Lovely comfortable cottage with the most stunning view over Sound of Bute. Gate cottage has everything you would need to make yourself at home, with a well equipped kitchen encompassing all appliances, WiFi and a firestick to sign into, comfortable furnishings to relax onto and also a pretty outdoor garden with parking. Walks in this area are aplenty and we managed to tire our springer spaniel out everyday! Local store is good for basics but otherwise be prepared for a day out to stock up for your stay, not a hardship in this beautiful area! we chose to make a trip out to Dunoon and had a lovely day full of autumnal scenery, bird spotting, fish and chips, coffee with cake, short walks and we even remembered to get the shopping. Dog owners, please be aware the lovely garden is enclosed but is not made secure to keep your dog in. Our party consisted of 5 adults 1 with reduced mobility who uses a collapsible wheelchair for distance and 1 a keen golfer, therefore a walk in shower and spacious accommodation made this a pleasant stay, with only 3 steps down into the lounge a consideration but not a problem for us at this time, the golfer of the party was more than pleased with the close proximity of the 9 hole golf course and enjoyed its challenge on a few occasions. Would recommend Gate cottage and consider retuning, many thanks for a lovely family holiday.

Our stay here was lovely, unfortunately we were staying during Storm Agnes so the weather was dreadful. Beautiful cottage, a little out of the way and a long trip down but if you are looking for peace and quite and a beautiful view of Bute and the Kyle of Bute then this is the place to stay. We found the ferries brilliant very quick and much easier ro come via the ferries than all the way down from Loch Lomond. The cottage has everything and was spotless. Would definitely recommend Gate Cottage.

Gate Cottage is in a beautiful part of Scotland and is a comfortable cottage. Disappointing that you can't enter the cottage until 5.30pm, unlike all of the other holiday homes we have stayed in which have been around 3-4pm! No welcome pack either which is very unusual these days!

Everything about this location and cottage was fantastic. The view out over the sea was beautiful where you could watch the gannets diving to feed and the otters swimming in the evening. All the facilities were clean, comfortable and everything worked well. The local hotel was within walking distance and served good food. Can also highly recommend The Wild Kitchen ,also walkable,for superb coffee and awesome cake! No shortage of places to see, things to do, fabulous views and pubs and eateries with a selection of fish and seafood to die for.

beautiful location with stunning views .Cottage is comfortable we made the mistake of not getting milk for when we arrived and as the only shop was closed we had to wait until the morning as it is the only cottage we have ever been to with no welcome pack at all. We also left a day early as the neighbouring cottage had workmen cutting down the back garden trees and greenery and using a bonfire to burn some of it for 2 days so all windows and doors had to be kept closed

We had a fabulous week at Gate Cottage, only negative as such was we had our two big dogs with us and felt the garden wasn’t as secure as we would have liked. Wasn’t a problem, we just kept the dog on a lead when in the garden, other dog just plods around. Gardens are beautiful and as the weather was lovely we spent time sitting on the bench looking over the water to Bute. Cottage is lovely and it was bliss to sit and look out of the big windows. It certainly a place to chill and clear your head. Found everyone friendly who we met and found the village store well stocked with bits you might need. Overall we loved it.

We had an excellent stay at gate cottage. The house is very comfortable and well equipped. Beautiful views to the Kyles of Bute from the living rooms and relaxing walks right from the door. The Oystercatcher at Otter Ferry is the best local restaurant in an another amazing setting.

Our family comes to this part of Scotland every year and this is the best house we have stayed in. So much so we are booking it again for next year! As two couples we found the layout of the house really met our needs. The house was well equipped, modern showers, cosy fireplace, Sky TV, Wi-Fi. The best room by far is the kitchen/diner, with two windowed walls looking out directly to the Kyles of Bute, breath taking views every day, we saw plenty of seals in the water and deer on the beach and in the garden. There is a handy cupboard/room off the kitchen with all the glasses in it, plenty of shelving space and an additional fridge, this made for a perfect drinks area. The kitchen then had a further large fridge/freezer which was plenty big enough for 4 adults self catering for two weeks. Couldn't fault the property at all. Looking forward to going back.

Great location right on the Kyles, you could spend all day just drinking the view in from the living/kitchen window. The cottage has been beautifully renovated and is as clean as a whistle with wifi and all your modern conveniences. Great spot for exploring the Cowal peninsula but you can see lots of wildlife on your doorstep including deer in the garden and lots of sea birds on the rocks below the cottage. There are otters as well but alas this week we didn't spot them we will be returning to this lovely cottage.

Lovely well equipped and comfortable cottage in a beautiful location, close to the amenities of Kaimes and Tighnabruaich. The cottage has a modern kitchen and living space with a picture window giving stunning views of the Kyles of Bute and Isle of Bute beyond. The lounge area is spacious with comfy furniture and basic Sky TV channels. The cottage is tastefully decorated and furnished throughout with some interesting artefacts! There are three bedrooms and the master bedroom has a modern en-suite shower room. The main bathroom is modern with a shower over the bath. Heating is electric and after some experimentation proved easy to control. Hot water was plentiful. The cottage is pet friendly and has a large grassed, secure garden and also across the road there is a large grassed area which leads down to the beach. There a numerous excellent walks from the cottage and further afield. The Kaimes Hotel is only half a mile away and serves excellent food and drinks in a convivial atmosphere. We would recommend a trip to Benmore gardens and Portavadie Marina which has access to a lovely Spa facility. We would definitely return!

Lovely comfortable cottage in a stunning location. Unfortunately our stay coincided with storm Ciara but this didn’t stop us getting out & about. Lovely part of our country. Only let down was the cottage was freezing on arrival & initial lack of logs for Woodburning stove. This was soon sorted by a trip to the local store.

I absolutely loved Gate Cottage!! We stayed there for two weeks while touring the islands and West Coast if Scotland. The cottage is incredibly stylishly decorated and has everything you could ever need in the kitchen. We also had family staying with us and everyone loved it!! There is a lovely hotel within 5 minutes walk, which serves up great food and drinks. The setting is ideal with astonishing scenery. There is nothing I can fault and I’ll definitely be back.

I don’t think that just because it was a spectacularly warm Easter swayed our opinions. Kames is a wonderful, secluded village right on the water’s edge and Gate Cottage couldn’t be much closer to the beach and the loch. The beach was so clean, litter-free, and full of sea shells, bird life and the occasional yacht. The view from the cottage is of rural Bute, with the sun coming up over the island each morning. The cottage itself is an extended and refurbished single storey dwelling, with off road parking, and a decent sized garden. We would have spent more evenings outside but there was no garden furniture. The cottage was very clean and smartly presented, with pretty much everything we needed. The all important WiFi worked a treat, fast and trouble free. The village stores are about 10 minutes amble away but for a wider range and reasonable prices you need to drive over to Tighnabruaich. It was sad to leave - we concluded we needed to come back to Kames and Gate Cottage very very soon!
