With boxing hares dancing across the thatched roof, a flower-filled front garden, a fabulous inglenook fireplace, and an ancient National Trust-owned inn within a stone’s throw, this enchanting Grade II-listed cottage is the most picture-perfect place to stay. Filled with oodles of character and charm Rose Cottage sleeps five in three bedrooms, welcomes 2 dogs and is a heavenly place to escape from the world. There are countryside walks from the back door and the delights of the Cotswolds on your doorstep.

A beautiful cottage!

This thatched cottage was even nicer than the pictures -perfect in every way except the dancing hares on the roof must have been blown away in recent storms !! It was seconds away from the pub, which was our main reason for choosing it! It was very well equipped with a lovely open fire, which was great for a visit in February. Be aware of the very steep stairs (my husband fell down them)-I would advise leaving the light on at the bottom of the stairs at night!

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback following your recent stay at Rose Cottage. We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed your visit. However, we are very sorry to learn that your husband had an accident on the stairs. As noted on our website under Points of Note" the staircase is winding and steep", and we also offer a 3D tour to give guests a closer look at the cottage. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back to the Cotswolds in the future.

Perfect bolthole treat.

We wanted to stay somewhere cosy and convenient and in the country for our reunion with our friend who was visiting from New Zealand. All three of us adored this place, the location for proximity to the Cotswolds villages and, of course, The Fleece Inn, at the end of the row of cottages. We ate there both nights and were equally delighted with both meals.
A gorgeous find.

This was our Christmas treat, 9 nights in such a comfortable cottage with wonderful character and amenities. We were welcomed with warmth, goodies and a lit Christmas tree. So lovely! Host’s contact details were made available and response time was very quick helping us light the cooker. We would definitely consider this accommodation in the future.
Thank you to Jacquie and Paul.

We first stayed at Rose Cottage over 32 years ago and it is still a brilliant cottage to stay in! The location is excellent being only a short distance to the local community shop and maybe 100 metres from The Fleece.

Beautiful thatched cottage nestled in a quaint village! The cottage was extremely cozy and located in a charming Cotswold village. So happy we were able to stay here. Very convenient to have a pub so close by! The hosts made our stay very welcoming.

We had a lovely stay at Rose Cottage - lots of lovely walks and a chilled weekend. We loved the local pub, and the coziness of the cottage… the log burner was a bonus.
It was a great place to stay with our dogs - they certainly enjoyed the walks!
Overall a fab stay!!

I can't describe how great it felt to stay at the Rose Cottage. A little fairytale home you would never want to leave. Everything was perfect and so cosy. The Christmas decoration were wonderful, the living room so peaceful by the fireplace and the beds so comfy it was hard to get up in the morning. The location is close to lots of amazing villages and the local pub is fabulous for all meals. Thanks for having us!

We had a fabulous weekend stay in Bretforton, Rose cottage was exactly what we were looking for. It was beautiful, with lovely decorations and a tree, and we were able to cook Christmas dinner in the kitchen.
However, as tidy responsible guests we were disappointed to have to strip beds, fill laundry bags, empty the fireplace, empty bins and take recycling away, after already paying a substantial cleaning fee. The written instructions were Covid procedures which had been left in place, something I've not seen anywhere else for a couple of years, and I am hoping was an oversight as we would love to stay again. I would also recommend leaving sugar with the tea and coffee.

We really enjoyed staying at Rose Cottage. It’s the first time we have stayed in a thatched cottage and it was a very enjoyable experience. We have been to the Cotswold area many times as our daughter lives in the area and there is always things to do and see. The Fleece Inn close by is a great place for a meal and a drink. Would definitely recommend staying there and any other Bolthole property as we have also stayed at Whippet Cottage in the same village.

This was my second stay in this cottage, albeit with a different group.

I rarely return to places, but was very happy to revisit this lovely, comfortable and homely cottage in the beautiful village of Bretforton and its excellent pub The Fleece.

It was an interesting time to stay as the Asparagus season is in full swing, with much celebrating in the area.

I'd love to come back in the run up to Christmas!

We wanted a typical English country cottage for a family stay with relatives over from Australia - Rose Cottage fitted the bill perfectly!

The cottage is charming and very nicely furnished and decorated. It was very spacious even though we were at the maximum capacity of 5 adults and we had all we needed. It was still a little chilly outside and the heating was very efficient and the fire provided a cosy feel. We all said this was a place we'd happily live in.

The village was also very charming and ideally located for both the Cotswolds and the Malverns, as well as not being right in the middle of tourist central. The Fleece was superb and a fantastic place for a drink and a meal.

I found the booking process and information provided to be excellent throughout. We managed to park our two cars in the square without issue (though I imagine it is busier in high season). The only very minor comment I'd make is a couple of us found the mattresses to be a little soft, but that may be personal preference.

We'd all be happy to return and would heartily recommend.

The cottage is very traditional, cosy and well equipped. We enjoyed the living room and open fire very much, and also the dining room / table which was great for games. The location is also ideal - we took a very nice long walk directly from the front door on one day and on another made the short drive into Broadway which is a lovely town and again offers excellent walks. The Fleece Inn virtually next door is a belter (and we were not disturbed by noise from it - in fact, the cottage is very peaceful). The warning about low beams should be heeded - not just beams but in some parts the ceilings in the bedrooms upstairs are low and are an inconvenience to six footers (but would not have stopped us booking if we'd known). We would also ask that the recycling instructions are made clearer - we were very confused. Overall, though, this is exactly the sort of cottage you should be looking for if you want a cosy winter retreat for a few days. Recommended.

The cottage was lovely as was the village. Everything was spotless we were a group of 4 adults and were surprised no refills for the toilet rolls but that was the only downside.
Almost next door is The Fleece Pub - food was excellent.
Would definitely return to this beautiful cottage.

The cottage was lovely in almost every way and set in such a pretty village. A minor point to make it perfect would be clearer instructions for the heating and the coffee machine. I’m sure owners would have helped had we called them, but we didn’t want to interrupt our break doing this.
Finally, would recommend ear plugs for light sleepers in the two bedrooms nearest the church as the bells strike through the night!

Rose Cottage is as idyllic and quirky as the pictures suggest. We had a delightful stay; the cottage was clean, and well equipped. The welcome pack very much appreciated. Nothing was too much trouble, including the provision of fans in anticipation of the mid July record breaking heatwave. Lovely walks from the door, splendid Community shop a short walk away for the basics, good food at the Fleece Inn. Parking generally not a problem, just a bit tight when we arrived due to a wedding at the Church across the road. Very peaceful location, just the church bells chiming the hour as village life passes your door.
Very happy to recommend!

If total relax, chirping of the birds and a setting with astonishing colourful surroundings and a dreamlike cottage is what you want, cosy Rose Cottage is the ideal place. An added value the historic and welcoming English pub just a few metres a way and the tiny and delightful St Leonard Church just accross the road. Excellent the support provided by Bolthole Agency given we live abroad and are little acquainted with uk burocracy.

Bretforton is a beautiful village (and a great base for exploring nearby towns) and the cottage was stunning: everything you could want, from cozy rooms, to a well-equipped kitchen (with provisions for breakfast!), and a wonderful shower (and tub). It was the perfect blend of historic charm and modern comfort.
