With a built-in sauna and a wood-burning stove, plus private hot tub and outdoor dining, Woodpecker Lodge is the perfect place for up to 6 guests, from which to explore the grounds at Mill Meadow. We have a private fishing lake, as well as access to some of the South West’s most beautiful hikes and walks. If staying in is more your thing, you can fire up the BBQ or settle in front of the wood-burning stove with a good book for a cosy evening. Dogs welcome too. Perfect!

What a wonderful stay in a warm welcoming lodge at Mill Meadow. A peaceful location nestled at the foothills of the Quantocks. Spent a relaxing break walking and visiting nearby Hestercombe returning to the lodge, a log burner and inviting sauna. Looking forward to returning. Thank you to all at Mill Meadow.

Gorgeous cabin, very clean and comfortable and spacious. We loved the hot tub and sauna. Everything is good quality in the lodge and well throughout, really well managed with a personal touch. we would like to return!

We have stayed twice this year and looking to booking our next stay soon! Absolutely loved it. So relaxing and dog friendly. We had homemade flapjacks and apple juice on arrival, along with doggie treats. Chris & Suzanne are both lovely, so friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Woodpecker lodge is gorgeous, and Mill Meadow is in a great location for exploring Somerset or just staying local. Counting the days til we return ……..

We had a fantastic week staying in Woodpecker lodge at Mill meadows to celebrate a big birthday. Lots of personal touches made us feel very welcome on arrival homemade flapjacks and local apple juice plus birthday fizz and card was a lovely surprise ☺️ The lodge was gorgeous and fitted out to a high spec with everything the whole family needed including Vinny the dog. Mill meadows is a real haven and we enjoyed the hot tub and sauna so much. The location was perfect for lots of great dog walks and visiting coastal towns too. The local pub The Swan’s a short walk and the served such fab food we ate there several times. Chris and Suzanne with their team were super helpful always on hand and offered great advice of places to visit we’d definitely return ☺️

Beautiful and tranquil location. Accessible lodge which was immaculate and very well equipped. We had selected the lodge for the accessible equipment that was provided which was ideal for elderly and disabled. It’s also worth mentioning that you can have additional equipment just speak to Mill Meadow team and they will happily support with anything they can. We absolutely loved the lodge, location and the drive for sustainability as well. Highly recommend and would stay here again.

What a wonderful place to stay. I lived in Woodpecker for a month and ‘home from home’ doesn’t do it justice. The lodge is lovely with everything one could need. It’s warm, cosy and the hot tub and sauna a joy after a day hiking the nearby Quantocks. Mill Meadow has a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere and sitting by its lake is incredibly peaceful. There is so much to do in this area as Mill Meadow sits at the gateway to the Quantocks and the coast in one direction with Taunton and all its amenities in the other. Chris, Suzanne, Joe and the team at Mill Meadow are welcoming, helpful and friendly with nothing being too much trouble. A wonderful stay in a beautiful location.

A home from home stay at Woodpecker and Mill Meadow. A lovely lodge, beautiful location and the professional and friendly staff make it such a pleasure to stay. Nothing is too much trouble for Chris and Suzanne and their team. The lodge is warm, spacious and cosy with everything on hand. The location at the foothills of the Quantocks is superb with a lovely lake on site and many walks from the doorstep. It truly is home from home.

This was our 4th stay at Mill Meadows and 1st at Woodpecker lodge, amazing layout, plenty of room with large hot tub and sauna. Nice walk through now opened up for people and dogs at the village Spinney straight from Mill Meadows and Taunton only 10mins away by car for a day out

The hot tub and sauna were large factors in our booking along with the disability adaptations. Both were lovely but there are issues relating to any wheelchair users as the aluminium threshold strip into the cabin was slightly raised. Access is over a gravel driveway which has a firm pathway to a ramp but it was covered in loose stones making it difficult to negotiate. The utility room is outside and has a high step at its entrance making it inaccessible for any wheelchair. It should be noted that our wheelchair user was in a 6 wheel electric wheelchair which is very heavy and low to the ground. Most wheelchairs would have no issue with threshold. The upstairs accommodation was rather cramped due to the beams of the roof and the eves. We are 5ft nothing and struggled so a tall person would find it hard to cope with. Don’t let these minor issues deter you, this is a lovely place to spend a pleasant and peaceful holiday.

The design of the upstairs makes for a lower ceiling in places and we have improved the this design as we have built further lodges over many years of construction. We had a lovely week in Woodpecker Lodge. We needed to be near Taunton over Easter but wanted somewhere peaceful and this delivered on all fronts. 15 minutes into town but located in beautiful countryside. Plenty of good dog walking, chilling in the hot tub, well appointed and cosy lodge; the boys were even able to go fishing. Great care from Mill Meadow and highly recommended.

A surprise gem found by chance. Lovely lodge tucked away in a small estate near a pretty village on the outskirts of Taunton. Clean, tidy and comfortable. Every attention to detail. Rather like an Alpine ski chalet but without the snow!

Only small criticism is that it is advertised as suitable for 6 guests but third bed is a sofa bed on the open landing upstairs - this was made very clear in the booking details and we decided to book it anyway but would be ideal if it was a proper bed. Fine if you have small children but not really tall teenagers or adults in the party. Would not stop us returning as a family of 4 but I would not if there were 6 of us.

This was our, atleast 7th stay.

Woodpecker Lodge is a beautiful stunning lodge. It is in a nice quiet and secluded area. Inside there is a log burner and sauna & outside there is a lovely hot tub to relax and unwind. Whether you come in the winter and relax or the summer and sit on the decking you will have a wonderful stay. The lodge is exceptionally clean inside and goodies of wine, chocolates, flowers and home made flapjacks are awaiting on arrival. The owners are lovely wonderful people, whose kindness and generosity add to the wonderful relaxing stay. Somerset has so many lovely beaches to explore, shopping, castles and dog walks. The local pub is lovely. There is an electric car charger free to use. And it is also like home from home with a great kitchen, washing machine and tumble dryer - which when you have a family are essential. If you truly want a beautiful relaxing holiday to recharge - spoil yourselves and book Woodpecker Lodge.

This is our second stay at Mill Meadow. Lodges are great to stay in. Clean and comfortable. Love the wood burner and the extras left in the fridge along with the homemade flapjacks. The hot tub and sauna are a bonus - will use more next time! Chris and Suzanne are a dynamic duo who are great at making you feel welcome and nothing is too much even though they are super busy.

We loved our stay here. From the comfortable beds to the relaxing hot tub there is so little to fault here. Suzanne and Chris are excellent hosts and they go the extra mile to make your stay special. (My birthday card and banner were a lovely touch).
This visit, with my mother-in-law, was her first holiday for 5 years after a tough time and to see her see her gradually relax and unwind was great. The accessibility is excellent and equipment which made her stay easier was provided.
This was our second visit, there will be a third!

Can’t recommend Mill Meadow enough! It was truly luxurious with a top class hot tub and infra red sauna. The whole lodge was immaculate and spacious with incredibly comfortable beds. The lake was so peaceful and very well kept and our dachshund absolutely loved exploring the space. The managers Suzanne and Chris were very attentive and checked in with us regularly to ensure we had everything we needed to have the best stay. We will definitely be coming back. This was our 4th return to Mill Meadow but our first in the summer time and it did not dissappoint. We made use of the tranquil lake to do some fishing, went bat detecting around the site and explored some of the beaches. Still such a beautiful place. Cannot thank Chris and Suzanne enough for making us feel welcome.

We have.stayed at Millmeadow many times now but this was a short break before my sisters wedding. It was just what we needed, some peace and quiet in lovely surroundings. Chris and Suzanne were as helpful and friendly as ever and treatments in our lodge from the wonderful Elaine were just what we needed. Access to an electric car charger was an added bonus, as were the always delicious homemade flapjacks!

Our 3 night stay had been well overdue and it was our first visit. Mill Meadows is an absolute hidden gem and the facilities are faultless with great workmanship and care put into every detail, from the perfectly built wooden cabin, cleanliness, sauna, hot tub, brick barbecue to the eco friendly harvesting of rain water, solar panels and Chris’s homemade flapjack! Together with the tranquil location the thoughtfulness for the customers takes away all stress and worries, the only negative is we wished we could stay longer, maybe next time.

The only negative comments our friends made was that you can hear every sound from the bedroom below and vice Versa. Almost needs another layer between ceiling and floorboards. Otherwise enjoyed the stay

We enjoyed the rural calm of Mill Meadow, combined with relaxing activities to keep our family entertained such as the hot tub, the sauna and the bbq. I'd suggest bringing games for the evening and note that there are only 2 bedrooms, although space for 6 people to stay. The welcome pack was very generous, very welcome indeed! We have already recommended it to others.

We stayed here as a family while some work was being done on our house. Wow! The lodge is so lovely, cleaned to an exceptional standard, and the location is simply beautiful. It’s clear that a lot of love and care has gone into creating this little haven of peace. You have all the lovely benefits of being in the countryside (peace, quiet, and even beautiful pheasants wandering around the grounds!) while also being close enough to the town should you need to venture out. Our stay was just what we needed- peaceful and relaxing! Highly recommend for anyone looking for a bit of peace and tranquility (with a bit of luxury thrown in)!

We have stayed at Millmeadow several times previously, this was our first as a family in Woodpecker. We were rather let down by the weather this time but fortunately we had plenty of room to enjoy the time indoors, The log burner was a very welcome extra at this time of year! As always Chris and Suzanne looked after us brilliantly and the homemade flapjacks remain delicious! This is the second time we have stayed at Mill Meadow and we were not disappointed. We'd booked this for my father's birthday and had all we needed for a good family get together.

While the weather was not great outside the lodge was clean, warm and cosy to retreat into. There was plenty of space for us to all relax comfortably. We made good use of the hot tub (first time for my dad!) and the sauna. Even in the morning I could sit outside and just watch the birds in the surrounding trees in peace and quiet.

The lake also brought great joy and had a good time catching a variety of fish including roach and the best of all, a perch. This was caught by my dad having not picked up a fishing rod in 30 years, so definitely a good memory for him on such a special day.

A wonderful time was had by all and we will definitely be returning to enjoy Mill Meadow once more!

We once again had an enjoyable stay at Mill Meadows with our 4 children. This time around we tried fishing in the lake with one of the on hand experts and our kids caught fish on the first cast! So they were delighted. The lodges are always warm and comfortable. There is a log burner but they aren't needed.

This was our second stay at Mill Meadow and everything was first class again. The lodge was really comfortable and clean and equipped with everything you could possibly need. Hot tub and sauna were great for relaxation after a busy day. A very good location for easy access to walks in the Quantock Hills and there are also local walks - such a bonus for those of us with dogs. Would recommend a stay at one of the lodges at Mill Meadow without hesitation and we are now looking into booking for next year.

As we return again to the beautiful setting of Mill Meadow. We are greeted as always by Suzanne and Chris Heayns who did everything in there power to make this yet another magical holiday. The lodges had fresh flowers and home made flapjacks awaiting us on our arrival. The lodges are surrounded by trees and pots of beautiful flowers on our patio, the hot tub ready to use, which was great after our journey from Manchester.
On their recommendation we visited the coffee pot for coffee and cakes after our country walk and we later enjoyed a lovely pub meal at the Swan that evening, just walking distance from our lodge.
We are sure to be returning again in the near future.

Another year, another relaxing holiday at Mill Meadow. This place really is a haven of peace and tranquility. Lovely peaceful, rural setting but lots nearby to see and do. We visited Hestercombe, Somerset Museum, Sheppy’s cider farm and did some Alpaca trekking as well as a lot of local walks. This time we stayed in Woodpecker lodge, all first class as expected, loved the hot tub and infrared sauna and the undercover decked area is great even if there’s a shower you can still sit out in the dry watching the wildlife.
Suzanne and Chris always welcoming on site and keep you up to date before and after your visit.

Oh my goodness where do I start?! We had the most amazing adventure at Mill Meadow. The accommodation was perfect - so well equipped and faultlessly clean. Chris and Suzanne made us feel so welcome and were there to assist whenever we needed them. They were so kind to our two boys and our puppy, and really went above and beyond to ensure we had a lovely holiday.

Highlights included;
- Fishing lesson with Martin (could not recommend this more highly)
- Bee keeping with Chris and cuddles with Lockie the chicken!
- Dunster Castle (stunning views and the most amazing gardens)
- Hestercombe Gardens
- Picnic and cider from Sheppey's (we then drove to Branscombe beach which is stunning)
- Breakfast at Silver's
- Kayaking and paddle boarding at Maunsel Lock (gorgeous cafe there too with delicious scones!)
- Dog walks at the Spinney, and further a field too (loved the walk route cards in the welcome pack)

Thank you again, we could not have enjoyed our stay more. We have already recommended you to friends and will definitely be back! Buddy the dog is on countdown!!

I have stayed at Millmeadow several times before and have always had a lovely time and this stay was no exception! This was a long weekend with a friend and my first time in Woodpecker. It’s a lovely lodge with lots of space and was as always, lovely and clean. The fresh flowers and of course the delicious homemade flapjacks were a lovely extra! As soon as we drive through the gates into Mill Meadow, we know we are assured of a wonderful break away! We have stayed in many of the lodges over the years with family and friends and they are all completed to a fantastic standard - Woodpecker Lodge is no different - exceptionally clean, welcoming, and comfortable and tastefully furnished. The little treats are a lovely touch and very welcome after the long drive! Suzanne and Chris make you feel very welcome and are on hand for any queries.

By L, aged 9: it was a great place to stay, there was lots to do in the area. we had a lot of fun I loved the wildlife especially the rabbits which I saw in the early morning when I was cycling back from my cousins (staying in another lodge). Over all its a great place to stay and I would definitely recommend to other families.

By the grown ups: A lovely lodge, containing all the amenities you would need for a get away. Comfortable, clean and well kitted out. Secure grounds which allowed the kids to have a much needed run around after months of lockdown. The lodges are arranged in a great way so that each have a private area which is not really overlooked. It was wonderful to be woken with birdsong every morning (though the blinds could be better to keep the sun out and avoid children getting up too early...), and to be able to step out into so many different walking routes each day. Lots to do in the surrounding area, and Somerset Adventures arranged some fantastic outdoor activities, including treasure hunt, archery, climbing and caving. Owners are lovely, thoughtful and present throughout - we even had beautiful bunting added to our lodge to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary :-)

Wonderfully spacious and thoughtfully designed spaces, our lodge was just what we needed as a family. Great spaces downstairs to come together for a meal, hangout in front of Netflix by the the log burning stove or in the hot tub yet plenty of space for quiet time on the veranda or mezzanine lounge. Chris and Suzanne are welcoming hosts, whose little touches and welcome gifts made the holiday all the more special.

We had a lovely stay at Woodpecker Lodge, the property is immaculate and very well equipped. Lovely hot tub which was checked twice daily. The lodge is in a lovely quiet location but only ten minute drive into centre of Taunton will all supermarkets and shops you will need. There are some lovely walks, we did three different ones, all different distances, there are routes in the information guide in the lodge. We had a lovely welcome from Suzanne on arrival and Chris is on site if you need him. We are re-booking for next year but waiting to see what is happening with restrictions at present. Would definitely recommend staying here.

We stayed for a couple of days for our wedding at Hestercombe. Mill Meadow was such a lovely peaceful place. Our original booking was for April, but our wedding was cancelled due to covid and Mill Meadow rearranged the stay for us no problem with so much understanding. The covid precautions put in place made us feel at ease and the lodges were nice and clean on arrival. Every effort was made to help us celebrate and enjoy such a special occasion. I would not hesitate to return. Thanks so much for such a wonderful time.

Comfortable and spacious property which was extremely clean. A lot of care and attention had been taken to ensure that the property was Covid-19 compliant which filled us with a lot of confidence. Quiet location with the Lodges having their own lake which was very relaxing to sit by. Really enjoyed the coves and beaches that are a short drive away and the local recommended walks across fields and woods to the nearby villages. The lodge has a hot tub which was fun to use and a wood burning stove that we enjoyed as we had a couple of chilly nights. Suzanne and Chris were excellent to deal with and couldn't have been more helpful. Have already booked again for November.

Lovely break in a beautiful setting and lodge. Hot tub fab and regularly tested and checked, Sauna didn’t really get hot but other than that beautiful accommodation. Chris and the team are lovely and very welcoming and helpful. A day dipping a rod in the lake is advised, good fun for the fam. A short drive from all major supermarkets, great Just Eat selection for food delivery if you want it and Watchet etc only 30mins away. A great stay and will be back again.

We are a family of four with two tweenie/teenage children. We all really enjoyed our week at Mill Meadow. Chris and Suzanne - the site's owners and managers, could not have been more helpful and friendly, but not intrusive in any way. Normally, I would find a 'welcome call' a couple of days before arriving a bit irritating but this was quite the reverse! A genuinely helpful and welcoming call. That good first impression continued throughout our stay - given that Chris came twice a day to service the hot tub, we saw quite a bit of him (only if we wanted to - he was extremely discreet) but this was rather helpful than anything else, as he had lots of tips and ideas for things for us to do. Any questions were answered immediately, either in person or via text. The house is very nicely done out with good quality fittings and furnishings (lovely bed linen!) but not overly-filled with furniture/accessories, so it's easy to see where all your own stuff is. There are really pretty, easy walks to be had from the doorstep and the surrounding countryside/coast is just stunning. There are a few narrow lanes but if you're nervous about driving down those, they are possible to avoid much of the time by taking a slight detour via the larger road which passes around 100yds away from the site. The site itself is very quiet and although our lodge was near the main entrance, we felt pleasantly secluded. For sitting/eating outside, there's a lovely deck downstairs and a fantastic upstairs balcony, complete with bean bags! A few points to be aware of: the sofa bed is on an upstairs gallery which is very open to the living room / kitchen below. Not somewhere you would want to put a late-sleeping teenager.... There isn't much of a garden as such - if your children are too small to be allowed 'out' by themselves, you will have to go away from the house for them to have somewhere to play eg. football. The site itself, however, is extremely safe and I saw lots of primary-school aged children roaming freely around the place on scooters, bikes etc. The village rec is a (really lovely) walk up the hill - around 10 mins away.

We really enjoyed our stay at Mill Meadow and we had a wonderful time.

We were made to feel very welcome and Chris and Suzanne really made the holiday special with their helpful advice, nothing was too much trouble.

The lodge was spotless and very spacious. The hot tub and sauna are a big bonus of the lodge. It is in a very quiet spot and the lake gives you a tranquil place to go to relax.

Suzanne and Chris are the perfect hosts. The accommodation was in excellent condition and the hot tub and sauna are great to keep 2 tweens entertained in the evenings. The grounds of the accommodation are well kept and there’s plenty of wildlife about which was lovely to watch while relaxing on the decking area. My puppy took a special interest in the local pheasant!

Myself and my children enjoyed a wonderfully relaxing week at Woodpecker. We were excited to return to Mill Meadow after 10 years and were impressed that the accommodation hadn’t ‘tired’ at all and we loved the addition of the hot tub which got plenty of use! My three teenagers said that it was still as lovely as they’d remembered it! Chris and Suzanne made us feel so welcome and my four year old loved having a good chat with them whenever he saw them. Holidaying here during the Coronavirus pandemic was not a concern at all as everything had been thought of from a socially distanced welcome, staff wearing masks, hand sanitiser points throughout the site, etc and the lodge had been deep cleaned before our arrival so we felt perfectly safe. I chose Woodpecker for our holiday as I really just wanted a change of scenery to mark the summer holiday for my children as we have been in lockdown for 4 months. The change of scenery did us the world of good especially as Mill Meadow is such a beautiful spot. We enjoyed some lovely walks around the area but really didn’t have to go out anywhere to feel as though we were on holiday. Chris and Suzanne did a great job of providing things to keep the kids amused. We all enjoyed a day of fishing at the lake with their fisherman Martin, which was a great experience for my teenage boys who had never fished before. There was also a visit from some al pacas, the little one was thrilled to be able to take one for a walk. In the words of my four year old “This is the best place I’ve ever been on holiday!” What a success, we shall definitely be returning! Thank you!

We had a wonderful long weekend at Mill Meadow in March. The lodges are luxurious and spotlesssly clean, and well equipped to a very high standard ... ours had a sauna as well as a hot tub. Fresh flowers, home made flapjack, fresh milk provided on arrival.
Suzanne provides a warm welcome and all the information you need for a relaxing stay. They would also be ideal for anyone with mobility needs as my bedroom and bathroom was on the ground floor.


The lodges are set around a fishing lake ... the location is idyllic ... quiet and peaceful and very picturesque with spring flowers coming into bloom. The location is an ideal base for exploring Glastonbury area, the Quantocks, Exmoor and the coast with many interesting small villages in the area and lots of tea shops and cafes to visit.

Had the most wonderful stay, at Woodpecker lodge, at Mill meadow. Am a returning customer, having also had a lovely break in Robins Lodges with friends.
After a long drive, we were welcomed into a lit warm lodge, with the log burner lit for us, and cold cider and home made flapjacks. Even a bucket of toys for our young children, was waiting.
Had lovely stay, so relaxing, hot tub was fantastic and we spent evening indulging in it. We even had a sauna in the bathroom. Built in stair gates, top and bottom, make it safe for the little ones.
We found a great beach nearby for fossil hunting at Kilve, and a lovely local pub, that was about a 15 min walk, along lovely footpaths, off the road, for a few pints by the roaring log fire. Great family time.
Beautiful, clean and comfy lodge. There is a lovely lake within the site, and the whole place is very peaceful. Will def be back, as soon as we are able, and am recommending to everyone I know! The owners were hugely welcoming and friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. Thanks

We rented Woodpecker for the weekend for a wedding nearby. The property was perfectly equipped for the four of us staying and very comfortable. Mill Meadows is very quiet and peaceful and was a really nice base for us for the weekend - plenty of lovely walks and pubs in the area.

Woodpecker Lodge provided us with a comfortable and well appointed base while exploring the Somerset region. It was very well appointed with a lovely lounge area and modern kitchen, comfortable beds and fluffy towels. We also enjoyed the hot tub after a day of sightseeing. The location is quiet but convenient to Taunton. A perfect place to stay!

We had a lovely relaxing and quiet mid week stay. The lodge was lovely and beautifully equipped. We were warm, due to the great insultation, and very comfortable. We enjoyed breakfasting outside watching and listening to the birds and little fledglings. Our lodge got the morning sun so we also enjoyed our hot tub first thing, watching the sun rise behind the trees. At first we were a little challenged by the range of recycling bins but quickly got the hang of things.
Our one recommendation would be to have a little more space for a garden to sit out in the evenings. The forecourt is made up of stones which is ideal for parking but we felt that the grass at the far side could have been extended a bit more and our car could have been tucked away to allow for more greenery. We walked to Hestercombe Gardens and visited Fyne Court which were both lovely nature oases.

An immaculate, warm, comfortable, well equipped, attractive base for our annual bell ringing holiday, this year to Somerset. The owners, Chris and Suzanne were friendly and helpful and took a great interest in our bell ringing, even coming to the village church when we rang there to photograph and record us. The surroundings are pleasant, containers overflowing with pansies outside the front of the lodge where one could sit in the sun on the veranda, plenty of space to park and a lovely lake to wander round - much appreciated by my dog. The daily-filled containers with food for the birds were popular with several species, always a delight, though the squirrel hadn't quite worked out how to steal the goodies (thankfully)!
Altogether Woodpecker had the feeling and appearance that a great deal of thought and care had been lavished on this lodge. Thank you.

We booked one months stay at Mill Meadow whilst purchasing our house last November and ended up extending it to just over 5 months! The whole experience has been extremely positive especially given our circumstances. Its not only a superb alternative to taking a long rental let (you can extend month on month) but its been an hugely enjoyable few months in a very relaxing, tranquil setting with everything on your doorstep. From walking over the Quantocks or just to the pub, taking the train (greatly improved links) or car - Mill Meadows is conveniently placed and you are so well-looked after by Suzanne, Chris and their team.
The lodges are spacious, very well-equipped, comfortable and cosy - at our largest we were 7 adults and 3 dogs (perfect if considering a Christmas booking) and the personal, caring service is second to none. Suzanne keeps in regular contact (never pesters, only supports) and does all she can to ensure your stay is as perfect as possible.
Thank you for everything - we were sorry to leave in the end! But will be back and be sure to recommend to family and friends.

sadly our stay this time was not as good as previous stays and we felt the booking process and the information given was not as upfront as before. As returning customers it disappointed us with the booking process before we arrived due to having to move our stay date. we felt disappointed with the feed back we got after sending polite feed back to the owners.
before this booking we would happily have recommended this to others but after this stay due to the booking we wouldn't recommend again. we just feel they should look after returning customers.

All guest feedback is important to us and the owners of each lodge, when guests are very occasionally unhappy with the service we provide at Mill Meadow it saddens us. We responded by text and email immediately following your email, which contained feedback regarding the disappointment you felt after this stay. A fuller response via email followed 24 hours later, which was the day after your planned departure. Our booking system keeps all correspondence with guests so we were able to view all the email exchanges since you booked the stay. You were unable to fulfil your original booking for early September 2018 due to work commitment that you were unable to change, under our terms and conditions the timing was such that you would have forfeited your first payment made under that booking and be required to pay the balance when it was due. You had not taken out the insurance offered via our booking system. In recognition of the circumstances and your previous stays with us we agreed to move your booking at no extra charge to a date you then choose that was suitable for you. We also did not apply our usual £25 amendment fee. We spoke on the telephone two days before your arrival and we were happy to provide you with keys to the lodge at 10 am instead of our usual time of 4pm on the day of your arrival. Following your departure you raised concerns over the lodge heating and the lodge being too hot. This was subsequently checked and found to be working correctly at a temperature of 22 degrees in the living areas and 19/20 in the bedroom. Both within the target temperatures we try to achieve. Had you reported the heating to us during your stay we would have attended immediately to adjust the heating for you. In terms of customer service it is difficult to see how much more we could have done given your circumstances with your original booking that you had to cancel and that you only reported the heating issue after your departure. We texted you on the Sunday of your stay to ensure everything was OK and in your response you never mentioned anything about your unhappiness at the lodge being too hot. As returning guests who stayed during the very bad snow in March 2018 you know that we do are very best to care for our guests in every eventuality during their time at Mill Meadow but can only react once we know there is a problem. Hopefully should you feel able to visit us again we will be able to make your stay more comfortable.

This was our second Christmas stay in Woodpecker Lodge and we enjoyed it just as much as our first visit. The place is amazing and hospitality fantastic. Location is great for local attractions. The town is only about 10 minutes away and you are not far from the seaside or countryside. The stream railway is good too and you can take dogs on. We have already booked for Christmas at Mill Meadow for next year :)

We rented both Woodpecker Lodge & House Martins for a long weekend for our family of 10 from Great Grandparents to a very active 2 year old Our stay was for the extended weekend of my Wife's 60th Birthday celebrations. The welcome on arrival from Suzanne and Helen was great. A particularly nice touch was the 'Happy Birthday' bunting next to the front door, along with the home baked flapjacks, flowers and bottle of wine. Woodpecker Lodge has everything you could need for a weekend or longer stay, was warm and cosy. We didn't need to light the woodburner as the weather was still mild. The ground floor bedroom with adjacent bathroom was ideal for the Great Grandparents who didn’t have to negotiate stairs. Ramped main door access was also a plus.
We had arranged for outside caterers, The Olive Tree, Taunton to provide a three-course evening meal on the Saturday evening. Mill Meadow provided extra tables so that we could accommodate our whole party. The meal was superb and they even washed up - bonus. We also paid to use the jacuzzi which was excellent. Staff checked this twice a day during our stay to ensure all was fine. The wi-fi was excellent. The setting and location was ideal. Close enough to Taunton for those who wanted to shop and rural enough to be away from the noise of City life. The Quantocks is but a short drive with lots of walking opportunities and various Pubs who do excellent food. We went to the Carew Arms in Crowcombe for Sunday lunch which was, again excellent. We also visited Kings school Christmas Fayre which is well worth a visit if you are at Mill Meadow at the right time.
So in conclusion - a wonderful memorable weekend in an easily accessible location. We will certainly visit again and would highly recommend Mill Meadow.

The lodge is beautiful inside and out, very spacious and comfortable. The host, Suzanne, was very helpful and kind - she lit the wood fire so that it was ready when we arrived and she had baked some treats for us. We stayed here for a wedding nearby and thoroughly enjoyed the full weekend at the lodge. Lots of nice walks in the local area. We used the bbq one evening and had a great time with our friends.

In the middle of a heatwave the lodges were cool and the outside space perfect in the evening.
Although only a short stay it was made to feel longer due to the kindness and consideration of the owners.
The lodge was the perfect holiday home for our dog.

Upon arriving at Mill Meadow I was greeted by Suzanne who is a fantastic host. Nothing is too much trouble, but she genuinely had thought of everything for our arrival. Flowers in a vase on the table was a lovely touch.
We stayed in Woodpecker lodge and it was immaculate. All the bedding was first class and the beds were great quality. everything worked as it should and the plates, cutlery and glasses were all in very good condition. The hot tub was checked on a regular basis and was fantastic. The sauna in the downstairs bathroom was an added bonus. It was great to have a choice of games and cards, which we used on a couple of the evenings.
During our stay we had fantastic weather and we sat outside everyday using the table and chairs. There was 1 lounger which we used and it would have been lovely to have a couple more as the weather was so warm we just wanted to lounge around. We did take towels up to the grass area by the fishing lake and it was beautifully kept and very peaceful.
We will definitely be returning to Mill Meadow and i would highly recommend it.

It was my first time here but not my last and my partners..........don’t know how many she always came here with her family for Christmas so that’s how I heard about Mill Meadows. We met Suzanne on arrival and she had the place all cozy and warm with homemade flapjack waiting in the kitchen. She remembered my partner and her family then showed me all around the lodge. Lodge was fine, although the hot tub was not warm on arrival and took until 22.00 to become warm enough to use. Doesnt sound too big a deal however we were only there for 3 nights in total.
We tried to utilise a number of the delivery services from the folder, a number do not deliver as stated in the folder. It may be prudent for you to check the folder is up to date.
Enjoyed stay and lodge very nice.

Sofa bed on Mezzanine was OK for a few nights; the two beds were comfortable with medium firm mattresses. Heating was mystifying!

- You really need a car - the pub nearby was closed and there was nothing else around so there was nowhere we could go to eat; takeaway options were below average; you can however, get supermarket deliveries
- Lots of rules (but we decided this meant the lodge was well looked after)

We would definitely go back to Woodpecker Lodge for a short break, and would consider the larger lodges for bigger groups. Thank you!

Stayed with some girlfriends for a hen weekend. Booked three lodges for all of us.
Everyone loved the accommodation, such a high standard. Everything was there that we wanted.
Were made to feel really welcome by the owners - who were perfect, showed us what was what and then kept out of our way and allowed us to enjoy the space. They even put some 'hen' bunting up before we arrived.
One friend is already planning to visit again in November.

Woodpecker Lodge is an outstanding accommodation to spend time in. It is in a lovely location. Quiet and private for you to relax and enjoy time away from life. And yet there is plenty of things to do locally. There is plenty of room for families, stair gates are fitted on the stairs top and bottom for younger guests, chill out areas for teenagers but still cosey if it was only 2 of you. The lodge is fully equipped with everything you need and the cleanliness is outstanding. We enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub & sauna. And spent afternoons and early evenings fishing and reading by a beautiful lake. There are huge fish to be caught. The owners are on hand to help out. I was struggling to get the washing dry & the owners did my tumble drying several times during the stay. There is an airer in the lodge. The hot tub is checked on twice a day. A mile up the road there is a Dr's surgery which we had to go to & they were excellent. When you arrive there are amazing home made flapjacks to enjoy with a tea or coffee. There is a lovely decking to the front with lounger & tables and a brick built BBQ should you wish to dine outside. My husband, myself, and 2 children never wanted to leave. We had the most amazing holiday and have booked to return. I would highly recommend Woodpecker Lodge to stay. You won't want to go home again.

We had an amazing week. Suzann and Chris had thought of everything to make your stay first class, including home-made flapjacks and freshly pickedsweet peas on arrival. The lodge was clean, comfortable and spacious with a sauna and hot tub, both of which got plenty of use during our stay! The lake was delightful with good access and plenty of fish both large and small to keep grandad and grandson busy. There is also lots to do in this area: great walking, National Trust properties, amazing gardens to visit, fantastic places to eat out, and horse riding. I would recommend.

The lodge was amazing set in a stunning location easily accessible to all amenities. Lodges were well equipped and perfect eco friendly , enough space for all lovely time in the hot tub and added addition of a sauna in the bathroom
Very good value for money and would definitely go there agin, owners were very helpful from the start and gave us a welcome pack which was lovely as well was just like home from home

Had a short break for my birthday with my husband, 5month old daughter and dog! Was such a luxury little gem, husband was in the sauna every day, visited hestercombe gardens which was perfect with the dog, had a day into Taunton which was a 10min drive, perfect locations will without doubt be recommending to family and friends and booking a winter break!

Mill meadow is excellently located for Taunton and its in a wonderful location being at the foot of the Quantock Hills.Suzanne and Chris were incredibly helpful .The hot tub was a little luxury and was very well maintained.The facilities within the lodge itself were perfect and we wanted for nothing in our 2 week stay.
Our dogs enjoyed their stay too at Woodpecker lodge too.

Woodpecker Lodge is a perfect base for a family to enjoy a relaxing break during the Winter. When it is cold outside, the lodge is warm and well-equipped. If you are looking for quality accommodation and plenty of space for up to 6 people (and their pets) then this lodge offers everything you need to rest and feel ready to explore the amazing surroundings.

Everything was superb. We loved our stay at Woodpecker. Suzanne was very friendly and helpful. I highly recommended Mill Meadow if you are looking for a place to stay in Taunton. It's quiet yet very convenient. I was totally amazed by its cleanliness. My kids had a very good time at the lodge. The room, the kitchen, the shower.... can't be better with Good luck.

A large group of us stayed for 3 nights over New Years. Suzanne was incredibly helpful in showing us around and making us feel welcome. The lodge's equipment was of an extremely high standard and the welcome pack is an added bonus.

We only managed a short walk in the local area, but that was because we were so cosy in the lodge. We'll definitely be back!

We booked late and the host was very acccommodating. On arrival the lodge was warm and welcoming and had everything we needed. The weather was lovely and we used the local guide books available in the lodge to walk and ride across the region. The hot tub was a welcome reward at the end of a busy day. Suzanne was attentive but didn't crowd us, and we had a great stay. Meadow Mill is somewhere we plan to return.

Hosts we very welcoming and couldn't do enough to help us (including housekeeping unpacking shopping which arrived early). Accommodation is spacious and exceptionally clean. We used the hot tub every day as well as the BBQ as we were blessed with good weather. Only a 10 min drive for Kings school (dependant on the traffic). Book ahead for local pub/restaurants as we hadn't and all were full on the Saturday night and booked up until the Wednesday. Ample washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets were provided, tea towels etc. Initial supply of toilet paper was provided but bring more if staying for longer than a weekend - all usual for self catering. Tranquil, idyllic setting. I would have loved there to have been proper bath sheets for towels as they were quite small and only enough for one per person for the week, which if you are using the hot tub as well, would have been nice to have had extra. We would have bought our own for the hut tub if we had known, but not a big issue. These lodgings will not disappoint.

I honestly can't fault the lodges in terms of their set up, quality, facilities and location, but I have mixed feelings about the processes involved with the booking. I spent the duration of my wedding at the lodges, along with 20 others - and each of us found the rules that we were presented with throughout our stay quite intrusive. I was emailed ON MY WEDDING day asking for information about the people staying in one of the lodges. We were also repeatedly checked up on by those running the lodges. Whilst I appreciate this was not how it was intended to feel, I found myself deliberately hiding from those in charge in order to avoid another conversation about how the lodges were set up, who was in charge of what, when we would be departing etc. I just wanted to enjoy my wedding weekend and not feel quite so suffocated. Having said this - the staff made the effort to provide a bottle of champagne and a 'just married' sign at our lodge. Again - a lovely touch -but perhaps one that should have been sorted prior to arrival rather than having to enter the lodges after we had arrived. To sum up my thoughts - yes, the lodges are spectacular, but I felt, at times, an invasion of privacy meant I struggled to really get the most out of them.

We stayed at Woodpecker Lodge at Mill Meadow for almost a week, as we were getting married in Taunton and wanted somewhere to base ourselves with our friends and family around us. We couldn't have picked a better place, Mill Meadows was absolutely perfect. From start to finish we were looked after, felt completely relaxed and at home and Chris and Suzanne were fantastic. Woodpecker Lodge was perfect, clean, modern with an amazing log burner, and perfect for getting ready in the morning of the wedding. It was brilliant having our friends and family around us in the surrounding lodges, which were equally as fantastic, and everyone had a fab time (the hot tubs went down a treat too!). Thanks so much, we can't wait to return!!

We have been lucky enough to have stayed at Mill Meadow on a number of occasions and this weekend break with good friends was just as wonderful. First class accommodation in beautifully furnished lodges - it's the small details that make all the difference. Ideally situated for exploring the beautiful countryside and the coast is only 30 minutes drive away. The hot tub was very welcome after a day exploring. We'll be back. Excellent short Spring break to UK to catch up with family and friends. Ideal location and flexibility to meet and entertain visitors and have them stay over in a more relaxed casual non hotel setting. All requests were quickly dealt with by Suzanne, without any hassle. Three days - not enough time to explore this lovely (new to us) part of the English countryside and will need to be booking again in the near future, to explore the numerous walks, rides and local attractions that are at hand, as illustrated in the lodge information pack and can be seen in the Mill Meadow Facebook photo albums. Spring was in the air and managed to get the end of the snowdrops, the bright yellow daffodils and the lambs hopping in the surrounding fields. Braved the cold to get in the Hot tub -but lying back in the bubbling hot water, with kids also plucking up courage, laughing and looking up at the stars made it well worth it! Would not hesitate to recommend.

We had a lovely weekend, going walking locally in the Quantocks. Woodpecker Lodge was ideal, clean, comfortable, good facilities, warm and cosy. The hot tub was lovely. My only comment would be that it would have been preferable if it had one double and one twin room, rather than two doubles. This would allow more flexibility.
But thanks for a great location for a walking weekend.

We stayed in the Woodpecker Lodge over New Year and arrived at about 3.00pm. Before we arrived I had a text while traveling down to say that the lodge was ready for us. We were greeted by Suzanne who showed us around the lodge and said to contact her if we needed anything. All these little extras go a long way Suzanne also knew all our names.The lodge was beautiful and had everything we needed in it for our stay. On arrival was a pint of milk, tea, coffee ect and home made flapjacks which were a lovely little touch. When we needed logs for the log burner we just text and they arrived. The wifi was also great as we could look up places close to us. The walks around the village although very wet were stunning and in the summer must be exceptional. Mill Meadow is set in beautiful surrounding.
If your going to stay in one of these lodges over winter and are worried they will be cold, don't be because we couldn't believe how warm they were even without the log burner going.
Looking forward to our next stay.

This was our second time of staying at Mill Meadow & we cannot recommend it enough. All lodges are very clean & homely, you relax as soon as you arrive. We stayed over Christmas & everything you could possibly need for cooking the full dinner is provided, not only that we had a beautiful Christmas tree as well. What can we say Mill Meadow for us is great that is why we return when we are able.
Suzanne, Chris and the team are all so helpful. With everything you need for a super stay. We arrived and the lights were on and the log burner was lit and lovely and cosy. We love coming here and we keep finding great places to visit nearby.
The Swan down the road is a great little pub to eat home cooked food, definetly worth a try.
We cannot wait to return and stay. All the lodges are of the same high standard.Thanks once again for another great stay.

This is our second stay with Mill Meadow and it didn't disappoint. Lodge was spotless and very comfortable. Kitchen is very well equipped and there was plenty of extra crockery and glasses for entertaining extra guests.
All the staff we met were very friendly and helpful, and in particular Suzanne, who showed us around the lodge and went out of her way to find a gold necklace that I had managed to loose and as it was of sentimental value I was extremely grateful for her help.
Hopefully next time we will be able to stay for a week and the sun will shine!

Mill Meadow Lodges were the perfect setting for our large family party over the weekend of our son Mike's wedding to Zoe.


Suzanne and Chris went the extra mile in order to make everything as comfortable as possible. The standard of the accommodation is excellent and really comfortable and the setting just lovely with the lake and surrounding grounds. My husband Tim and I saw a kingfisher flying across the lake when we walked over to explore on our arrival!

Suzanne even came up with the perfect solution for feeding what became a rapidly expanding supper party for Mike,best men, ushers and extended family the evening before the wedding. This took the form of "The Red Tricycle Catering Company" from Taunton who provided a lovely BBQ, complete with old fashioned bicycle dispensing ice creams for pudding.

This really is the most wonderful place to stay.

We returned on Friday after spending a week in Woodpecker Lodge. The lodge was very clean,spacious and modern with complimentary tea,coffee,milk,apple juice,homemade biscuits and a lovely vase full of sweet peas on our arrival. The lodges are very private and ours had the added luxury of a generous sized hot tub (maintained twice daily) and a sauna. We are very keen on wildlife and had the privilege of a resident grey squirrel, loads of garden birds, 2 bees nests that incidentally were oblivious to us as they were busy doing what bees do and a family of swallows nesting in the apex.Fishing on site is excellent the lake is very well kept and well stocked and the scenery surrounding the lake which is where we walked our dog is absolutely stunning.There are loads of tourist attractions, shops and pubs in the close vicinity. Suzanne and Chris the proprietors were extremely friendly,polite and helpful and they are very eco aware and recycle wherever possible.Me,Tim and Emmy our staffie had a fabulous time here and as can be seen on Mill Meadows facebook page Emmy really didn't want to leave. We will definitely return.

We came as a group of 12 and stayed in two of these beautiful lodges between the Friday and Monday. We couldn't of asked for a better stay, we arrived to an immaculate lodge and a tub of freshly baked cookies and anything we needed over the weekend was not too much trouble for Suzanne. The surrounding area is lovely with all amenities within a close walk or drive. I would highly recommend Mill Meadow as the lodges are fantastic and the customer service provided from initial enquiry to the day we left was brilliant. Thank you for making my best friends hen weekend one to remember.

Some constructive feedback would be to state on the webpage that the hot tub - although totally fab! - is supposed to fit no more than 3 people in at a time. We also ran out of loo roll!

We stayed at Mill Meadow as we had a wedding in the area on the Saturday. Woodpecker Lodge was pristine. Lovely location and peaceful. We were a party of 5 girls and Woodpecker lodge provided the perfect chill out place for us to all catch up and remenisce over the last 10 years.

Looking up at the stars from the hot tub was most definitely THE highlight of the weekend. In fact it was so good we hope to stay again for New Year!

We stayed here as part of our wedding celebrations and found the accommodation was a very high standard and extremely well equipped. The owners and staff are excellent and very helpful. There were also some lovely personal touches for when we arrived back from our big day. I can not recommend Mill Meadow highly enough.

What a great week, woodpecker lodge was fantastic, the welcome we had from Suzanne was lovely, the home made cookies were a personal touch.

A very relaxing short break to recharge our batteries. Beautiful lodge (immaculate and finished to the highest standard), fully equipped with everything you could think of (even a set of kitchen scales which came in useful after blackberry picking one afternoon - and the result - a blackberry and apple crumble!). We took advantage of the hot tub - and in the chillier September evenings we lit the log burner in the lodge - very cosy. The welcome pack was very comprehensive, full of useful local information - walks, amenities, instructions. The area has so much to offer for all ages and nothing is too much trouble for the owners. Can't wait to return - in fact we have booked again for next May - bringing the family with us!

Mill Meadow is a peaceful place. We are french and we enjoy this part of England. We had a good stay and will come back next time to have an another cabin. Thanks Suzanne.

We stayed for 3 nights here with our 1 year old and 3 year old children. We had an absolutely amazing time. The house was immaculately clean, almost like new. The design of the house was so lovely, nice and cosy. The stair gates were a great bonus esp for our two little ones...we didn't have to be worrying about them upstairs. We would defo recommend this for a holiday, we wish we had stayed for a week at least. Nice area and so many things to do. We went to the Fleet Air Arm Museum and went on the steam train trip to Dunster...fabulous walks around the castle. Really picturesque!!
We would highly recommend this place to stay.
The only thing we didn't like was the house got very warm at night. Our daughter has eczema and it flairs up when she gets very hot.

Lovely lodge, very comfortable, lots of space, excellent facilities in the kitchens and bathrooms. Very warm welcome from the owners on the first day with tea, milk etc provided and the kettle boiling and homemade biscuits! LovelyOnly complaint would be that the blinds don't really keep out the morning sunlight.

It is a really nice place to stay with all modern comforts. The staff is very friendly. It is even a relatively sustainable form of holiday (with recycling etc.). But in the end, it is better if you have a car. You cannot transport much on the bicycles (which can be rented), the bicycles were not actually in a shape that invites longer tours, and the next supermarket is too far to walk (and downhill).

Despite all efforts, if you really want to make the world a better place, you should not stay at the Woodpecker Lodge. If you are happy with a slightly more environmentally friendly (but still environmentally damaging) alternative to the more environmentally damaging normal type of holiday home, then get in your car and enjoy a lovely stay at the Woodpecker Lodge.

Beautiful lodges with excellent facilities. Made to feel completely at home with everything you would ever need and a few extra treats. Mill Meadow couldn’t do enough for us and were on call for all our needs and made us feel incredibly at home.
We stayed here for our wedding and it really was the perfect end to a perfect weekend. Thinking of coming back for our one year anniversary!
Truly lovely place to stay, enjoyed every second.

My daughter and I can only say our stay at the lodge was excellent, very clean and the staff were friendly, lovely location, sitting round the pond in the sunshine was very relaxing. Would most definately not hesitate to return.

Our stay at Mill Meadow's Woodpecker Lodge was outstanding in everyway. We could not have asked for more. Quality and attention to detail was brilliant and the level of service was appropriate to ensure that we had information where needed but left to our own devices to enjoy our time.

The holiday was above our normal budget but we could not fault it and it was definitely worth the extra we spent.

We stayed at Woodpecker Lodge for a long weekend in March (our yearly girls get-together). We were greeted upon our arrival and made to feel very welcome. The lodge was very tastefully furnished whilst being extremely comfortable. It was immaculately clean and the beds were beautifully made up. We did a couple of walks in the lovely countryside (lots of information available in the lodge on eateries and places to visit in the area) and spent two lovely evenings sat in the hot tubs under the stars! Would highly recommend a visit to Mill Meadow - the attention to the little details makes for an extra special stay. Can't wait to return.
