Built in 1835 to defend Jersey’s coast against French attack, Lewis's Tower is one of several fortifications built in St Ouen’s Bay at that time. Split over three levels, this granite tower provides basic coastal tower accommodation with electricity and lighting but is not connected to any other utilities. There are six beds within the tower and guests must bring their own sleeping bags.

Camping in a Martello Tower.

This was a perfect base for laid back beach life at St Ouens. Basic camping style accommodation, but kept you dry and out of the wind at night. Public toilets just a couple of mins walk away. Great storage space for surf boards and ideal for BBQs outside watching the sunset. If you cant take your own BBQ there is a decent one on site.
Huge dining table on the ground floor, very atmospheric, but you will need lots of light, so take candles and lamps.
Our UK /USA guests were very impressed they had access to an 18th century martello tower, so it was a big success.

I've been looking for a Martello tower to stay in for a while so was excited to be able to book Lewis tower for two nights. The price is very reasonable for a bona-fide castle and the location is wonderful with the beach, crashing waves, surfers, sunsets and WWII history right on your doorstep. Facilities are very basic - a fridge, a BBQ, a kettle and basic beds. There are electrical plugs. We struggled to work out exactly what was there before arriving as different sources quoted different things. We had identified that the toilet is is the carpark - this is fine, but it would be useful to have some water available on the property (perhaps just bottles as a back up) as there is no tap at the toilets. If you are looking for a hotel, this is not it. However, if you like a camping adventure in an unusual building then this is a great option for a slightly different holiday.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the tower. It’s glamping but with electricity, fridge and a kettle! Such a beautiful location and makes for a wonderful adventurous stay!

I hired for my weekend of leaving dos and what a perfect location for it.

The facilities themselves are basic and Heritage warn you of this. Just an added warning that you also share with some local wildlife! Food hygiene is a must - make sure you have boxes you can seal items like bread in.

I was blown away by the surprise room in the tower. Perfect for when it gets a bit chilly or wet outside.

In all, I'm leaving with the best memories from a perfect weekend stay at Lewis' Tower.

An amazing experience in an incredible location, but really quite expensive for what you get. Plenty of cobwebs & a few mousey visitors, but this was not a problem, however, as we totally knew what to expect.

A few garden chairs to use outside, slightly longer beds & cheaper rent for what is essentially a stone tent would be appreciated!

Undoubtedly, this is a stay for seasoned travelers: this is exactly what the website describes: basic, austere and requiring a little physical commitment to a successful experience. If someone is looking for an adventure accommodation, this is the perfect place for those expecting something completely different. I would invite fans of comfort elsewhere.
