Escape to a romantic getaway in the Sanderling overlooking Beadnell Bay.

Inside you will find a cosy log burning stove to keep you snug and warm and there is a stunning glass ceiling above the bed which enables you to continue star-gazing long into the night.

The Sanderling has a fitted kitchen with gas hob, oven and grill, stove top kettle and all the utensils and pans you need to cater for yourselves during your stay. Underneath the hut there is a small fridge. The ensuite bathroom has a flushing toilet, walk in shower and heated towel radiator.

The Sanderling is situated in it’s own private garden overlooking the fields towards the sea and after a long day exploring all the wonderful places which Northumberland has to offer. You can enjoy a glass of wine and cook on the wood burning Fire pit/pizza oven whilst waiting for you’re the hot tub to reach optimum temperature for you to relax in and enjoy the views and dark skies.
Outside there is a cycle hut for bike storage
Situated on the outskirts of Beadnell village, The Sanderling is approximately 15 minutes walk through the village to the gorgeous sandy beaches of Beadnell Bay. In the village there are two family and dog friendly pubs and a beautiful café.
All linen and towels are provided for your stay so all you have to do is switch off and enjoy. The Sanderling sleeps 2 and is dog friendly
The Sanderling is based on Cast iron wheels and is clad internally and externally with reclaimed timber from a Glasgow school gym floor, and a warehouse in Newcastle, insulated with sheep’s wool, features hand crafted oak units and fittings, a king sized bed and en-suite shower.
Here you get back in touch with nature yet enjoy all the trappings of luxury accommodation.

This is such a special place everything is so well organised and it is so relaxing the whole process from booking the stay and checking out is so easy and personal- we love this place and thank you once again for a special relaxing break!!

We had a truly wonderful time at the Sanderling. Perfect location, just ten minutes walk from Beadnell village and bay, and the hut itself is gorgeous! Watching the stars through the skylight above the bed whilst the log burner warmed the room... absolutely magical. Lots of thoughtful touches... jigsaws, hot water bottles, books about stargazing. And the views are spectacular! Can't remember the last time I felt so relaxed, just sitting outdoors by the fire pit, watching the night skies. Can't recommend it enough, and can't wait to come back!

I had a gift voucher as a birthday present and spent a couple of nights in the Sanderling it was great . Small and compact with everything you could need. Only a short walk to Beadnell, which offered choices of places to eat and a gorgeous beach. Then back for a glass of fizz in the hot tub - just lovely.

Shepherds retreat doesn’t disappoint. A gorgeous shepherds hut, with everything you need to escape from it all.

Cosy and quaint, with log fire inside and wood fire hot tub outside. Such a relaxing experience and one we are looking forward to repeating.

The most perfect place to celebrate our 1st year anniversary. We really enjoyed the hot tub with the lovely views. The shepherd hut had everything we needed and felt very premium. The best place to unwind, We will definitely be back.

Had a lovely couple of nights in Sanderling. Got lucky with the weather, so made the most of the hot tub and beautiful views. Only things I'd mention that could be improved upon was the wi-fi (we couldn't access, but mobile 4G was generally good, so no massive concerns) and the hut warms up quite a bit in the sun. To combat that, we had the main doors open but then the place gets filled with flies and other bugs, so a fly screen would come in handy. Aside from that, we had a great stay and would recommend.

Shepherds Retreat was a quirky Shepherds Hut in a good location. Although starting to get alittle tired to the pictures shown on website. We had great weather however this came with alot of flies therefore it was flie gazing rather than star gazing. Fly spray was provided but spraying alot came with a smell.
We had a lovely BBQ on the Saturday night. A pair of scissors would have been handy within utensils, but managed to cut meat using the knife.
Then had breakfast following morning at the landing and evening meal at Craster Arms lovely food.
Then it started to rain, would have been great if there had be a gazebo or some type of cover to sit outside and look at the amazing views .
So we decided to just pack up and travelled home on Saturday evening..
Floyd my little black pug loved the beach & had his paddling pool but couldn't manage to get up and door the stairs to the hut with the gaps be mindful for smaller dogs. Hot tub had green limescale in therefore we were in & out.
Just a few things would have made it alittle better ie a flie net on the door to try and prevent so many flies. The bed was covered in dead flies with using spray. Procecco & chocolate a lovely touch. Stay was far from perfect but we enjoyed the Northumberland coast visiting Seahouses, Bamburgh.

Our 2 night stay at the Sanderling was wonderful. It was super cosy and we especially enjoyed the hot tub. It was a real activity keeping the fire alight and waiting for the water to heat. We also did plenty of walking in the local area. A beautiful place to end our 2 week tour of Scotland and North England.

We did enjoy our stay very much and will return again but possibly to the other shepherds hut as it looks like you can access the bed from both sides. This is only a problem when you are of a certain age or have a bad back. I struggled to get past my boyfriend through the middle of the night (to much lager). I think that in the description it might be helpful to let customers know that the bed is of a certain height and that there is a large step up to it. There is a leak that started to drip onto myself once it started to rain in the morning. I also hadn't realised that the bed was so high. The hot tub was amazing soooo relaxing. Thanks for all the little touches that just make it perfect.

We stayed here for 2 nights in June and were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The shepherds hut is absolutely gorgeous, quite spacious and has everything that you could need. The bed is so comfy (I was tempted to ask where everything was from so I could buy for myself!!). The location is perfect and provides beautiful views over fields and you can see the sea. Just a 10/15 minute walk from the local pub. We enjoyed spending time in the hot tub which was very clean and quite easy to light. The wall around the property made us feel at ease that our dog could roam around and not escape. Our weekend was 10/10 and we will definitely be booking again! Thank you so much for such a relaxing stay.

The Sanderling is a magical place to stay:
15 minutes walk or 3 minutes to cycle into Beadnell.
Orientated that it gets a lovely sunset as you sit outside, and a lovely outlook across the fields to the coast.
Such a charming wee space, but actually has everything that you need and super comfy.
Good outside seating, and hot tub is lovely.
Owners are super efficient and friendly.
Super handy for exploring the best of the Northumberland coast - central for going north to Bamburgh and Holy Island, or heading south to Craster and Alnmouth.
Only downside is a little road noise, but don't let that put you off - I'd go back to this place in a heartbeat, I had the best couple of nights.
Highly recommended.

Gorgeous stay! The weather was fabulous so we spent a lot of time in the garden. Pizza oven used outside, and we sat around the fire until the sun went down watching the sea in the distance. Plenty of dog friendly cafes and restaurants within walking distance. The shepherds hut had everything we needed for a short stay, the hot shower was bliss! We will return

I booked this as a mini honey moon for my nephew and his wife as a wedding gift.
Both were extremely happy and loved everything about it. Warm comfortable and was equipped with everything to make their stay perfect. Location was ideal as both love walking finished off in the hot tub.
Both can’t wait to book up and visit again.
Very accommodating hosts who are on hand and very supportive regarding checking in and out, and what’s on offer in the local area.

We loved staying at the Sanderling shepherds' hut - its design is so cleverly done so that even in that tiny space, we had everything we needed.
The bed was incredibly comfortable and lying there each night watching the moon and stars was one of the best bits of our stay. The bathroom was a revelation - it was definitely compact but the shower was wonderful with unlimited hot water.
The outside space was great with views across the fields to the sea. Being self contained and secure, it was ideal for our dog. Finally, the hot tub: Sam left us prosecco and chocolate so lying in the warm water enjoying our gifts whilst we watched the stars was blissful. A treat to be repeated every night of our stay!

This was our 3rd stay and won't be our last. It was the 1st time in the smaller SH the Sanderling, obviously a little more compact with our 2 big dogs but has a lovely positioning. We can safely say we don't mind which one we stay in next time.

We loved our stay in the Sanderling - small and cosy, but with everything we needed. The bed (although high up - climb on using the stools) was very comfy, the shower was amazing and the log burner (along with a simple kit containing logs, kindling, matches and firelighters) easily kept us warm. Space is a little tight if you have more than one bag or too many clothes - so recommend to travel light. The 2 electric sockets proved convenient for charging, but bring long cables! The hot tub was a treat - it did take about 2 hours (and 2-3 bags of logs) to heat up after a cold January day - but well worth the time and effort.
It's an easy walk into Beadnell where we enjoyed food and drink in one of the pubs and at the coffee shop. We did however find that the local Village Shop was closed until some time in February, so best to stock up before you arrive or head to Seahouses where there is a Co-Op.
The local beaches are lovely and a winter walk to Bamburgh (via Seahouses and a quick stop for chips) was very enjoyable and earnt us a couple of drinks before heading back to Beadnell on the infrequent but seemingly reliable bus.
We'd definitely look to book again, maybe in the summer next time!

Our 4th year at Shepherds Retreats and once again it provided the relaxation and respite we were hoping for. Sanderling is toasty warm even in gales in December and has everything you need for a short break. The wood fired hot tub is perfect for star gazing, a lovely way to spend the evening.

The sanderling was a lovely little hut that accommodated the right amount of space for 2 people. Lovely views and places to visit near by, if wanting to spend days out. The log burner in the hut produces enough heat when it gets started.

Clear night skies were the highlight of the break, looking through the glass window in the roof.

We enjoyed our stay and were very lucky with the weather. We arrived after 6pm so very dark & cold. Took us some time to get warm as there was no fire starter box to get our log burner going. Also there were no towels to use with the hot tub, although in the end we didn’t use the hot tub. The hut itself was very cosy once it was warm and the bed was very comfortable. Enjoyed walking to the pub and coming back and sitting outside with the fire pit blazing away. A very lovely way to stargaze.

Stayed for 2 nights. Shepherd hut was amazing, always felt warm inside. Really tidy on arrival, plus some arrival gifts for stay. Hot tub and fire pit worked amazing. Had a few queries but Sam replied to messages. 15 minute walk down road to local pubs craster Arms/Beadnell towers, 30 mins to main beach, lovely walk along coastal path. Good access to other locations in area. Would stay again, would like to try other hut also.

We stayed a few nights in the Sanderling in mid September and it was fantastic. The hot tub is brilliant, it takes a while to get it going but stay with it. We had great views out over the sea and got to see the northern lights and all the night sky with many shooting stars. We were also treated to some night flying of F35s from the QE2 off the coast. The sky light was a great feature to watch the stars and the bed was comfy.

Could've done with more storage and the fridge inside rather than the a-joining shed but we managed to rough it as it is billed as more of a camping experience - price is on the upper end for camping/glamping, if it is was a little cheaper we would've stayed longer.

This was our 4th stay in the Sanderling, which I think speaks volumes. Can not say one bad word about it love every minute and never want to leave. Perfect to just switch off and relax. The area is amazing with beautiful beaches and lots of places for food and drinks. The Landing is a great new addition to the village. We will definitely be returning again.

Had a lovely 3 night stay to celebrate our wedding anniversary in Sanderling. Even the weather was kind. The hut is pretty luxurious with a nice ensuite. The tub took a bit of time to heat up, but that's not a problem. Keep an eye on the temperature though as it quickly overheats. Amazing comfort in a small package. Beadnell is about 15 minutes walk with some cracking eating. Obviously loads to do and see in the area, or just chill in real comfort. I'll definitely be back.

The Sandling was a wonderful place to stay for a few nights. It's just a short walk to the beach and a couple of local pubs. We stayed in the hut most of the time, enjoying the hot tub, star gazing and the fire. We came away refreshed and with special memories. The hut iteself was cosy, with a very comfy bed and everything was designed with care and creativity. The prosecco and chocolate awaiting our arrival was a lovely touch. The one slight downside was the noise from the cars on the road, as it's quite busy in the summer, but I imagine it's quieter at other times of the year. All in all we would definitely recomend the Sandling as a beautiful place to stay.

We had the loveliest time in the Sanderling hut. The views were fantastic and we had some great views of the stars too. The complimentary bottle of Prosecco was a lovely little touch, which we enjoyed one night in the hot tub whilst watching the sunset. The location was perfect as plenty of places nearby to eat, drink and walk.Very dog friendly too. We would definitely stay again!

Fabulous location overlooking beautiful Northumberland countryside and the bay. Sky so beautiful in the day but especially beautiful at night when the stars, on a clear night, are spectacular. Shepherds hut pleasant, well equipped and cosy. The outside area is secluded and perfect for lounging in the hot tub. The large firepit/BBQ is perfect for keeping warm on chilly evenings and for cooking or warming up food. This was our second visit and we had a fabulous time exploring locally including Beadnell, Seahouses and Craster and further afield including Berwick, Ambel and Ashington. We'll be back next year to have our Northumberland fix. Highly recommended.

A great 2 day break. Booking procedure was easy and the new digital guidebook was really good - it gives all information needed for your stay all in one place and very user friendly . It also gives recommendations for local pubs/eateries which is always a benefit. Bus times and tide times are also left in the hut for information.
We have never stayed in a shepherds hut before and it was a lot more spacious than I was expecting. The hut is well designed and I liked that there is a history of the materials used to build the hut. The garden and hot tub are private from the neighbouring hut. We had a great stay despite the weather with plenty to do and see in the area. The prosecco and chocolate were a really thoughtful touch. We would definitely stay again and would recommend staying here.

A much needed break away from home and change of scenery. Ended up just being me and the dog but it was still perfect. Beadnell beach is my favourite beach, dog friendly and everyone is pleasant. Also love how close to Bamburgh it is for a day out. The hut has everything you need for a perfect and relaxed stay. And the complimentary prosecco, chocolate and dog biscuits went down a treat! I cant think of any improvements that could be made. I'll definitely be back.

The weekend at the Sanderling surpassed all my expectations- location and views from the hut are both great. The hut has everything you could need- the little hamper of treats was so cute and our dog adored the treats and lay on the waterproof bed outside, we kept her fluffy one inside. Like camping, but with home comforts. Hot tub was amazing- we heated it for 2.5 hours from cold the first night and the second night didn’t take as long. Loved it, hope to come back soon!

Things I recommend you don’t forget: sun cream, antihistamines (you’re next to a big big field!) and a citronella candle for the evening.

As much as we had looked forward to doing something which for us was a bit different, we weren't quite expecting some of the challenges of staying in the hut. The bed is basically on stilts with the requirement to pull a chest out from underneath to enable access to it. if you suffer with mobility challenges as I do, this can be an issue and does not seem particularly safe. Our dog was also with us and he was trying to jump up which made for a very restless night.

Overall the hut is very cleverly designed to maximise the space but the bed was an issue for us meaning that we cut short our stay.

The bedding was also stained from a leak in the skylight. We also didn't find the location particularly restful - the hut was by quite a busy road and there was regular traffic noise late into the evening and from very early in the morning.

Hi Simon, I am sorry that the Sanderling was not suitable for your stay and your mobility issues and we apologise for the water stain on the bedding which from the rain coming through unfortunately. If you had let us know when you arrived we could have addressed this immediately. We have now had the leak fixed and shouldn't experience any other issues with leaks.

This is my go to place to unwind and it never disappoints, always clean and tidy. Love the fact that tea and coffee and toiletries are provided in the hut and all the little things that make this so special. There are lots of little touches that make this unique. The wood fired hot tub is a dream, fab to sit in there and listen to the birds and take in the views. The wood burner is cosy and the bed is so comfortable. This is the perfect spot to explore the Northumberland coastline.

We had a lovely relaxing short stay at The Sanderling and were impressed with how much thought and detail had gone in to the presentation of the property. Everything we needed was catered for and the facilities were finished to a high standard. The hot tub was a real highlight! We took our two dogs and it made a change to stay somewhere where the property was so nice that allowed dogs too! They loved the dog bed outside so they could lie in the sun and it was so reassuring how secure the garden was for them. We will definitely return!

We stayed for 3 nights in the sanderling and loved every moment.
The hut is gorgeous, really cosy & has all you need. The little fire is really lovely too & it’s so warm.
We loved relaxing in the garden over looking the stunning views and taking in the stars from the hot tub.
Every morning at breakfast we had little birds & a hare come to visit.
Perfect base for exploring Northumberland and the beaches are just insane.
We watched the sun rise every morning.
Our dog Tilly had the best time and she was made so welcome.
Thank you so much for sharing this gem with us, we cannot wait to return x

Lovely stay, there was a few little bits I'd recommend to add for future guests!

I'd of loved if the hot tub was warm for the first night! We wasted a fair few hours trying to warm it up with no luck! 2nd night it was fab as we put the fire on really early and kept on top of adding wood! It burns through soooo quickly.

The gas hob could do with some instructions/stickers to identify which dial is for which part of it! Sticking a naked flame in and having a guessing game wasn't overly fun!

Grill needs a new handle as the one we found wouldn't connect as it looked melted so had to resort to pulling the hot pan out with food tongs

We also found we could of used with some oven gloves/fire gloves as the handles on both fires get super hot.
..and also a bread knife!

Other than that our stay was fab and lovely location too! Shower is AMAZING and thr bed was super comfy too

Thank you for your feedback and we have now made clearer instructions on the gas hob and replaced the breadknife (not sure what happened to the one that was there) We have check the grill handle and it does work it just needs to be clicked into place - I will add that to the instructions on how to use the grill so that other guests do not have the same issue. Unfortunately the oven gloves were not left for your stay (as we do usually leave a set) sorry about that and I have spoken to the team about this We are pleased you managed to get the hot tub fire sorted for the second night and enjoyed it. We had a lovely stay in the hut. We thought the fire lighting box inside the hut was a great idea. The gifts left in the hut were a nice touch. The space was used really effectively and the dark skies box was a big win!

The hot tub took a little longer to heat up than we anticipated following the information booklet's guidance, however it retained the heat really well! Some more lights around the hot tub would have been nice for the evenings - it looked as though there were some solar powered lights, but they didn't work for us. A mini freezer would have been nice for cold desserts.

Would definitely recommend and we'd love to come back.

Amazing weekend from start to finish in such a unique setting. It’s the little things that make a difference and Sam has this to a tee, welcome drinks and snacks for us and our dog as well as a spare dog bed and extra dog towels. We enjoyed a night in the hot tub, we were lucky with the weather on the 2nd night and had a perfect evening star gazing. There’s plenty to do and plenty not to do, would definitely return and have recommended to everyone ☺️

Northumberland is my favourite place and The Sanderling was just perfectly situated to see all of the beloved beaches and walks we love.
Cosy, quiet with the view of Beadnell Bay and Dunstanburgh Castle, wow.
Hot tub under the stars with the log burning fire waiting inside for a tipple from a complimentary glass of fizz and ale.
Everything you need in the hut and nearby but cut off enough to unwind.

The sanderling has everything that you need to have a comfortable stay. We took a couple of comfortable folding beach chairs if you want to chill out and watch nature's telly!! And have a glass of wine. Not too sure about the hot tub?
The location with beadnell Bay and sea houses, bamborough Castle and all their beaches is stunning. I would recommend that you give this a try, it's a lot different from a hotel or standard caravan, and I'm sure you'll love the experience. If it's a clear night the view from the glass roof is great.

The hut was beautiful and well kitted out. We had cloudy skies but I could imagine the glass roof would have been spectacular on a clear night. We loved the hot tub, it was relatively quick to heat up and was divine after a day out and about. There is noise from the road and I would advise you to bring your own longer, tougher matches but other than that, no complaints-we had a wonderful stay.

Thanks so much to Samantha for the communication, the app information and the wonderful hut itself. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend. The hut is situated by a field with sea views from the hut and the hot tub. We took provisions for a barbecue on the first night and booked a table for dinner at the Craster Arms (approx 1km walk) the second night.
We had wood provided for the hot tub wood burner with plenty of extra stock in the shed (take cash for the honesty box). There was a fridge and all kitchen amenities, including a cafetiere! Things I should have thought of taking were milk, ground coffee and my dry robe for sitting out in after a dip in the hot tub. That said, instant coffee, tea and sugar are provided in the hut, which was fab.
We would definitely stay again and I would recommend the hut to anyone considering booking. One of the best parts for me was the glass ceiling for star gazing- really special!

This was our second time visiting the Sanderling, as we loved it so much the first time. I found this place so special that I decided to use it as our place to stay before asking my partner to marry me on Beadnall Bay (p.s - she said yes!).

It was the perfect place to stay as this place is so romantic. We had champagne in the hot tub afterwards! Anyone booking here won't be disappointed.

You feel really well looked after, from the complimentary local drinks & chocolate to the fire already being prepared for the hot tub, everything is thought of.

We love staying at this place, especially Sanderling as I love looking out over the fields just watching the wildlife... Even more so from the hot tub :-) It's an amazing place to stay for star gazing too and ideally located to explore further a field. We try go somewhere different each time we come and we still have lots of places still to tick off.

The cabin was fantastic and very well done but too close to the main road for me and the road was much busier than I expected , evenings it was very busy although over night it was quiet

What an amazing place! If you want to escape life for a few days, this is the place to do it! It was so nice to wake up naturally and to listen to nature! Lovely walk to beadnell bay too and a few good pubs down In Seahouses.

Lovely quirky place, everything you need is supplied and extras too. Comfy bed and glass roof for stargazing, too cloudy for us. Fabulous views from inside and out. We loved the hot tub and enjoyed a glass of fizz whilst soaking up everything outside. The only downside for us was that the location is near the main road so a lot of traffic noise until late at night and then early morning.

Absolutely loved our stay in Sanderling !
Fabulous location with fantastic views from all windows. The hut itself exceeded our expectations, sheer luxury as we are used to our camper van. The outside space is awesome with the hot tub and barbecue/pizza oven/ fire pit and loungers with spectacular views ! Will definitely be back and recommend highly.

Peaceful 2 night stay though I would recommend that you have no joint problems as it took me ages to manage to get up on the high bed (I had injured my knee after booking )
The hut was very clean , and the owners had left a welcoming gift of wine and chocolate
Only 2 little niddles, we couldn't find mirror and bbq grill plate was dirty with grease and bits of black gunge which was a bit off putting as I don't want to be cleaning up other people's mess
I would definitely recommend if your fit and able

The Sanderling is a stunning little hut with all he amenities you would ever require
We will definitely book again and possibly with 2 small grandchildren in tow
We were lucky with the weather so didn't need to use the indoor heater or cooker as bbq outside and hot tub were amazing

Fantastic stay in a stunning Shepherds hut, it was perfectly equipped and beautifully organised. Warm and cosy, a short walk from the village with lovely restaurants ( book though they are busy). Road noise is only tiny issue but it’s really not a problem. Wood fired hot tub is a delight. A tiny pocket of luxury highly recommended

I cannot speak highly enough of the Sanderling - it was our first time staying and I very much hope it won't be the last. The shepherd's hut is beautifully designed, clean and cosy, with lots of thoughtful touches and everything you need for a relaxing break. The wood-fired hot tub and pizza oven outside were brilliant and so fun to use. Sam the manager was really helpful and communicative and went the extra mile to help us with some special touches for my partner's 30th birthday. The hut is perfectly located for exploring Beadnell and the surrounding areas.

Our second time staying in the Sanderling and it was just as good as the first. It’s in an excellent location just a 5 minute walk from Beadnell and a 5 minute car ride to get into seahouses. The log fire hot tub is great, even in the cold weather and the view of the stars through the screen roof is really enjoyable. 100% would stay again.

Met up with friends who stayed in the sandpiper. The hut was well finished and had great views. The glass skylight was brilliant. The shower is powered by a combi boiler so the showers are lovely and hot. The wood burning stove heated up the hut no problem and quite quickly. We didn't get round to using the hot tub so can't comment on that.
The other couple had the sandpiper and they didn't use the hot tub either, which slept 4 but the tub only fitted 2. We may have used it if we could have all sat together.

We stayed for 2 nights to celebrate my partners significant birthday. The place is fantastic, within walking distance to the sea, wood fired hot tub which was brilliant, pizza oven, great views overlooking fields. We spent two nights in this lovely shepherds hut, perfectly situated for walking into Beadnall and along the coast. Had two very good nights sleep in the extremely comfy bed, especially loved the glass ceiling, watching the full moon and stars on the first evening. Have to mention the super shower, wasn’t expecting such fantastic water pressure! Would definitely stay again.

The Shepherd’s hut was as expected and has made the best of the limited space. The features we enjoyed the most were the glass ceiling above the bed and watching the stars at night time. We also enjoyed the fire pit and cooking outdoors. The only downsize for me was the Vinci try next to a busy road.

Excellent location with fantastic views. Ideal for a relaxing get away from it all break. The hut was comfortable and very snug. Well equipped with most things we needed. The information provided before arrival was very comprehensive. The list of restaurants etc was very useful. Can I suggest you add a list of local farm shops as well. A few more hooks would have been useful for hanging coats etc. I was disappointed with the cleanliness of the hut as we found numerous hairs(looked like dog hairs) on our bags which were on the floor and especially in the crockery and glasses which was quite worrying.

The hut is truly lovely. Beautifully designed, clean, comfortable, and the log burner and hot tub are just wonderful. Bed is lovely to sleep on and the shower is fantastic. Location in the dark sky zone is great and the beach, just a 15 minute walk away is great. Lovely walks to be had into seahouses and up to bamburgh along beautiful coastline. View behind the hut into the fields is wonderful. Hut would benefit from a lamp to read by to save power.

So we really loved the hut and the area but sadly it is let down by the road noise. We’ve stayed in a few shepherds huts and peace and quiet is kind of implicit in the title - shepherds usually don’t live near busy roads - but unfortunately we had constant road noise. All through the day, evening and well into the night, and the hut is right on the road. It’s a B road single carriageway but it’s a 70 mile per hour zone and you catch the cars just as they accelerate to/from the 40 mile per hour zone at beadnell village. Maybe before Covid it was a quiet road but now with all the trucks, caravans and volume of cars we did not get more than a minute of silence - you can’t hear the birdsong or any nature from the cabin and the cars kept me awake until late every night. We were expecting stillness and quiet as with other shepherds huts, to be able to sit and read in peace at night but honestly our house in Greater London is much quieter! If you could move the huts back away from the road this place would be absolutely perfect.

Fabulous experience in the Sanderling. View over the field with the sea in the distance whilst sitting in the hot tub. We loved the hot tub. Due to weather we didn’t see the stars but we sat outside and used the barbecue and pizza oven. Visited beaches in the area and Holy Island. All in all a lovely break with a difference. Would thoroughly recommend a stay. Hope to come back again.

What a wonderful way to spend three days, even when the weather was less than ideal! Sanderling is a truly unique experience - cosy, yet surprisingly light and extremely well equipped. The hot tub and barbecue are superb as are the bed and the panoramic roof. In addition, the Craster Arms and Salt Water Cafe are superb, and a mere five minute walk away while the beautiful Beadnall Bay beach is a fifteen minute walk or five minutes by car.

Having stayed several times at The Bothy, and Shepherds Lodge, decided to try out the Sanderling hut, as with the previous accommodation it was tip-top. Had a lovely week, and the weather was brilliant. All in all a really nice holiday, would certainly recommend it.

We had a wonderful week staying in Sanderling. We walked, we relaxed and we totally switched off. The hut was just beautiful with everything we needed. Comfy bed, lovely shower, great views, great outdoor eating and living facilities including the fabulous hot tub....it was just perfect and a great base to enjoy this beautiful area. We much preferred this to a house, it's so novel, cozy and private. Mack loved his home made dog snacks and the little additional gifts were really appreciated. Yes, the huts are just off a road but this didn't bother us at all. We walked, ate, relaxed and slept and for us this was just perfect. This is a great little place. 15 mins walk into Beadnell if you fancy a change of scenery. Lots of information before we arrived in terms of arrival, keys, how to use the wood fired hot tub etc. all very easy to understand.

If you want to unwind and forget about everything for a little while this in the place. Light the bbq, relax in hot tub and enjoy. The welcome pack of Prosecco, beer and chocolate was a lovely surprise on arrival. We will defiantly return.

The hut is fantastic, it has more than we expected and the character of the reclaimed wood really makes it. The hot tub was perfect after a long day walking. The hosts were incredibly helpful in responding to queries. It’s a short walk into Beadnell and a perfect hub for exploring Northumberland

This was our second visit so we knew what to expect. The facilities provided were very good with no negative issues at all.

If you want me to be picky then I had to remove the shelves in the fridge to store the milk upright. That's it.

The bed is very comfy, it was warm, the shower was great, hot and cold running water, everything was clean, everything worked.
Hot tub took about 2 hours to heat, didn't see the barn owl but we did see a tawny owl, a few hares, some Belted Galloways and we saw the Seahouses lifeboat being launched for a planned exercise.

We had a lovely time staying at the Shepherd Hut. The location was lovely and the views were stunning. The road noise was a downfall, however, it is to be expected. The facilities were good and we had almost everything we needed. We would have liked to have a small lamp next to the bed for the evening. The hot tub was fantastic and easy to set up. I was a little disappointed to find that there were fingerprints on the bathroom mirror, some of the glasses and the windows, especially in the current covid climate. Having said this we would definitely return and recommend the huts.

Hi Kay, thank you for taking the time to review your stay. The lamp idea is great and I will look to getting a suitable one to fit into the alcove - I hadn't thought of that. I can only apologise about the fingerprints and hope it didn't spoil your stay. All of the cleaning team do wear gloves and use antibacterial solution to clean everything through, I do know that mirror can be difficult to clean and put back and I think I will install mirrors on the wall instead of a hand held one. I have spoken to the team and will ensure that they are extra vigilant when cleaning and putting things back so that their prints aren't left on the items. I will also check the windows to ensure that they are cleaned thoroughly. Thank you again for pointing these issues out. Hope you do visit again sometime, thanks Sam

Lovely Hut, comfortable King size bed, all the things you need provided and great en suite with large walk in shower. So this is glamping for me, lovely to sit outside with the fire pit and the hot tub if you like that sort of thing. Great roof over King size comfy bed to star gaze if weather conditions allow. Great use of small space and good parking. We saw owls and hares and slept like logs.

Only criticism is that it is near the busy road and you do have a sea view but it is distant.

But we had a lovely stay and love Beadnell and the surrounding area, great for dog walks straight from the property down to the beaches and beyond. 2 good pubs in walking distance Craster Arms and Beadnell hotel. Also lovely pubs The Ship at Low Newton and the Joiners at High Newton further down the road.

Would recommend - the hut is beautifully designed.

We try to book here a couple of times a year for short breaks away. Location is perfect as we've visited a new place every time we've been. We love to end the day sat in the hot tub looking out over the fields with a view of the sea in the background. Inside the hut has everything you need and there is nothing nicer than getting cosy with the wood burner on. I'm usually the type of person who likes to try new places but this place has us hooked and we have already got more dates booked to go back.

This is my second visit to Shepherds Retreat huts and it didn’t disappoint!! In fact I’ve already booked to come back later in the year!
Clean, comfy and perfectly located for beach walks and sightseeing. Took a boat trip from Seahouses, to see the seals and puffins, which I would highly recommend.
Many thanks for the lovely welcome pack - the dogs loved their treats and I enjoyed the vino whilst chilling out in the hot tub!

This is an absolutely stunning location for a unique stay! We loved stargazing from the (really comfy!) bed, roasting marshmallows over the fire pit and sitting in the hot tub looking out over the fields full of wildlife (we even saw a barn owl!) The amenities were great, especially the cosy log burner and the shower. There is a lot to do in the local area, such as a day trip to Bamburgh Castle and a visit to one of the pubs (The Lord Crewe Inn was great!) We walked from Beadnell to Long Newton, which is quite a long walk but you see so many birds (we think we saw Sanderlings!) and it's really peaceful. We stopped at the Beadnell Towers and the Craster Arms on our walk back which were both really nice. There's also a boat trip you can go on with Billy Shiel's, where you can see seals and birds, as well as visiting some of the islands off the coast. Thank you for a lovely, romantic stay! We loved the Sanderling and left incredibly relaxed :)

Lovely relaxing stay. Saw a beautiful sunset and sunrise. Shame about dead Christmas tree outside, by steps as you walk up to hut. Shower and kitchen sink weren’t the cleanest they should have been... loved the glass roof had a stary night of twinkly lights above.

Loved this place 100%. We loved everything about it from the fire pit/BBQ and hot tub to the lovely bathroom with hot shower and very comfy bed. Didn't use the woodburner as weather was beautiful so wasn't needed. Everything you need for a romantic getaway, luxury glamping at its best!!

We stayed for 3 nights and absolutely loved it. The hut was very clean, comfortable and well laid out. Stargazing from the bed was amazing and the stove kept it nice and toasty. Excellent location 15 minutes walk from Beadnell with great views over the fields to the sea. The wood fired hot tub was really nice even on a cold evening. The only slight drawback was the minimal storage for clothes/bags/food but it worked ok for our short stay. Overall we would highly recommend, and would love to go again!

We enjoyed our stay in the shepherd hut. The bathroom was excellent with really great shower. Well equipped kitchen with everything you need. The only minor thing would be access to the bed via a chair which I found not very easy, personally.

... in a little part of Northumberland!
The Sanderling was an absolute delight in every way from the start of my stay until I reluctantly had to leave. The directions and guest information was fantastic and the added gifts for me and my dog were a real treat!
The hut is extremely comfortable and a great size for a couple and has everything you need for a very comfortable stay. The bathroom is lovely and the shower was fantastic to come home to after a day walking. The bed was comfortable and I had the best sleep after looking at the stars through the beautiful glass roof. The log burning stove gives a really cosy feel when the chill kicks in!
The hot tub was easy to light and is a fab way to relax, along with a fire pit.
The hut is very well maintained and extremely clean. I have already recommended to a number of friends and family for a little relaxing getaway and I am looking for an excuse to book again!

Had the most fabulous couple of nights at the Sanderling. The log burner made it so cozy and lying in bed looking at the stars was amazing. Great shepherds hut, very well equipped.
Star gazing window could have been cleaned as this was a main feature. A larger mirror would be good. Overall a lovely break and I would book again.

The Sanderling is a fun place to stay. It's a different experience to stay in a little hut with the big window over your bed and the very dark surroundings. The table and chairs fit under the bed, and the chairs have room for your clothes. The hut is very comfy with clean, soft sheets and a giant duvet. The Sanderling is private, so you can sit on your steps, on the outside chairs or in the hot tub without anyone overlooking you. The birds are a delight. The hut is only a short walk away from the beach and there are excellent cycle routes all around. We recommend a stay here if you want something just a little bit different.

My husband and myself both throughly enjoy our stay in the sanderling, the outdoors had everything you need to relax. The hot tub was brilliant and the pizza oven so easy to use.
The hut was very comfortable and the owners have literlly provided everything you could need to make anthing in the downsized kitchen area.
Also dog friendly which was great.
Can't fault this place, only praise for how comfortable our stay was and the owners for being in touch regularly and ensuring we had the best stay possible.
We'll definitely return in the future!

I stayed in the Sanderling in July 2020 and had an amazing time. The Shepherds hut is in a great location, it was easily acccessible, had amazing uninterupted views over the fields and the sea in the distance and it was within walking distance to Beadnell town. This was the perfect mix of having that country side experience without being too remote.

I couldn't pick just one highlight of the hut, as I loved every part of it. The hot-tub and firepit outside was amazing, and it felt very rustic and exciting lighting the fires to heat the hot-tub, and it was a perfect way to end the day. Also the roof windows above the bed made the hut feel so spacious and added such a great touch. There are blinds provided too if you wanted it to be darker at night. The overall style of the hut was so cute and it felt really special.

The facilities inside the hut were amazing, everything was of a high quality and it helped to make the stay feel more luxurious. I found that the hut was well equiped with everything we needed. Having not stayed in a hut like this before, I wasn't sure what to expect. But my stay was very comfortable and had all of the amenities that you would need. I was very suprised by the bathroom as it was larger than I had realised from the photos with a spacious shower and excellent water pressure.

Also, with the current situation around COVID-19, I felt very comfortable staying here after the extra information that Sam had sent explaining the new measures that had been put in place.

We had an amazing time staying at the Shepherds hut, and our only wish was that we had booked a longer stay as we didn't want to leave! I would really highly recommend this hut to anyone, as it is the perfect relaxing break. I hope to return soon.

The most perfect place!! We loved it so much, it's beautiful, sat looking out over the fields towards the sea, absolute bliss

The hut is huge way bigger than I thought, the bathroom is amazing it's not at all like camping it's a proper bathroom. Hot tub is bliss!!! It's so dog friendly, there is no way for the dog to escape so we were so comfortable knowing he could wonder around and was safe. He was as relaxed as we were!!

I'm just sad we could only go for one night, I can't wait to go back for longer.

We stayed in the Sanderling at the beginning of July. The team have taken care with the cleaning and safety aspect of the place. A lovely little ‘cabin’ set off a road with views of the fields. Out of the two, tmi would recommend this one as it faces the fields and you can not see the road and it has a more private ‘garden’ with chairs, table, bbq/pizza oven and hot tub. The hot tub takes a while to heat, make sure you read the instructions;)
Inside is small and compact as you’d expect but SO cosey- a risen bed with skylight, and out comes a table and chairs from under (then our dogs used it as a den to sleep;))
Small kitchen with what you need, outside fridge, and a lovely modern bathroom.
Beadnell was 10mins walk and there’s a couple of nice pubs, then smother 5mins takes you to the lovely bays and beaches- fabulous location in Northumberland. Highly recommend, we’ll be back!

Albeit brief, a very relaxing break away. The weather was kind to us but I'm sure it wouldn't have mattered. Everything was just as expected and was perfect. The bed was very comfy and the roof window was great. Loved the hot tub but took us a while to get the temperature right!

Wow, I really cannot praise this place enough!
Wood-fired hot tub - wonderful even in drizzly November, with views across the fields (and the kindling was all set ready to go when we arrived!). Outdoors space cleverly set out, and useful things found clean, dry and tidy in the shed.
Log burner great fun to keep going and blimey did the hut get warm!! No worries about being cold here at all!!
The glass ceiling I've not seen anywhere else and absolutely made my day!
All aspects of the hut cleverly thought out - the windows were high enough to be private but from the bed you see the sea (and some kitesurfers on our stormy morning!), which was so lovely!
The location was rural fields on one side (the side you could see from the hot tub), but with a convenient road the other side so you could be in the pub in 2mins, in town in 5-10 mins and at the seaside in less than that. If you want absolute silence, the road may bother you, but we thought it a perfectly fine trade-off for convenience, and didn't affect any part of our stay.
All little things you could want provided - smellies, hot chocolate, beer, matches, binoculars, board games, everything for cooking (you can't beat pancakes for breakfast in bed in a shepherd's hut looking out over fields of sheep towards the distant frothy waves, honestly!). I marvelled at every part of this little hut, and wanted to live there forever.
Honestly, I will be raving about this to anyone who will listen for a long time to come. What a perfect stay!

Great location, there was everything you needed and it all was eco, quality stuff. We had the best time listening to the radio, playing games and generally tending fires and dipping in and out of the hot tub. Would totally recommend!

The Sanderling shepherds hut is an outstanding place to kick back, relax and watch the world go by especially the glorious night sky.
Everything catered for to a very high standard, plenty of wood to get those burners going for a cosy comfy stay.
The hot tub is amazing.
Sam the owner is a very lovely decent lady who helps with any issues.
One can only say exceptional.

Loved our short break taking it back to basics for our 5yr anniversary . So cozy and the hut tub was gorgeous with a glass of bubbly. Great location for walks with the dog. Definitely would visit again

Despite the weather being unforgiving, we had an awesome time in the Northumberland countryside. The walk to the beach, evening BBQ, prosecco in the wood fired hot tub and Sunday lunch at a local pub are mandatory.
Definitely would come again.

Was really looking forward to my stay at The Sanderling and it definitely didn’t disappoint. Such a beautifully furnished caravan with everything we needed. If you’re looking for somewhere to go and relax this is the perfect spot with it’s fabulous hot tub and glass roof to enjoy the views.

Only a short walk to the beach with a couple of lovely pubs near by and only a 5 minute drive into Seahouses. Will definitely be returning :)

The Sanderling was a very welcome end to 5 days walking. It was luxurious and comfortable (for a shepherd’s hut). The hut itself is very beautiful and well made, and all the facilities are high quality. It’s been well thought out as a premium type of accommodation, with everything we needed for our stay, plus wine and chocolate to welcome us!

The shower, kitchen etc all work very well. This isn’t ‘glamping’ really - it’s a proper holiday home with a bit of novelty.

The hot tub and bbq are great touches. The former takes a long time to get going but is as good as it sounds sat under the stars with a glass of wine, soothing our aching muscles.

The main downside is that the coastal road is very close to the hut. This woke us up a couple of times as it gets busy in the mornings. And it kind of spoils the vibe when your enjoying beautiful views across the bay only to have that noise fairly constantly. It quietened down at night but mornings and evenings were noisy - HGVs, motorbikes and farm traffic especially.

It’s less than ideal to stay here if you don’t have a car. The walk into Beadnell is doable, with a footpath set apart from the road. But it’s not that enjoyable with cars speeding past all the way.

We’ve stayed in a few shepherds huts around the country. This was more like a very small but well equipped holiday cottage. The fact that there was a busy road immediately outside our window was a shame and made the high cost seem not quite worth it. There are similar places you can stay in this area - on the coast and in the hills - with none of the noise and all of the charm.

Thank you Sam for your review and your feedback. We are pleased that you liked the Sanderling hut and the wood fired hot tub. We have tried to offer something that will be a unique glamping experience with the luxury of all the trimmings - ie hot showers, wood burning stove and glass roof. It is lovely to hear that you enjoyed the hot tub after your long walks. It does take approx 90 mins to heat up with the wood supplied and you can relax and enjoy a glass of wine or two while waiting. The huts are located on the 'B' road heading into Beadnell which is the single carriageway road into and out of Beadnell and I am sorry you were disturbed by the traffic during your stay. There is a road approx 50 yards across from the hut which takes you down a country lane through the village and it is a shame that you didn't realise you could get that way so that you did not have to walk down the road. I will ensure a map is put in the welcome pack for future guests.

We stayed on Bank Holiday weekend and scored with the weather. The Sanderling was easy to find and we had received comprehensive information from the owners. The hut is perfect, every need has been anticipated. It is small but perfectly designed to make the most of the space. So much thought was given: there was milk, tea, coffee, matches.... and even a bar of chocolate, wine and beer! The hot tub was a wonderful treat too. We will definitely be booking up again.

They really thought of everything from the woodfired hot tub to the bottle of wine on arrival. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and our little hurt had a particularly great view across the fields and to the sea. We would highly recommend it and we can’t wait to come stay again

We had an amazing time in such a quirky shepherds hut. Everything had been thought of and we loved all of the touches and attention to detail. Myself, husband and Jango our springer had a lush chilling 3 night stay, hot tub amazing, bed so comfy, powerful shower, amazing views and so quiet on an evening. Box Café pizza place was fab and the two pubs in Beadnell were fab and all within a 10/15 minute walk. Love the beach in Beadnell and Jango loved it too. We will be back and fancying a winter break there as we think it will be lovely and cosy. Thank you so much xx

When we arrived we couldn't believe our eyes. It was more than we expected and the location was everything you need from this type of holiday. The van provided all we needed for our holiday. Beautifully made wagon from reclaimed wood. Great size bathroom, king size bed.

Compact but has everything you need. New to rental and therefore good condition and quite luxurious for glamping. We loved the experience, lying in bed looking at the sky through the glass roof above the kingsize bed was amazing. Pity we were there on the shortest day of the year but we did manage to do a bit of stargazing.
Location perfect for peace and quiet but easy access to shops pubs eating places and places to visit. Only stayed 3 nights and didn't manage to use the wood fired hot tub. We lit the fire on the first night but it wasn't warm enough before we went to bed. Am sure it would have been lovely to relax in though.
Would recommend to friends but would have liked a tv if staying longer than 3 nights. Has Wi-Fi so we were able to stream on our phones.

Hi Liz, thank you for your wonderful review for the Sanderling. It was lovely to meet you all during your stay and I am so pleased that you like the hut and the star gazing. We decided not to have TVs in the huts due to trying to be eco friendly and running the power off Solar Energy so a TV will probably take too much power. The hot tub fire needs to be set up and burning really hot to get the water to heat up and it usually takes about 1.5 hours to get to the correct temperature. We usually recommend lighting it, have your meal, whilst keeping the fire stoked up and then it will be ready by the time you are finished eating. Thanks Sam
