Gorgeous cottage on the loch with amazing views right over to Inverary on a clear day.
Very clean and extremely well equipped and the owners extremely friendly.
It would have been nice to have some drawers in the master bedroom for clothing but this didn't effect our stay at all and we could use some in the second bedroom where the children stayed.
We managed to see some seals, cormorants and a heron from the beach just outside the loch and we even captured the Northern lights (in August!!) from the lochside on our last night.
I would recommend and I would stay there again.
Stunning location

The location could not be better, beautiful views and access to fabulous places to walk and visit. It was freezing whilst we were there but the house is super warm and cosy. The house had everything we needed.
Stunning, quiet location for lovely, small cottage on the banks of Loch Fyne

We had an amazing stay at Darroch Beag in late July into early August 2023. The cottage is lovely - very quaint, but perfect for our needs. Great walks from the front door along what was the old loch-side road, which is partly blocked just south of the cottage, so no passing traffic. Views across the Loch to Inveraray were stunning with the Loch often resembling glass. Highlights in the local region were visits to the secret coast of Argyll and the beach at Ostel Bay as well as a trip that combined Puck's Glen and Benmore Botanic Gardens.
Charming cottage on the shore of Loch Fyne

Enjoyed a lovely week stay at this lovely comfortable cottage with my husband and dog. Home from home with all necessary requirements available. Idyllic views of Loch Fyne. Very easy to explore local area and Cowal Peninsula from this location. Inveraray just 30 min drive on the other side of the loch.
Quiet cosy cottage.

I feel in love with the photos advertised on the site as they highlighted what appeared to be a beautiful large enclosed garden but upon arrival we encountered a small enclosed garden that was 'surrounded by the owners garden'. Not what we wanted or needed for our dog. This meant we could not relax by the water as the dog could wander off. Plus the lochside bench area is not part of the garden and is accessed by crossing the small road outside. The house itself was in need of some TLC. The upstairs window had a sign on it telling you not to open it and there were two very noisy carbon monoxide detectors upstairs. There was a strong smell of dampness in the utility room, which strangely housed the microwave. There was instructions for covid cleaning but non of the bags for bedding were provided. We definitely won't return to this cottage!

Fantastic location and area, very quiet location. Beautiful little cottage with plenty of facilities available and a couple of local beers as a welcome gift, although some milk would've been good!
Its a sweet, picture perfect cottage to stay in. Some wear and tear but comfortable. However, there are a couple of negatives which if were given some attention, would make this place a knock-out.
The front door is a lovely antique but as such, it doesnt fit properly and allows wind, rain, insects etc to come through. It also is not very secure. The same can be said for all the windows as all old single glazing, and some frames were ill fitting and corroded. There is also an issue with insects getting into the bathroom.
There's obviously been a problem in the past with mice, but not now, as lots of rentokil poison traps in every room., which in themselves are no problem but we travelled with our dog, and so these were a source of worry and potentially a health hazard, as he was interested in them.
We enjoyed our stay and were very grateful to have found this place.
Rustic & quirky cottage in pretty location with winding stairs & cosy log fire.

With panelled ceilings, winding staircase & rustic feel - cottage has fab views & walks. We were warm & comfy despite accommodation suffering ‘end of season’ blues. Tip - take a peanut feeder to see wonderful birds, red squirrels etc. Great base to explore gorgeous Scotland in its spectacular Autumn glory.
Mouse infestation and poor cleanliness.

We had a very disappointing stay. Starting with the good points- the cottage is in a tremendous position.
We arrived to find the cottage in a very poor state of cleanliness. The fridge was switched off and dirty. The kitchen floor and surfaces were similarly dirty.
More of a concern was the obvious rodent infestation. There was obvious attempts to control the mice with traps in each room and plug-in sonic devices. Depite that, there was at least 50 mouse droppings on the carpet in my daughter's room and the upstairs cupboard was unusuable due to the amount of droppings. We spent the first 3 hours of our trip scrubbing the kitchen and hoovering the droppings. There was also rrubbish bags from previous guests at the side of the house. Aagin this was eaten by rodents. We had dispose of this personally-despite this being from previous guests.
I contacted the owner and agent by m e-mail and the owner contacted me by telephone immediately. He was very helpful and courteous and provided an immediate partial refund.
Throughout the trip we were plaqued by the mice. Anything left on the kitchen floor was eaten and ultimately we had to leave a day early as my daughters were terrified by the mouse's repeated appearance in the kitchen.
I emailed the owner and the letting agency but received no reply.
We would not return and i feel the house, as it stands, is not in a condition to be rented .

‘Mr Lindsay, we are truly sorry that you did not enjoy your stay at Darroch Beag. You will recall that we explained to you that we are currently stuck overseas due to coronavirus and were trying our best to deal with your concerns at a great distance and a 6 hour time difference. You do not mention in your review that we arranged immediately on hearing of your concerns about the cleanliness of our property, for our housekeeping team to send someone to Darroch Beag to clean it again from top to bottom. You also do not mention the fact that our housekeeping team assured us that the property had been cleaned in accordance with coronavirus protocols. Unfortunately Argyll and Bute council have removed our refuse bins from the top of the driveway and after hearing from you about the problem with rubbish, contacted them immediately to secure a replacement. We must also mention that you are the only guest to have complained since our reopening after a lengthy closure due to Covid and we hope that you will reconsider your review in light of our immediate and very generous waiver of the cost of two nights’ stay. We look forward to welcoming you in person to Darroch Beag in future.’
A hidden gem

We found Darroch Beag to be very cosy and comfortable, and in a beautifully secluded (yest accessible) location with wonderful views over Loch Fyne - just as the description specified. Mark the owner, very friendly gent, checked in with us midweek to see if everything was ok, which it was, and then left us to it. We simply can't fault this cottage, it was like a home from home (but better). Just a minor point. An information folder would have been beneficial with house rules detailing what to do with bins, towels, bedding, when leaving etc. Also with information on nearest doctors, hospital, etc. All cottages tend to provide this and is very useful.
This did not in any way affect our stay though, as we have stayed in numerous holiday cottages in Scotland over the years and are very familiar with what to expect. We would highly recommend this property and definitely one we would like to return to. And apologies to Mark & Morven, we forgot to leave a review in your guest book. But we did visit a few of the areas recommended by previous guests... it truly is a beautiful part of the world. Thanks again for a lovely stay and for the fine(Fyne) local beers on arrival.
