Hiding in the centre of the village, this 1920s cottage is a two minute walk to the beach. Summerlaize brims with yesteryear character and painstakingly retains many of its original features. It has a devoted base of guests who return year after year for its nostalgic charm and location.

This holiday bungalow is lovely and spacious, with tons of character. It is just 5 minutes walk from East Wittering shops and the beach, yet it feels quiet and peaceful. We found the place very clean and well maintained. The kitchen has everything you'll need. There's a big garden and a large covered porch area, perfect for outside dining out on a sunny evening. The only downsides are the lack of a modern shower and no WiFi so we had to manage with phone hotspots etc.

This was our first stay at Summerlaize. It's a lovely older house with lots of character in the heart of East Wittering, but close to the beach. We enjoyed our stay, but we had trouble with a few things:
1. The electric hob in the kitchen, which I figured out with trial and error eventually. Also if tall, watch your head on the extractor fan!
2. The very old room thermostat in the inner hall, which you had to set to a higher temperature to 'click on' and the CH/HW control. As it turned quite cold during our stay, I had to enlist the help of Baileys to set it up properly. Once working it was great!
3. No internet and very patchy mobile data - Whilst I personally can live without internet, this was a major issue for my young daughter. I know that no internet was listed in the holiday particulars, but sadly this has put my daughter off returning there in the future, which is a great pity. We spent a lot of time visiting the Boulevard Cafe, which has internet!
4. The entrance is very tight into the driveway, with concrete pillars either side, so you need to be very careful when reversing in.
5. Whilst there is a lovely garden surrounding the property, it isn't very well looked after, so I'm sure is underused, which is a pity.
I personally think that a small welcome pack from the owners would be useful, to introduce the house and its little quirks.
Being in my 60's I really loved staying there. It was very quiet and the kitchen in particular brought back many memories.
Summerlaize in my opinion doesn't need updating, but just tweaking, to make it the perfect holiday getaway for the family.

perfect position,a little dated and lacks some extras,but its good value.

Good bits:
Interesting house in a quiet location convenient for local amenities.
Large private garden
Plenty of maps/leaflets

Bad bits:
Had to open all the windows in the house on arrival as it smelt very musty.
We all struggled with the shower, either scalding or cold. It also fell on my head and wouldn't stay up. No good if you need to scrub sun cream off each day.
It generally needs a deep clean - Settee Stained, oven shelves ok but the rest is dirty.
Parking is really for one car - to get further down the drive you need to scrape through the hedging or else you can't get out.
Garden is unkept - overgrown untidy borders and the grass wasn't cut.

General comments -
Limited garden furniture. Would be nice to have some in the back where the garden is (assuming the grass was cut). Garden could have been a real gem
Limited supplies e.g tin foil, loo roll, salt&pepper -1 loo roll for 6 people is a bit tight! Fair enough if you don't want to provide many supplies or be fancy, but if you go that route, it has to be clean/working.

Summerlaize is clean and tidy and is situated in the village, close to the shops, but a little further to the beach.

We love this house and have visited serval times. It reminds us of visits to granparents in the past.

Would be nice to have a slightly better shower that wasnt freezing or boiling hot.

The property was ideally placed for beach and town.
Although dated we had everything we needed and the property was generally clean and tidy.
Be aware there is only really parking for 1 car.
The one main gripe would be the shower ! it just didnt work,coming back from the beach with 4 people wanting a shower and having to wait for a bath was no good.
The property would also benefit from better garden furniture(table & chairs).
Having said all that we thoroughly enjoyed the stay.

This is the most delightful bungalow near the sea you could wish for. Highly recommended for anyone wanting a quiet, comfortable, and unique setting that is only a short walk from the sea, or stay where you are and sit in the beautiful garden. All in all, a wonderful treat of holiday accommodation.

We loved the location and the “quirkiness” of the house. Great private garden.

There were very limited number of windows that opened in the house which made it very difficult to air the house. When we arrived the house smelt musty which was very difficult to get rid of.

There is a hand held shower - the owners are wasting a lot of money on hot water while people attempt to get the temperature right for the shower and a lot of water wasted. The shower would not stay on the wall. An electric shower would probably pay for itself quickly.

The carpet in the double bedroom needs to be cleaned - I do not mind an old carpet but did not like a dirty one.

The settee would benefit from a deep clean.

We really liked Summerlaize, it is full of character and we liked the fact that there were many of the original features and also that it didnt have wifi!! The kitchen was really spacious and nice to cook in and the verandha was our favourite spot.
Whilst we enjoyed the original features, we cannot say that of the matresses on the beds which are very very uncomfortable and need replacing (or add a topper mattress).
The back garden is potentially a really nice space but a bit more upkeep would make it much nicer (instead of dead plants and shrubs), we planted some geraniums etc. in the planters in the front and it made such a difference!. Also the garden furniture is terrible and needs replacing as well.

House was OK but a bit dated. The kitchen and bathroom were not very clean. The shower in bathroom needs replacing as it was very difficult to adjust to a decent temperature. Very difficult to park car on drive.
