Hidden Gem was perfect for a weekend away with my dog, Pluto! We had very considerate and friendly communication from Laura, the owner. The location is wonderful with miles of dunes and beach for walking. The cottage was lovely and we appreciated the thoughtful extras. I could relax knowing it was such a dog friendly cottage. We particularly enjoyed the sunny conservatory.
Pluto and I were very happy!

Great experience from start to finish. Good information on booking website to ensure you pick the right property for your needs. We found the property was described accurately with much thought given to ensure we had everything we needed for our stay. Lovely welcome pack for dogs and the humans had a bottle of fizz and a lovely cake in addition to some helpful staples. Kitchen well equipped, bedding and towels very good. Loads of really helpful info on the lead up to our stay and also in the property. We will definitely use East Ruston Cottages again.

Lovely few days at Hidden Gem. This was the perfect location for us and our water loving, ball chasing Labradors. To be able to open the back door, keep the lead on for half a minute and then let them go across the dunes to the beach was super. We saw the odd people with dogs but all in all very quiet, not that the pair are particularly reactive.
The information on the cottage and surrounding area was spot on right from the start and super helpful. The welcome goodies for humans and pooches were awesome and hugely appreciated. Plenty of room for three adults and the hounds, the kitchen was really well equipped too and loads of extras for the dogs should you need them. This isn’t dog accommodating its dog welcoming. I would definitely stay here again.

The Hidden Gem really is just that x
Positioned down a little lane tucked out of site but within steps of the lovely winterton on sea village was our holiday home for 4 nights x the views from the bedroom windows were just magical especially when the sun was coming up or down x
Our 3 dogs couldn’t get enough of the dunes and beach walks x
Although the weather wasn’t great we had a wonderful time and virtually everything you needed was available in the house x couldn’t fault it
And with the local pub just round the corner who could ask for more 10/10

Hidden Gem, what a lovely place, everything provided that you need for a home from home stay, especially if travelling with your Furry Family..
Fantastic location steps from the beach and main village amenities.
Very comfortable accommodation, plenty of space and beautifully decorated.
We had a fantastic weekend.

First I found a beach, then I looked for a dog friendly place to stay, then I found Hidden Gem. And what a find that was. We were blown away by what this cottage had to offer us and our 2 dogs. Yes, they're allowed on the sofas, yes they're allowed on the beds. Our dogs were welcomed in a way other 'dog friendly holidays' have not. Bowls, spare leads and guest dog tags, doggie first aid kit, the list is endless. And did I mention, out the back door and the beach is just over the dunes. Out the front door and just up the road, a lovely dog friendly pub. We had absolutely everything we needed, Laura and Pete have thought of everything. Best holiday ever, thank you.

We had a wonderful short break at Hidden Gem. It was a warm welcome with lots of treats for us and our dog, the cottage is cosy and has everything you'd need for a stay. We loved the views over the dunes and the easy access to walks from the back door.

What a fantastic place!
Really set up for dog lovers and catering for all your needs. The location was brilliant too straight out the back door onto to dunes and beach.
Shop on your doorstep as well as a great fish and chip shop and a lovely local pub that did good pub grub too and dog friendly

What can I say about our stay at hidden gem? Well I'll start with saying what an absolute gem it is. This is our 11th holiday to an East Ruston Cottage and I will continue to sing the praises of this amazing, dog worshipping, business. From the moment we walked inside the gate, it felt so homely with lots of lovely pictures and decoration to really let you know you've arrived at the coast. Cosy lounge, comfy beds and a light & airy kitchen with all the required utensils and gadgets. We loved the addition of the air fryer.... may now be on our shopping list!!! Absolutely everything you need for the dogs; bowls, towels, bedding, throws, holiday collar tags, a mud daddy and a useful hose out in the fully enclosed garden. The direct access to the dunes from the kitchen door is just fabulous. During our stay, we enjoyed fish-and-chips from Winterton fish & chip shop and cakes from Poppy's Tearoom. We took a long but wonderful 8 mile round walk across the dunes for a lovely lunch at poppy lands & lots of walks up-and-down the dunes between Hemsby and Horsey. What a privilege to see the seals. Thank you so much, Laura & Pete, for a 5 star experience from beginning to end. Brilliant communication and a lovely touch of a cake from my partner's birthday. An absolutely outstanding gem of a place.

We had everything we could possibly want or need at Hidden Gem. Perfect house with a great location for all the things we wanted to do and places we wanted to see.

We stayed in November and thanks to the highly efficient heating or amazing log fire we were amazingly cosy and happy….but I can easily imagine the house being just as perfect in the Summer too.

Year round enjoyment and a credit to the owners and to ERC. Properly dog friendly, not ‘dogs tolerated’ like a lot of places we’ve stayed in the past.

A perfect location for relaxing and enjoying the dunes and beaches for humans and dogs. Very impressed with cleanliness, appearance, warmth with a well equipped kitchen. Welcoming for pawrents and dogs with wonderful treats on arrival. Has plenty of equipment and accessories for dogs if you forget anything making it very easy. Our best getaway yet with the dogs and we would be planning to return. Highly recommended.

We loved our stay at Hidden Gem. Lovely welcome goodies and we felt at home straight away. Unloaded the car and went straight out the back door, over the dunes and onto the beach! The owners have thought of everything. It’s a lovely place to stay, with easy walking distance to the beach, shop, post office, tea shop and there’s a cafe on the beach too. There’s games when the weather is not so nice. Definitely want to go back. I think my dog had the best holiday ever.

Our second time staying at this cottage and loved it just as much. Will certainly be back. Perfect for walking your dog across the dunes to the beach with access from back garden. Well equipped for cooking too.

A lovely comfortable cottage in quiet location but walking distance of dog friendly pub and a great fish and chip shop ( we were able to order online no queuing). Great to be able to walk out of the back door straight on to the dunes, the dogs loved it. Loads of different walks from the door. Hope to return next year

A stunning cottage with home comforts in every room. We walked in and felt very welcome and comfortable straight away. Our dogs had just the best time, they were able to be in all rooms with us and aLao able to walk out straight on to the dunes from the back door. The owners of the cottage know how to set up a very beautiful cottage for others to share.

Everything had been thought of in providing for the dogs Saved us the packing worry Even the frozen raw food we ordered was packed in the freezer for our arrival The welcome basket including birthday cake was a lovely touch and the dogs appreciated their toys and treats
Winterton is a charming old fashioned village and super dog friendly
We walked out of the back door and onto the dunes Spoilt for choice with walks and we loved watching the seals watching us

We spent a very relaxing few days at Hidden Gem in early August. Laura, Pete & Bella were very welcoming, especially to our two dogs. The treat baskets for the adults and hounds went down very well! Being able to go to the beach in a matter of minutes and eat in the lovely seafront cafe was great. We also found the guest books helpful in getting recommendations for places to visit. We will be back.

Wonderfully comfortable cottage for our two dogs and us two humans. The owners really have thought of everything that we might need and we were greeted by an amazing basket of goodies for us, and treats for the dogs. The dunes really are at the back door with easy access to the beach - even though we had to stop dune and beach walks as our two very young rescue lurchers were beside themselves with excitement and became pretty much uncontrollable on the lead!!
The courtyard garden is very attractive and comfortable. We did have to accompany the dogs every second in the courtyard as one of them can easily scale/jump the high fences from a standing start. She is like a cat. We were glad of the fans provided in the bedrooms as this fearless scamp could push open the windows to jump out so they had to be kept cracked open only.

This was a fantastic location. We loved it. Our pups loved it. To be able to walk out of your back door to the beach was the best. There was nothing the hosts hadn’t thought of and the welcome basket for us and the dogs was a perfect welcome.
The cottage is comfortable with plenty of room and nice views. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Hidden Gem is exactly that. Tucked away in Winterton, it’s a little piece of heaven. Stunning dog friendly accommodation where humans and their fur babies want for nothing- welcome basket was amazing!
The garden is a little small if you have a lot of large dogs but the dunes directly behind the house make up for it.
We love Winterton as it has everything you need for that perfect break.

We have just returned from a really lovely week at Hidden Gem with our two tired but happy dogs. We arrived to find not one but two welcome packs-one for humans and one for the dogs which was such a lovely touch. The cottage itself is set up with everything you can think of to make your furry friends comfortable-beds, towels, throws. treats, doggy bags, a first aid kit, tags with the name of the cottage on them, you name it. They also thought of the human visitors too-we were amazed by how everything seemed to have been thought of and especially really appreciated the beach kit, including an umbrella and wind break.
Best of all though is the amazing location-the back door leads directly onto the dunes, which are absolutely stunning, and just a few minutes walk from the very gorgeous beach. We saw deer outside the kitchen window most days and you could also stand there for hours just watching all of the different birds. We were extremely lucky with the weather which was glorious for most of the week and meant we could have a couple of beach days which we all loved, take some lovely walks and we also spent a half day on the Broads which was so relaxing and peaceful. The village itself has a very dog friendly pub and we also visited several other really lovely pubs locally for evening meals. The fish and chip shop is also very good, as is Poppy's tea room and the shop is very useful to have close by.
We were all really sad to leave, after having the most relaxing break, and we are now very keen to come back to this beautiful part of the world. The customer service from Sue and Laura was also top notch and I would definitely use East Ruston Cottages for breaks with the dogs again.

On our third visit to this glorious setting, the perfect weather, wonderfully comfortable new sofas and a fabulously chocolatey surprise 60th birthday cake made this celebration week a holiday to remember! We love walking over the dunes straight from the back door to this picturesque dog friendly beach. We didn't want to go home and we're already planning to book for our 4th visit very soon.

This was our first visit to Hidden Gem! It was a surprise 70th birthday present from family. What a ‘Gem’ absolutely perfect for us and our dog Tamar. Just a walk through the garden and you’re on the dunes for the beach. Lots of goodies supplied which were greatly appreciated. The cafe ‘Seal View’ was also very much appreciated by us after a walk on the beach.
A lovely log fire to relax in front of in the evening and a very well appointed kitchen. A comfy bed, what more can you ask for?
Enjoyed our 4 days so much we have already booked to return in October.

A wonderful place to stay, with everything we needed to make ourselves comfortable. There aren't many places where you can walk out of the kitchen door and be in the dunes within about 10 yards! There was a lovely welcome basket which, as it was the coronation weekend, had 4 beautifully decorated cup cakes and a souvenir tin of shortbread, along with other goodies, and another welcome bag for the dogs. There are so many great walks from the door step without having to travel and when we did go out in the car it was a quiet place to return to and relax.
We thoroughly enjoyed our week and would heartily recommend a stay in Hidden Gem

Such a lovely cottage, home from home, very thoughtfully equipped for dogs(and humans!!). Location ideal
For everybody, our dogs Lola and Lottie had a super time on the dunes and seashore. We parked the car on the Monday of arrival and didn't move it until we left on the Friday. Best of all you ordered the weather for us, no rain at all.

A cosy little cottage in a perfect location for beach holidays. Lots of dog-friendly touches (towels, throws, bowls etc.) and only a short walk from the village shop, tea rooms and pub. The welcome pack has lots of goodies for humans and dogs alike and there's a useful information folder about the local area, walks and attractions. A perfect retreat any time of the year.

Just back from a wonderful week at Hidden Gem. On arrival, the house was spotless and beautifully presented. Absolutely everything needed was provided and more. The welcome hamper for both the humans and the dogs was fabulous!
Walking out from the kitchen door over the dunes to the beach was just the best and we spent many hours doing just that. Highly recommended The Edge, the airstream cafe at the beach. Great coffee and great food!
Such a lovely place for some true rest and relaxation...the sound of nothing but the sea whilst dropping off to sleep can't be beaten!
I would certainly recommend Hidden Gem and definitely hope to return before long!

We have just a spent a week here and can honestly say it’s been the best holiday with our dog we have had. This truly is a dog friendly property.

The welcome pack for both human and dog is a lovely touch.

During our stay we explored places in the car but there is so much to do straight from the doorstep.

We will definitely be returning.

We're just back from a relaxing week at Hidden Gem. The location is perfect, the beach is 10 minutes gentle stroll across the Dunes. The village shop Has an Amazon pickup 'locker' perfect for those forgotten items (dog toothpaste). The cafe in the village Post Office is very popular and the food was excellent. We dined once at the village pub and in two local 'Lions', Somerton and Thurne, both a short drive away. Everywhere was amazingly dog welcoming as was the cottage. We were sorry that the Airstreams in the beach car park were not open when we tried to have lunch there. I guess autumn opening hours had kicked in although it was still lovely and warm in early October. Throws and towels for the dogs no "no dogs allowed on the furniture" policies here. A welcome pack for the dogs with toys and hand made biscuits and goodies for us as well. The cottage was warm and welcoming, comfy sofas and beds for everyone and everything you might need in the kitchen though as a matter of policy and to ensure marital harmony I do refuse to cook on holiday! The owners were responsive to a couple of minor niggles when we first arrived and very understanding when our dog decided that one of the door stops was in fact a dog toy!

This cottage was gorgeous, immaculate in every and the joy of being able to walk out of the door and on to the dunes with the dogs was unbeatable.
The village is just perfect, everyone was so nice and an evening walk to the pub was a delight. The pub is great, the waiter walks round with dog treats for all the customers!
My only quibble is that the mattresses on the single beds were not suitable for larger people really but the double bed was lovely, especially in the mornings looking out over the dunes.

Hidden Gem is the absolute experience for long coastal walks with 5 active beach loving dogs! The cottage itself was very well appointed, clean, comfy and welcoming. On arrival we were presented with a fantastic welcome pack with everything necessary to save us shopping for a couple of days. Even the doggies were catered for with treats and toys! We visited Fisherman's Return for drinks frequently; Poppies, beach cafe, Poppylands (loaded with 1940s memorabilia and really quirky!) for brekkie; dinner at The Lion West Somerton (on the outside looks bit tired and in need of tlc but if you can get past that) delicious food and service (100% recommendation!); dinner also at The Farmers, Ormesby st. Margaret - excellent. We visited Great Yarmouth and Norwich and did a Treasure Trail (www.treasuretrails.co.uk) - great fun (liked Norwich Castle especially as very historical and interesting- detective mystery with clues).

Dogs and humans had a wonderful week after being welcomed with all kinds of treats on arrival. Spectacular sandy beach and miles and miles of dunes for walking, bird watching, seal spotting and zoomies. All round excellent and thoroughly recommend East Ruston Cottages.

We have stayed many times before . A fantastic cottage always clean and has everything you could need. We had some really lovely welcome goodies for us and our dogs. You can walk from the cottage across the dunes to the beach , so nice we didn’t need to move the car all week . Would definitely recommend this :)

arrived later than planned due to traffic but the cottage was welcoming with a basket of logs ready for the fire
lovely welcome pack and one for the dogs as well
everything you needed was provided with dogs beds and throws for the furniture
there is a tassimo coffee machine with pods of coffee and hot chocolate on the side and milk in the fridge
from the kitchen door you are straight onto the sand dunes with miles of tracks and easy access to the beach and then back for them to laze in the garden and conservatory

We stayed at Hidden Gem for a week having one booked it “last minute” 10 days previously. The cottage was delightful with everything provided that you could need for yourself or your dog. It was warm and comfortable with delightful home from home touches. It is lovely that dogs are so welcome in the cottage with beds, crates, throws all provided should you or your faithful friend need them! We walked from the back door of the cottage straight onto the dunes every day and our dog had the time of her life. The little front garden is secure to let your dog out confident in the knowledge they cannot escape. We would definitely return to stay when we are able

East Ruston Cottages are properly dog welcoming. My dogs and I stayed at Hidden Gem, a charming cottage in a friendly small village, Winterton-on-Sea.
The cottage had spacious bedrooms and a large kitchen too. There was a super sunny (nearly all day) conservatory the dogs adored to catch the warm sun's rays in. Dogs are allowed on the furniture and beds with throws, which are provided. In fact, dogs are well catered for, outside small garden easy to clean, outside tap, toys, bowls, tags, leads, towels and more. Saves you bringing lots of dog luggage along.
You don't need to bring your own kitchen or cleaning stuff either, cottage is well stocked.
It's warm with a log fire too.
General store nearby, dog welcoming pub, chip shop,
tea rooms, post office.
Whilst I was there the village hall was showing a film on Saturday and the beautiful church serving pancakes on Shrove Tuesday. Real village life.
Many interesting villages, towns, btiads , beaches and places to visit nearby. Lots of dog friendly pubs and cafes too.
We only ventured further once because with several dogs and miles of dunes which lead to miles of beaches directly accesses from the rear of the cottages dog walking was a breeze from the back door. It was quite quiet on the dunes and beach but the few people I met said Hi, chatted and usually had dogs too.
If you want to alternate between walking and relaxing, with nearby places of interest a sort drive away, in a homely place, I recommend here!
This is my 2nd visit to East Ruston Cottages. It's a long journey for me, 6 to 7 hours, but worth it for such dog friendly accommodation.
We are back for a third visit this summer, in a bigger cottage as bringing 5 humans and 7 dogs next time.
Hidden Gem was a real jewel in East Ruston Cottages Crown for us as I was on my own with several pooches so access straight to the dunes was ideal. No in and out of the car needed. , However there are many East Ruston Cottages to choose from, all sizes, locations.....take a look and I'm sure you'll find one to suit you and yours x

Hidden Gem really is a Hidden Gem.
Great location leading straight onto the dunes and 3 minutes walk to the beach.
Brilliant for Children and it's perfect for dogs.
The accommodation is excellent with everything you need especially for the dogs.
Very clean and comfortable. The small garden is lovely and would be nice sitting out there in the summer but unfortunately it was to cold in February to take advantage of this.
Great pub 5 minutes walk away serving nice food.
We would definitely stay at the Hidden Gem again and would highly recommend it.

We have just returned from 3 nights at the Hidden Gem in Winterton with our four legged companions. From the moment we arrived we felt spoiled with a beautiful welcome hamper with goodies for all of us, fur babies included.
The cottage was spotlessly clean and toasty warm on our arrival on a blustery January evening. We headed straight out onto the dunes to catch the last of the light and have a quick leg stretch before checking out the local pub and then settling in for the evening.
The location of Hidden Gem can’t be faulted with the back door opening directly onto the dunes which our houndies absolutely loved. A short walk to the local pub, shop and chip shop through the local village meant we had all we wanted on our door step. It’s beautiful in January, I bet it’s stunning in the summer!
This is our second time booking with East Runton Cottages although our first trip to Winterton, and we were not disappointed. Can’t fault anything, looking forward to the next trip!

A delightful cottage backing straight on to the dunes at Winterton. Everything you need with very thoughtful welcome baskets for both humans and dogs. Very comfortable and cosy cottage. The weather wasn't good enough to make use of the outdoor space unfortunately.
Personally, it's a shame it doesn't have a king size bed rather than a double and the shower could be more powerful. But, overall really lovely. Enjoyed our break very much.

I had planned a birthday treat for my wife (that had to include our two beagles AND close proximity to the sea and big sky).
Hidden Gem appeared to hit all the requirements and was sited in a Norfolk location she enjoyed many times as a child.
As with many of the best laid plans ours unraveled at the very last moment; our youngest daughter was unwell and we could no longer leave her unattended.
To add to the challenge we could not leave her collie pup either.
So in a short space we were going from a booking of two adults and two dogs to three and three!
No drama from the owners and ERC, booking changed on the morning of our stay, extra bed made up and to top it all off there was a basket of goodies,(all vegan in line with our diet), flowers and a birthday card for my wife and a complementary bag of treats for the canines.
If you have dogs this is a stunning location with the freedom of the dunes for them to explore (with a key responsibility during our visit to contain them under control to protect the seal pups peppered across the beach ahead of their first adventures) and every possible facility catered for within the cottage.
To be fair the humans don’t suffer too badly either!
As my wife’s birthday follows mine by a week we were enjoying a short break in the winter; in early January. We were blessed with some fine weather (the sunrise on the Sunday - enjoyed with a Tassimo coffee and the exclusive company of my wife - was stunning) and solitude.
Can’t help feeling this might not be the case in Spring and Summer though ( the solitude bit not the sunshine!)
The cottage is in lovely condition and spotlessly clean and, with its later additions, perfectly proportioned for a family and hounds break. (I’m sure we’re not the first to begin planning a retirement downsizing exercise whilst enjoying the facilities. )
It has everything available.
I had planned ahead with batch made frozen vegan meals, easily accommodated in the full sized fridge/freezer, and we were able to enjoy a cracking Sunday roast during our stay courtesy of the facilities; complemented by drinks in front of a roaring fire in the log burner in the lounge afterwards.
The conservatory at the front of the cottage, abetted by the kind provision of dog crates, proved an ideal area to bed down the hounds overnight and meant their evening and morning ablutions were catered for ideally in the front yard.
The village shop, post office and tearooms were all open during our stay and could provide for most needs with really helpful long openings considering the season.
We didn’t try the chippy as we were deterred by reviews that suggested the cooking medium was beef fat.
In summary I think I’ve got the booking to thank for winning the best (and most time appropriate) birthday pressie ever and the look on my wife’s face as the weight of the world slunk off her shoulders during that sunrise was worth ten times the cost of the break.
Faultless.
Only problem you’re likely to encounter?
An available slot to book this cottage for yourself due to its obvious popularity.
Looks like we might just be able to snaffle another break in March if we’re quick!

I could not recommend highly enough, Hidden Gem provided the perfect base for a relaxing week's holiday. Given the dark evenings in November, comfort of the accommodation was more still as we spent all but 2 evenings indoors. I would say that it's a 'home from home' but in actual fact, Hidden Gem is considerably more cosy, well equipped and inviting than my home (not to mention cleaner).
Our 4 dogs quickly settled and enjoyed our lazy, warm evenings after their exhausting days exploring the impressive surrounding countryside.
Having no prior knowledge of the area and it's wildlife, we considered ourselves blessed to have accidentally seen the grey seals within the 10minutes of first leaving the cottage.

Hidden Gem is the cosiest cottage I have ever stayed in. It is so welcoming and the owners have gone out of their way to make you feel at home.

It’s in the perfect location, right next to Winterton beach and my two dogs absolutely loved bounding over the dunes each morning.

The communication prior-to and during our stay was second to none. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this cottage in beautiful Norfolk.

The cottage is fantastic and in a brilliant location. The back door leads straight onto the dunes and then the beach. It feels very homely and we would all happily have stayed an extra week.

We were looking for a quit place to enjoy time with our dogs. And what should I say … just find a perfect match. Perfect to walk with the dogs. A perfectly and lovingly furnished and decorated. Also everything what you need for dogs is there.

Lovely place to stay for a relaxing holiday, we have had a great time. So convenient for the dog friendly beach, cafe, pub and so many walks right from the door. Hidden Gem has everything. We loved it and so did our three dogs they were so happy here. The house is lovely and clean with a great garden to sit in too we can't wait for our our next holiday.

What a wonderful cottage to stay in , sand dunes and beach just behind the property which our dog Jasper was absolutely delighted with. Property clean and comfortable with great facilities and fantastic location. On arrival a much welcome hamper was awaiting us and also one for our dog, nothing like having milk readily available for a cuppa after a long journey!!! Would highly recommend this property and location , village had all necessities including a lovely cafe and great pub. Will definitely be booking a return break in the future.

Felt at home from the moment we arrived and so did the dogs.
Cottage was lovely and had everything and was far better equipped than we ever imagined. We were amazed at the attention to detail.
Location was fantastic backing onto the dunes and the dogs loved every minute of their walks!

We had just spent 16 months shielding so were a bit nervous about going away but as soon as we walked into Hidden Gem we knew it was going to be good ! It felt so welcoming and everything has been done so thoughtfully and with love. Beautifully decorated and so clean. Covid protection excellent, we felt so safe there.There is everything you could possibly want and then some . Not to mention the wonderful welcome pack and gift bags , not just for us but the dogs as well !
Our two rescue dogs settled in very quickly, we all loved our walks over the dunes and on the beach ( what an amazing beach ).We saw seals every day.
We had a lovely meal at The Dunes Cafe and enjoyed a drink at the Fisherman's Return.. Everyone was so friendly, this has to be the most dog friendly place we have ever been to.
This was our first of normal for a very long time and it was so hard to leave but we will be back !!!

Every time we come to Hidden Gem it feels like walking into our second home from seal spotting on the beach, to lovely fish and chips and a fabulous pub at the Fisherman’s Return, Winterton has everything you need.

Cozy, beautiful views and everything catered for, from a welcome basket for Hoomans and Furbabies, all our needs were met. We love it here

We loved our stay at Hidden Gem, it is aptly named as it is close to everything but tucked away in a quiet spot. Very dog friendly, our dog Albus loved the treats left for him. We loved ours too ! Winterton is a favourite of ours and it was great to be so central to the shops, fish and chip shop and of course the pub, we had lots of car free days walking on the beach and following some of the walks listed in the cottage. Can’t wait to return.

We love staying in Winterton and found this lovely little cottage which is situated a few steps from the dunes and beach. The cottage is comfortable and cosy with bright kitchen, lovely modern bathroom and cosy lounge and conservatory on the ground floor and two nice bedrooms, one double and one twin. The dogs absolutely love the dunes and beach where they can run free for miles! The cottage is extremely dog friendly. Only a very short walk to the pub, shops and cafe and restaurant . The only slight disappointment was the garden which could be updated but as we were there in October we didn't actually use. The owners of the property were the most helpful I have ever come across when booking and dealing with queries and there is plenty of information in the cottage on the surrounding areas. Would recommend!

Our first time in Winter on Sea and after finding the cottage we were very impressed with the cottage. Comfort and cleanliness were really good. Well equipped and dog friendly. Would recommend this cottage as the position for the sea is really good. Out of the back door which is the sand dunes and a five minute walk onto a superb beach. Great for seal watching.

Best holiday cottage location we have experienced to date, that said, Hidden Gem had so much more to offer than just the location. It is the first holiday let where we have wanted for nothing in terms of everything you could possibly want in a holiday cottage was to hand, from kitchen tin foil, to a beach windbreak.
Lovely small sheltered back garden to grab some afternoon relaxation time with a book and a cold drink. The attention to detail with the interior decor and maritime theme was amazing. We would definitely stay again. A most appropriately named property.

Thank you for your review on your recent holiday marking 5/5 for cleanliness, very reassuraing for future guests and for 5/5 for location! We believe your lower marks were for size of beds, sofas, downstairs loo and only small garden area (enclosed), however all property details are described on the website, with regard to value for money, pricing is moniotired by ERC based on similar sized properties in the area, how many people can be accommodated and will differ throughout low, mid and peak season. Sue Allen has now also added an extra tool on the website to filter even more personal requirements that hopefully can help guests when looking for future ERC holidays along with her pre and post holiday emails.

Wow this property really is a “Hidden Gem”
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, wonderful walks across the dunes to the sea, pit stop at cafe on the beach, the dogs kept staring at the kitchen door, clearly making it known where they wanted to be. Kitchen well equipped, beds and sitting room really comfortable for humans and dogs alike. Short stroll to the fish and chip shop, convenience store and pub, pretty village and not an amusement arcade in sight. Would recommend highly to anyone looking for a peaceful hideaway

A cosy little cottage, well located for the beach, a dog-friendly cafe and pub. We visited in March but it would be great any time of year. Very dog friendly but it is quite small so multiple large dogs may be a problem. Also there isn’t much enclosed outside space so again it maybe better for smaller dogs but of course it’s only a minute’s walk onto the dunes so they can walk/run for miles along the coast. Our dog loved it.

We have used East Ruston Cottages for a number of holidays now but this was our first at Hidden Gem. What a gorgeous little cottage, the owners have thought of everything. Tastefully decorated, very well equipped, lovely and comfortable and a great little log burner that burns beautifully :-) They even supply throws and towels for your dogs. The beach and dunes are straight out of the back door and there is great little coffee shop called Poppy's and the Fishermans Return pub which are both dog friendly and literally a couple of minutes walk away. Winterton itself is delightful. Super friendly village too. What's not to like.
Definitely will return soon.

Hidden Gem is a very special hideaway from all the stresses of the world. This property is just gorgeous and so lovely that everything for the dogs is also taken into account too with plenty of throws and dog towels provided.

A highlight for me was that the back double bedroom overlooks the dunes and just having the windows open and listening to the sound of the wind through the grasses combined with the sound of the sea is magical both in the day and at night to drift off to sleep to. The house has everything thought of for you and is very nicely decorated throughout. We all adored walking straight out onto the dunes from morning through to night for our dog walks and being so close to the sea is a bonus for those long, leisurely beach walks.

Lovely to have a cafe, tearoom and pub all in the village itself and all accepting and accommodating dogs whilst providing some gorgeous food too!

Nearby villages are easy to get to both by foot and car (depending on how energetic you're feeling).

This holiday had everything we could have wanted and more, so nice to also have a little welcome tray on arrival. Ours had jam, bread, apple juice, a jam roly-poly sponge and some Nero dog biscuits (which ours loved) as well as a pint of milk in the fridge and tea and coffee to get you started. It's so wonderful to walk in somewhere, instantly feel at home and to be able to have a cake and cuppa before unpacking.

Sue at East Ruston Cottages was brilliant to deal with throughout (not that we needed her whilst we were away but I'm sure if we had have she would have helped out without hesitation). The feeling we got was that Sue at East Ruston Cottages (and the cottage owners) go out of their way to make sure you have the most amazing holiday possible.

We will certainly be returning customers and will recommend to everyone we know

Wonderful cottage perfect setting for a relaxing break, if you are looking for a complete break from the usual grind this is perfect place.
Just my wife myself and our two dogs plenty of walks, walk out the back door and you’re in the dunes.
The village has an excellent chip shop and the food in the fisherman’s return was very good and good value,
All in all I would recommend the Hidden Gem and Winterton-on-Sea to any one and east Ruston cottages if you have dogs in my opinion are the best.

I have been a regular at Hidden Gem since it became a member of the East Ruston Cottages family. It’s really well equipped for humans and dogs, everything you need is there. The location is fabulous, literally walking out of the back door onto the miles of dunes at Winterton on Sea. No restrictions for dogs makes it a truly dog friendly stay, and to give you an idea of how much Laura the owner tries to ensure you have a great time, she left a birthday card for my girl as she knew we were there to celebrate her birthday. It has and continues to be one of my favourite places to be, never disappointed always delighted and sad to leave. Highly recommended.

Our dogs squeak with excitement as we approach Winterton-on-Sea in the car anticipation of their week at the beach, off lead dunes running available directly from the back door, what could be better?

Hidden Gem is lovely - but it’s all about the location. If you have lead reactive dogs and want to walk undisturbed, this is the place for you. Winterton’s cafe and pub welcome dogs of all sizes, and the beach is wide and safe for those with salty sea dogs. Spend a few days at Hidden Gem and feel like you’ve had a 5* spa break. Bargain!!

Our holiday was Fab-u-lous in every way.
Not one single dog hair it was spotless accommodation. The cottage had everything any doggy/owners could want. Beautiful location. Have just booked up for next year. Missing you already!

Brilliant location. Loved the Hidden Gem had the perfect holiday. Kids loved it and dogs. Loved all the extra dog touches in the house.

Our 3rd trip to Hidden Gem and it’s like going home. Love Winterton-on-Sea along with the Dunes Cafe and Fisherman’s Return pub ! Relaxing holiday a stone throw away from the beautiful beach. Would definitely recommend ☺️

Tucked away down and unadapted road is a blue garden gate through which you enter Hidden Gem. You go into the property via a conservatory with a tiled floor ideal for drying off wet dogs from a run on the beach and the hose pipe outside means you don’t end up with the beach inside. As you go through the property and into the kitchen the real wow of this place is evident the back of the property is directly onto Winterton dunes and all that wonderful open space for you and your dogs to explore. This is a well equipped fantastically located cottage and we have already booked to return next year.

Another wonderful stay at this delightful little cottage
Again we struck lucky with the weather and were abe to use the conservatory on a daily basis
being able to walk to the beach and not use the car is an added bonus
Winterton has an excellent fish and chip shop again only a five minute walk from the cottage
Can't wait for our return visit at the end of the year the dogs love these holidays and return home rejuvenated after their stay

Booked last minute via a lovely helpful lady at East Ruston Cottages due to family commitments. Often stay in Winterton and love it so knew the location would be fab. Cute cottage and exactly it’s name a Hidden Gem for sure. Very well thought out and equipped with generous welcome hamper and lots of useful information to enhance your stay. Very relaxing and the sea beach and dunes just perfect as always. Only grumble was late entry and a bit of a doggy smell in sitting room but cleaners explained previous guest had left cottage in an awful mess.

We adored this cottage. So comfy for us and our 2 hounds. Everything we could possibly want and the location was absolutely wonderful. Open the back door and you are on the dunes where miles of paths and see views are available for exploring. 3 minutes walk and you are on the beach. 3 minutes out the front door and you are in the middle of a lovely village and amenities such as the village shop. The cottage was geared up for dogs with throws, bowls, hard floors and a small secure garden for those night time outings. We would definitely like to come back....soon.

Our stay at Hidden Gem in Winterton-on-Sea was excellent. As a dog owner I chose to stay here because of the miles of dunes and sandy beach, which provided hours of fun!
Hidden Gem is just that, a perfect bolthole which is extremely dog friendly. Everything that you might need for your four legged friend is provided, all you need to do is bring your dog and his/her food! The cottage is really warm and cosy, and we enjoyed long walks and visits to Horsey to see the seals on the beach.
We really hope to return to this lovely peaceful spot, and make it an annual trip!

This was our second visit to Hidden Gem. The location is brilliant as it’s right on the Dunes. The walk from the cottage through the dunes to the beach is lovely; the beach is dog friendly and clean. Our dogs love running on the beach and watching the seals in the sea. The cottage has everything you could need with some nice welcome goodies for dogs and humans. We have already booked again for January next year!

My first visit to Winterton On Sea and couldn't have wished for a better place to stay in than Hidden Gem.
My one year old puppy loves a beach and the sea and has now fallen in love with sand dunes! Hidden Gem provides all three within about five seconds of leaving the door, straight out onto the dunes.
Hidden Gem is well appointed, very clean and seems to get bigger the longer you stay! The central heating is extremely effective but the log fire gives that extra bit of interest and comfort.
It has everything you need although a cupboard in the kitchen for food would help. However, for a week's stay the worksurface was ok and you can at least see where everything is!
The local Mace shop was excellent and well priced, and The Fisherman's Return pub was very dog friendly. The food and service was first class on my two visits.
In summary, thanks again to ERC for another excellent dog friendly stay and I am already looking forward to my third one in November!

Hidden Gem was Excellent we had 3 small dogs with us. From the back garden straight onto the sand dunes great for walking dogs. And after a good walk straight to the beach cafe where they do great breakfast.
We would definitely go again now that we ve found this cottage.
Thank you sue for this lovely holiday. September 14th / 21st 2018. ( Weather was very good for that week ).

Had a week at Hidden Gem and that is exactly what it is. There was no need to worry if you had forgotten anything as plenty if throws, bowls, leads, bedding and crates supplied. Just a 5 minute walk over the dunes to the beautiful beach. Cottage was spotless and spacious. Highly recommended.
