A lovely lodge in a delightful location BUT and it’s a big but, it is a long way from the nearest shop so take everything with you. The nearest shop is a 1 hour round trip down a single track road.
After all that the lodge is lovely. Very spacious and nicely decorated with lovely views of Loch Fyne from the living room and the master bedroom.
The kitchen is very well equipped with lots of cutlery, crockery etc. but lacks any instructions on how to use the oven.
The heating is storage heaters and electric wall heaters plus a log burner. More than adequate.
Two electric showers. Not the most powerful but perfectly okay.
Lots of wildlife including deer, otters, red squirrels and lots of birds.
We really enjoyed our stay

The lodge was great with plenty of logs for the log burner. Bedrooms were very comfortable and bathrooms and kitchen very clean.

There was plenty for us to do with walks along the loch and through the forestry. The local pub was about a 10 minute walk providing some lovely food and drinks.

If I had to pick fault it would be that there were no operating instructions for the oven and the dishwasher was not working properly but these were minor inconveniences.

I would definitely book again.

If you’re looking for somewhere, well away from the madding crowd, then, the Tighnabruaich area, where the Musselshell Lodge is, is just the place. It’s overlooking the shores of Lough Fyne, which fill the view through the large sliding door onto your lovely wooden balcony.

The lodge has all the modern comforts you could need. WiFi, dishwasher, lovely silent Mira showers!
The electric car charger was such a welcome boon too.
It’s about a half-hour drive to shops at Kyle and Tighnabruaich, and the ferry at Portavadie for Kintyre.
There are lovely walks around the Ballimore Estate where the lodge is located. There’s a pub and restaurant just a 15 minute ramble away, at Otter Ferry. Excellent food, and fabulously friendly staff.
A lovely retreat.

We love staying here. It is well equipped and a beautiful location.

( off the record I spent ages trying to find a booklet with instructions for the oven, and I arrived v late on my own, and wanted to cook on the hot plates of the cooker ,and found it really hard to work out. )

Spent a week at Musselshell Lodge, and couldn't have been happier. Clean, comfortable, with immediate response from the caretakers when we had an issue with the plumbing toward the end of our stay. If we ever decide to holiday in that region again, without a doubt we'd stay here. Highly recommend!

We had a lovely week kayaking and paddle boarding on the loch. The cottage location on the loch was what we needed - especially a big thank you to the lady gardener who cleared a path down to the loch for us. Shame the lodge was not up to our cleanliness standard that we are use to. We had to Vacuum bedroom on arrival as the carpet had lots of hair on it. The sink on the en-suite had blue toothpaste on it which we didn’t have with us. The bathroom was in need of an upgrade as it had a damp smell and overall the lodge was covered in cobwebs and the window frames although in need of replacement could have done with a clean and the oven what can I say ??? I don’t know last when it was cleaned. I could go on and on. The bed linen and towels were of a good standard but the lodge itself is very tired. Internet was only available in the bedroom.A shame we we were let down as the location on the loch is lovely. We will certainly be back to Loch Fynne but not Musselshell lodge.

The lodge is in a beautiful location only a few metres from the shore of Loch Fyne. Fabulous views from our windows, both front and back. An ideal place for anyone interested in bird watching. The accommodation is spacious and the beds very comfortable. The place is well heated which is essential because the evenings were cold. The kitchen is well appointed and stocked with most things although a couple of large saucepans and a casserole dish wouldn’t go amiss. The Oystercatcher pub 0.8miles walk away along the shore is a lovely dog friendly place to eat with excellent food; although very small so booking a must. It also serves ales from the Loch Fyne brewery which are well worth trying. A thing to be well aware of is the remoteness of Otter Ferry. It is 9 miles drive to the nearest small village store at Kames along a very narrow but well maintained single track road with passing places. It is essential that you take all provisions for your stay. The other road from Otter Ferry to Inver (around 9 miles) is also single track but in a very poor state of repair in places. This remoteness adds to the charm of the place in one respect but adds significant time onto journeys when out and about in a car. There is very little on the side of the loch that Otter Ferry is situated on but much more to see and do on the Inveraray side of the loch. The George in Inveraray is an excellent dog friendly place to have lunch.

There were some disappointments with our stay. The properties Wi-Fi and smart tv functions (Netflix, Prime, iPlayer etc..) referenced on the agents website did not work during the entirety of our stay despite reporting this to the owner Tristan and the booking agents Argyll and Bute Self Catering. It still wasn’t working on the morning we left. It took from Friday the 1st April until Tuesday 5th April for the owner to contact us about it and the issue was unresolved. The place was not particularly thoroughly clean on arrival. The oven was very dirty, the top of the fridge was thick with dust and grease and a previous occupants clothes had been left in a drawer in the second bedroom. The smell from the hoover in the property is really bad so a strong stomach needed if you choose to use it. Hot water for the kitchen sink could only be obtained with the tap running at a trickle and no information of any kind regarding the appliances was available which led to some confusion on how to heat the water. Parking is available at the side of the lodge but be wary if your vehicle is low slung as it may bottom on the gravel drive which is in need of levelling.

All in a all I would say that Musselshell Lodge is in a beautiful location and has a number of comfortable features but is still a work in progress with a number of improvements that could be made. Also more could have been done to address the faults with the lack of internet access much earlier during our stay. The availability of this service is pretty essential given the remoteness of the location.

Musselshell Lodge was a great stay for the long weekend. Given the dreadful weather, being able to light a fire and watch the water was just fantastic.

It cozied up in no time and was a great base to explore the shores of Loch Fyne, on foot and by car.

Peaceful, quiet, and had everything we could have needed.

A wonderful relaxed week in a stunning setting. Musselshell Lodge was spacious, well equipped and very comfortable. The living areas, the deck and the main double bedroom has sea views, so lovely to wake up to the views. An ideal location to explore the region or to just chill out. We loved the peaceful location, beach-combing and the nearby walks. We had a delicious lunch at the famous Inver restaurant in Strathlachlan, (30 mins away from lodge) the food was delicious and of a high standard – pre-booking is a must. The nearest store is 30 minutes away so make sure you stock up well. There is online shopping available to be delivered to the lodge with the Co-Op and a seafood delivery van called ‘Fynest Fish’ selling fresh fish, fruit and vegetables that passes through each Wednesday but all must be pre-booked online. The local pub 'The 'Oystercatcher' is just a mile away. We cant wait to return.

Fantastically comfortable lodge with amazing views, and a tranquility.

If you just want a place to put your feet up and breathe you really couldn't do much better than here. The lodge is well equipped, very comfortable and minutes from the excellent Oystercatcher. Once here you can explore the lovely Cowal peninsula, or just stay put. Either way you'll have a lovely time.

Be aware there's not much around so do come equipped with supplies, especially as CoVid requirements mean little is supplied. Do not rely on eating at the Oystercatcher your first night either, it is very popular. Booking is essential.
