Nursery cottage was a beautiful house, in a beautiful location. When myself, my step daughter and our two dogs arrived, I had texts from the owner welcoming us and offering assistance if needed, which was lovely. there were lots of instructions and reminders around the place to help familiarise you.
Not feeling the cold that much we tried to control the heating as instructed by the thermostatas it was like a sauna! But it continued to go up to 32° which was way too hot for us! No matter what we did it was way too hot. Every time we turned it right down, it crept back up again. We had to open doors and windows which let the flies in. Not really ideal. We were trying to save energy by turning the heating off. It wasn't that cold out.
The beds weren't comfortable for us, way too soft and the one in the back bedroom you could feel the springs. So unfortunately we both didn't sleep too well. There was no consistency with the pillows. Some where firm ISH, some were way too soft. If they were trying to cater for all needs then they did well!
We paid extra to take our two well behaved dogs, and they were. However, next doors dog was wanting to play and jumping up at the neighbours fence (as dogs do!) to say hello. But the lady neighbour clearly had an issue with this and made us feel really uncomfortable with comments and dirty looks which made us feel that it was a huge inconvenience to have us there. Her husband was fine. He was friendly.
So we didn't appreciate her attitude, my daughter tried to make pleasantries but got ignored.
Feeding the squirrels as instructed was a lovely thing and we loved that. It was great to see they were being nurtured with the provided nuts to leave out for them, especially coming up to Winter.
I've got to say, you couldn't want for anything in there. There were books, games to play and a towel provided to dry your wet dog if you forgot your own dog supplies (being responsible dog owners we didn't)
Especially the kitchen, you had everything you could possibly need there.
However, to pay just short of £800 for a week stay and then be asked to hoover and strip all the bedding and clean up everywhere after ourselves so thoroughly, I felt we were doing the cleaners job for them!
I've never experienced staying in a place before where I have had to follow so many rules for fear of being charged penalties for.
I strongly recommend that only very clean and tidy people stay here who haven't got pets or children. We were out most of the time every day so it's not as if we were there all the time.
It's a lovely place but the stay felt quite stressful, especially with the attitude of the neighbour who clearly didn't like living next to a place that was rented out, and all the scrutinising that we had to do to make sure all was as it should be.
I agonised over leaving an honest review. But the owners need the feedback, good and bad.
Personally, I wouldn't feel comfortable staying here again.

When we arrived at 4.45, the hob was not cleaned and the dining end floor was swimming in water. The fence in the garden was not secure for the dogs, my daughter had to have leads on the two dogs every time they went out even in the pouring rain. I sent a photo of the fencing to Argyle.

We are extremely upset and dismayed by your review. We feel this is very unfair. The average score of this property is 5/5 Stars. Your review can impact guests booking our cottage. As advised on the listing the garden fence is enclosed, however as per the photos on our listing it is clear adventurous dogs could escape the garden. We always recommend small and adventurous dogs to be supervised, and on leads. With regard to the housekeeping, in the arrival instructions we provide a housekeeping contact and our contact number for any questions or concerns as we understand issues may arise. If your concern was reported straight away housekeeping would have dealt with this for you immediately. We are sorry this impacted your stay in one of our popular cottages.

Peaceful and relaxing.

After having to cancel our original booking due to a family death, all involved were very accommodating in rearranging our booking. Property fulfilled our expectations of a peaceful relaxing time away. Owner very willing to answer any questions if needed. Most enjoyable time away.

Excellent location with stunning views.

Cottage is spacious, well laid out and well furnished: very comfortable and relaxing.

Communication was excellent both prior to and during the stay.

A great place to use as a base to explore the amazing area and then relax with a wee glass or two watching the sun go down over the gorgeous views of the water and hills.

The cottage was perfect for us, 2 adults, a preteen and a dog. A cosy feel with a view you can never tire of. Loved sitting on the veranda with a morning cuppa, just beautiful. We had our paddle boards and there was no shortages of places close by to launch. We took a day trip to the Isle of Bute and visited all the places close by, Puk’s Glen, Benmore Botanic Gardens, Kilmun Arboretum, so much to see and do, truly stunning location. We didn’t do much cooking but the cottage has everything you need, including some essentials like, salt, sauces, tea, coffee etc. There was plenty dish towels, dish cloths, washing up liquid etc and plenty bath towels, soap, shampoo and conditioner. Over all absolutely everything has been thought of. I would highly recommend a stay here.

This was our third time coming back to Nursery Cottage and it was as lovely as ever. It’s the perfect base for exploring the local area, our favourites this year were Puck’s Glen and Ardentinny beach on a sunny day. We also got to try food at The Strone Inn which was delicious!
Jo couldn’t be more helpful and accommodating, we feel very lucky to get to stay in this gem of a cottage, it really is a special place.

We had a 10 day stay in the cottage and found it a lovely, peaceful place to hang out, especially in bad weather etc with the log burner and wonderful ever changing view of the tidal river and mountains further afield. The house has been uodated with bare floorboards in many oarts. The kitchen and bathroom are nice sizes and modern.

The only 2 niggles were that the garden isnt securely enclosed for dogs although there is a full boundary, short metal fence, our dog is more than capable of springing over it! Plus it has bits underneath that have holes. The other was that we found the beds didnt have the best supporting mattresses for us.
Otherwise a very relaxed stay, thank you!

Stayed here with two small dogs for a week. Lovely location and quiet. Cottage fully equipped.
Unfortunately garden not secure for small dogs to roam freely as can get under the fence in places, so we had to tether ours.

Relaxing, peaceful break.

We had a lovely week at Nursery Cottage. The cottage is in an ideal location, lovely quiet spot yet very close to places to visit, and supermarkets just down the road in Dunoon for anything you might need. The weather was kind to us, so the view from the sitting room and garden was really special. Places for eating out just down the road too. Our dog had super time running around the enclosed garden, which was a big plus for us as we don't allow her off lead when we're out and about away from home.

The cottage was lovely and so easy to find .The view from the lounge window was amazing and watching the red squirrel feed there was even a tub with nuts to feed them. It had everything you need with lots of cooking utensils and plenty of hot water and lovely clean towels and bed linen. We had a fantastic holiday and was just down the road from Benmore Botanic Gardens which had some lovely walks and a lovely coffee shop.

Fabulous cottage has everything you need and is spotlessly clean. Views from the front lounge are stunning across the tidal river and to the mountains topped with snow, with red squirrel in the garden. Arrived from Glasgow via Loch Lomond to enjoy the scenic drive. Our favourite dog walks were Kilmun Arboretum, Puck’s Glen, Benmore Gardens and Ettrick Bay on the Isle of Bute.

Really enjoyed our stay. The cottage was clean and spacious with lots of modern facilities. The large window in the lounge really accentuated the view out onto the river and the mountains beyond. Some complimentary wine and shortbread didn’t do any harm either! Thoroughly recommended.

Perfect peaceful location with beautiful views. Comfortable, clean well equipped cottage. Just a couple of suggestions- a mirror in bedroom would be good and an outside washing line (there is an outside line that is covered with a lean to)

A lovely situated cottage. We watched the small river in front of the cottage ebb and flow , with herons , ducks and swans. To the back of the cottage was a forest and we saw red squirrels and daily visits by yellow wagtails. The cottage was situated so you could get easy ferries to Bute and back to the outskirts of Glasgow on our return journey home. A good cottage experience.

Our stay at nursery cottage was perfect from beginning to end. We were in need of some much needed down time from a busy year and we could not think of a better location to achieve this. Our host, Jo, was an absolute pleasure do deal with and reflected the ambience of her lovely property, which had such a warm and homely feel to it. With stunning views over the Glen's and river, you can either sit in the living room with a brew and let the view change right infant of you at your convenience or get out there and explore it on foot for yourself.
Nursery Cottages location was ideal for peace and tranquility, but offers a short drive to Dunoon where we found everything we needed.
Can't recommend this place enough.

Nursery cottage was peaceful and tranquil with amazing view from lounge window . It was clean, had comfy beds and we were adequately catered for .
A guest review book may have been nice , and a blind at the kitchen window and bathroom window , especially when it’s dark and lights need to be on would well not go a miss . But overall quite impressive , apart from bits missing from the cluedo board game The squirrel was a bonus as was the kind gesture of using the free passes for 2 people into Benmore gardens .

If your looking to get away from the hustle and bustle and want a relaxing holiday this is the place for you, the fantastic views from the property alone will make you feel relaxed. Plenty of fantastic walks and lochs all local , stayed with our 2 kids and 2 dogs , great family chilled holiday , great walks and some great paddle boarding spots including just across the road from the house. After all those walks great to come back to a nice warm cosy and relaxing house Would definitely recommend.

My husband has been working very hard, and we were both in need of a break. Nursery Cottage provided us with peace and tranquillity, not forgetting the amazing views-which were splendid from every angle.
The cottage itself, was very well organised, and provided a safe and very clean place to escape to.
Jo Barnes, was more then helpful, her information of where to go was most helpful. Her people skills were fantastic. She also provided me with enormous help, when I thought I had left a wallet behind in the cottage! I would totally recommend Nursery Cottage. It also catered well for our brown lab.
Thank you so much.
kind regards,
Sally & Robert Gracie

We managed to get a late booking on this newly added property. From start til finish the service was fantastic. Owner Jo answered every question we had promptly. House location is perfect . 5/10 minutes walk to small local hotel where u can dine indoors or outdoors dogs welcome outdoors house over loojs end of river and views from garden are stunning our 2 small westies just had the best time in the very secure garden and inside the house has everything you could possible ask for. Very modern and just loved the kitchen stable door weather was kind and we spent most of our evenings in the garden. Will defibately return and wish Jo and family all the best
