Trevenek is a detached single storey cottage, situated in the little village of Slockavullin in the historic Kilmartin Glen, Argyll, an area of outstanding archaeological importance and one of Scotland’s richest prehistoric landscapes.

The cottage was fine. Comfy, clean and well located. Track a bit bumpy but we were warned about this. We had beautiful weather which made all the difference to our experience.

We really enjoyed our stay in Trevenek cottage. The weather was really rainy the whole weekend so we spent more time inside the cottage than originally planned - so I'm pleased to say that it a lovely cosy place to stay. The wood burning fire was much appreciated and the kitchen is really well supplied with everything you could need. The position of the cottage is great for anyone interested in seeing all the amazing archeology sites in Kilmartin Glen and it's also really well placed for visits to the Nature Reserves at Taynish, Knapdale and Moine Mhor and for walks along the coast or the Crinnan canal.

Best thing about this cottage is the location, being able to walk through the bluebells in the woods to Kilmartin Glen. kitchen very well equipped, garden very small and not secure for dogs. Inside the house is quite dark, being built into the hillside

We spent 5 days at Trevenek and had the best time. Clean, well-equipped and in a beautiful, quiet location, it was perfect. It is in easy walking distance to many of the incredible archaeologic sites in Kilmartin glen and situated in a gorgeous hamlet. The cottage has everything you need for; a well-equipped kitchen, really comfy beds and a range of books/DVDs for relaxing in the evening. I loved sitting out in the garden in the evening sunshine and just enjoying the birdsong.

The only down side to our trip was that we had asked for the beds to be split in to a twin room for our children, unfortunately this was not done and they had to share a double bed. However the cottage is excellent value for money and we would book again

Iain replied 222 days ago
Thank you for taking the time to write your review and your kind words. We are sorry your request to change the double bed into 2 singles was missed. Your request was relayed to the owners and mis-communication has happened with housekeeping not altering the bed set-up. We wish you had contacted us at the beginning of your stay and this could have been easily rectified. Great to hear you would book again and give us a second chance.

An attractive perfectly proportioned cottage with a spacious and well equipped kitchen, perfect for gathering around the table at the end of a day for a meal , drinks , a board game and reflecting on the lovely places we visited, and plan to visit.
The sitting room was cosy and warm with books to borrow and DVD,s to watch. Plus lots of information on places to visit etc.
The bedrooms and bathroom were a good size and ,again ,had everything required for comfortable week away from home.

Excellent facilities.

The cottage met our needs and location for sorting out the boat we have bought nearby. However a couple of points that should be addressed are the shower, which needs replacing couldn’t use as no pressure and couldn’t regulate temperature, also the sofa which has a board under the cushions and a throw over, so not comfortable. Water temperature was tepid so had to boost. Hope this helps. Thank you.

No issues , well eqipped and comfortable

Steep and slippery back garden not suitable for most people
But you can sit out the front

We had a 3 hour power cut in the evening
So provison of a torch and candles in case of this would have been usueful

Despite not so great weather, we had a wonderful stay at Trevenek. It is a beautiful, very well appointed and sparklingly clean cottage, tucked away in Slockavulin yet close to all of the places we wanted to visit.
It was fantastic to have cosy evenings with the log burner on after a day exploring in the rain. Highly recommend - we’ll be back.

The cottage was warm and comfortable with all the facilities required. The water pressure is too low for a shower but there was plenty of hot water for a bath. The small garden was a sheltered sun trap in the afternoon. The cottage is well located, within 30 minutes walk of Kilmartin and all the ancient monuments. It was also an easy walk to Moine Mhor nature reserve and Carnasserie Castle. There is a lot to do and see within a 30 minute drive. Lochgilphead has a good range of shops. We enjoyed our week in Argyll.

I had a lovely holiday in Kilmartin Glen, shame about the weather. However, it's Scotland so you have to get on with it! I have a couple of niggles with the cottage ... the rubber bath mat needs replaced, it's brown and slimy on the underside, I tried unsuccessfully to clean it. The vax vacuum needs a bit of love, the head falls off the handle and the handle comes to pieces during use and the bag/filters need replaced, most frustrating (and whiffy!). As I said, just niggles and easily sorted. I would recommend to others, with a caveat about the access road.

Super little cottage, well maintained with everything we could need. Lots of extras included like tea and coffee, toilet and kitchen rolls, cleaning products. Quiet location with excellent walks for the dog, short drive or 30min walk from Kilmartin. Pub served excellent food and is dog friendly too. We used the cottage as a base to explore Argyll and the Islands, exceptionally beautiful area, we will be returning to explore more.

Trevenek cottage is in the most idyllic spot, perfect for exploring the beautiful area. The cottage was very well equipped and very comfortable, the bed was lovely and ensured a good night's sleep after a day exploring. The only minor criticism we had was that the shower was a bit pathetic, the water pressure is obviously very low resulting in a trickle of water, although lovely and warm!

Thank you for taking the time to write your review, much appreciated. We feel the cost of the cottage was great value for money at just over £62 per night, staying 7 nights in May. The cottage sleeps 4 persons. The bed linen, towels, Wi-Fi, heating, electricity, insurance and full working kitchen are all included in the price. Not forgetting the additional expense of being very rural. Kind regards

This would be a perfect hire if it was next to an industrial estate, very cosy with a layout that seems to expand the real size. The fact that it is perfectly positioned in Kilmartin Glen between the Nether Largie field and the Ballymeanoch field with their famous prehistoric cairns, standing stones and petroglyphs just makes it amazing. To get to the Temple Wood you turn left, down a footpath and it's there down below. Great position for exploring one of the richest areas in the highlands and some good books on prehistory to boot. The final bit of road may not be appreciated by low vintage cars.

The property was very comfortably warm, which was welcome on our winter weekend break! The beds were comfortable and the decor was clean and fresh. The wee log burner was welcome, but a wee bit tricky to manage with not enough coal to bolster the wood. There was WiFi which struggled a wee bit in our day and age of posting to Instagram + Facebook etc, but that’s hardly a downside - more of a benefit! Slockavullin is a great wee village right in the midst of the Glen - quite magical. Coming from a town, we were in awe of the silence and the birdsong there. It was our second visit and so we knew what we were in for :)

Downsides: Could benefit from a kitchen and bathroom refresh - though both were just adequate. The shower was barely strong enough to wet your hair, though and I’d been hoping that would have been addressed since our last visit. Some more care and attention to kitchen equipment as well - quite random and charity shop like. The First Aid kit (which we unfortunately had to use) was quite disgraceful, though - mouldy, unsanitary bandages, really needs looking at.

Iain Fleming, property manager replied more than 1 year ago
Dear Julie, Many thanks for reviewing Trevenek. We’re glad you enjoyed your second visit but are sorry about the first aid kit. We were unaware of the problem which we take very seriously (and will of course replace the kit and keep a check on it more regularly). We do very much appreciate your taking the trouble to alert us to this. Kind regards Morven (owner)

Trevenek cottage was great for us - perfect location to explore Kilmartin Valley. There was a very small problem when we arrived and it was sorted perfectly by the housekeeper / owners, they are both lovely!! The cottage decor is a little dated, but it added to the charm. The only negative is the shower, which has very little pressure. Thank you for letting us stay at Trevenek!

With a family of 4 persons we visited Trevenek and enjoyed our stay very much. The cottage is spacious with large a livingroom and kitchen. The cosy kitchen is clean and well equipped with facilities and cookware so we could prepare our dinners. The cottage let us feel very comfortable. The small village (only some houses) is very nice and absolutly quiet, but without any shop or bar. The next supermarket is at Lochgilphead about 8 miles. Contact to the host was very easy und answers came promptly.
Thank you very much - we would like to come back again.

Trevenek Cottage was far better than we expected and we would highly recommend it. It is very well appointed and all furniture and fittings are of excellent quality, with thoughtful attention to detail. The cottage is surprisingly large and well laid out, especially the wonderful kitchen. Plenty of books, DVDs and games are provided for those days when the weather is wet and the log burning stove is lit to provide a warm and welcoming retreat. The area around the cottage is stunning and full of interest - from historic Kilmartin Glen to the Crinan Canal to the excellent Yacht Centre at Ardfern. The track to the cottage is a little rough but no problem at all for any type of car. Overall an absolute delight, and we hope to return again for a longer stay.

I've stayed in dozens of self catering places over the years and I reckon Trevenek Cottage is definitely one of the best. Spotlessly clean, well decorated and very comfortable. We were there in March so it was pretty cold outside, especially at night, but the cottage was warm and cosy throughout. The kitchen is well kitted out and has a good size dining table and the wi-fi connection worked perfectly.

The surrounding countryside is stunning and steeped in history. Loads of walks around Kilmartin Glen and Crinan Canal - info and maps in the Cottage.

Overall I was very impressed with the Cottage and the area and will certainly be back.

Our 3 nights, in November, were very comfortable in the well appointed & fabulously situated Trevenek Cottage.
In the quiet hamlet of Slogavullin, Trevenek Cottage is surrounded by visual, ancient history. It's the ideal location for walking around the historic Kilmartin Glen and exploring the beautiful Argyll coast.
We loved our time there and will definitely be returning in the longer days of Spring when you can take off and walk for miles!

Just had a weekend break at trevenek cottage . We used cottage as a base to explore more of kilmartin area and it was perfect location for that. Well equipped house but although new heaters been installed the main bedroom really does need work done to remove the really off putting mouldy smell as was very uncomfortable for sleeping , helped by having all windows open also broken moldy blind on door hidden behind curtain really needs ditched!

The owner replied more than 1 year ago
Thank you for taking the time to write your review. We are very disappointed that you had experienced a musty smell in the bedroom. We stay in the property fairly often and this has never been an issue. We can only surmise the heavy rain and the cottage being vacant for a week or so before your arrival has contributed to this. We have asked a local building company to check for leaks and any apparent signs of mould. they have been asked to rectify straight away. We have also asked housekeeping to keep the house aired and to report any smells. We have also asked the housekeeper to remove the blind from the door. We take great pride in our holiday rental cottage and hope you will return in the future to visit again. As a good will gesture would like to offer you a discount on a return visit. Kind regards Morven
