Fantastic location with multiple walks from the estate, all with varying habitats and wildlife. We loved our short stay break at Castle Cottage 1. Cottage well equiped and comfortable. Beautiful setting on the loch side, otter watching from the garden wall. Then Ashleigh roared in with a vengeance. Cosy with the log burner when Highlands’ power failed - until the chimney pot crashed. Waves blew into the corner of the garden and left a tide mark crescent on the grass. We had a great holiday in Castle cottage…never to be forgotten!

The four days we had at Castle Cottage were fantastic, the cottage is cosy and provided everything we could possibly need. The setting was stunningly beautiful, helped a little by wonderful weather.All the estate staff were helpful and extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Once again we were stunned by the amazing wildlife experiences we had during our visit. We will definitely be back. Thank you.

Had a great week staying in Castle Cottage 1. The property is very well equipped and very comfortable - a really nice traditional style with modern facilities. The location is superb with lovely views over the Loch and great cycling and walking on the doorstep. Perfect for wildlife spotting. Overall highly recommended.

Our family has been returning to Ardtornish for 4 decades . It is a wonderful location, close to the Sound of Mull.
Castle Cottage 1 is very warm , clean and comfortable.
The decor is relaxed , country style with nice old pieces and very well equipped. .

The cottage is warm well-equipped and comfortable. The location is idyllic on the loch with Ardtornish House is one direction and the Mull in the other. The birds are plentiful and loved the bird feeder.

The staff were helpful and responsive. I would recommend this holiday for those who love peace and quiet, bird watching and walking in the mountains.

Lovely cottage right on the Sound of Mull, stayed here a few times & it's our favourite.
The views, peaceful location make it an absolute joy.
Clean, comfortable, warm, everything you need for a relaxing stay.Some areas have been renewed,fireplace, carpet etc.
Leave some nuts out & you're guaranteed a visit from a local pine martin.
Good value for money.

This is our second stay in Castle Cottage 1 and the cottage has everything you need for a holiday. lovely welcome pack and all staff members are friendly and helpful. This time due to the weather conditions there was a possible problem with the water which Kenny solved by bringing us a large water container for use.
Although the cottage is cosy, comfortable it is now beginning to show signs of needing a bit of repair/care. The wallpaper is coming off the wall in the lounge and main bedroom and the windows paintwork do need a good clean. I noticed they were new covers on the furniture in the lounge.
The situation of the cottage is I think the main reason for staying there - just to be able to look from the lounge plus bedroom windows at the loch, birds etc is wonderful.

We've stayed in many of the cottages and flats on the Ardtornish Estate and always wanted to try the Castle Cottage; our stay Castle Cottage 1. didn't disappoint! The cottage is cosy and very comfortable, quiet and with great views over the head of the Loch. The wildlife on view from the garden is amazing: Otter, Pine Martin, Curlew and on our first evening, a short-eared owl! Amazing!

The walks from the cottage around the loch and up river are easy and delightful.

We're booking again for next year!

For the first time we stayed in Caste Cottage 1, whereas before we always stayed at the main Ardtornish estate. Castle Cottage 1 is in a great location, right on the water, with a comfortable and sunny garden. The first week we stayed with four, and the second week with two in the cottage. The cottage is a nice size and did not feel crowded. As always, the shop was well stocked and the staff is very friendly. Treats and water for the dog were provided as well, which was great

Very comfortable cottage in an excellent location. Nice to stay on an interesting and well run Scottish estate.
Welcomed the introduction of pre-made meals at the shop. We would be interested in any new wildlife access related developments e.g. red squirrels feeding station.
Flexible stays of less than a week have been great for us but understand why 7 day minimum lettings are preferred. This may make it more difficult for us to return.

We had another fantastic stay at Castle Cottage it's pure peace and tranquility totally recharges your batteries. The weather was unbelievable sat out with our shorts on for two days in April amazing. You never tire of the views across the Loch and the changing tides lovely sun rises and sunsets just totally idilic. The wildlife around the Estate is amazing otters,deer, squirrels and countless species of birds. An Estate totally unspoilt it's like a step back in time.

A lovely charachterful lochside cottage just beneath Kinlochaline castle. See sea otters from the windows and walk straight from the door around Ardtornish Estate or along the loch to Lochaline where there is a great cafe and the Whitehouse restaurant. Very relaxing quiet location.

Located near the head of Loch Aline you are forever taking in different views as the tide goes in and out and ideally located to watch the wildlife and time go by. The cottage is very well equipped with everything you would ever need for a stay and a log burner to fire up in the evening to relax around. With a comfortable bed and clean highland air sleeping wasn’t an issue. You can undertake many walks and expeditions from the cottage on either side of the Loch or venture up into the hills - so an ideal location during which a week passes far too quickly. Close enough to the village of Lochaline for shop - cafe - or eating out in an evening. And if you have any questions help is at hand in the Visitors/Gift shop on the estate - or stock up on the Tobermory gin and whiskey!

5 day stay in early June, travelling by car from Midlothian. Easy to find, good parking space. Cottage prepared & spotless including welcome pack.
Everything worked as it should. The utility area was useful for drying.
Loved the garden when the weather allowed and the sitting room when it didn’t, watching the birds, the Loch and a visit from a pine marten.
The walks round the estate are good.
My only issue was the slightly irregular glass in the windows which interfered with use of binoculars & telescope!
The information pack is very helpful.

It's been 18 years since I first stayed at Ardtornish, it's a wonderfully beautiful estate and I'm still finding new things to do there. We usually stay in Craigendarroch 1 but opted for a change. Castle Cottage sits just at the mouth of the loch, located in an atmosphere of tranquility. It was perfectly sized for our family of 4 (and 2 miniature Pomeranians) I couldn't recommend this cottage enough and will certainly be back

We stayed at Castle Cottage 1 for a few days and certainly weren't disappointed. Beautiful location on the loch shore and lovely enclosed garden which was great for our little dog. The cottage itself was cosy and well equipped. Not 'luxury' but perfectly comfortable with everything you might need on hand. We'd planned a trip over to Mull (which is very easy from the nearby Lochaline ferry) but in the end we just stayed on the estate as there was so much to explore. Lovely walks, lots of wildlife and just so peaceful. We met a few of the team in the estate shop and everyone was really friendly and helpful. We'll definitely be back and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone looking to discover the beautiful Ardgour peninsula. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Everything you needed was there, loads of space to store our canoe gear & dry it off.
Bed linen was great quality as were the towels, clean, tidy rooms.
Perfect spot next to the Loch, Deer & Pine Martin happily visited, Cuckoo's were in full voice to.
Definitely a stay that I'd highly recommend.

The cottage is well stocked with everything you need it's just a pity there is only the snack bar where you can get something to eat and that is as the name suggests is just a snack bar nowhere is there any facilities for a sit down meal unless your prepared to travel 20/25 miles

A stunning part of the world and a cottage with view to die for! Been in many self catering holidays and this was very good indeed - plenty to do in the area albeit COVID restrictions mean more cooking in than eating out - buy local from the estate and use some of the recipes they have! Cottage in good nick but a little bit of a mix of the old and the new - heating system a bit cranky and old - shower is warm and works well. Kitchen very well equipped. Would recommend and with a bit more investment in the cottage itself will be in the premier league soon!

This is our first holiday this year, a welcome break! Ardtornish is a haven, it doesn’t change. Castle Cottage 1 is lovely, Listening to the burbling of the curlew whilst lying in bed is wonderful. We didn’t see the otters this year. Thanks for opening up this year.

Quiet, peaceful location. Views from living room window every changing as the tide ebbs and flows. Lots of lovely walks from the front door. Cottage comfortable and clean. Would recommend doing a shop before taking the ferry.

We booked this accommodation as part of the our daughter’s wedding package. All our guests had nothing but the highest praise for all the accommodations. Words used to describe the cottages were cosy, inviting, clean and comfortable, many with breathtaking views. The apartments in the house were absolutely fabulous. They were filled with Victorian charm and grandeur but at the same time we’re inviting and comfortable, we couldn’t have asked for anything better. Everyone had one of the most memorable and enjoyable weekends ever, from the beautiful walks on the estate to the sumptuous wedding festivities that took place in the hall of Ardtornish House. It was perfection!

Our stay in Castle Cottage was absolutely superb! This was our first time in this cottage although we have been to Ardtornish many times. This is definitely the place to stay as we have seen otter everyday, also eagles,newts and a glorious sun rise. The staff as always we’re very friendly and welcoming and looked after us in a very friendly way.

A wonderfully relaxed 2 weeks in a stunning location. Beautiful cottage with a spacious garden and amazing views of the Loch. Wildlife in abundance if you are prepared to wait quietly. Staff very welcoming and pleasant. Kenny in particular went above and beyond in terms of his help.
Would recommend the estate meat (venison, lamb and beef) and also the vegetable boxes which were dug fresh and delivered to our door. Weather changeable, walks/runs around the estate beautiful, midges not too much of an issue.
We will definitely be back. Ian, Sarah and Wilson (the dog)
