Birch Cottage is a lovely detached holiday property sitting on a hillside overlooking Loch Long and the Firth of Clyde, near Dunoon, Argyll. It’s one of four situated within a small holiday development called Stronchullin.

Wasn't very happy due to power cut

Better to stay in summer time, muddy and windy in winter. We had power cut when we arrived at the cottage. The owners didn't let us know about it until we checked in and find out there is not electricity and heating, we called the owners to ask how to turn the power on and they said there is a power cut on site. So we were without electricity and heating on a 22/12/2024. We did survive the first night how some with 2 kids and a dog, but the next morning there were still not power back. The owner said we can go for meal and keep the receipt and claim the money back.
Of course we went for breakfast due to enough cold and wanted at least warm tea, and went for some walk.
After breakfast I call the SSEN line and asked what's going on, when the power will be back and they promised around 6pm (We were thinking to cancel this booking and find something else with) Around 4pm we went to restaurant again for warm food (owner said we can claim back all the money up to 30£/pp) We sat in restaurant by the time when we will find out if power is back. We did check on the app just after 6pm and it did said the power just went back. We did asked for the bill and went back to cottage to warm it up and see how it looks. Finely we all were happy. After 1 week of stay in the cottage we did requested the refund for our bill from restaurant. We did email the SSEN as owner said but they mention that owner should pay the bill. I did contact the owner/SSEN/Booking.com and everyone was just pointing to each other and no one was willing to pay back. We didn't get any compensation for being cold for 2 days before Christmas in a cottage that we paid for, no one care to refund at least the bill what we paid in restaurant due to not having chance to cook food in cottage, make a tea. It was just money taken from us and not any care of how the Customers feel in a cold, without food. It was so windy that even take aways cancelled all orders because no one could drive.
It wasn't really good stay and atmosphere. We was hoping to have an amazing Christmas in Scotland but unfortunately it wasn't.

During our recent stay at Birch Cottage in Stronchullin Holiday Cottages, we had a truly remarkable experience. The location of the cottage in Blairmore near Dunoon was perfect for our 6-night getaway with my wife, mother-in-law, father-in-law, and better still we could bring the dog!

From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the exceptional presentation and cleanliness of the cottage. It had a modern and stylish design with all the modern conveniences we could ask for. The fully fitted kitchen made cooking a breeze, however with the local seafood restaurants on offer, we didn't use the kitchen much (Anselmos chippy in Dunoon gets a 5-star rating, as does The George Hotel in Inveraray!). We loved spending evenings relaxed in front of the lovely wood-burning stove watching TV, and the added benefit of decent Wi-Fi helped stream the odd movie too. The spacious deck and outdoor seating area provided us with a picturesque setting to enjoy the breath-taking views over Loch Long and towards Greenock with a glass of wine or a cheeky beer or two.

The cottage not only met but exceeded our expectations in terms of cleanliness and amenities. The luxurious waterfall shower was a delightful touch, and we couldn't resist the charm of the wood-burning fireplace, which added a cosy ambiance to our evenings when needed. The wooden floor throughout the main living area was a nice touch too, and really helped the property exceed our expectations.

We took advantage of the cottage's West Coast location to explore the nearby attractions. Benmore Botanic Gardens and Pucks Glen were both stunning, and we even had the opportunity to hop on the Waverley Paddle Steamer for a memorable excursion to the Isle Of Bute. Poor weather on a number of days meant we had to seek out wet-weather options and, the accessibility to Glasgow for some shopping proved a big bonus for this (although the drive was a fair 2hrs). On other days we visited Inveraray, Cruachan Dam, and Loch Lomond for a 90-minute narrated cruise.

The overall atmosphere of the cottage was quaint, quiet, and rural, providing a peaceful retreat, yet it was well connected to nearby attractions and amenities. The fantastic hosts, particularly David, went above and beyond to ensure our stay was memorable and enjoyable.

One thing to note is that most local activities are outdoor-based, so it's advisable to be prepared for clouds of midges, the various weather conditions you'll likely face (it's West Coast Scotland!) and also consider travel times for longer excursions.

In summary, we wholeheartedly recommend Birch Cottage to others seeking a comfortable and well-appointed holiday cottage. With its excellent views, luxurious amenities, and the warm hospitality of the hosts, our experience was nothing short of fantastic.

Can't beat this location for a peaceful relaxing holiday with stunning views over Loch Long.
The cottage was very well appointed super kitchen & very well equipped. We loved sitting out on the decking & just soaking it all up.
There was only 2 of us so bear in mind if you are a party of 6 you may have to organise a bathroom rota!

Can’t recommend highly enough. I suspect the kitchen was newly refurbished - ir was beautiful. really well appointed and everything you could need. Lovely log burner. Good WiFi and TV. Comfy beds. Cracking view.

Communication before the visit was clear and helpful.

There were 4 of us - cottage was perfect. Might be a bit tight with 6 and one shower.

The location was fantastic the cottage was okay but the only thing I could find i wasn’t happy with was every plate or oven tray or piece of cutlery it had to be washed first because it just wasn’t okay but as for everything else we had a fabulous family holiday.

Birch cottage is just as described with comfortable accommodation and fabulous views over Loch Long. The owners are very friendly and helpful and we had a wonderful week at Stronchullin. We only used the ground floor as there was just two of us.
