Elgar cottage is perfect for couples or solo guests looking for a peaceful, tranquil break. Spacious, comfortable and bright with parkland views from every room. Full kitchen and living/dining room. The enormous bedroom has a contemporary four-poster bed. Guests are welcome to relax in the walled garden, furnished glasshouse and mature parkland.

Wharton Lodge is an ideal base for touring the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean including the stunning Symonds Yat and Yat Rock. The cottage is surrounded by open countryside and with such great views there is no need to go out, so comfortable you may never want to leave.

We have stayed at these cottages several times & they never disappoint. Elgar was perfect - very clean, comfortable, decor wonderful and it had everything we needed. Gardens and grounds beautiful. Very tranquil, but plenty to do in surrounding areas. Nick, George & the WL team made us very welcome as always. A wonderful stay & we feel very chilled. Looking forward to going back

A wonderful stay at Elgar cottage. Cottage was perfect. It was very clean, comfortable & the attention to detail was exemplary. The grounds/garden are beautiful and well kept. Nicky and George were perfect hosts and nothing was too much trouble. Nicky was very informative advising loads of places to visit. Would definitely recommend and we are looking forward to going back. A perfect stay

We have stayed at Wharton Lidge Cottages for many ,many years.
It's always fabulous.
We stayed in Elgar which is fabulous, it has great views over the park land.. We watched woodpeckers on the lawn and ob the woodpecker statue.
Nicky and George ( not to forget Breeze ) are wonderful hosts. They are so attentive to your needs , as are Joyce and Lunda.
We had forgotten how lively Herefordshire is , there is so much to see and do.
Why not pay them a visit, have a wonderful day out and then sit it the walled garden and relax.
We had a wonderful time after a particularly trying year.
It was good to be back.

We have not long returned from another really lovely week at Wharton Lodge. Elgar is an imaginatively designed, light filled cottage, very comfortable and well equipped. Beautiful walled garden and extensive and interesting parkland. We have stayed in many self catering properties over the years and Elgar is the very best we have visited.
Nicky and George are wonderful hosts always on hand to offer valuable information and advice.
Our third visit and certainly not our last. We shall return soon.

We have stayed at Wharton Lodge four times now and we have never been disappointed. The little touches , like Easter eggs, Halloween decorations etc are always very welcome and so thoughtful. The hosts are always on hand to answer questions and help.

We picked Elgar cottage due to the stunning images of it on the website and its proximity to Ross on Wye and the river Severn. We came down to see the Severn Bore which was scheduled to be bigger and better than usual over three of the days during this week. We were not disappointed and the viewing locations were all within 20-25 mins drive from Elgar.

Elgar is very convenient for Ross on Wye, only 4 miles away, and right on the doorstep of the Forest of Dean. We also made it to Tintern Abbey, Symonds Yat rock and the biggest highlight was visiting the Slimbridge wetlands centre.

Elgar and the surrounding grounds are tip-top in quality and Nicky and George very welcoming hosts.

We have stayed at Wharton Lodge Cottages every year since finding this ideal retreat in the glorious Wye Valley countryside 15yrs ago.
The facilities provided in every Cottage are first class in all respects and the extensive parkland and gardens are ideal for the daily exercise of both “man and dog”. You are welcomed on arrival by Nicky, George and their team, and your every need is catered for throughout your stay.

We had a wonderful week in Elgar. The accommodation is clean , warm and welcoming. And the bed is soo comfortable There is an amazing welcome pack to get you going . As soon as I opened the door to Elgar cottage, I knew I would be comfortable and contented. The cottage is immaculate and beautifully furnished and everything you could possibly need is provided by the super friendly host and her helpful staff. I simply could not fault anything! Comfortable bed, top quality linen, well-equipped kitchen and stunning views. I appreciated the excellent village shop nearby and though it's peaceful and private, Wharton Lodge is only three miles from Ross on Wye, which is well worth a visit for its independent shops and cafes as well as its chain stores. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Our second stay in Elgar at Wharton Lodge proved just as delightful as the first time. The cottage really is a home from home!

We very much enjoyed our stay at Elgar. An ideal cottage for 2 people. Nicky and George and the 3 dogs are charming welcoming friendly hosts. The gardens at Wharton Lodge are a delight to walk around...well kept and very peaceful. We toured the area visiting several National Trust Properties plus a visit to the Morgan Motors Factory at Great Malvern so feel that Wharton Lodge Cottages are an ideal base for exploring this part of the country.

Recently returned from a wonderful week in Elgar. A beautiful, bright cottage, exquisitely decorated with incredible attention to detail. The cottage has everything you need for a relaxing stay.
The garden is beautiful, a lovely meditative space in which to walk and read. The parkland an added bonus.
Nicky and George are delightful; very friendly and helpful and offered us so much advice and information about the area. Lovely to meet the dogs too.
We have already booked our next visit.....that says it all, really.

We couldn’t have asked for more, a beautiful cottage in glorious surroundings. The area is wonderful too, lots of places to explore, or just rest and relax in the garden. We had the most wonderful week’s holiday staying in Elgar Cottage.
The accommodation and gardens are to such a high standard and with real attention to detail. Nicky, George and her team have created a very special place to stay, and were the perfect hosts.
It was our first holiday in Herefordshire and we loved it. The countryside is beautiful and we enjoyed some wonderful local walks, cycling in The Forest of Dean, Cider Tasting at Weston’s, and rowing along the river Wye.
Nicky also recommended some excellent local places to eat and we enjoyed them all, especially No.3 at Ross-on-Wye, The Moody Cow for Sunday Lunch & The Lough Pool.
We left feeling super relaxed and can’t wait to return!

We never take a holiday in August, but having fallen in love with Elgar on our first visit in January, we got carried away, broke our own rule and booked our second stay for August. Elgar proved as perfect second time round as first time.
From arrival day, the weather gods visited us with the longest hottest spell in years for 4 or 5 days. The highway gods visited us with closure of the A40 and a diversion. But in spite of these challenges we had a wonderful time. In a way we were forced to do nothing but seek out the shade and rest in the day time - which is exactly what we needed. We ate out at Nicky's recommendations (she did the bookings for us as well) of Orles Barn Saturday night and the Moody Cow for Sunday lunch. Totally spot-on choices.
The coolest corner of the garden was prepared for us with cushions and umbrella to sit out and read a book. We all gathered round the ponds in the walled garden at dusk trying to decide if some of the inert fish had expired from the heat. Walks around the peaceful parkland resting in the shade of the enormous old trees... Simple pleasures provided by the most thoughtful sensitive hosts, and the best-behaved dogs in the world - well at least in Herefordshire.
We simply could not have been cared for any better; nothing is too much trouble.
We're looking forward to the next time.

The cottage was situated in an ideal setting with lovely gardens and acres to walk in. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming and made us feel at home immediately.
There was lots of good advice and information regarding places to visit in the local area and beyond. The cottage was indeed luxurious and provided everything needed for a wonderful stay. We will definitely go back again in the future.

After staying at Wharton Lodge last October we had to make a return visit in the summer this time. This visit did not disappoint, once again we we’re made to feel so welcome. Elgar is such a lovely cottage to stay in everything you will need to make your stay the best. Nicky George and the team work so hard to make your holiday special. We spent a lot of lovely evenings sitting in the immaculate gardens. Me and hubby highly recommend Wharton Lodge as a holiday destination.

From the moment we arrived to a warm and friendly welcome from Nicky and George, we knew this was somewhere special! The cottage (Elgar) is delightful, with tasteful interior design, and very comfortable and full of thoughtful details. Having use of the beautiful walled garden was a real pleasure. We also very much appreciated our hosts’ helpful suggestions about places to visit and where to eat as we were completely new to this lovely part of the country. A highlight of our week was a visit to The Laskett Gardens which Nicky kindly arranged for us when the website said firmly it was only open to groups of six! We can’t recommend Wharton Cottages highly enough, and we very much hope to return.

We had the pleasure of staying at Elgar recently to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday. I have to say it was fabulous! Outstanding cottage in beautiful grounds. Use of the gardens too was great to enjoy the long summer evenings. Nicky & George do everything they can to make sure you have a relaxing time. We will be back!

Second time booking at Wharton Lodge and this time in Edgar. It was wonderful and worked very well for a couple looking to explore the Wye Valley and Brecon Beacons. The cottage is beautifully furnished and extremely well maintained with luxurious bedding and amenities. The gardens are a little oasis of peace and tranquility.

We are committed to finding luxury holiday cottages in parts of England and Wales that we haven’t previously explored. Elgar Cottage is by far the best we have found to date. Only 75 minutes from home and situated in beautiful and peaceful Herefordshire countryside with a superb walled garden. We will certainly return.

Excellent 5 * accommodation. Nicky and George are the perfect hosts. They have made us feel so welcome to their outstanding cosy cottages since our first visit in 2020. We have now had four visits in two of the cottages. The cottages are always cleaned by Joyce and Linda to an extremely high standard, especially with all the restrictions of extra cleaning during Covid.
The groceries, flowers and wine are very much appreciated, always welcome at the start of a holiday. The gardens are very well kept and a pleasure to walk around or sit and relax in.
If the weather is good there are some interesting walks close to the cottages. Further afield the mountain areas of Sugar Loaf, Forest of Dean and Symonds Yat are well worth a visit.
Many thanks to Nicky, George and all the team for everything you do to make it all feel like home from home. The three dogs are delightful and so well behaved.

We consider ourselves very lucky to have taken up the recommendation of friends who've stayed at Elgar several times, and regard it as a gem of a find. The experience exceeded already high expectations. Perfect hosts, luxurious cottage with no detail overlooked, idyllic surroundings. Wharton Lodge and it’s cottages is situated in a superb elevated position in glorious countryside near a number of market towns and the city of Hereford. Elgar is a perfect cottage for two and has all the facilities one could wish for. We frequently stay at Premier Cottages as we can be sure they will meet the high standard expected. Elgar, and the other cottages at Wharton Lodge, are of the very highest standard in all respects, which is why we visit every year and have done so for the last fourteen.
Guests will receive a warm welcome by the hosts, Nicky and George, and provided with all the information in respect of facilities, places of interest, restaurants etc.

We booked Elgar at Wharton Lodge Cottages for a week away to celebrate our joint birthdays.

It was just the break that we needed - but to spend it in such beautiful surroundings and in such a welcoming, cosy cottage far exceeded our expectations.

Everything was just right and Nicky and George proved to be the perfect hosts, from the warm welcome on arrival and throughout our stay.

Elgar itself is delightful. Spacious, comfortable and well equipped, we had everything that we needed to make our stay as comfortable and relaxing as possible - including a welcome hamper of essentials and treats.

The online guide provided gave us all the info that we needed regarding the cottage, plus useful tips on local restaurants, walks and attractions etc. The location is an ideal base to explore the Wye Valley and is only a short drive from the beautiful Forest of Dean. Having use of the electric vehicle charger also meant that all of our local trips were emissions free throughout our stay - a real plus.

Quite simply the best accommodation that we have ever stayed at - we loved it ♥️

Even before we arrived we found the attention to detail and their help in booking went much further than we have experienced before. The welcome on arrival was better than you could wish for, the little additional touches within the cottage set things off to such a pleasant start. The cottage was so clean and warm with such a comfortable bed we were able to really chill out and relax. We will certainly be returning in the future. From the moment we drove through the gates we knew we had made the right choice. We were welcomed by Nicky the owner who showed us around and explained all about the cottage the gardens and the surrounding area. The cottage was fabulous beautifully decorated and everything we needed for our stay. The hamper supplied had all the things you needed to start you of. Everything was spotlessly clean. The bed was so comfortable. We sat in the gardens a few times and they were immaculate such a lovely setting. We celebrated our anniversary while there and Nicky recommend a restaurant for us to spend an evening it was just excellent food was amazing. We enjoyed our stay so much booked to return next summer already. Well done Nicky George and your team. Faultless.

We recently enjoyed our third stay at Wharton Lodge in Ross on Wye, and again we found it to be perfect in every way. What a wonderful stay. Its not our first visit to Wharton Lodge, and it won't be our last. Cottage was extremely comfortable and had everything we needed - it was like home from home. If you are looking for a peaceful location with easy links to The Forest of Dean and Wye Valley this is an ideal location. The cottage is finished to a very high standard. The welcome hamper starts your stay off with basic essentials like milk, butter, cereals and tea, coffee with biscuits and fruit. Nicky , George and team could not be more friendly and helpful from advice on where to eat and shop. Nicky even booked our first night evening meal. The gardens are beautiful and the family dogs love to come and show guests how well behaved they are. Views out onto the parkland from the garden are stunning. We certainly hope to return.

We very much enjoyed our short stay in Elgar. We particularly appreciated the ev charging facility made available during our visit. The only thing that would have enhanced our stay would have been a private patio area. However, the gardens are beautifully maintained a provide a peaceful haven.

We stayed at Elgar cottage for the first time this year and booked straightaway to return. It is the most perfect cottage we have ever visited and feels like home. Thank you once again to Nicky, George and the team for ensuring that our stay was so special. Wharton Lodge is well situated for visits to a wide range of places. This second time we found different and villages and attractions (with very useful tips and guidance from both George and Nicky), walking in beautiful countryside, enjoy eating at fabulous restaurants and pubs, even knowing where, nearby to get our car hand washed. The cottage is comfortable, with facilities being practical and easy to use. After a busy day out, a very welcoming place to relax and return to. The grounds are a beautiful haven of tranquility and could simply be the place to remain for the day if desired. We thoroughly enjoyed eating some amazing local produce, bought from both local shops and farms. We shall certainly return to Wharton Lodge when we revisit this amazing and very beautiful part of the country.

We enjoyed our stay at Wharton Lodge Cottages very much. Elgar is beautifully furnished and equipped and the gardens surrounding the cottages are stunning. It is one of the very best self catering accommodation we have stayed in, if not the best! Nicky and George are exceptionally friendly and helpful hosts, ably assisted by their team of helpers. There were plenty of interesting places to visit nearby and the countryside and scenery are very beautiful. We have stayed at Wharton Lodge Cottages many times over the past 20 years and simply love it there! Now that we no longer have our faithful canine companion we stay in Elgar Cottage which is simply lovely - beautifully furnished and kept spotlessly clean.
Nicky and George are excellent hosts and have become personal friends over the years. Nicky never fails to come up with suggestions for new places to visit and indeed this time we visited Sir Roy Strong's Laskett Garden which was simply amazing.
The area is extremely well served with local eateries and dining pubs and we have absolutely no hesitation in giving Elgar Cottage a 5 star rating. We will return!

Another wonderful week at Wharton Lodge cottages . Elgar was really lovely, very comfortable with everything we could wish for.Previously we have stayed in Grosvenor which is equally as nice. This was our first time at WL, and we will definitely be back. Such a warm welcome from Nicky, George and their 3 beautiful labs. The cottage was immaculate (we stayed in Elgar), and the bedroom was incredibly comfortable, with a huge bed and 2 lovely deep armchairs. The kitchen was very well equipped. The view from all of the windows was stunning, sheep grazing under lovely old trees. We had some beautiful walks, and visited Goodrich Castle, which we would highly recommend.
It was our first time in Herefordshire, and we were lucky enough to be there just as all the autumn colours were at their best.
It was very evident how much hard work had been put in to making the cottages safe during Covid, and we would like to thank the whole team for that.
We very much look forward to booking again. Thank you all for a truly memorable and relaxing few days.

My Wife and I have stayed at Wharton Lodge in all three cottages over the past 18 years. The cottages are immaculate, spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished. A relaxing day can be spent in the beautifully tended gardens and orangery.The owners Nicky and George are excellent hosts and nothing is too much trouble for them. Nicky is a mine of information on the local area and is always able to suggest places to eat out or visit.

We used our stay at Elgar as a base for exploring the local sights and countryside. The accommodation is set in a attractive location with free use of a large, well maintained garden with an orangery and access to the surrounding fields. The cottage itself is airy and spacious for 2 occupants, with excellent facilities and lovely views. Everything in the cottage was beautifully presented and spotlessly clean. Nicky and George and their team were very welcoming and offered lots of useful advice on the area. We'd be more than happy to return again in the future.

Excellent stay as usual. Nicky explained the corvid 19 situation which was not intrusive on our stay but we felt assured
that all necessary precautions had been taken.
Still plenty of places to visit in the area even with the precautions in local businesses.
Visiting Wharton Lodge is definitely becoming a yearly holiday venue for us to enjoy.
We have already booked for next year.

Right from the moment we arrived until our day of departure, we felt at home. The cottage itself was lovely, charming and welcoming throughout. The large bath is amazing! The grounds are also fantastic and well kept, with an abundance of colour from the plants in the borders. Close attention has been paid to every detail, from the relaxing music playing in the orangery to the sculptures to look at in the grounds. It was evident that the hosts were taking extra precautions due to COVID-19 eg enhanced cleaning, face masks. We were even given our own COVID packs of gloves and masks in case we forgot! This made us feel safe. Thank you so much for a wonderful relaxing stay.

Elgar cottage is a really beautiful cottage set in gorgeous mature gardens. The cottage was very comfortable, meticulously clean and was well equipped with everything we needed. Nicky and George were welcoming and friendly as well striking a great balance with respecting our privacy. They were helpful with any of our requests and made great suggestions of walks and good pubs nearby. It felt such a treat to stay here for the week and we will definitely return someday. I would thoroughly recommend this cottage.

We couldn't have asked for a more perfect stay at Wharton Lodge cottages. Elgar was a very luxurious getaway for our new little family of 3 and we enjoyed every minute. The cottage is beautifully kept, the grounds are stunning (those sunsets!!), and the hosts, Nicky and George, could not be any more helpful or generous. Our third stay at Wharton Lodge was a delight. Nicky and George are the most friendly and welcoming hosts. Returning for a short break after a stressful year we were greeted like old friends. This is our second stay at Wharton Lodge, and just confirmed everything we knew about this place as somewhere to stay. It was a different cottage to last time but the standard is consistent. The accomodation is spotlessly clean, really comfortable and equipped with everything you need for a break. Being Halloween, there were some lovely little touches themed to the occasion to make the welcome a little bit more special.
The area around Wharton is great for a few days, or a few weeks. With walks in the forest or by the coast and plenty of good pubs nearby there is something for everyone.

My Wife and I have stayed at Wharton Lodge cottages at least 15 times over the past 20 years! This was our first stay in Elgar Cottage which was absolutely superb.
The cottages are all immaculate, beautifully decorated, extremely comfortable and very well equipped. The attention to detail is second to none.
The owners Nicky and George are excellent, very friendly and approachable hosts and always able to suggest new eateries in the area or worthwhile places to visit.
The Welcome hamper on arrival is the icing on the cake!

It doesn’t matter how many times you visit Wharton Lodge; it is always perfect.
A guaranteed green space and oasis of calm and a beautiful gateway to the stunning Wye Valley and it many attractions for young and old(er) alike.
Nicky and her team don’t know anything about resting on any laurels; there are changes or additions each visit to both cottage and grounds And customer service and comfort are always superb.
The views from Elgar are a particular delight - especially waking up to the green vista of parkland and watching the antics of the sheep!

Having stayed in many cottages over the past 15 years some that were good and some that didn't quite make it. This all came to an end in 2012 when we discovered Wharton Lodge Cottages. Since that year we have returned annually in different seasons and found that they have never lost their attraction.

These 3 exquisite cottages are a harmonious haven nestled in beautiful grounds ideally situated for exploration and sight seeing. They are meticulously maintained and updated to provide the 5* luxury that they warrant.

This is due to Nicky and George and their dedicated team, Joyce and Colleagues (Housekeeping) , Mark (Gardener) and Ken (Maintenance). In our experience nothing is ever too much trouble and anything additional you require is provided.

Elgar cottage is a single-bedroom unit in a row of three charming, superclean, well-equipped, and quiet cottages in the courtyard of Wharton Lodge, set in the heart of the beautiful Wye Valley. Nicky and George Cross were wonderful hosts who couldn't do enough to make us welcome. The lovely old town of Ross on Wye is only four miles away and provides all the basic amenities including grocery stores, banks, and restaurants. There is a bus service into Ross right at the end of the driveway. The county is full of good restaurants and pubs, walks, and sightseeing attractions. We thoroughly recommend Wharton Lodge for a relaxing and interesting visit.

We have just spent 4 days at Wharton Lodge, staying in Elgar cottage. Our welcome could not have been warmer, greeted by Nicky and her Housekeeper Joyce with 2 very welcome glasses of locally produced apple juice. The cottage itself was warm, cosy, spotlessly clean and very well equipped - the four poster bed being exceptionally comfortable! Nicky had been particularly thoughtful in providing a birthday card and complimentary bottle of Prosecco to celebrate my wife's birthday which happened to be on the day of arrival.
The grounds of Wharton Lodge are very beautiful and open to guests, which in more summer-like weather conditions would be a real bonus (we had snow!!).
Thank you so much to Nicky and George (and all the team) for sharing their home so generously and providing us with a real treat. We hope to return!

We spent a week in Elgar around 18 months ago and were impressed enough to want to return. If the weather's not good, the cottage is a lovely place to relax. Plenty of space for parking. Situated around 100 yards back from the main road (A40), so no traffic noise. Lovely view across parkland from Elgar and very well maintained gardens to enjoy a stroll.

Even having arrived far later than expected, the Elgar welcome was as warm as ever. I arrived to find Nicky had been into the cottage to put on the lights as the daylight was fading.
The now familiar, well appointed and super comfortable cottage enjoyed some seasonal touches and little changes here and there which evidence that there is no resting on laurels here. The customary high standards we have come to expect of Elgar, combined with a stunning setting and parkland views ensure a perfect break. Thank you, once again, Team Wharton.

We stayed at Elgar Cottage for my Wife's birthday weekend. Communication leading up to the stay was great. The cottage was perfect, Nicky has thought of everything and was very welcoming. The welcome hamper was excellent. The surroundings are really nice with access to a well kept walled garden. Location for us was really good, less than 1 hour drive from home and close to Wye Valley tourist spots.

This was my second stay in Elgar, and it won’t be my last one!
I moved across the courtyard after a week with a friend in Harewood (equally wonderful) and was immediately struck - again - by the light-filled space and beautiful views.
The upstairs comfort is unrivalled - with crisp, yet calm colours, a super-comfortable 4-poster and the joy of waking up to a green vista across the parkland, then enjoyed downstairs with a good cup of coffee in hand.
Nicky, George and the entire Team Wharton know how to make their guests feel welcome and have a knack for personalising the Wharton experience in many ways, including suggesting local places and spaces to match interests and needs.
The list of places to visit & things to do in the oasis that is the Wye Valley is expanding, not reducing.
Definitley on the “Recommend, Revisit & Relax” list.

We stayed here previously and decided that it was a terrific place. Always worried when visiting somewhere that had been great on a previous occasion as sometimes it never quite seems the same but Elgar was just as good. Absolutely 1st class. We’d struggle to think of anyway in which the owners could improve the cottage. It was super clean & warm and welcoming with a great hamper to start off our stay. The family gardens, shared with guests are beautiful, parking is easy & local area quite stunning. The cottage holds lots of info on places of interest to visit. Definite big tick from us.

The warm welcome you receive on arrival from Nicky, George and the staff is a sign of things to come. We regularly stay in Premier Cottages throughout the country, and these are our favourites. The cottages are equipped to satisfy all needs and everything is of the highest standard. The cottages are sited in an elevated position with panoramic views over the rolling countryside and are in easy reach of the towns of Ross on Wye, Monmouth, Hereford and Abergavenny. Dogs can be accommodated and are most welcome. Looking forward to our next visit !

After a delightful green break in Harewood in the summer, I seized the opportunity for a weekend break in autumn-wrapped Elgar. Perfection!

Once again a tasteful colour palette in this immaculate cottage. Beautiful furnishings and everything thought through. A triumph of design ensures the best use of both space and location, Elgar is as effortlessly comfortable as comfortable can be.

Stunning is indeed the right word for the views from this light-filled cottage. Combine this with the doorstep availability of parkland - - to satisfy that perennial desire to kick through those autumn leaves, and a gargantuan effort was required to venture offsite and enjoy the wider area, rather than remain "at home" lost in a book.

The now familiar warm & friendly welcome from Nicky and her team is a large part of what makes Wharton Lodge such a special place - be it as a base for an active holiday or as a space to simply stop, unwind and let the busy world rush by.

Wharton Lodge is a very special place. It seems to exude an aura of peace and calm. As soon as you arrive you are made to feel welcome and at home. Nicky and George are the perfect hosts - nothing is too much trouble. Nicky manages to strike the perfect balance between being helpful and available and respecting her guests’ privacy at the same time.

I stayed in Harewood with a friend earlier in the year and returned in October with my husband to stay in Elgar. Elgar is beautifully furnished, full of light with views over parkland to the rear and is equipped with everything you could possible need for a comfortable stay. It was spotlessly clean and is undoubtedly the best self- catering accommodation we have stayed in. We are planning to return next year to stay in Grosvenor.

Everything about our stay at Wharton Lodge was perfect. We spent a week touring around the Wye valley and the cottages were central to all the attractions. On arrival, everything we needed was there waiting, so there was no need to find things we had forgotten to take. Everyone was so friendly and ready to help if need be. As a keen photographer the garden and surrounding countryside were a pleasure to photograph. If we are in the area again Wharton Lodge will be our first choice.

My husband and I stayed at Wharton Lodge for a few days over the Summer. We had never been on a cottage holiday before but the reviews for the sounded fantastic so we thought we would try it. We just fancied a few days away from London where we could relax and unwind.

We absolutely loved our stay and the reviews were spot on! This place is fantastic. We stayed in Elgar which is beautifully decorated and spotless. Nicky is an awesome hostess and her attention to detail is great. My husband really appreciated the high quality TV and DVD player. Everything in the cottage was of a very high quality and it really felt like luxury. Nicky even provided a box full of board games and a basket of DVDs which came in useful when it rained and we didn't feel like venturing out.

On arrival we were welcomed with a basket full of goodies (freshly baked bread, milk, butter, marmalade, biscuits and wine). We thought this was a really nice touch. The grounds of the property are immaculate and it was really nice to sit in the conservatory and read a book. We really did feel like we chose a great place to escape from the city life.

There are even washing facilities on site which I think is very handy. We ourselves didn't use the washing machine but if we were to stay longer then this would be very useful.

Nicky gave us great advice about the surrounding areas and what good restaurants there are nearby. She is always available to answer any questions that you or if you need any help.

We will definitely come back again.

The Cottages are just off the main A40 road between Ross-on-Wye and Gloucester, so there is easy road access to all the major tourist destinations in the area. The cottages are ideally located to explore the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley in particular.

The Cottages are beautifully appointed and luxurious with all the mod cons - and the welcome basket of foodstuffs is a particularly nice touch.

It is very peaceful and quiet, with lovely gardens to explore, and stunning views out across the countryside.

The owner, Nicky, is very helpful and friendly, both before the stay with any visitor queries, and during the stay; she is also extremely knowledgeable about the local area, and has lots of excellent advice on places to visit, or where to eat (and even offered to drive me to the local pub so I could have a couple of drinks!).

All in all, a perfect place to stay, and one I would thoroughly recommend.

My husband and I enjoyed a short break at Wharton lodge. Elgar cottage is beautiful, it is well equipped and tastefully decorated. The owners really know how to make you feel welcome with a personal greeting,a botitle of wine and essential foods. The surrounding area is excellent, wonderful scenery and lots to do. We'll definitely be going back.

A week in this lovely apartment filled with light was a springtime delight. Surrounded by fresh green parkland occupied by ewes and maturing lambs, constant bird action and access to a well-maintained walled garden, it is a most wonderful place. It provides everything necessary for a comfortable stay and is in a useful location for accessing many rural and urban places of interest. There are a number of good eating places which were drawn to our attention by the very helpful owner if one decides to give self-catering a break; however, the frozen meals that can be ordered ready for your arrival even makes this aspect easy. Highly recommended.

We had a very pleasant stay and the walled garden is a bonus.

We were greeted as usual with great warmth by Nicki, George and the dogs and were delighted to be back in the superbly comfortable cottage with all the facilities one could wish for. The cottages are situated within delightful gardens and extensive parkland and in easy reach of the country towns of Ros-on-wye, Monmouth and Hereford. We have stayed at these cottages regularly for the last ten years and rate them with the best available.

Nicky & George and, not forgetting their dogs, keep a beautiful property and guests feel privileged to share it. Based in the Forest of Dean, fine walks of all lengths are there for the taking and the beauty of Symonds Yat, the Wye Valley and surrounding areas are all a stones throw away. The cottage we had was well equipped and a real home from home. The use of the gardens was a welcome surprise and a wonderful setting for an evening glass or two of wine.
Altogether, a relaxing experience and the perfect base for exploring the area.

We are a retired couple who have used Premier Cottages for approximately 8 years and we always find them an excellent choice. We like home comforts and 4/5 star accommodation and don't mind paying extra for it. Wharton Lodge cottages were most definitely 5 star in every respect. Set in beautiful surroundings with plenty to see and do close by. Local people were extremely friendly and the food especially good wherever we ate. A very enjoyable holiday.

How lucky we were to choose ELGAR when booking our summer holidays! All our expectations were fulfilled. Not only did we find an extremely welcoming, tastefully furnished cottage decorated and equipped with whatever was needed to get along and to feel at home (highly impressive: the quality of all the soft furnishings - an example of excellent and costly craftsmanship!). We also met wonderful hosts: Nicky and George, who are warm-hearted and open-minded people with a natural feeling for what it takes to make their guests happy.

We had a really nice relaxing stay and were extremely impressed with the accommodation. It was furnished to a high standard but still felt very homely. In addition to this we felt very welcomed by our host who was always there if we needed anything, but at the same time respected our privacy. Despite being next to a few other people in the neighbouring cottages, it never felt anything other than peaceful.
