Rowan Tree Lodge is a popular favourite at Clachaig Chalets and Lodges.

It combines purpose built holiday accommodation for five guests along with a great location close to all the facilities of the inn.

The location was ideal for tackling the hills in Glencoe. We found the chalet cosy and perfectly suited to our needs. The kitchen was very well equipped, The signal for the mobile phones was intermittent. The entrance drying room was just great! It was so good to get our boots and clothing dry overnight.

Another wonderful holiday in the Highlands.

We have been coming to the Clachaig chalets every year for many years. It never disappoints. The chalets are comfortable, well equipped and the location beautiful. It is a great place to visit locally and further afield. Numerous walks and places to visit. Staff are always very helpful and accommodating. My happy place. See you next year.

Stayed for a week and used as a base to explore the surrounding areas , the lodge is homely and comfortable and located in the mist peaceful part but still just a short stroll to the inn . Ate at the inn and self catered , would definitely recommend a stay here

The fact that this was the latest in around 20 visits to Clachaig Inn chalets indicates how much I think of the accomodation
and service provided. Always with a friendly smile the staff are outstanding. Glen Coe is one of the most stunning locations to visit and to be able to stay in the heart of it is even better. Cannot wait to visit again soon.

Roof leaking on arrival but promptly dealt with.
Lots of hanging cobwebs, in corners, above shower, etc.
Vacuum cleaner very smelly (wet dog!) when used.
Toaster pop up paddle broken - difficult to retrieve toast.

Minor issues, otherwise friendly helpful staff and another great fun Hogmanay. See you next year if not before.

Love being at the Clachaig, the chalet is in a perfect location and has everything you need for your stay, although we did think the washing machine was going to take off, but it does the job. We are always made to feel very welcome by all the staff and always a lovely atmosphere, can’t wait to be back.

Nowhere like Glencoe and Clachaig. Staff never fail to disappoint, always welcoming, friendly , especially to our four legged companion. Even when you get one month’s rain in one day!

Thank you once again!

My wife and I spent 3 days in Glencoe area doing some hiking and exploring. The Clachaig Inn was a perfect location for that. It has its own charm and personality. We stayed in the Rowan Chalet, a 3 bedroom unit with spacious living room and kitchen that is fully equipped. Views of the forest from our unit. Rowan has that old mountain cabin vibe with wood paneling and comfortable beds, couches and chairs. Sipping a cup of tea, hearing the stream and rain outside, was perfect.

The Boot Bar was truly a highlight! We were looking for a great Scottish pub experience and you won't be disappointed. We happened to be there on a Sunday night and some local musicians came in for a Scottish jam session. They had a wood stove going burning real wood, the guests and staff very friendly. What more could we want?!

The location was breathtaking with the high peaks rising out the backdoor.

Erg mooie plek midden in de vallei.
Alles is in de buurt aanwezig.

Voor mensen langer dan 180 zijn de bedden aan de korte kant. Vraag hier eventueel na maar dat was ook het enige.

Another great week at Clachaig Inn. Rowan Lodge is in excellent condition, especially refurbished kitchen. Service provided was first rate and very welcoming, especially from the lovely Anne-Marie. I've lost count of the number of times I've stayed but it is certainly between 15 and 20 times, with 3 more visits booked for this year. I keep coming back because of the stunning beauty of the Highlands and also because the accommodation is second to none. Thank you.

i have stayed at the Clachaig before but this was our first time in one of the chalets. Rowan is very cosy once you figure out the fire and heating. Very weatherproof too which was good as the rain was beating down some nights. Good sized fridge and freezer, washer large selection of tea, coffee and biscuits there on our arrival. The sofas could do with an upgrade, they were sinking in some areas and weren't very comfortable, as could some of the mattresses. The addition of an oven tray and clothes airer would be useful but otherwise it is well equipped.
Looking at other reviews we too had the smell in the bathrooms which we couldnt get rid of but it stayed inbthe bathrooms and didnt travel. Other than that we had a great week and I would book again.

My brother and I targeted Corbetts. Rowan Lodge was an excellent base. Early alarm call, self catering breakfast, return to good shower - though door leak needs sorting - comfortable and roomy for planning the following day, and the pub to go to afterwards. All good!

Having stayed many times here in the past, my sister and I booked for a 7 night stay following two and a half years with no holidays like so many other people. We were upset to see the outside state of the Clachaig - looked very sad. Rowan Tree Lodge was even worse. When opening the main bathroom door the smell was unbelievable - it did actually smell like drains, however we were told by reception, not to worry they know about the smell and it isn't the drains, they told us it was gas. There was an empty air freshener in the bathroom which made us suspicious. When someone came to the Lodge to `reassure' us he told us that they had already had it checked out and everything was safe and basically you just have to put up with the smell - they couldn't get anymore air fresheners for the bathroom until Tuesday (it was Saturday then !). We had also queried the workings of the gas fire in the main lounge as we had been cold on the Friday night of our arrival. The ignition switch on the fire, along with the top of the fire itself was melted, this meant that you couldn't seen any numbers on the switch and the vague instruction piece of paper on top of the fire told you to look for number 1. We did eventually manage to light this fire but by the time it ignited there was obviously quite a bit of gas in its workings because it sounded like a small explosion. We turned the fire off. We were told they knew about the fire, it was safe to use but that the switch shouldn't really be like that. We were shown how to light it, but the guy said it was old like the rest of the lodge and a bit worn out. We did not use it again. Both of the settees were shabby and certainly passed their best, the seats had gone and one of the settees had a large hole in. The cooker extraction fan was filthy/disgusting. The windows in the lodge and the patio doors were difficult to open and close. On the Monday and Tuesday there were very gusty winds the whole time and we had to keep some curtains and the patio door curtains closed to try to keep out the draughts, the curtains on the patio doors were blowing into the room rather dramatically. The mattresses in the main bedroom and twin bedded room definitely need to be replaced. On the plus side the bathroom towels were soft and fluffy and the duvet covers/sheets were of a good quality.
As a result of everything mentioned above, but primarily because of the stink in the bathroom causing nausea we decided to check out on the Wednesday morning instead of Friday. Anne Marie at reception was extremely upset for us.
This is all very sad as the Clachaig is in such a fantastic location, and as said earlier we were returning because in the past it has always been great, but we are afraid that until things are updated and improve we will not be returning.

As always everything was first class..

Thanks to everyone at Clachaig Inn for another wonderful holiday. Special thanks to Anne-Marie who was so helpful and welcoming. Rowan Lodge was great, as always. But we did find that the en suite toilet was broken when we arrived. No problem though and inevitably things wear out over the years of much use. Over the years I've recommended Clachaig Inn to many friends and relatives and will continue to do so.

Never fails to impress, it really did feel as if things were slowly coming back to normal.
Friendly staff, good food, location is out of this world
The only one wee thing, no toiletries at all? This caught me out . I totally understand restrictions, but to include washing up liquid, but no bottled toiletries?
Might be an idea to give other guests the heads up for this.
Would definitely not stop me from coming back though, would do that today if I could

Overall a very pleasant stay with the chalet presented in generally clean and well-maintained condition. Ample equipment provided albeit some of the cooking utensils, especially the frying pans! are in a worn state and would warrant replacement.

Only issue which marred the stay somewhat, was the smell from the drains in the main bathroom which was reported and we were informed it was an ongoing problem with the bathroom vent.
On further investigation however (professional plumber speaking here!) I would advise that the problem is associated with a lack of a vent or Air Admittance Valve (AAV) on the main bathroom drain system. When the WC is flushed it effectively "sucks" the water from the waste traps in the washbasin and bath. The water seal in these traps is then lost allowing foul air from the drains to enter the property resulting in the smell. Fitting a vent leg or AAV on the main drain from the WC or "syphon-breaker" traps on the wash basin and bath would resolve this problem. Would recommend getting this fixed before the heat of the summer.

All said however would certainly recommend a stay at the chalets where you are close to, and well able to sample, the hospitality and great service in the Clachaig itself. Have already reserved again for next year!

Location excellent for brother and self | staff very helpful and personable | great atmosphere in Boots Bar but Fish & Chips was extremely poor - fish overcooked? - most enjoyable menu item was haggis, neeps and tatties in gravy |

WIFI unreliable, needs upgrade | TV signal similarly unreliable; needs upgrade |

Brother reported the mattress of one of the single beds to be uncomfortable; needs replacement | the double mattress was comfortable | the other mattresses need testing / replacing if appropriate

Chalet ideal for our purpose: used two of three bedrooms + two bathrooms | Drying area welcome but lacks ventilation: simple vent through outside door perhaps? | Living, dining kitchen area a decent size and convivial | Evidence electrics having been upgraded ... all good | Evidence plumbing having been upgraded ... all good | Suggest next upgrade should be fittings to all windows and doors by good joiner and to include replacement of relevant woodwork |

Rowan Tree Lodge had the basics that you need and is in an absolutely fantastic location behind the excellent Clachaig Inn, Glencoe. The lodge however is very dated and in need of a good clean, which is surprising under the current pandemic and considering that we couldn't take it over till late afternoon. It appeared that the surfaces which are touched had been cleaned, at the expense of missing the cobwebs in all of the rooms. I had to remove the webs and the 4 spiders from each of the corners of the twin bedroom which my daughter was in before she would sleep in it. The blind in the kitchen area was covered in dead midges and the windows need to be cleaned. The hoover provided also needs to be cleaned, as it made the lodge smell as soon as it was turned on. It was a pity since we have previously stayed in one of the other lodges a few years ago and had no complaints at all. We still had a great holiday due to the location and weather but coming back to the accommodation each day shouldn't be such a let down. I would definitely stay at the Clachaig again, just not in this lodge until it has been updated.

Absolutely stunning location, ordered a beer received a lager ? Asked girl to change it and still got changed for beer , got 4 meals 2 came with burnt chips , girl just walked away didn't bother, 1st night great start . Very bad smell from main bathroom (dampness). I'm glad we had an onsuit as I have COPD. Double mattress needs changing as it's like a banana, the 2x2 setters are absolutely knackered you really fall straight back and down on them, and they could they definitely need a wash, we had high hopes for our holiday there as we love going to Glencoe regularly but unfortunately disappointed this time.i also asked 3 members of staff to meet a particular lady iwas talking to on the phone and she sounded excellent, but every time I asked for her they said she was off or unavailable,I just wanted to say high and introduce myself, Hi Ann-Marie, I genuinely wish I could give top marks but genuinely can't.

A wonderful stay ,

Rowan tree lodge was wonderful. linen and lodge were spotless . views were marvelous . Staff courteous and knowledgeable. The receptionists went out of their way to be helpful. On day 1 we reported a few minor faults within the lodge ( extractor fan in onsuite not working and 2 vanity light + main lamp in lounge not working ).sadly still not working when we left a week later . Would we return OH YES !!.

A wonderfully relaxing break. Incredible value for money, we were provided with everything we needed.
The staff were excellent and made us feel very welcome as well as extremely safe in the present environment. The facilities of the lodge are superb and the location is perfect for the "get away from it all" break that we needed. Will definitely be back, hopefully in the not too distant future when we can bring other members of the family too.
Thanks to everyone at Clachaig, first class.

2020 has been tough for everyone. This was our only break this year and we couldn’t have chosen a better way to forget what was going on in the world. The location is serene and inspiring. The air is refreshing and invigorating. The accommodation is comfortable and caters for all your needs for a week experiencing the surrounding area. Even with the obvious restrictions due to Covid the pub was warm and welcoming with young, engaging, and friendly staff doing a great job under very difficult circumstances. Well done on making our stay all that we needed.

We chose this lodge for the location and views; we have stayed in the Clachaig Inn several times and the lodge was a great choice for a flexible holiday with some self catering but close access to the bar! The Clachaig has so much fantastic walking and scenery all around it, I have no doubt we will be back.

This was our 3rd stay at Rowan Tree Lodge, our first in summer, and first under Covid-19 protocols, but it was magnificent as usual. Yes you could find cheaper log cabins, but you pay a bit extra for the incredible setting of Glencoe, surrounded by mountains and only 1 minute walk from the best pub in Scotland. The only very minor niggle was that the seal on the en suite shower door was broken, so it leaked, otherwise everything was as it always is, excellent.

The chalet is in a superb position that has wonderful views of the surrounding area. It is well designed and provides spacious accommodation for up to 5 people. Rowan Chalet has everything you need for a long stay including a washing machine and dishwasher. The beds are very comfortable and having an ensuite for the double bedroom is an extra bonus. There is good parking for all of the chalets and it is only a short walk to the main building.
A great stay once again.

Another lovely winter stay in our favourite mountain lodge . The location is excellent and the Rowan lodge is lovely, homely , pure relax. The staff at the Clachaig is super friendly , they always do whatever they can to make us welcome. They also managed to accommodate our special food orders !!!
On a very minor negative point we only rated the conditions "ok" because the ovens do not work properly (the temperature setting doesnt work and they become too hot very quicky , consider replacement ? ) plus we are not fans of electric showers but , well, I guess there is nothing to do for this considering the remote location. Overall thanks again for a lovely stay !!!! We left 1 day ago and we already miss so much the place !!! We talk enthusiastically about this place to everyone, and we really hope to stay there again in the next holiday !!!

Very windy, wet, low cloud and mist limited our hill walking. But rivers and waterfalls in spate, and autumn colours were spectacular. Glen Nevis Steall falls and White tailed sea eagles aplenty around Strontian on Ardnamurchan are within easy distance of Clachaig. A little confusion in the bar( in preparation for Octoberfest?) meant little choice of beer during our stay. It was good on the Sat of our arrival. Maybe worth considering as there were still plenty of "ale" customers I observed seeking a better selection.
A minor point in another memorable visit, well worth our eleven hundred mile round trip! Thanks for your hospitality.

As ever a great stay at the Clachaig, all in all the lodge is very good and a great space to relax and sleep. The lodge could do with a little revamp mainly outside as it is starting to look tired. Inside, it is all clean with all the comforts needed, Food and service really good as always, a friendly relaxing place to stay.

Nice cabin with roomy lounge/diner. Bedrooms are compact but fine as a bolt hole. For our use hiking, rafting and swimming it was the perfect base and about right for the money given the location. Nice touch that it’s fully stocked with washing up liquid, tablets and loo rolls. Location is spot on. You really are right in the middle of the mountains which surround the property on all sides and you can hike straight out the front door to a Monroe. The river nearby was great for the kids to swim in too. The views from the terrace are amazing. Only thing the cabin was really missing was a clothes airer to dry Scottish weather clothes. Pub was okay although we didn’t really use it after an very average meal and pint.

I've been going to Glencoe and the Clachaig Inn since the early 80s, and although things have changed a lot over the years it is still one of the most spectacular places on the planet. I always used to camp, but these days prefer to use a chalet, especially in winter. When you visit the Scottish Highlands you expect poor weather in February, and our week was no exception, but there is still plenty to do. The chalets are well appointed and very comfortable, so if you wanted to stay in all day it is perfectly possible. You can be self-contained in the chalet, or sample the hospitality at the Clachaig next door, we did a bit of both. The staff are always welcoming and helpful, and if there are any problems, which is rare, they will sort them out quickly. I can't recommend the Clachaig chalets highly enough, and we will definitely be back there again. The only downside is the internet service, which is almost nil, but that is not the fault of the Clachaig.

The inn right next door, great pub atmosphere and great food and very friendly staff. I thoroughly recommend them to anyone, just a little piece of heaven, oh and it snowed both times too, just a stunning place

Accommodation is fantastic and service is first class. I have now introduced Clachaig Inn to all of my family and they all say the same as me. It is like home from home. Really cannot speak highly enough of the accommodation and staff. Looking forward to visiting again next Spring.

Lovely lodge with a gorgeous view. Comfortable with everything thing you need for a great holiday. Great pub with lovely food and beer next door.
Price for the dog is very steep!

William Stewart replied more than 1 year ago
First of all thank you for your review. It seems like you enjoyed your holiday with us. I would just like to respond about the dog charge. It is a hard one to know what to reasonably charge, as obviously you get dog owners probably much like yourself who are very conscientious and take care of the property, and then you get the opposite end of the scale where you get owners allowing their dogs to go to the toilet in the property and destroy the furniture. So it is very hard to know what we will get when we have dog owners coming to stay. But after your review we will review our dog charge again. Again thank you for taking the time to leave us a review.

As soon as I knew I was headed back to Scotland, I knew I would have to book at least part of my stay at the Clachaig. This time, however, I was traveling with four other family members, so I looked into the available lodges. I was really pleased with the layout provided online and knew it'd be the appropriate space for us to use as home base while traveling around the Glencoe/Fort William area. Upon arrival, the rooms were ready to go, very clean, and the location was amazing - situated right in the middle of the mountains and sitting just up a hill from a great walking path. The rooms were a bit snug, but the living room provided plenty of space for us to stow our stuff. The entryway and drying racks around the lodge helped us keep everything dry, especially after a day of hiking in the good Scottish rain. The washing machine was extremely handy as well. The kitchen was well equipped with all the accessories we needed in our time there. The staff at Clachaig were very friendly and helpful for us during our stay, and they are a big reason I keep coming back to the area trip after trip. The only thing that would have made the stay better would be to have a link with the Clachaig restaurant, breakfast bar, and pub so that we could charge our meals and drinks to the lodge as opposed to having to pay cash each time. Other than that, we loved our time there and will no doubt be back again. Thanks for making the trip a special one!

I stayed at the Rowan Tree lodge with four friends. A good time was had by all. The only slight drawback was that the pub kitchen was obviously having some problems while we were there which necessitated a couple of trips to Fort William for a take-away! All appeared to be sorted by the end of the week. I appreciate (better than most) that cleaning up after dogs can be a problem but £70 to take a small dog to the lodge for a week is a bit over the top.

Our stay in Rowan Tree Lodge May 19 - 26, 2018 could not have been more perfect. I was pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and how well appointed the lodge was to make it a comfortable stay for our family. The food order was of the best quality and made all the difference. It's a great idea to recommend this to your guests.
When I went to the reception desk day to report the washing machine not operating, the staff member came right over and thoroughly looked at the machine and consulted the operating instructions. When she could not fix it she put in a request for the maintenance guy, who showed up the next morning. Rob not only fixed the washer but left a nice note addressing a couple of other minor concerns I had. Fast, courteous customer service.
We loved being able to walk over to the Boots bar as a family after a long day. So relaxing.
We were sad to leave and can't wait to come back.

This was the 4th time we have stayed in a lodge at the Clachaig. Overall a lovely holiday in a stunning area. The lodge had everything we needed for the week, very home from home. The menu in the Clachaig had changed since our last stay and we were disappointed with the choice and meals, although the steak meal was good. Staff were very friendly and helpful only spoilt by 1 member of staff on reception. The boiler broke down one morning so we didn't have heating or hot water, really impressed by the quick response and repair. We would love to come back again soon.

After a few problems last year, we returned to Rowan Chalet to find everything to our satisfaction. The lodge was warm, all facilities working and it made a great base for four blokes heading for the hills. Our only complaint was the lack of wi-fi and we could not get any BBC stations on the TV! In terms of location I doubt it can be beaten.

Front Desk Team replied more than 1 year ago
It's that unbeatable location that works against us when it comes to wifi and TV. BT don't want to know us when it comes to getting anything beyond dial up. We've been working on a scheme which is taking a long time to bring together. It will be expensive to run and requires some technically challenging and very time consuming planning applications to get us to the next stage. And the same goes for TV. We're reliant on relay masts 500 feet up the side of the ridge, and again there have been a number of technical issues recently as frequencies vary. But then, you didn't come to Glencoe to watch telly and answer your emails?! Hope to see you again soon.
