We booked Lower Wood Farm on the recommendation of family member and will now be recommending it to our friends. We were warmly welcomed on arrival and given all the information we would need. The accommodation itself is excellent. It was spacious and spotless with everything we needed for our week’s stay. The setting is beautiful and immaculately kept. The small group of individual cottages are in a rural area of Norfolk and have easy access to many different attractions. We were also near to the Broads and the beach. There is an imaginative outdoor play area for children, a swimming pool and a well equipped play barn for families. Our children loved the variety of games and the outdoor play area. I cannot recommend this accommodation highly enough.

3 generations stayed in 2 cottages at Lower Wood Farm. We stayed at New Year. This review relates to the Appleloft. This 2 storey accommodation was comfortable, clean, well equipped and warm.
The location is good - close to Great Yarmouth and other seaside towns and villages.
The on-site facilities were excellent. The children loved the play barn and the adults enjoyed table tennis and snooker. I didn't use the swimming pool but other family members did and liked the booking arrangements and the pool itself.
The staff at Lower Wood Farm were friendly and helpful.
I recommend the Appleloft.

Great place, we have stayed at the farm for a number of years now, we do like to move around different cottages, each one for a different stage of our family life, the Appleloft this year is our second year in this cottage, loved it again, great facilities, wonderful relaxing lounge, with smart TV. Love the individual swimming pool slots, so we have our own family hour each day, the kids love the outside play area and play barn, a perfect UK family holiday for all ages.

We stayed here with family and had the most amazing time. Appleloft was great the place was spotless it had everything we needed. Lower wood Farm has everything a fmaily could need. The playroom was amazing I have a one year old, seven year old and a ten year old and there was something for all. The swimming pool was great the children really enjoyed it and the booking system for the pool really worked.
The location of lower wood farm is great for exploring the area.
We enjoyed our stay so much we’re hoping to return next year.

Just like to say what a wonderful holiday we have just had in Appleloft Cottage, so clean and spacious it was a joy.

Have stayed at other properties in the area but this beats them all.

Jill and Rory treat everyone like royalty , nothing is to to much , so put your feet up and relax in the county air.

Had an amazing stay at lowerwood farm. Jill was friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Had arranged a birthday balloon and banner for our arrival as well as a yummy cake. Our cottage was warm and comfortable with beautiful aesthetics. Games room had everything to suit the needs of our 3,8 and 12 year old and we took advantage of private sessions in the swimming pool which was warm and clean. We will return soon.

We stayed at the Appleloft over Christmas and were delighted to find a lovely afternoon tea and presents under the tree, when we arrived.
The place is very well equipped with everything you could need. The kitchen had plenty of equipment, which made preparing Christmas Dinner much less stressful.
Rooms were comfortable and warm.
The shared facilities - play barn and pool - are excellent. There were still bookable hour-long private slots for the pool, which worked really well. Having the pool to ourselves was lovely, but also the kids couldn't argue when it was time to get out!
Our kids were 11, 12 and 13. They loved the play barn, pool and play hut in the garden. But the Play Barn is packed with toys and activities for younger kids too. There is even a dressing up box!
If you're looking for days out, there isn't an enormous amount to do in the area over the winter. Most tourist attractions seem to close down in October and open in March. But if you enjoy bird watching and country walks this is the place. In the play barn there are also plenty of leaflets about things to do and walking maps that you can borrow.
Overall we were delighted with our stay and would recommend it for families of all ages.

Cosy home from home accommodation with everything you need and more.
Wonderful afternoon tea and table beautifully set was a pleasant surprise on arrival. Superbly furnished and equipped.
Indoor swimming pool, lovely and clean and loved having it to ourselves.
Play barn was an added bonus with pool table, table football and table tennis.
Grounds immaculately kept and gas bbq provided too. The Hosts really have thought of everything. Thanks for a great weekend.

Lower Wood Farm is a lovely place to stay. There were 15 in our party and I heard no complaints from anyone. The worst thing about the Appleloft is that its a bit dark upstairs in the kitchen/lounge area but lighting was adequate and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

A big thank you to Jill and family once again for an amazing stay, this time in, The Appleloft. The decor is lovely and facilities brilliant both inside the cottage and outside in the play areas, our two children of 10 and 14 had lots of fun with all of the sports equipment, badminton, tennis, pool, table tennis, we’ll be back next year, loved it. Lower Wood Farm is a fabulous place to spend a few days or longer. We stayed for a long weekend and only went out for a couple of hours as there is so much to do. Our grandchildren loved having the swimming pool to themselves (with their parents obviously) and adored everything in the play barn. Their ages range from 2 to 10 and there was plenty to entertain them all, including a number of different sized bikes for riding safely around the grounds. Applecroft is a great upside down cottage with wonderful views from the kitchen window. The kitchen is very well equipped and the lounge area comfy. The en suite in the main bedroom is extremely swish! It was a perfect house for our needs of Nannie and Grandad with son, daughter-in-law ad 2 granddaughters. I would thoroughly recommend a stay at Lower Wood Farm.

We visited with three families for my Mums 70th- it was perfect. There was something for all the children 4-13 and everything had been considered. The swimming pool was a real treat and made the holiday. The barns are at the end of a rural farm road and so the barns were peaceful and very safe. We were able to walk daily to the local farm past the new lambs to buy coffee or fresh milkshakes which was a highlight and a treat when coming back from seeing the seals and the gorgeous beaches!

From the moment we arrived we loved this place. The property was immaculate and so beautifully decorated and kitted out. Everything we needed for a comfortable stay was provided.

The showers were hot and powerful and the rooms were huge and comfortable!

The children’s facilities are what really sets this apart. Huge gardens complete with football nets, outdoor play areas and play houses, bikes and outdoor games and then a HUGE play barn for all ages - the photos really don’t do this bit justice.

And the indoor swimming pool, which we could book for an hour each day all to ourselves was just perfect…. And warm!

We will definitely be back and will be recommending this to our friends.

It’s really a hidden gem and we had the most amazing weekend - enjoying the beach only 10 mins away and also this little haven to come back to.

Lower Wood Farm was a real find. Lovely cottage, amazing pool and facilities! So much for the kids to do and really well considered family accommodation. We stayed in the Appleloft and it was great for our family of four although we had 3 bedrooms so could have easily slept 6.

The pool is a wonderful respite if the weather isn’t great. The indoor play and outdoor facilities are great for young kids too.

The Appleloft on Lower Wood farm was very comfortable, clean and well equipped. The other facilities onsite were also a really good addition to the stay, the pool was lovely and the play areas both inside and outside were great for the kids. The location is easy to find and is well placed for getting to a number of attractions in Norfolk. I would thoroughly recommend Lower Wood farm for a family stay.

What a stunning place to stay with the family. The facilities are exceptional, the play barn is like walking into Hamleys!
Swimming pool great and plenty warm enough even in winter. Great location close to stunning beaches and countryside.
Thoroughly recommend.

PS - Would love to have access to either a Sauna or Jacuzzi at some point in the future if you guys are looking for any recommendations on things you could add in future :)

We did a last minute short stay at Appleloft in mid-October and what a stay it was.
We thoroughly enjoyed private use of the pool, shared use of the other facilities- which my son (& husband) enjoyed!
Very relaxing and good location to explore the surrounding area, impeccable cleaning. The place was immaculate.

We absolutely loved our stay at Lower Wood Farm in the Apple barn. It was incredibly well thought out for families and we had absolutely everything we needed, comfy beds, good size TV, fast Internet, fully equipped kitchen, cot, stair gate, even a nappy changing mat. The swimming pool was brilliant with private hour long slots daily and the lawn and play barn kept our toddler so happy. The gardens are also absolutely beautiful and loved the bbq facilities. There are also so many fun local activities, and the nearby farm shop is excellent. Highly recommended, I'm sure we'll be back!

This was our fifth visit to Lower Wood Farm with our thee grandsons. For the last two years we've stayed in The Appleloft. The cottage was clean, tidy and fully equipped for a self catering holiday.

The site is immaculate and well maintained. We made full use of the swimming pool, play barn and other facilities to the degree that the boys didn’t want to leave the site! This is a problem we have, they just don’t want to go off the site.

We had yet another amazing holiday. Full credit to Jill and her helpful team.
Highly recommended. We've already booked for next year.

Beautiful barn conversion, exceptionally clean and well maintained facilities throughout. Really well thought out with little touches that make a big difference. Such as children's plates/ bowels, sharp knives, plenty of dish washer tablets. Add in the fantastic pool, play barn and outdoor equipment and this is the perfect getaway for families with children. We had booked to go on a family holiday to Spain booked in early 2020. However due to the pandemic we were unable to go on our originally planned holiday. Therefore we looked to have our first bit of time away in over a year a bit closer to home!

We booked Lower Wood Farm and couldn't have been happier with our choice. The Appleloft where we stayed was immaculately clean on our arrival. The swimming pool area was perfect and even the outdoor garden areas were highly maintained. Often when you visit somewhere there are areas that you could fault. I can honestly say that is not the case here. We loved our stay at Lower Wood Farm and will most certainly be returning in the future.

The children loved the pool, the animals, watching the cows being milked at Upper Wood Farm, the play area and gardens. Even having the option to just pick up a bike and go for a ride up the track. Small details make for a happy and comfortable stay.

We will definitely return and shall also recommend Lower Wood Farm to family and friends looking for a place to go for a break that isn't too far from home!

We had a great stay - the cottage was lovely - clean, warm, comfortable and close enough to the beach, shops and restaurants while feeling really safe and private. The pool was fab - we loved having it to ourselves in our timed slots. Jill also brought us some toys from the play barn (closed due to covid rules atm) which was much appreciated. Being able to charge our electric car on site was a huge bonus. We would recommend and definitely return! Thanks Jill!

Our second stay at Lower Wood and despite some unavoidable changes due to Covid we still really enjoyed our time. Pool facility lovely, comfy beds, well equipped kitchen. Kids enjoyed the play area but were sad not to get to use the fantastic playbarn. Warning to those with younger kids the upstairs living space is open plan to downstairs so we did have an issue with grandad needing tv volume high but young child unable to sleep due to noise! So if we returned we’d pick the more traditional lay out options of cottage - otherwise a great place.

We have just returned from our fourth holiday at Lower Wood Farm.

Lower Wood Farm is situated at the end of a really long good quality country lane in the middle of nowhere in the peaceful Norfolk countryside. But close enough to access nearby Caister on Sea and a number of beaches just a short drive away.

In the past we stayed in Russet but this year in the Appleloft. Once again we brought our three grandsons with us, now aged 6, 9 & 11.

This year Coviod19 was an overriding issue and safety precautions were in place with a strict regime of cleaning and hygiene control. There was hand sanitiser on all external doors and the play barn closed.

Our cottage, The Appleloft, was lovely and the level of cleanliness was unbeatable. The Appleloft is an upside down cottage with the living area upstairs and the sleeping area downstairs. The cottage is decorated to a high standard and the beds were very comfortable The en-suite was very roomy and modern with a massive shower area, there is another shower in the family bathroom.

The welcoming afternoon tea after a drive from the Midlands was very thoughtful, and the cakes were beautiful.

The internet connection is excellent, servicing five iPads during our stay.

Outside activities for the boys included bicycles, scooters, mini football pitch, swings, swingball and a large climbing frame. Once again our only problem was to prise the boys away, because they would have gladly spent all day at the farm.

The owner Jill Nicholls, who lives on site was very friendly and could be seen daily around the farm ensuring her guests have a relaxing holiday.

Overall Lower Wood Farm provides premium, spacious family accommodation and a safe complex for children with excellent facilities that never felt crowded or busy.

We had a lovely break and would definitely recommend to others. We’ll be back, in fact we’ve already booked the Appleloft for next year.

Lower Wood Farm is a lovely place to stay. The cottages are very clean and well maintained with all facilities thought of. The location is wonderful for children with hares in nearby fields, an evening walk up to the farm shop and other great things to see along the lane. We have previously stayed on several occasions at the caravan site at Lower Wood Farm and always felt looked after and welcomed. This was our first experience of using one of the holiday properties and it won't be our last.
Jill always offers personal attention to guests and within the accommodation there is attention to detail. This offers a very comfortable, relaxed and friendly environment. Our family enjoyed using the site pool and games room.

We adore Lower Wood Farm and have been there multiple times. Jill is superbly organised and reliable, welcoming and always on hand to help guests. All her cottages are impeccably clean and well maintained, with comfortable bedding, good heating, well equipped kitchens. You can't beat an on-site, warm, clean pool. The play barn, toys and bikes make for such a versatile space for families and allow you to relax and have fun whatever the weather. Jill's cottages are minutes away from lovely beaches, the supermarkets and restaurants at Caister and the beachfront at Yarmouth (with the aquarium for children, fun arcades and all the rest). The value for money is also great, given all the facilities on offer and the level of effort Jill puts into her properties. (Her cakes aren't bad either). Highly recommend.

These "Premier Cottages" are certainly up to standard. We have stayed in 3 different "Premier Cottages" and these are the best so far. Applecroft was lovely and spacious with everything you need for a relaxing holiday. The Pool is very well kept and as it is only used by the few residents on site so it is never crowded..in fact you often have it to yourself.
The Play Barn is immaculate with lots of toys and games for toddlers and a Pool Table, Table Tennis and Bar Football for older kids / adults. Bikes are available for free use.
The grounds are immaculate with some play equipment for the kids, a BBQ area and lots of seating if it is sunny.
Caister is only 2 miles away and has a large Tesco and Lidl. There is a chip shop, but is it only open to 9.30pm. Two Chinese Take-Aways and one Indian. We didn't go in any but there are 2-3 pubs too.
The Farm is located down a nice and quiet country lane so it is very safe for small children.
Best beach we found locally was Winterton-On-Sea...made extra special by seals swimming in the water near the beach!

Everything was exactly as expected (all the top reviews of this place are well deserved.) We loved our stay. As our cottage was connected to another our only concern was noisy neighbours but we didn't hear a thing. Everything is very luxurious and spotlessly clean. All the facilities are well organised and thought through (there are rules about pool use etc but nothing that isn't perfectly reasonable and enhances the experience for everyone using it.) The owners were helpful and on hand without being intrusive. There is lots to do in the area. Can't fault it!

Our second stay, this time in Appleloft. Even better than last year. The level of cleanliness is unbeatable, beds are so comfortable, on arrival the cottage was warm and welcoming. The shower in the ensuite is huge, and there is another shower in the family bathroom. The children enjoyed the play barn, outdoor climbing frame and plentiful bikes and scooters. The pool was the highlight of our stay. Lovely, clean and warm facilities. Even though the farm had a full occupancy during our stay we always managed to have the pool to ourselves (we swam two hours every day). On our final night Jill organised a Halloween special for all the cottages which was a nice touch and the kids had so much fun. Thank you for another amazing stay and we will be back again next year.
Ps the boardwalk through the reeds at Ranworth Broads to the floating visitor centre is worth a visit.

We loved Lower Wood Farm. Great, quiet cottages, very well equipped. Netflix and all the rest for children and for adults to relax. We stayed at Lower Wood over the Christmas break.
On arrival, the key was in the door and the cottage was warm and welcoming. The rooms were lovely and everything looked clean and tidy.
There was a tea tray with tea, coffee, sugar, milk and homemade cakes on the table. A lovely touch after a long journey.
Once settled in, Jill came to introduce herself and show us around the complex.
The swimming pool was lovely, very warm, very clean and of a high standard.
The kids loved the games room, with pool table, table football, table tennis and plenty of toys and games. With the added bonus of toilets within.
The grounds were well kept with a lovely playground and bikes, scooters and ride on toys available.
Our cottage, The Appleloft, was lovely. Upstairs was the living area, and downstairs was the sleeping area. All the bedrooms were decorated to a high standard and the beds were comfy. The bathroom and ensuite were very roomy and modern.
The kitchen had everything we needed and the living room was spacious and cosy.
We had a lovely break and would definitely recommend to others.

Our grandchildren loved this place - plenty for them to do in the Play Barn, outside and in the pool (struggled to get them away from it). Very quiet location but near enough to visitor attractions and larger towns/cities if you need them. Well equipped laundry room. Plenty of towels in the cottage. Friendly owner and staff. Games for teenagers may be a little limited and they may be frustrated at the wifi service but for us it was great as we could keep our grandchildren away from their tablets - service more than adequate to check e-mails.

An excellent holiday venue with lots to do for young grandchildren (heated pool, play barn) and near to the coast for days out and sandcastle building. Probably the best pool we have ever been to for young children as not only is the water heated but the atmosphere is warm too - no shivering little ones!

The grounds are very attractive and well maintained with outdoor toys, swings and slides, and with ponies and sheep in the nearby fields there was plenty to amuse the children.

The house was spotless and well-equipped. Our only wish would have been for feather duvets and pillows and fitted sheets, our personal preference, but this really did not detract from our enjoyment of the holiday.

We loved our time here as did our 2 year old. The cottages are great and brilliantly set up and equipped for kids - they even had a bed guard! But the highlights were definitely the gorgeous indoor pool, amazingly equipped play barn and the play area (with bikes and scooters) - our 2 year old didn't want to leave any of these places.
We would highly recommend staying here with a family and/or a group of you. And whilst the surrounding area isn't the most glamorous there are some brilliant places to take kids and activities to do

The Appleloft or the upside down house as my Grandsons called it, might not suit everyone as the living area is upstairs and bedrooms and bathrooms are downstairs, so a lot of up and down stairs to what we are normally used to, it also meant that we didn't eat outside much as we were to lazy to keep taking things up and down. The bedrooms suit us fine one master bedroom with on suite and plenty of wardrobe space, large TV to one side of the stairs then the other side are two twin bedrooms one has a double wardrobe with two drawers the other a chest of drawers no wardrobe. the shower/toilet room is under the stairs.
I only marked the comfort as Good as he pillow and duvet are not to my liking, but this year I took my own and pushed the single beds together and put our mattress topper on, again this is me been fussy, everything else is excellent
The cottage is well equipped and the play barn has lots of toys for the children to use, there are also bikes and scooters in the garden for guest to use. the side kitchen window offers view over open countryside, this year we watched the farmer using the combined harvester, so interesting for us town folk to witness. their is a nice circular walk from the cottages, shops a short ride away in Caister, we ordered our first shop before we came and had it delivered to the cottage, Caister beach is a short ride away parking 60p an hour.
the internet worked fine it would drop out every so often but just had to reboot

We had a great time at Lower Wood Farm. The children swam every day in the wonderfully warm pool. They enjoyed playing on the play equipment with other children who were staying. The cottage was very well equipped and an easy drive to beaches, Great Yarmouth and many other child friendly attactions such as Bewilderwood.

Having been used to a good standard of accomodation elsewhere we thought Lower Wood farm couldn't exceed our expectations. We were wrong. It has been a most comfortable stay with outstanding facilities for children. Everything seems to have been thought of to make our stay enjoyable. Even the surroundings are immaculately maintained which only adds to the satisfaction of having discovered a real gem. Which is why we are booked for a return visit later in the year.

A lovely cottage with beautiful surroundings. Greeted with tea and cupcakes which made everyone feel very at home and welcome. Wish we could have stayed for longer. Will definitely be coming back!

The cottage was lovely, very clean and had a real home from home feeling, good facilities especially the swimming pool which is lovely warm and the location is just perfect .. So much choice as to what to see and do!
However, a lack of warmth and hospitality from the owner made the difference between coming away having had a great time to wanting to rebook there and then!

Horrible weather didn't hamper our holiday here. We had a fab time, loads to do nearby. Even saw seals of the shoreline at Horsey! Would definitely recommend staying here. The pool is particularly wonderful and always warm!

I chose this holiday for ease of access from the South East and because the setting looked quiet with plenty to explore in the locality. The play barn was a huge plus for child entertainment in wet weather. All ages enjoyed the warm pool. The Appleloft was very well kitted out and comfortable. I can envisage returning to Lower Wood Farm in the future because it worked so well.

Finding accommodation for a family of six with four children aged 5 and under is difficult but when we saw Applecroft cottage at Lower Wood farm it ticked all the boxes and did not disappoint. It was wonderful to have a family holiday in a beautiful environment that felt like a great break for the adults too. The facilities were wonderful from the warm, quiet indoor pool to the play barn kitted out like a toy shop. All the little details were considered too and the children were even given surprise easter cakes after a trip to the beach to watch seals. We would not hesitate to return.

Myself and three of my friends all stayed at lower end farm with our families with a group of children aged between 7months and 14 years.

Positives:
The facilities were excellent and the Appleloft had a very good home from home feel to it, indeed it had everything you'd need for a self catering break. The pool area, play barn and outdoor areas have been well thought out and are great for families.

Negatives:
Being told to make sure we've switched everything off before we leave (including the heating) being told to make sure we've taken our shoes off. Basically having a rule book as thick as the yellow pages and being told how to behave at all is slightly patronising especially when I've paid £500 for a weekend. Despite being a big group and our kids all behaving impeccably having my friends feel humiliated by being told that their 'conduct around camp' wasn't the standard expected was extremely upsetting, especially as no explanation of said conduct was forthcoming. I think the only kind of guests they want, have silent children called Quentin and Rupert and their mummy and daddy drive Range Rovers.

Summary

A lovely place with great facilities which I'd never stay at again.

We have taken this half term holiday every year for about 10 years always renting a cottage to share with our daughter and family. We always look for a complex with a pool and play facilities. For a change and for the first time we came to Norfolk. Wow what a find! Great property in A1 condition, with fantastic thought and investment. Of the type, if Norfolk is where you want to be, this is as good as it gets.

The Appleloft is a fantastic property which is part of the brilliantly maintained and managed Lower Wood Farm. All of the facilites on site were spotlessly clean, the grounds were beautiful and the children especially enjoyed the swimming pool and play barn. Everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay is provided, even a wind break for a trip to the beach!! Jill and her team do a remarkable job and the cakes that welcome you are delicious!

Lower Wood Farm is the perfect place to relax and enjoy being with your family. The location is perfect for lots of local attractions and to also just relax and appreciate your surroundings and being together.
We stayed at The Appleloft and couldn't fault it. It was very clean and had absolutely everything you could need. We loved its upside down quirky living as did our two children.
The play barn, outdoor play facilities and the lovely indoor heated pool were a hit with the children. Would recommend highly and will definitely be returning.
