for my taste, there could be less decorative stuff on the ground floor and it could be a bit emptier so that you have more space;
I would also like the drawing room to be emptier and more open
Peace and serenity

This was our 2nd visit to Grouse Hall and we love it... Its a very peaceful and beautiful place, where you can just relax and chill or choose to wander the hills and dales to your hearts content. Great spot for stargazing too.

An old stone cottage, beautifully modernised, away from it all, surrounded by sheep and birds. Everything is high quality and comfortable, well heated. There is lots of space throughout, with a porch for outdoor stuff plus a large utility area. Perfect for exploring the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. We would love to return.
A very happy anniversary.

Wow., Perfect., Such a lovely cottage with homely but modern interiors, and plenty of space for two couples and their cars to spend their joint anniversaries. We especially liked the large boot/utility area for soggy walking kit, as it inevitably rained a lot while we were there. Just what scabble and a glass of wine infront of the fire was invented for. But when the sun came out it was so worth it, the views are amazing. Would love to visit in the summer to fully appreciate. You feel remote and at one with the dales, yet have access to so many places to visit, villages, towns, waterfalls, castles all encased in a beautiful landscape... bliss. PS. there are some fantastic pubs to discover amongst them hills... hint: head up to Ravenstondale for a few or a pit stop at the Tan Hill, not to be missed.
Wonderful Holiday

Grouse Hall has been lovingly restored. Very modern vibe but keeping lots of original character with everything you need for a weeks stay. Comfy, quiet and fantastic views. This was a great base for our party being near to Garsdale Station so we could use the excellent train service for a lot of our day trips. A thoughtful welcome pack was waiting when we arrived (tea, milk & wine!) and we experienced no problems. Highly recommended

We love this place and returned for the third time this July. It is so quiet and peaceful and has everything you need. The kitchen and the en-suite bathrooms are all modern, clean and well equipped. Two lounges make it perfect for a couple sharing and the bedrooms are at either end of the house, which gives you privacy. The decor is well thought out and heating is automatic with a Nest controller.
The location is great, halfway between Sedbergh and Hawes with so many walks nearby it is difficulty to choose. Curlews calling in the fields around were special too. The garden is small but there is a patio for when the weather is kind.
If I had to make a plea, it would be for a lightweight duvets for the summer months - it was pretty hot - and a few more coat hangers in the bedrooms: five ain't enough!
Peace and quiet in a stunning location.

This is a beautiful conversion of 3 terraced cottages into a luxurious holiday dwelling The rooms are light, airy and spacious. The beds are very comfortable and all rooms have lovely views. As has been mentioned in earlier reviews, we did miss having a wardrobe - a few wall hooks with coathangers are not really enough for a week's holiday. Chests of drawers are provided, but for one of the bedrooms, is located on the landing outside the room. We hadn't realised on booking that there were two living rooms: the main lounge area is part of the enormous kitchen diner but there is also a second "snug" at the far end of the cottage with its own TV. Both rooms offer satellite TV but, when we were there, live tv was only available in the snug. The wifi is very good. The kitchen is well designed with excellent appliances and is pretty well equipped - although we were a little disappointed not to find a potato peeler, tall tumblers, or a frying pan large enough to cook for 3.
The cottage looks out onto the Settle-Carlisle railway and Garsdale Station is within easy walking distance (although it is also free to park at the station). There are numerous walks in the area and the birdlife is wonderful. We watched a pair of kestrel perching on the wall outside the cottage and saw scores of lapwing and oystercatchers. Squirrels are also very easily spotted opposite Baugh Fell View cottage on the station road. Although the guidance suggests there is parking for two small cars, we were able to park a VW Tiguan and an Audi S3 with no difficulty.
Sedbergh golf course is a delight and we enjoyed a lovely meal at The Black Bull (also Sedbergh) although we felt it (like everything) had become more expensive over the past year.
The absence of a few kitchen accessories and coathangers are minor niggles, but for a cottage of this quality, surprising and easily rectified. But we had a wonderful week; we loved the cottage, the location, and the area. We will be back.
Love, love, loved it!

From the very moment Nick and l walked into Grouse Cottage we were thrilled. Not only did the magical location take our breath away the cottage itself was a delight. We thoroughly enjoyed the standard of accomodation including the high standard of cleanliness and comfort provided. The clever combination of the reconstructed original cottage with an exceptional renovation created a warm and cosy environment. We especially loved the open plan living living/dining/kitchen space with its beautiful stone floors and feature walls. The views captured what the Yorkshire Dales are really all about. Nick and l did not want to leave and l can honestly say it would have to be one of the best holiday experiences we have had.

We thoroughly enjoyed our second stay at Grouse Hall. We love the peace, quiet and privacy. The setting of the house is perfect for us and it is well equipped, warm and comfortable. Whilst it is remote it is easily accessible by car and its location on the border between Cumbria and the Yorkshire Dales gives you plenty of scope for places to visit. As both of our stays were for 2 weeks an improvement for us would be the addition of wardrobes rather than just having a hanging rack on the wall in each bedroom. There is also a chest of drawers for each room. We were sad to leave but we left feeling very relaxed. We will miss the calls of the curlews and grouse on the surrounding moor and we hope to return again.

Grouse Hall is a beautiful property. Modern, clean and the layout suited our visit perfectly. We particularly loved the open plan aspect of the property and the fire in the kitchen/dining/sitting area kept us very toasty! The views are amazing and in a great position for visiting other towns/villages nearby. We did a lovely round walk from the property. Would highly recommend.

We had a great week to celebrate my birthday/halloween in this fabulous cosy cottage. Loved the open plan living space and cooking facilities. Made the most of the woodburning stove reading and doing a jigsaw when the weather was wet. Enjoyed exploring both Hawes and Sedburgh nearby - had great walks to Hardraw Force Falls and over the Howgill Fells. Farfield Mill was also worth the visit.
It is a bit of a remote location so you do need a car but a great spot for re-charging the batteries and getting away from it all
Many thanks

Grouse Hall is a wonderful place to spend a 2 week holiday. The remote setting, with great views from every window, was perfect for us. The peace and quiet with virtually no passing traffic was a real tonic. The house is very well maintained. It was well insulated and cosy with the central heating and log burners. The furniture is comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped. The large entrance and utility area is very useful with lots of space for outdoor gear. The stars were amazing in the dark skies and when sitting out on the patio one night a barn owl flew silently past us, it was amazing. We could also hear other owls calling in the valley. The sheep and rabbits kept us entertained and we enjoyed watching passing birds of prey. The Carlisle to Settle railway is on the far side of the valley and we saw a steam train one day which was a bonus. Despite the remoteness you are half way between Sedbergh and Hawes with gives you plenty of scope for shops, pubs and restaurants although you will have to drive. The only improvement for us would be to have had a wardrobe and more coat hangers, with some storage for bags, particularly when staying for 2 weeks. We would not hesitate to return to Grouse Hall. Thank you to the owners and to Mill House Cottages, a great company. Thanks also to the housekeeping team for looking after things so well.
A beautiful property in a fabulous location.

We spent a fantastic weekend at Grouse Hall. The weather was beautiful and it was a real treat to wake up to the wonderful views across the valley. The cottage is located just half a mile from the main road and feels very private yet is an easy trip to nearby Hawes and Sedburgh. The house is well equipped and provided all the luxury we could have wanted including fabulously comfy beds and well appointed kitchen and bathrooms. We look forward to returning and definitely recommend Grouse Hall.

We had a really wonderful week in Grouse Hall and the directions to find the cottage were clear and easy to follow.
The cottage is nestled into the Dales and you wake up to beautiful scenery and the sounds of the Curlews calling, it is a really peaceful retreat surrounded by the rolling Dales which are beautiful.
Grouse Hall was a delight to stay in and was very tastefully decorated and furnished and after a day out walking and exploring it was a treat to come back to a warm, comfortable and well equipped cottage.
(The wood burners were a welcome source of heat and added to the ambience of the cottage and were easy to use )
There are many beautiful places to visit that are an easy distance from the cottage both in the Dales and the Lake District and so we were able to explore both and enjoyed the contrasting countryside.
We had an amazing meal in the Black Bull in Sedbergh, this was one of the recommended restaurants, thank you.
I would definitely recommend Grouse Hall as a luxury cottage to stay in if you are visiting the Dales.
Thank you to Julie and Stephen.

In what feels like a real 'away from it all' location yet only half a mile from the main road, this fantastic cottage is beautifully furnished, clean and also lovely and warm on colder days. Situated in a very quiet lane with outstanding views, yet only 15-20 minutes from Sedbergh and Hawes it really is the perfect base for exploring the Dales.

Grouse Hall is one of the best designed and comfortable interiors one could wish for. It is located high up on Grisedale on a lonely road which places you right in the heart of this secluded moor. Although you will want to explore, you will also want to spend lots of time indoors relaxing. It is the perfect vantage point from which to view the many changing faces of the surrounding moorland. It is so peaceful.

What a beautifully renovated cottage. Very peaceful with uninterrupted views across the Dales.
Extremely well equipped; the only thing missing was a clothes airer which would have been useful for drying clothes. Also, not sure it was necessary to leave all the lights on for our arrival.
So glad we picked it and would happily recommend it to others.

Beautiful cottage. Much bigger than we expected it was going to be. Had everything we needed and access etc was easy. Fittings etc all really nicely done. Wifi good. Beds super comfy. Welcome hamper was a really nice touch. Location was beautiful but be prepared to drive around - although we did find plenty to do around the area and enough to entertain a 5 year old. It would be nice to add a hot tub and there was certainly space for it outside. We were really impressed with the cottage and I would definitely book another mill house cottage. Highly recommend. Thank you for a wonderful break.

We had a wonderful stay at Grouse Hall on one of the sunniest weeks of the year. The cottage , particularly the kitchen, was very well equipped and had plenty of space for 4 people. Everything in the cottage was of the highest quality - the beds were very comfortable and the showers were powerful. We loved sitting on the terrace on an evening with a glass of wine, just looking at the view and watching the sheep in the field next to the cottage.

Was in two minds as to whether or not I should write a review as I couldn’t fault our stay, and quite like the idea that nobody else knows about it!! Want it all to myself!!
Beautiful cottage in amazing location! Set by itself, it is very quiet. There is a fabulous view out of every window of Garsdale. I felt as though no one else had stayed there, that it was my special place. Very well done to the owners for keeping in such good condition and to such a high standard. Lots of space; two sitting areas, three bathrooms, extra toilet, porch and utility area. Absolutely loved it!!

Grouse hall is located on a very quiet road- the views from the property are stunning and all you can hear are sheep. The property is excellent- the beds are 5 star luxury. Fantastic wood burner which made the evenings warm and cosy. The kitchen is very well equipped.
Short drive to Hawes or Sedburgh provides beautiful walks, waterfalls and delicious pub food. There are some walks from the property but best to drive out.
Weather was superb which was lucky for us- this meant the only downside we found was the garden furniture which was needing some treatment or cushions and maybe a little more comfort? Luckily we had our garden chairs with us so we sat outside using those.
Grouse hall is one of the best properties we have stayed in a d it is in a beautiful part of the country- if you like peace and getting away from it all then this is the place to recharge your batteries!!
Would have liked to move in!

This place was spotless and had every comfort you could wish for. Freshly refurbished and decorated with everything brand new. Plenty of space for 2 couples wanting to share with the king sized beds. Nice boot room area and cloakroom for muddy walkers. Two living areas which are both cosy. Central heating was automatic and worked a treat as did the log burners. Might need a degree to operate the ovens/hob as they were so modern but we managed! All in all a lovely house in a great location.

Grouse Hall was as stunning as the views. It was cosy, beautifully presented and decorated . The facilities were well thought out and nothing lacking. Everything was of the highest quality which made for a luxurious and comfortable stay. We particularly liked cooking in the high speck kitchen. The location was breathtaking, we never tired of the views. The icing on the cake was star gazing at night. Totally awesome. We booked a 4 day getaway at Grouse Hall. Unfortunately we picked a very, very stormy weekend! However, Grouse Hall was warm and inviting when we arrived. It's a beautiful cottage, just as the pictures show on the website. The beds are super comfy with wonderful linens; the towels were soft and fluffy and plentiful. The cottage has been renovated and decorated to a very high standard. The views were spectacular. Due to the weather we weren't able to get out and about as much as we would have liked, but spent some cozy times in the cottage. It was a little more remote than I anticipated - but that was my fault, I didn't read the website info correctly and although initially it made me uneasy (particularly when it snowed the first night and I thought our car might get stuck), we soon adjusted and I would definitely love to return to this wonderful property. Highly recommend.
The only minor issue was the oven/microwave.... the manual said it was a combi-oven, but for the life of us, we could not figure out how to make it work as a microwave!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Grouse Hall and would highly recommend. The property is located in an absolutely stunning position overlooking the Garsdale valley and is furnished and decorated to a very high standard and suited our needs perfectly.
It is a walkers and cyclists paradise and there are brilliant bird watching opportunities.
