This will be our 20ish holiday at Otter Ferry and stayed in a few lodges over the years but first time at Cockleshell. This is another super lodge on the shoreline which is great for wild swimming and dogs just love the walks around the estate. Thanks Tristan, will be back later in the year.

Cockleshell Lodge is in a great location. It is very peaceful with lovely views. The area is great for outdoor activities with plenty of opportunities for walking, cycling and swimming. We can recommend The Oystercatcher for food which is in walking distance and West Coast Wellness which is nearby.

However, Cockleshell Lodge still needs a deep clean. We hoped this would have been addressed following on from previous reviews. It was very dusty. The radiators don't work, despite the owner telling us that the log burning fire would heat the radiators. The wall heaters did provide heat, (except the one in the open plan hall/lounge. The owner told us it was on a timer, but it didn't come on). When we first used the wall heaters, we had to open the windows to let the fumes out. There were four people in our party and they had to use the spare duvets from the unused single beds for warmth. We requested an extra duvet/blanket after the first night and this was not provided. There is mould on the blinds in the back bedroom and elsewhere in the lodge.

A few positive comments, the beds were comfortable and the kitchen was adequately stocked apart from a small, sharp kitchen knife. We brought our own following previous reviews. We were only there for a few nights and we wouldn't have wanted to stay there for longer.

A lodge in a wonderful location so peaceful but within walking distance of the local restaurant.
The lodge itself is very spacious and generally well equipped however it is slightly tired and in need of some TLC.
The real downsides are the shower in the en-suite and the decking. The shower in the en-suite can only be described as dangerous as there is no control of the water temperature and when hot is scalding hot. This needs repairing ASAP before someone is hurt (child or elderly person). The decking also needs repairing. It is rotting in places and I am sure again it is not safe.
Overall we would return to the lodge but they do need to fix the above issues.

Otter Ferry is a beautiful place to stay and lodge was close to Loch Fyne so had great views of the herons and seals.
Nice walks around the estate.
The lodge itself was very comfortable not the cleanest but just gave it a wipe down myself.
Few essential things missing tea towels, lock on bathroom door a sharp knife luckily my daughter always brings 1 with her.
A suggestion to owners would be to update the decking area cockleshell wasn't too bad but the oystershell decking wasn't suitable for dogs as the spaces between the slats are too wide and there paws would go through them.
Both properties could be doing with a handrail for going up and down steps at decking area.
Tristan was very easy to get a hold of and always replied promptly.
Was a great relaxing holiday weather not the greatest but the views make up for that and didn't stop the younger ones having a swim.
There are no shops nearby but cooperative do an online delivery you have to put address as Ballimore House and in the notes ask for driver to deliver to whichever lodge you are staying in.

We had a wonderful time at our holiday home. Quiet, secluded, away from the huddle and bustle of the city, it’s perfect.
The children were invited to join in a local family Easter egg hunt, very generous of the hosts.
We had a bit of a situation with sinking sand and perhaps a notice near the area would benifit from further incidents happening in the future.
The accommodation is lovely, comfortable and clean, the kitchen is very well stocked, though could do with the addition of some new glasses, the kitchen window doesn’t close, which is fine in the time of year we went, in winter months could be problematic.
We took a couple of trips to Portavarde leisure facilities, with its outdoor heated infinity pool, it’s a must if your in the area, you need to book before hand. Kid friendly.
I would book cockleshell again without any hesitation….we were met by one of the hosts to make sure we had gained access to our accommodation, very friendly and a lovely touch. You come away from cockleshell feeling very relaxed.

Loved Otter Ferry, nothing there and shops are miles away and a trek so come well stocked up. Its beautiful location, stunning scenery, the spring wildflowers were breath taking and the smell of bluebells was awesome, The gardens are full of old well established plants and trees which have been left to their own devices, so its a lovely place to wander around in a chilled and relaxed location. The loch is just on the door step and is so clean and wonderful to just sit and watch. The weather was mixed but even watching the stormy weather on the loch was a joy.

Cockleshell had an amazing outlook onto Loch Fyne, we spent hours on the comfy sofas just watching the tides & bird life.
The lodge was comfortable & well appointed. Although the parts I imagine would be covered in the change-over clean (bathrooms, kitchen, floors etc) were spotless, the lodge could do with a more general clean eg lots of cobwebs on the wood panelled walls, windows inside & out.
The lodge is part of a plot of around 20 chalets, the 5 advertised for holiday let and the rest appear to be residential, so there was maybe a few more people around than we expected. The location felt a lovely escape from every day life, but also involved quite a lot of single track road driving to get anywhere. This wasn’t a great problem, but means it takes longer than you’d expect to get out & about.

Absolutely stunning location, peaceful and ideal for just getting away from busy life. Very well equipped lodge and comfortable beds. The log fire and heating made for a lovely warm stay whilst the wind howled and snow and hail fell.
Loved being able to let the dogs straight out onto the small beach and they loved their walks along the shore line and through the woods.
Easy to get to Portavardie and get a ferry to Tarbert to explore a little and dinner at the Oystercatcher was delicious but book first.

Nice quiet place to stay the lodge was lovely thank you.

Cockleshell Lodge is in an amazing location, just steps from the loch. The lodge itself is warm and comfortable.
The lodge is quite remote from shops so be sure to take enough food to store in the ample fridge/freezer.
It’s a bird watchers paradise. The lodge has powerful binoculars.
Perfect for water sports. We intend taking a canoe next time we visit Cockleshell lodge.
Beautiful walks to be had on the estate but be prepared for the weather !
A few kitchen items need to be replaced, eg the cooking knives were blunt and the vegetable sieve was rusty. Minor irritations.
Argyll Cottages were most helpful in adjusting our holiday dates this year. Due to quarantine restrictions in Germany my family needed to return earlier than planned.
We are looking forward to our next visit

We were very lucky with the weather and enjoyed sitting out on the deck for morning coffee and enjoying the activity on the Loch most mornings.
Would love to return.

We stayed for a long weekend at the lodge and enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere and friendly welcome. A beautiful and peaceful break. The views are spectacular from the lounge area and the lodge is comfortable and warm (the weather was mostly sunny but very cold for May). The log burner was just the job! The pub is close by - an easy stroll and serves excellent simple food. We have booked to come back in November.

We enjoyed a wonderful short break in Cockleshell Lodge. The Loch is literally a stone’s throw from the well appointed cottage. Perfect situation for water sports, birdwatching and beach combing. We dug for shellfish which we cooked and enjoyed enormously. The estate is very safe for children to play, run about, cycle and walk. It’s so quiet and peaceful.
The Lodge itself is very comfortable with a wood burning stove. There were beach towels also which was a bonus.
Ensure you take plenty food as the nearest shop is in Tighnabruaich. There is a large freezer in the kitchen which is quite well equipped. There were no egg cups, however, and the vegetable knives could have been better.
These minor inconveniences, however, in no way detracted from our wonderful break and we will definitely return for another family holiday.

Second time I have stayed here. The view is spectacular and the location is stunning. The lodge is comfortable and well equipped. It would be a nice touch to have a welcome food pack with essentials. I am sure people must turn up not realising how far it is to the nearest shop! The booking process is efficient, friendly and helpful. Just hope they can all keep going in these uncertain times. Very happy to support them by holidaying here.

Excellent location, very relaxing holiday despite the terrible weather. Great views, lovely to watch all the changing weather conditions sat in the comfort of the lounge. The lodge was well equipped with all we needed and with comfortable beds, but as someone else commented they could do with another lamp in the lounge area. Great food in the area as well. A beautiful location, couldn’t have asked for more stunning views. We enjoyed walking & exploring the estate & the amazing sunsets. This cottage is perfect if you want to ‘escape from it all’ and enjoy walking. The only thing I would say to anyone staying here is to make sure you are well stocked up on supplies before you arrive as the nearest shop is 13 miles away with a main supermarket over an hour’s drive so you can’t just ‘pop out’ if you need something!

Wonderful location on the shores of Loch Fyne: Otterferry. Lovely to be back. Chalet was comfortable and cosy. WiFi was poor and no dvd player but we could live without that for a week! Toilet seat in main bathroom was broken and fridge was not very clean. Would help to have the hallway door put back up again as helps prevent any noise disturbing sleeping kids in the evening!
Overall a lovely holiday week.

The lodge was very welcoming and comfortable, we were surprised how spacious it was. The location was so beautiful and we were lucky enough to have some good weather. The living area could be doing with a couple of extra lamps as the main lighting was too bright in the evening, although this did not impact whatsoever on our stay The dogs loved it as did we and we will most definitely return.

Despite mixed weather, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cockleshell Lodge. The sheltered bay allows for safe bathing and water sports and our 2 teenagers had a great time. The scenery is lovely and the area is so peaceful.
The lodge is cosy and comfortable and has almost everything you need.
Just a couple of suggestions - perhaps a pint of milk could be left in the fridge? There was tea, coffee & sugar but no milk. I'm used to staying in holiday lets where a welcome pack is left so had assumed there would be one at Cockleshell Lodge.
The nearest shop is a 25 minute drive away so a round trip for a pint of milk is almost an hour!
Also better directions to the property would help, as there are 2 entrances to the estate and typically we chose the wrong one as there were no instructions. We drove round for quite some time before we found the property and realised if we'd used the other entrance it would have been simpler.
These are minor things and certainly didn't hamper our enjoyment. We would recommend the lodge and the area and we are looking forward to returning.

Beautiful lodge and stunning surroundings. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The only thing I would recommend is a house manual where it explains how to use appliances such as the dishwasher and the log fire. Details of how to connect to the wifi and nearest emergency contacts such as doctors and emergency numbers would be great for foreigners. A corkscrew is also a good idea. However apart from that the lodge and area is absolutely stunning. I would highlyrecommed the Cockleshell lodge
