Surrounded by Cotswold countryside near some spectacular towns and villages, Sloe Manor Cottage is a delightful original workers' cottage. Set in the peaceful village of Great Rollright there are walks from your doorstep, nearby luxury at members-only Soho Farmhouse, and a fabulous range of options for days out. Sloe Manor Cottage is full of character with its original beams and a fun-size door frame. A stay here is sure to be an adventure spotting celebrities in this exclusive area of the Cotswolds. Ideal for couples or small families, you can explore the surrounding area from Chipping Norton to Stow-on-the-Wold, Woodstock to Blenheim Palace.

Totally average I’m afraid

The bolt hole site sells the dream with ‘optimised’ pictures of the cottage and majors on the aesthetics that you’ll find. And in the main, that’s all you need if the shower is good and the bed is comfy with clean linen. Which both were.

However for the money I forked out for 3 nights. I found missing kitchen implements, mixed messaging in terms of eg a washing up kit (no sponge or scourers), a broken window. Poor maintenance. A junk cupboard. Sofas that were neither cottagey or comfy (corporate style sofas). But worst of all the cottage really smelt damp and there was visible black mould and bubbling paint. I was pretty horrified that they would let out a cottage that had such bad damp that the under sink cupboard items - where pots and pans are stored - was wet to the touch. Gross!

It was clear that the cottage was not a home (no washing machine) and was just a rental. No wardrobes at all. Mismatched fixtures and fittings that were not chosen for quality, more that will do. Door handle was not attached to the door and fell off immediately. Old soap bars from previous tenant still in place. Broken lamp, in situ. It was appalling really for the money £165 a night, I expected better quality and finesse for what is ostensibly a property in the middle of nowhere (not in a built up city).

Why would you let a property with these issues? Clearly they are known because the windows were open to try to air out the mould smell.

For the money I definitely expected better based on the marketing. I complained but nobody responded. No flocks given in the country, apparently. So here’s my honest review. 3 stars but only because the bathroom was new and bed comfy. Otherwise it’s a 2 star affair (lockable front door, walls and a roof!). Never again.

We stayed 8 nights at Sloe Manor Cottage (parents + daughter 16 years old). The cottage had everything we hoped for: well equipped kitchen, very good bathroom, separate living room and kitchen, outdoor terraces and good beds (mind your head, doors are low upstairs :-)). Great Rollright is a quiet little village with no shops available. But Chipping Norton is just a few kilometers away and has all the necessary shops such as supermarket, bakery and coffee houses. The cottage is an excellent base for trips in The Cotswolds. Most prime destinations are within one hours drive. We loved it! And many thanks to Becky, our fine host.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of your recent stay at Sloe Manor Cottage. We are very glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay, however disappointed to read the points that you have raised about the doors upstairs. On our website, we have a 3D tour available which shows the doors and in our points of note section we state "Please note you will be ducking under the door into bedroom one but it opens into a full height bedroom".

We had a lovely time, the cottage was perfect and even when we arrived there were small touches that made the stay even more special.
A perfect location and lovely big kitchen.
Heated floor for when you get out the shower and lots of recommendations for local restaurants, pubs, anything you need!
Thank you again for a wonderful stay - we will be back!
