that was missing and the equipment quality would do a "Masterchef" programme proud.

Being involved in the hospitality business for over 20 years we know good quality when we see it and we definitely saw it at Heather Cottage. We would recommend Kernock Cottages as an excellent location to stay in the South West of England.

We have holidayed for over 20 years in Cornwall, loyal to our clean , comfortable, doggy friendly, beautifully located family run location - now closed, spending 2-3 weeks per year. For 2 years we have tried in vain, until last week to find a beautifully located true 5* but affordable location that has suited us and our dog (s) with accomodation that is welcoming, comfortable, very clean, by people who care also close to dog friendly beaches including easy access ones (Seaton and Par sands) also just remote enough not to be bothered by business, but close enough to major links to get home to older family in an emergency. Recommended by doggy friends, who stayed at Owl and Tree (The Roost configuration) Kernock Cottages is the sanctuary we have sought.
Heather Barn was a working building at the end of C20th. Now specifically and with much thought converted into a lovely spacious single level light airy two large bedroom cottage with a super ambience, a magnificently appointed kitchen and bathrooms with comfortable everything, and for Molly the ageing labrador underpaw heating. For the 3 of us just right for comfortable warming afternoon snoozes after a local beach run or walk in the magnificent Kernock grounds. Molly loved the rabbit watching through the wonderful french window "wall" the sniffs the avenue of trees and the fields to play in the dewy grass, and her Welcome pack! Beth and Hugh care deeply about their family run business, it shows from the warm welcome including the ahem welcoming of my (early) groceries and general attention to detail through to the well deserved recent Cornish tourism awards for Accessibility and Doggy friendliness. Kernock Cottage win my loyalty for genuine comfort, the welcome, the kindliness and all the human touches from first contact by email to the oh so welcome "tea" tray making to cook books, radios, games box chest, the picnic crockery, red spotty breakfast set on the dresser, Molly's safe anti firework haven. Thank You Bath and Hugh, you have made somewhere very special... May we come back please?

We had a fantastic week at Heather Barn, what a great fully equipped home from home. We stayed in on some days and managed to make some excellent home cooked meals, as the kitchen had everything we needed.

We found ourselves waking up early and laying in bed watching the wildlife in the garden, we even moved our car over in the car park so we could get a better view of the rabbits and the many rabbit holes in the bank near the bedroom window.

As this accommodation was designed to take disabled people and their families, the windows are low, which allow great views. The wet room is great, the shower is sufficiently high that even my husband at 6ft 6in did not have to bend his head, very well designed and thought out.

Being all on one level allows great wheel chair access through out, the glass roof in the lounge gives fab views of the moon and stars on a clear night, and the under floor heating keeps you cozy even on those chilly days.

All in all Heather Barn is a great place to stay Beth and Hugh Bailey have really put some great touches together to make a great Holiday home, especially when yo think this started its life as Hugh's workshop before it was converted.

Several other cottages on the site, but everyone has enough space to do there own thing, in fact we had a huge garden with some interesting plants and trees, a really great setting to relax.

A lovely well appointed holiday cottage off the beaten track, which was very peaceful and restful waking up to the sounds of birds singing was a lovely wind down, the cottage was really well presented very clean and tidy with top class amenities. We had such a wonderful time there.Close by there is a lovely pub restaurant The Weary Friar in the village which has a very good food menu, which was well cooked and presented, by a lovely staff , we had five evening meals there and not one complaint.
We would like to thank Beth for making it so enjoyable at Kernock Cottages.

Had a great time in Heather Barn, Kernock Cottages. Nice friendly welcome and lovely place to relax and spread out. Facilities excellent with such comfortable bedrooms and open plan living. Good bbq area. We have a disabled child so the large rooms and adapted bathroom were perfect, also lots of space for wheelchair. Visited Eden Project (1 hour) and north coast (Polzeath just over 1 hour) so it is easy to get around and explore.

The property is well presented and has good facilities for disabled guests. It is in a lovely area and is ideally situated for exploring the region. The owner is very approachable and helpful. The only slight improvement would be a high backed chair in the lounge suitable for disabled guests. Overall would definitely recommend.

I'm really glad you all enjoyed your holiday. Thank you for your suggestion - we do now have a high backed chair with rigid arms, which can be used either in the bedroom or in the sitting room. We have also just changed the dining table in Heather Barn to one with a pedestal foot for improved wheelchair access, and added a lovely lamp over the dining table, which gives more lighting options, which was suggested by another guest.

This property was very well equipped and was ideal for a family & for anyone with a disability as it was very spacious and well thought out.

The kitchen, dining area & lounge in one large area was ideal for socialising and the two ensuite bedrooms were ideal.

There is plenty of outside garden area for children to play in at this property as well as the main play area & trampoline.

A lovely property.

We stayed in Heather Barn for our summer holiday and had a really great time. We all enjoyed the garden the most which is huge and very private, perfect for our two sons (and Dad) to play football etc. The cottage itself is immaculate, modern and comfortable and a lot of thought has gone into the extra touches to make guests feel at home such as books and children's toys. The cottage is in beautiful countryside and we had some great days out such as the outdoor water park at Paignton and a family canoe trip on the Tamar River courtesy of the Tamar Trails Centre. We also enjoyed body boarding at Holywell Bay near Newquay and Widemouth Bay near Bude. Unreservedly recommended!

A beautiful cottage in lovely grounds. Very dog friendly which was lovely. The owners had thought of everything , the breakfast things on arrival was a lovely touch too. Would definately recomend staying here.
