This is one of our semi-detatched stone built cottages which was traditionally home to one of the estate's workforce. A tranquil haven beside the River Aline.

We keep coming back to Ardtornish and love to stay in Craigendarroch 1. If you love the idea of a cosy (very well appointed) cottage nestled between the hills, river, woods and loch, then look no further, It is always a special and a happy place to visit; with a friendly personal touch from the folks who are fortunate to live and work here The wildlife watching and walking, which we come for, are spectacular. White tailed eagles, golden eagles, ravens, otters, bellowing stags and pine martens all seen regularly. There is nowhere else like it!

We had a wonderful week staying at Craigendarroch 1 for our second visit and were delighted to find that this very special cottage had again been improved by the Ardtornish Estate. We enjoyed the tranquility of our surroundings and the freedom to explore the natural beauty of the Estate and its wildlife, including the friendly Pine Marten. We loved the experience so much that we have already booked Rose Cottage for next year, just to try a different location on the Estate!! Thanks to everyone at Ardtornish who made us feel so welcome.

We recently stayed in Craigendarroch 1 for a few nights (we had booked a week but left a couple of nights early due to the wet and windy weather!). It is a comfortable cottage in a gorgeous location and appears to have been refurbished since our last visit. The kitchen now has underfloor heating and the new shower is fab. My only request would be for a couple of non stick frying pans, other than that the kitchen is very well stocked indeed!
Our top tip would be to leave some food out on the picnic table at night and then enjoy watching the cheeky little pine marten that likes to visit around 10pm!

Craigendarroch 1 is simply wonderful! Thoughtfully laid out, beautifully decorated and above all cosy.
It is only 50 yards from the river which is pretty much the only sound you hear apart from an owl at night.
Very relaxing and there is a lovely large visitors' book with some charming pictures drawn by younger visitors.
The view of the castle in the distance lends to the atmosphere.

Craigendarroch is a beautifully cosy cottage in a wonderful and idyllic location. The underfloor heating in the bathroom and kitchen took the chill off the midwinter temperatures outside in January, and I loved the instant access to the beautiful woods surrounding the cottage.
Everyone at Ardtornish Estate has been incredibly friendly and they have helped me out more than I could have ever imagined. I was staying temporarily while looking for longer term accommodation in the area, and the generosity that I received from Ardtornish has been really heartwarming. Thank you!

This a lovely cosy cottage. It is very private , at the end of a dead end track. There is an adjoining cottage, our neighbours were very quiet. It is well equipped, with everything we needed. At night it’s lovely to hear the babbling from the river.

Lovely weather was great but upstairs rooms got a bit hot overnight as we couldn’t open windows because of midgies. Can’t complain as how often do you get such great weather! Good to have stream nearby for a dip. Only one loo roll - which was weird as rest of cottage was very well stocked. Track to cottage bit bumpy and couldn’t use our road bikes on it. Gave value for money 4 only because I hadn’t realised how expensive holiday cottages in the highlands now are.

We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to the Ardtornish Estate, staying at Craigendarroch 1. We found it quiet, comfortable and well epuipped. We felt fortunate to benefit from recent improvemts to the cottage, and appreciated the lovely new bathroom, underfloor heating and kitchen. The kitchen is quite small but well equipped. We loved seeing the local wildlife and fantastic stars on a clear night. We found the staff at the Estate Office very friendly and helpful.

I came to stay in Craigendarroch 1 for a week with a mate of mine - to do some fishing and relax. I have to say, in terms of value for money, this cottage is wonderful - it's been well kept, very confortable, clean, the kitchen well provided for - I can't say anymore. The senary is fabulous, the walks by the river great - shame, we came during the recent heatwave which mean't fishing wasn't at its best, but that can't be helped :-). All in all, I would really recommend Craigendarroch 1 as lovely base to stay - as for me, I will be definately be rebooking for the same week, next year. Thank you to Ardtornish Estate for a wonderful stay.

It's 24 years since our last stay at Ardtornish estate and it's lost none of its magic. We've had a great week watching the otters and magnificent white tailed sea eagles...in fact the best we have ever had. The addition of a Hide since we last visited was brilliant. Thank you.

Our second stay on the Estate (and not our last, as we have booked for next year already). This is a secluded, peaceful, stunningly beautiful part of Scotland. Not a place you come across by accident, it is at the end of the Morwen penninsula, but that's its appeal. The cottages are old estate workers homes which are very well renovated & maintained, with all you need and more. Dog friendly, this is a paradise for long dog walks. If you wish to venture further afield, the ferry to Mull is just 4 miles away and the roads to Fort William or Glencoe are easily accessible.

We have fished the estate but not stayed there before so were not sure about the state of the cottage. It has a new kitchen and bathroom and the rooms were comfortable. Minor issues were 1) wifi was not strong and relied on the router in the adjacent cottage, it should have its own router, 2) no rubbish coloured bags for recycling 3) new light bulb required 4) No ice cube tray in the freezer ( essential for gin and tonic). All points (except 1 not reported) promptly resolved. A mat for the bath is an idea as the bath can be a bit slippy if having a shower.

All staff we met were friendly and helpful, the fishing was much as expected but the boat on the big loch needs some attention as the bilge pump was broken. Bailers and new oars are needed in our opinion. The cottage being next to the river is very convenient.

The positives outweigh the minor negatives. We would return.

I always love staying in Craig 1. Not that there's a bad place to stay in Ardtornish at all, and I've stayed in most of them. Like the modifications to the place too; nice bathroom and kitchen. But the essence of the place is what matters; up the lane, next to the river; quiet and tranquil and lovely. We saw sea-eagles hunting on Tearnait, Golden eagles, many geese, many deer. The loch fishing was superb. Didn't raise a salmon in the Glaggan, but heigh ho. We'll be back as soon as live allows.

We definitely needed a holiday, and our stay there was perfect. A quiet corner of the world, but next to a river where we saw an otter and had a visiting pine marten, and being able to walk through the fascinating corners of the estate garden and along coastal footpaths. Preferably also bring a bicycle and have an expedition along the coast to Drimnin, or across the ferry and to the west of Mull. The house was comfortable and well equipped, with viewsI down the valley. Thanks.

Our idyllic stay on the Ardtornish Estate was the the most wonderful experience, from the sea eagles' display on the hillside to pine martens feeding on our window cill. Everyone on the Estate was so friendly and welcoming, helping us to explore beautiful walks and spectacular views. Our cottage was lovely and cosy with a log burner to keep us warm as we relaxed in the evening after our exploring during the day. We will be back at the earliest opportunity and can't stop recommending this Estate to our friends and relatives. Just fabulous!!

We had a lovely stay at Craigendarroch 1. The semidetached cottage is located up a long gravel road with views of Kinlochaline Castle in the distance. It feels very private and was exceptionally well equipped Easy access to the Isle of Mull and we spend two days exploring the Isle. Would highly recommend the cottages on the Ardtornish Estate. Be sure to give your self at least a day to explore the surrounding area if not more.

If we had a minor gripe it would be the internet connection speed was very slow via BT, not something the estate can change. 4G mobile connection was available. While getting away from it all includes the internet it is surprising how entwined this service is in our day to day lives, communicating with friends and our our consumption of news and media.

We first stayed here over 30 years ago. We have always enjoyed it here as the surroundings are just what we love. Peaceful with a view of Mull in the distance and a river running by. We were amazed at the interior transformation this year. Completely refurbished to the highest standard. It is a joy to simply stay indoors if the weather is bad! Well done Ardtornish!!

We booked this accommodation as part of the our daughter’s wedding package. All our guests had nothing but the highest praise for all the accommodations. Words used to describe the cottages were cosy, inviting, clean and comfortable, many with breathtaking views. The apartments in the house were absolutely fabulous. They were filled with Victorian charm and grandeur but at the same time were inviting and comfortable, we couldn’t have asked for anything better. Everyone had one of the most memorable and enjoyable weekends ever, from the beautiful walks on the estate to the sumptuous wedding festivities that took place in the hall of Ardtornish House. It was perfection!

We had a what I can only describe as the most wonderful Christmas and New Year retreat . Peace , Quiet and Solitude an
escape from the hustle and bustle of the Festive Season and everyday life . After an epic journey of 13 hours , driving nearly 400 miles , 2 Ferry crossings , in the most appalling weather , gales and heavy rain we arrived at the property at 7.30 pm .
At the end of our arduous journey a welcoming site greeted us , on opening the door and we found a warm cosy comfortable cottage , on the table was an array of edible treats plus a bottle of wine we immediately felt at home . We soon had the Log Burner lit , a nice hot meal and settled down to enjoy our 2 week Holiday . The following morning after breakfast we had a visit from a member of staff Kathryn, (Tourist Manager ) to check to see if we had all that we needed and to wish us a good stay on the Estate. We had a great time lots of walking , rides out in the car including more ferry trips , the weather was very mild for the time of year we had some lovely sunny days . It will be a Holiday we will all remember and a place we would love to return to again one day .

Craigendarroch is one of the traditional stone properties on the estate and occupies a lovely spot next to the river at the end of the track. Whilst it would benefit from a bit of modernization every thing work well, the cooker, shower and log burner all do what they are there for and it is a comfortable place for a break. We had a lovely family holiday there, it is an ideal spot for both children and dogs.

Ardtornish is a wonderful place and the cottage is in a great spot on the estate with excellent views to the castle and access to the river. Our impression was that Craigendarroch 1 could do with a little bit of an upgrade internally and externally such as painting the eaves woodwork and addressing the vegetation growing out of the chimneys etc. The cottage was well equipped, very clean with good bed linen and towels so no major issues. We have stayed in similarly priced accommodation that was of a higher standard but it is difficult to find a location as perfect as Ardtornish for a west coast break.

The cottage is in a lovely, quiet, location, and was really cosy and warm. It was lovely to stay in, and the ardtornish estate is really special.

I would definitely come back and am already planning my next visit!

The only thing I would suggest needed improving was that the oven didn't really work which made cooking quite hard work. Only three out of four hobs worked and the oven itself didn't really work at all. It heated up initially but then didn't stay hot and we weren't able to use it.

Other than that, everything was really lovely.

First time in one of the cottages. Craigdarroch was very cosy, just enough for the 3 of us, with added Ardtornish features! We enjoyed watching for the pine marten and the bats flying out in the evening.
A great place to relax and truly get away from it all. To take time to savour the natural surroundings from the oak woods next to the cottage to the loch side a few minutes away. My son especially loved the tree swing next to the cottage, a lovely touch!

I have been coming for 30 odd years and I love the place and everyone around, but the bathroom is still below standard
compared with other places. We tried hard to get the toilet clean but it needed something stronger than I would like I would
like to use. No cleaning materials for bathroom or kitchen or washing up. Many items missing from the kitchen - there
use to be a lovely stainless steel rack for hot dishes. Now I know the previous guests left an awful mess so I do not
want to criticise the team but attention to detail is so important and as I come every year I want it to be good for everyone
and not to have to make excuses to my guests.
The White House and the food they provided for us in the cottage was perfection!
I shall still come back and keep hoping!!!!

Cosy, clean and comfortable; a perfect base for exploring the dramatic west coast. Ardtornish has something for everyone and something new to show you on each visit.

It is extra nice to stay a few days in a place that you have just to yourselves and you can totally relax, especially when the fire is burning brightly and you have a glass of wine in hand. The location was an excellent starting point for exploring the area, both on the mainland and over to the Isle of Mull and Iona.

This is a fantastic location for wildlife - a resident pine marten and otters regularly sighted in the loch. There are also some great walks from the door of the cottage, but the fishing on the estate has been the real highlight for one of us. The cottage is well equipped and very comfortable with a nice welcome pack on arrival. Two slight niggles are the shower which is difficult to adjust, and the erratic internet connection, but I understand that improvements are on the way. All the staff are very friendly and helpful, and this year we had the bonus of seeing two Edinburgh fringe shows performed in Ardtornish House. Looking forward to our next visit.

We had a wonderful week! The cottage was wonderful, in a great location. The area was beautiful, the village was nice, the trips to Mull bliss. All in all, we had a great time!

Only problem is the potholes in the track leading to the cottage. it is about 150 yards long and is full of deep potholes, and when it is raining you cannot tell how deep each pothole is and it is very worrying. It makes me reluctant to move the car once it has got to the cottage!

Hello Eleanor, Many thanks for taking the time to review the property. I am delighted to advise you that since your visit, repairs have been made to the entire road that leads down to both Rose cottage and Craigendarroch 1 and 2. Not a pothole in sight!

We have stayed at Craigendarroch many times before from when the children were at school. I think that this might say a lot about the Ardtornish Estate that we keep coming back.
