We loved our stay, the accommodation was perfect and it was great to have so much space! The games room and log fires were well used, as was the beach which was great for swimming, snorkelling, paddle boarding and kayaking. The kitchen had everything we needed and the seating area off it was a stunning place to take in the views. Also great to have board games and books to dip into. The local shop was good for extra supplies, and would highly recommend Kames Hotel for a meal out.

An excellent place with wonderful views Good for total relaxation. Reading, walking along the loch and board games. Not much else to do which suited us. An excellent local shop but glad we took most supplies with us! No welcome pack which was very disappointing. If we hadn't bought teabags we would have been stuck! Shop closes at 6pm!!!!!

Very comfortable with lots of space. Very well equipped climbing down to the beach needs care but good fun for the children when there. An otter family playing was a bonus.

The property was outstanding in every way. There were eight of us, across three generations of family, and every single one of us was bowled over with the house. There was enough space and sufficient leisure rooms for us all to have our own space, as well as family space together. In addition to being spotlessly clean, it was modern and expansive, both inside and outside, with excellent facilities... including its own private beach! The views were stunning, and I would recommend this to any group wanting a break. The only thing you can't guarantee is the weather, but it was fun to watch not only the variety of yachts sailing past the house, but also the waves getting bigger and bigger from the loch-view window.
In addition to the house being ideal, the letting agents couldn't have been more friendly, efficient, helpful and professional. Their communication with me was excellent, and they went out of their way to make sure we were satisfied at every stage of the process.
Can't praise the whole experience enough.

The house layout was ideal for our family mix. It had ample parking.
Very well equipped for self catering.
Fantastic situation on waterfront. We even saw the Waverley passing at a distance.
Limited scope for walking from the house.

Stunning location and gorgeous house. It was a lovely stay! My family and I really enjoyed it. However, the description does state that there’s a steep backdrop from the patio, so why not have fencing up?
We had problems with hot taps in two bathrooms, as they didn’t switch off properly, and I reported this to Argyll self catering holidays, as well as the owner. However, I never got a response from neither of them, which was disappointing!

What a find this place was. Absolutely stunning home with stunning views. Everything you could possibly need and the BBQ was a fantastic bonus. Despite the cold weather, we were blessed with blue skies and were able to enjoy a lovely BBQ and cold water swim. House was spotless. Pool table was fantastic. Thank you for such a wonderful weekend.

This house sits magnificently on the beach, so close to the water. Every bedroom window and all the living areas look out onto the water, for a relaxing ambience. The house is comfortable, well equipped and the lay out means you can always find a quiet space, The house and location offers something for everyone. We managed to go Paddle boarding, forest and coast walking, appreciate a shinty match, and a park and fairy trail for the wee ones to enjoy. We also watched dolphins and an otter. It’s a house to appreciate spending time with family and at the same time appreciating what nature offers you.

Spent a delightful few days with adult children and their partners in this perfect spot.

It certainly lived up to our expectations - a really superior 'cottage' with a location on the water front that is impossible to beat.

Two of our younger members actually went in swimming.

Thanks for a great time.

The house was incredible, I've never stayed anywhere like it. The kitchen had all the appliances you could need and plenty of dishware.
The beds and bedding were super comfortable and the showers and bath were great.
Outdoor area was fantastic even in February, and we managed to get a dip in the water.

What an amazing place and property, we were a family of 6 and honestly we did not get in the way of each other at all.
There were a couple of issues with no heating on when we arrived, so the house was freezing, no bin bags for rubbish, someone else's food remains in the cupboards, the fireplace had not been cleaned out of ashes. One of the main issues was floor cleaning was poor, there was old pasta under the sofa and dining table but my husband found the vacuum cleaner and we got the worst of it up.
BUT, this does not take away from the fact that this property is outstanding. the Area is stunning and the people around in the village very welcoming. We had a very relaxing time and would definitely stay here again. Don't let the small issues above put you off, it certainly hasn't put us off wanting to return, but if there are issues, they need raising, can't only have the good reviews without being honest can you !

I can’t recommend this highly enough, the accommodation was spot on, comfortable and well equipped, amazing views and lots of car park space - so great if you are all travelling from different locations. Couple of lamps needed new lightbulbs but that was a minor issue. Loved the private beach - we went wild swimming everyday (would recommend swim shoes though!)

Spent a lovely week in house. Very comfortable in an awesome location. Weather was great so spent most of time outside but with 3 social areas inside there was plenty of space if the weather had not been as good. House was well equipped and laundry room was a real bonus.

From reading previous reviews, we took some camping chairs for outside lounging in the sun.

Perfect property and location for family holiday and would thoroughly recommend. Will definitely return.

Lovely house right on the beach had a great time on the water, great outdoor space, comfy and clean with modern interior. Only downside was BBQ wasn’t available during our visit we would’ve loved sitting outside cooking in the Gazebo area. Apart from that would definitely recommend to friends and family
Thanks again

The location of Taigh na Mara is superb, with beautiful natural scenery all around and it is so lovely and peaceful.
The accommodation is wonderful , we felt relaxed as soon as we entered the house and ready to enjoy our stay.
There are lovely walks in the area and many scenic places to visit..We love Otter Ferry, Portavadie, Tarbert, the Ardlamont estate & Tighnabruich itself. But there are many more beautiful spots to discover.

The house has panoramic views up and down the Kyles which can be enjoyed whatever the weather.
Several of our party swam from the rocks in front of the house.
The house is generously proportioned and we found everything we needed to self cater for a long weekend.
Highly recommended.

The location of the house and facilities within make it an excellent choice for a large family group. We have already rebooked for next year !

The only aspect that lets the property down a bit is the condition of some of the furnishings in the lounge / dining room and the entrance hallway where the carpetting is bit past its best and is badly (not) fitted in some places. The bedrooms and bathrooms by contrast are fine.

Also some of the 'information' notes around the house are rather out of date.....needs a bit of a sort out.

Hope this feedback is seen as constructive.

Booked the house for its location and size for our group of 4 couples who were celebrating significant birthdays.
Location is amazing and the views are spectacular, particularly from the conservatory and deck. The property layout is arranged to take advantage of the outlook.
All rooms are simply furnished and each has a sea view.
The kitchen/ large conservatory area was the most used by our group, followed by the large dining room where we enjoyed having the fire on in the evenings.
We had a wonderful weekend and would recommend the house for groups of family, or friends!

Friends and I enjoyed a great long weekend at the Taigh Na Mara. Located on the water with stunning views over the Loch, the house was very spacious and there was plenty to keep us occupied. The outdoor patio area and beach area was absolutely ideal, especially with the great weather we had. If I was nitpicking, the only slight downfall was the interior in some bedrooms were slightly dated. Would definitely recommend to others, fantastic value for money.

An absolute gem of a property beautifully located on the shore at Kames.

Our stay was wonderful. We needed a large house for my extended family and the gentleman at Argyll Self catering Holidays could not have been more helpful on the telephone. The 5 double bedrooms with 4 bathrooms are all nicely furnished and very warm, the laundry is great, and the reception rooms with a sun lounge off the kitchen are very relaxing and spacious. The property is quirky with the entrance from a large level parking area being at first floor level into the games room and some bedrooms, the rest of the accommodation being downstairs. That makes it fun in the first place.

The terraced garden is not suitable for young children i.e. 4 year old grandchildren, but access to it can be prevented so it is not a problem and adults can take little ones down the stone steps to the pebble beach. In the house you do need to tuck all the ornaments away from little fingers and I hope we put everything back in the right place!

The well stocked village shop, a Post Office with small cafe and the pub are only a few minutes walk away and much use was made of them. There is a decent children's playground and Tignabruich with more shops is only a mile away and perfectly walkable if you don't want to drive.

We loved it.

This rates as the best house we have stayed in and there have been a few over the years. A lot of thought has gone into the layout so 10 people can stay without it feeling crowded. We were stunned by the views over the loch from the living room, bedrooms and the patio /decking area. The kitchen was well equipped, the beds gave an excellent night's sleep and the bathrooms were luxurious. We made use of the bbq and some of us had a game of pool. Only a 10 min stroll to Kames Hotel was a benefit also. Can't wait to return.

We have all stayed in lovely holiday accommodation over the years but I can safely say we all felt this was the best one ever for space, room layouts and the outstanding view. The house has beautiful views over the water from all 3 living rooms and bedrooms. There is ample space for 3 generations to spread out & enjoy doing their own thing but the rooms are also big enough for you all to get together in all the living rooms. There are other houses around but the house and garden is designed so well that you cannot see or hear anyone else although you may occasionally hear someone on the yachts.
There are 4 areas to the garden, 3 when the tides in, so you can be out in the glorious sunshine (25 - 30 degrees all week I kid you not!) and not see the rest of the family also outside. The BBQ area is ideal, the rock pools and clambering is great fun & the decking perfect for sunbathing. Care does need to be taken near the edges and the rocks but that's just common sense.
If you like wildlife we saw... porpoise on various occasions; an otter on 3 separate occasions but very early & late in the day; a seal while I was sat out having my breakfast ( I lifted my spoon & he was just there in front of me); A pair of oyster catches that go between the wall and the beach depending when the tide is in; 2 swans and gannits diving for fish along with the odd seagull, heron, jackdaws and lots of jelly fish etc
There is ample parking for lots of cars, although I wouldn't want to bring an expensive car with low ground clearance on the little lane down.
We highly recommend The Little Kitchen & post office, go lots but especially on your last day for breakfast so you can clean down the night before then. We also had good meals at The Kames hotel, The Colintraive Inn and the Botanist.

House needs a makeover both inside and out! Needs a clear out of personal items. Old sauce bottles in fridge. Old cereal boxes in kitchen cupboards. Was disappointing as it looks good on website
Location and views excellent.
Outside dangerous for young children.
Although it sleeps 10 it was not value for money at the price

Taigh na mara was everything we expected. Our family of 10 were more than happy with the location on the shoreline and the added attraction of the pool table kept us all away from phones, ipads etc. As a family we have visited many houses over the recent years and can say honestly this was the best! Teenagers are always the best critics.

Lovely house in the most beautiful location. We were blessed with good weather.

Kitchen had everything you would need by way of utensils and cooking facilities.

Pool table and telescope an added bonus.

I might modify the description of luxury linen and towels as though almost all beds had lovely dorma bedding, mine unfortunately had dark brown polycotton well worn Next bedding.
The towels were white towels with odd marks on them, perhaps a boil wash to refresh them would be a good idea.

These are just minor issues on an otherwise fabulous self catering property

Plenty of good eating places around.

Wow! A fantastic house in a fantastic location! My now husband and I had an amazing 4 night stay here with both our families and had a lovely intimate wedding in the beautiful conservatory room which has the most amazing view. The garden was excellent for photos and spending the rest of the day relaxing and celebrating in. Our 5 year old nephew loved the pond and fishing from the private beach. Just remeber to bring your midge repellent in the summer....you definitely need it! The kitchen was big, bright and sufficient for a chef to prepare canapes and a four course meal for 10 people and the dining room table was spacious and more than comfortably seated us all. We loved every minute of our stay! The views are amazing from the garden and every bedroom. The house exceeded our expectations and was bigger and nicer in real life than in the photos on the website. It had everything we needed and is perfect for a family getaway or small celebration like ours. We have absolutely no complaints at all as we loved the house and our stay but feedback we would give to make it even better is that perhaps the sofas in the lounge and the lounge itself could do with a bit of updating. Also, when we came to put our food shopping away, the fridge/freezer was a great size for cold food but we struggled with all our dry food as every cupboard in the kitchen had food and other stuff in them already. We ended up having to put it all in the utility to room, at the opposite end of the house, to get it out the way. The final thing is that wee left our wee pooch at home as the website said no pets so we thought it was a bit strange to have a dog bed lying out in the hall. As I say though....these things did not negatively effect our stay at all....just some honest feedback. We would recommend staying here to everyone and hope to be back ourselves for another stay soon.

Lovely spacious house in stunning location.

Taigh Na Mara is a lovely 5 bedroom house in stunning location at Kames, Argyll. Well appointed, sleeps 10. Spacious house so we didn't feel cramped at all.
Ratio of 4 bathrooms to 5 bedrooms worked well for us. Well equipped kitchen. Local grocery shopping 5 minute walk away.
Beware of steep drop from both outside sitting areas- glass or metal balustrades would be ideal. Increasing safety without interrupting the fabulous views

Our whole extended family had an amazing time at this house. Its in a great location (but a sign on the entrance to the property as you come down the lane would help). In the house there is everything that's needed (more glasses would help). There was some old food / herbs etc which were in the cupboards - these need to be removed for guests. It would help though if they could say what was available like herbs etc to save people buying new things and the not using them. But all in great, and we want to come back.

Fantastic peacefu and tranquil l location right beside sea with panoramic views of Bute. House was well equipped and comfortable great for family occasion. Decking area and conservatory especially attractive in summer months.
Wouldn't hesitate to recommend and hopefully will return.

A group (10) of us stayed at Taigh na Mara last weekend for my husbands 30th. The house is huge (bigger than it looks in the pictures) and well kitted out with everything we needed for a weekend away. It's a short walk to the local pub and the surrounding areas are stunning. We will definitely be back.

Lovely long weekend break. Great accommodation. Children loved the shore. Plenty space and things to do for young and old. Only disadvantage was no outside and entrance light.

Taigh na Mara won't disappoint, it is in a fantastic location, walking distance into Tighnabruaich (15/20mins). Right on the shore, the outlook from all of the rooms over the water is fantastic. My only criticism is that the dining room lounge could do with updating, and the directions are terrible as there's no sign on the approach road indicating where to turn off for the property. The Kames Hotel, 5mins walk from house, serves a high standard of food (a torch required walking the long drive from the house at night). We were out of season so a lot of the cafes etc were closed but one cafe, The Kyles Cafe in Tighnabruaich is open at the weekends and serves great breakfasts (all day) and lunches. High standard rental property and location.

We loved it. If you're after a 'get-away-from-it-all' stay for a large group, then you'll struggle to beat Taigh na Mara. The property sits in amongst a group of around 6 others between the 2 piers in Kames, but isn't overlooked at all and is VERY quiet.

Plenty of space and equipment for 10 people - the Dining table comfortably sits 10. We went as 2 families and it never felt that we were in each other's way at any point - there were plenty of rooms and outside spaces for people to be away by themselves if they wanted to be.

Great to have the private beach - we brought kayaks and, apart from a couple of hours either side of high tide, were able to launch and land directly from the beach.

Good eating out (sea-food and locally sourced produce) at Botanica in Tighnabruaich - a 20 minute walk/5 minute drive away.

Our group of 9 stayed for 3 nights coming from as far as Aberdeen and London to enjoy a great family get together. Taigh na Mara was a perfect size to accomodate us all comfortably with the added bonus of its fabulous location. We were fortunate with the weather and grabbed the chance to eat al fresco in blazing sunshine on our last day on the lower of the two tier decks. We were all fascinated with the entertainment supplied by the Coastguard helicopter training its crew around the Kyles of Bute.

I would like to add a few hopefully worthy points. The house is off the beaten track and could definitely do with some signage as you approach the single private road and more than anything a sign with the house name on the gate is essential. We weren't familiar with the front appearance of the house as it doesn't feature on photographs. Therefore it caused confusion if it was Taigh na Mara. Once in it would have been more welcoming had the row of pegs not been filled with owners/ heavy working jackets taking up all the space and leading us to think other occupants were still residing. Our party arrived at various times with two in particular losing their way. After failing to get through to myself through lack of phone signal in the house they called the letting agency who could only give the directions we already had. As far as we could see the house isn't the last one on the private road.

Just one other point. One other guest came along on the pretext she would be able to carry out some of her work duties which relies on a strong wifi connection and phone signal. This proved difficult.. Perhaps a note of potential hotspots in the house would help.
