Our 4th stay here 6 adults 5 dogs. Everything we needed right there the dogs love the large garden and the house is perfect for walks and beach days. We will definitely be back next year. Everything you could need in the kitchen for family meals and lounge large enough to all sit on an evening.

We had a wonderful relaxing holiday in The Thatch Cottage. It was the perfect house for our dogs and for all the family. Just a really relaxed lave to be. Great garden a walking to the beautiful beach just wonderful. House just had everything you’d have at home. We all had a wonderful relaxing holiday. Thank you.

The garden is fantastic for dogs to mooch in and catharses a ball, and also games of family badminton and volleyball. Even our miniature schnauzer renowned as a great escaper didn’t find a way out. The walk down the grass track to the beach for a swim was a favourite of all the family.
The house is very characterful with enough room for our extended family to spread out and enjoy ourselves, the well equipped kitchen is great for whipping up family feasts. Another good annual family holiday

We love Thatch Cottage - we went as grandparents with our daughter and son in law and two children under 3 years old. This cottage is good for whatever age you are. The garden is ideal and enclosed so if you have dogs there are no worries. The welcome pack makes a big difference to your arrival. We will probably be booking again next year!

This was our 3rd visit to Thatch, have another one booked for October. Our dogs are rescue dogs all reactive to different things, the massive garden allows them to be dogs off lead and running around like loons and lots of quiet walks around us, very quiet beaches in easy reach. The house always feels very welcoming big enough not to be on top of each other kitchen well stocked with everything we needed. Rooms all very comfortable, and clean. beds very comfortable an easy to get a good nights sleep. Perfect place for family including 5 dogs to have a fabulous time. Roll on October.

The Thatch Cottage is truely home away from home. Everything you need for a self catering holiday is provided. The cottage is spotless. The garden is secure, and big! Perfect for big dogs! Great quiet location and walks from the house.

Three generations of us stayed in Thatch Cottage and it was just perfect for all of us and our two dogs. It is a beautiful, homely cottage fitted out with everything and more that you could possibly use. The lovely large secure garden is perfect for dogs and children to play in and old ones for relaxing in. Lots of lovely sandy beaches too, the nearest Cart Gap Beach was easily accessible one mile away down a lovely straight grassy track opposite the cottage to the sea which was just wonderful for the dogs daily walks. There are lots of lovely cafes and pubs, all dog friendly, and every one worth a visit. Thatch Cottage is not far from the Norfolk Broads with plenty of places to hire a cruiser and just wonderful countryside for dog walks.
Cannot recommend Thatch Cottage at Hempstead highly enough.

Thatch Cottage is beautiful and they have thought of everything to make the hoomins and wooflets comfortable. We were apprehensive about the garden being fully secure for 4 escape artist beagles, it was, meaning the hoomins could relax and let the hounds zoom around the garden without fear of them hopping over the fence to chase the pheasants!
Perfectly situated for easy access to the local beaches, of which there are plenty to choose from, and to all amenities within less than 10 minute drive (pubs, fish & chips, shops, cafes, etc).
The house is well equipped in the kitchen with all sorts of gadgets and gizmos, some I confess I don't know what they were.
We had an incident with a leak in the airing cupboard which triggered a power cut. Sara was swift into action to get it sorted, which it was. Upstairs king bed could do with a matching size duvet to duvet cover, and fix the bed slats so they don't move, otherwise you land up sandwiched in the mattress (with much sniggering from wife)!
The sitting room was very comfortable and cozy with the electric fire. One suggestion would be to add a DVD player to the main sitting room as the snug can only really accommodate two people sitting in there which means you have to find something on TV or log into Netflix to enjoy a movie night together.
Watch out for the low kitchen door and sloped ceilings upstairs. Hubby is 6ft5 and did bang his head a few times (with much sniggering from wife)!
We had absolutely relaxing and enjoyable stay and would love to come back.

We absolutely loved everything about Thatch Cottage. Beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean, lots of room to spread out, super dog friendly and a large enclosed garden for the dogs to let off steam. It’s also really well placed for walking to the beach or pub, and close to everything you’d like to do in this part of Norfolk. It had also been decorated beautifully for Christmas both inside and out. The complete peace was such a wonderful respite.
On top of all that, I had an accident right at the end of the holiday, and Sue from ERC and Sara the owner of the property both went way above and beyond anything we’d ever expected, to help and support us and the dogs through some very difficult days.

Thatch Cottage was beautifully decorated for Christmas and on our arrival we found a wonderful hamper full of goodies, mince pies and mulled wine on the hob all waiting for us!
It’s a wonderful space for being together but has so many options if you need some time out, with a separate room for watching movies and another for reading - so you never feel on top of each other.
All of the facilities were great - eg hot water, heating etc… Comfy beds too…
The garden was fab - we stayed in December - so can only assume it’s wonderful during the summer - totally secure for the dogs.
A short walk down to the beach or to the pub which was great.

We drove over to Norfolk in the worst weather we have ever driven in floods and trees down in lots of places. We got to Thatch over 7 hours later. Got into cottage and whole area had a power cut, ‍♀️ it carried on into Saturday but Sarah ( owner) went above and beyond so the guys could watch the rugby. It was a very wet week but lots of fun with the dogs in the massive garden and so many places to get to easily. It was just what we all needed, warm, comfortable and homily we already booking our next visit. Thatch is a quirky cottage we love it.

We have stayed at a few of the East Ruston properties and never been disappointed. Thatch Cottage certainly did not change that opinion.

Warm and inviting, Thatch provided a lovely comfortable base for the week for humans and dogs alike. There are nice walks from the door either taking you round a track to the rear or the one to the beach just a few yards from Thatch's gates.

Inside the house was lovely, the lounge and the bedrooms were comfortable and the kitchen was a good size for the 4 of us to sit and eat in rather than use the dining room. The Utility area was great for keeping the dog food shut away as well as useful space. Watch out for the height of the door into the kitchen though, it is very low!

I was a bit worried by the sloping ceilings in the bedrooms and landing as we are all tall, but we had no problems. Bedroom 4 with the 2 beds is a bit quirky but perfectly adequate and comfortable.

Outside the lawn was lovely and we were lucky to still have weather to be able to sit outside the kitchen door with a cuppa and a piece of cake despite it being October. Remember the front garden is not secure for the dogs but its pretty and there is plenty of room for the cars.

Would I recommend it - yes definitely and Would I stay here again - another big yes!

My oh my where to start! From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were in awe of how beautiful Thatch Cottage was.
Literally everything was catered for, the garden is beautiful and perfect for dogs, short drive or walk to beaches and so so close to a multitude of dog friendly places to eat & visit.
Safe to say that none of us wanted to leave and we will definitely be back!

What a wonderful dog friendly country cottage with a large grass garden. A hamper of goodies on our arrival was an unexpected and lovely touch.
Thatch Cottage has lots of space. There were 7 of us and a dog and we all felt we had our space when we wanted it.
Location wise, we were walking distance to a sandy beach, away from the main crowds and a short car journey to other places of interest and the broads.
We all had an enjoyable stay and were made to feel very welcome. Thank you!

Had a fantastic holiday at Thatch Cottage. Couldn’t t have asked for more - even the weather was brilliant. Beautifully clean and good standard throughout. Well planned for self catering. Garden was great for the dogs, safe and space to run. Beach was a mile walk each way but five minute drive to a car park at the beach. Would love to return! Had a lovely week enjoying the beautiful house and garden at Thatch Cottage. The location was great - an easy walk along a quiet bridleway to the beach at Eccles-on-Sea and within a short car journey of other excellent stretches of dog-friendly beaches.
The garden is expansive and secure and will be beautiful in the later Spring when blossom is out (particularly on the magnolia tree in front of the house).
Everything we could possibly need was available in the house - it was lovely to be able to gather in the kitchen to cook and eat together after spreading out around the house for reading (or naps!) after a good dose of fresh air. Plenty of comfortable places to relax too.
Dogs are very well-catered for with extra beds, towels, bowls and a warm outdoor shower to clean up the sand (and mud after the soggy snow we had!). Fabulous, and thoughtful welcome basket and friendly owners on hand if needed.

Highly recommend this beautiful cottage for anyone wanting a quiet, rural location perfectly set up for multiple dogs. The garden is secure and accessible straight from the back door, kitchen or snug. Even in January we enjoyed sitting outside watching our 5 dogs running around happily. There is an hot dog shower and the owner supplies throws, dog beds, bowls and even spare leads. Inside the cottage is cosy but spacious with so many lovely features and quirky surprises like the little hidden staircase! The walk to the beach, right from the gate is ideal for daily stretches. Educate yourselves about tide times however and be aware that direct accessibility onto the beach (unless you walk further) depends very much on tide. We saw some spectacular waves!!
The cafe and pub opening times in winter are different to spring and summer but the little RNLI shop in Cart Gap was open for little gifts, coffee and cake. Overall a very happy experience in a beautiful cottage.

We had a fantastic stay at Thatch Cottage for our daughters first Christmas, I would highly recommend the property to everyone!
The house was perfect for our requirements; plenty of space for myself, my partner & our 3 month old, plus my mother in law and our 2 dogs. We also had my partners 2 older children visit for a night and there was plenty of room for them as well.
The two tv rooms meant there was space for everyone to relax and take some time away when required.

The kitchen was very well equipped and I was comfortably able to make Christmas Day lunch for 6 people - always a concern when not at home for the big day!

The garden is great for dogs and very secure - we did wake one morning to find a pair of deer in the garden so kept the dogs inside until they had vacated, but it was a lovely surprise. Location wise, we walked to the beach a number of times (the beach is BEAUTIFUL by the way), and also over to The Star Inn pub. I grew up locally so it was lovely to be able to visit places I know well and see friends.

Both teams at East Ruston Cottages & the property owners were lovely and super helpful, letting us know we were able to check in early and answering any questions we had during the stay.

As I say, we had a fantastic stay and I would definitely come back again; it was a wonderful first Christmas and I highly recommend a visit.

A nice little thatched cottage, well appointed and clean. Vodafone Mobile 3G/house BT internet Signal is an issue here so if your needing to keep working or in touch etc you may struggle. Staircases are very steep as expected in an old property, so consider with children and elderly, however the property does have a ground floor bedroom with en-suite. The large garden which is fenced is ideal for large dogs and children, if you have toy/miniature breeds they can get through the large gauge livestock wire fence and also under the side gate. The bridle path to the beach takes a little longer than the 10 minutes stated in the information pack and takes approx 20mins especially carrying beach chairs etc found it easier to drive to Cart Gap 5mins
Everything you need to have a great holiday is a short car journey away and the property is ideally located for deliveries, Takeaways, pub and a Tesco supermarket.
On the whole an enjoyable stay.

What a beautiful thatched cottage. The garden was absolutely amazing for our 5 dogs to run round and then sleep for ages.
The cottage is big enough for a big family with plenty of rooms and bedrooms and a bug kitchen...
The peice and quiet was just what we needed...
The beds were so comfy..and the staircases were great to keep the dogs from going upstairs..

From the moment you turn into the driveway at Thatch Cottage you know you’re about to experience something special. Thatch cottage is stunning. We found it spacious enough for 5 adults, 2 children and 2 spaniels and we still had space to do our own thing or come together - enjoying meal times and games evenings together.
The house is very well equipped and very much a home from home. Just be mindful that it is a cottage with very thick walls, so don’t be disappointed if you can’t connect to WiFi in various parts of the house.
We all enjoyed the garden, being blessed with stunning weather. Our 2 dogs in particular loved the huge, secure space in which to ‘spaniel’ and the humans enjoyed several games of football and cricket.
We all loved the proximity and easy walk from the cottage to Happisburgh beach and the beautiful beach walks, which naturally included a pit stop at The Hill House for refreshments.
We have already booked for Easter next year and cannot wait.

This cottage was so well equipped just like the owners had nipped out. The very large secure garden so excellent for the dogs and peace of mind for us knowing our dogs were safe. When they say dog friendly that is what they mean. Not dog tolerant like a lot of cottages.
Thank you for a lovely week for 2 and 4 legged holiday makers.

Thatch cottage was a great place to stay for our family group of 4 couples. There are zones where we could be separate and zones where we could be together. It’s a charming cottage with an unusual and quirky layout . It’s very warm and cosy and not at all draughty.
There is absolutely everything that you could possibly need supplied for you. The furniture and furnishings are all quality items. I particularly liked that the bedding matched all the decor and wasn’t just plain white corporate/hospital style. A lot of thought and love has gone into this home.
We all slept well , the beds are very comfortable.
The kitchen is exceptionally well equipped and has an abundance of crockery and cutlery that made it very easy to cater for large meals.
The garden is very secure and we were happy that our dogs would be safe.
The area feels very quiet and safe and it was easy to walk to the beach. There are other charming places to visit by car within a short distance. The large Tesco supermarket is under ten minutes away.
We would definitely recommend the place to others and would like to visit again.

We have just spent 7 days at this beautiful cottage. It has everything you could possibly need. Even the dogs are fully catered for. The back garden is fully secure and there is plenty of parking at the front. The four lovely bedrooms have comfortable double or larger beds. We would definitely consider coming back.

This is the most beautiful house and we had a fantastic time. Our dogs just adored the garden which was fantastic for them. They were able to run around really safely and had a fabulous time. The location is great and the welcome pack was really lovely. We would definitely go back. Thank you.

Had a very enjoyable week with the family and 3 dogs, lovely cottage with a large enclosed garden. The beach was about a mile from the cottage. Definitely recommend the Lessingham Star for Sunday Roast, very dog friendly. The Dunes Cafe at Sea Palling great for breakfast and Lunch too.

We have just returned from our 2nd visit to Thatch Cottage and yet again had a lovely time although the weather could have been better!!
Sara, the owner was on hand to answer any queries that we had and promptly dealt with them which was great.
The house is very comfortable and very well equipped. The garden is a great size for both humans and the dogs!
We have booked with ERC several times and have never been disappointed. Would thoroughly recommend.

I really don't know where to start; this house is amazing! There were 8 adults and 5 dogs in our party and there was plenty of room for us all. The kitchen has everything you need: more than enough plates, cutlery, glasses etc; plenty of pans and utensils and even a Tassimo coffee machine. The utility room was a great place to store all our doggy equipment and the snug was lovely to sit and read in. All the beds were comfortable and each room included hairdryers. There are lots of DVDs, books and games to keep you occupied and also lots of spare dog leads, dishes and beds (there is even a separate bin in the shed for the dog poo!) Our dogs had a ball! They loved the garden and, with a footpath straight over the road that led directly to the beach, it was ideal for our energetic spaniels. We will miss our walks to Sea Palling and Happisburgh! Overall, a fantastic time was had by all, infact the dogs' tails didn't stop wagging all week! A big thank you to Sara (the owner) for popping in to check we were ok. We will definitely be back!

The Thatch Cottage was a wonderful base from which to explore Norfolk. It's a beautiful, well-maintained and comfortable cottage in a very peaceful location. The kitchen is well equipped and the separate utility room meant we could keep all the doggie paraphernalia out of the kitchen. The owners were incredibly helpful with our queries and it really felt like a home from home for a a week. We booked for a group of four adults, two young children and four dogs and there was plenty of room for everyone. As we had such wonderful weather all week, the only thing that would have made it better was a couple of sun-loungers for the garden!

Our 2nd fabulous stay at the gorgeous Thatch Cottage. Plenty of room for large families & a huge big garden for the dogs. The cottage is very well equipped with everything you could ever need & is lovely & cosy (it also stayed relatively cool during this last hot spell). This is the first time we have ever stayed somewhere twice & it definitely won't be the last. I also need to mention the downstairs superking bed! It is the comfiest bed in the whole of Norfolk! It really is like sleeping on a cloud that you never want to get up! A wonderful house in a great location with some great walks direct from the door. 5* everytime.

Stunning stunning stunning!
We booked our holiday with ERC over 2 years ago and due to the pandemic were unable to visit but luckily this May Half Term we had the green light.
Thatch Cottage is a true gem.
The kids and 4 dogs adored it.
The garden is beautiful and well maintained, the bedrooms were fabulous and the downstairs living was very generous.
We had a well stocked welcome basket on arrival and felt at home instantly.
The bridleway to the beach was seconds from the house and the beaches did not disappoint.
We truly enjoyed our time away and are looking to book again very soon.
Thanks to Sue who sourced us Thatch Cottage when our original house we booked was booked already when we had to postpone. Nothing was too much trouble and we all felt very safe and happy.
Thanks again to the ERC team.and the owners of Thatch Cottage for letting us live the Norfolk dream for a week xxx

We have just spent a week at Thatch Cottage. We were pleased to finally get there after having it cancelled last year due to covid. The cottage was lovely and the dogs enjoyed the garden.

We have just retuned (7th May) from a fabulous holiday and would highly recommend Thatch Cottage and East Ruston Cottages as a company to family and friends.
Thatch cottage is really spacious for large families and lots of dogs. The rear garden is secure and large enough to play with a ball and launcher, which our dog enjoyed.
All the necessary home comforts and extra touches for both humans and dogs are present. It was also greatly valued by our family that we were allowed to make our own minds up about leaving our elderly and well trained dog in the cottage whilst we ventured out for an hour or two without her. Most other cottage companies make sweeping generalisations about not leaving pets unattended and for those concerned there was even the numbers of dog sitters locally and a dog crate for our use if required.
The cottage location is great being just under a mile from the sea and locally there is much to see and do. We walked the Norfolk Coast Path, in Norwich we completed a town trail and visited the cathedral, hired a boat for half a day at Wayford Marina.
I do not hesitate to recommend both Thatch Cottage and EastRuston Cottages to colleagues, friends and family. We will use this company if we visit Norfolk again and would to love to stay at the same cottage.

Unfortunately we had to split our week in two due to the C19 restrictions of a maximum of 6 people at any time. But despite this we all had a great time. The garden was perfect for dogs, with plenty of space, safe & confined. The house was very comfortable (the children loved the bean bags) in a perfect location for a relaxing week. The footpath opposite the gate went straight to the beach, with another footpath running behind the property.

We all had an absolutely fantastic time at thatch cottage despite lockdown number 2 being announced on our second day there, luckily we got to finish our stay before having to come back home. The house was absolutely superb for us all lovely and spacious but also nice and homely at the same time, it was very cosy and relaxing. Location is perfect as the house is tucked away at the side of a country road with hardly any passing traffic, the footpath down to the beach is over the road... takes about 15 minutes to reach to beach from the house, so we didn’t need to use the car when visiting the beach so it was perfect. The garden is absolutely fantastic for dogs, nice big size and lovely and secure! So the dogs loved it and we didn’t have to worry about them getting out at any time. During our stay we had an issue with the cooker hob and couldn’t figure out how to use it, we sent Sue a message who contacted the owner promptly who then came over to the house to show us how to use it, so superb customer service! Overall we all had a fantastic time here and would love to come back in the future.

Despite the awful weather we have had a wonderful week. Thatch Cottage is a fantastic holiday home with plenty of space for everyone & a huge garden for the dogs. A lovely holiday in a beautiful cottage. Thatch Cottage has everything we needed for a perfect stay, plenty of room both inside & out. The children loved the snug area where they could watch TV or play on their own devices away from the adults. The garden was great for cricket, kite flying & a spot of hide & seek.
The green lane to the beach directly opposite the cottage meant it was a perfect location for the whole family. Pushchair friendly for the youngest grandchild & just the right distance for our elderly Spinone to enjoy her daily walk to the sea.

We have had a lovely stay in this beautiful cottage in Norfolk. We did not want for anything and was very fortunate to have some great weather. The dogs had a wonderful time in the very secure garden and we spent most of our evenings barbecuing and sitting out in the courtyard. There are some lovely places to visit and the broads are only a short drive away.
We would thoroughly recommend and we will certainly return again.

A beautiful cottage with plenty of space inside and out, there was a great welcome basket left for us on arrival. The cottage was very clean and well stocked with lots of cleaning products/anti bac sprays etc
Numerous rooms downstairs so if a large party booked this accommodation you would not all be on top of one another!
Close to Wroxham/Stalham for any shopping needs
I only scored it 'ok' for value for money as only 3 of us stayed here, so not a mega cheap break but if costs were shared between more guests it would definitely be good value

We started our holiday unsure of what was to come in light of the coronavirus outbreak. Lockdown started soon after arrival so we took advantage of the peace & comfort that Thatch Cottage had to offer, not to mention the fabulous garden. Our daily walk from the front door was wonderful down the green track to the beach. No issues with social distancing here. So very sad to leave this wonderful place to return to reality but look forward to returning to Norfolk again soon.

We had a wonderful Valentine's weekend with 4 children, 2 dogs and Storm Dennis! The owner, Sara, welcomed us and made sure we knew where everything was and how it worked. Despite the weather we enjoyed walks to the coast and saw seals bobbing in the water - but hardly anyone else. We will definitely have to come back to experience the cottage and beautiful area again. The welcome basket was very generous and our dogs loved the handmade biscuits! Thank you.

From the moment we walked through the door it felt like home! Comfy and cosy and the layout was perfect for 3 different families to be together yet have their own little bit of space. The kitchen was equipped with everything you could possibly need, along with a dishwasher which wasn’t listed on the details and the utility room had lots of supplies for dogs such as spare leads, bowls, throws and old towels. The rear garden could benefit from outside lights so that you can keep an eye on small dogs when out in the dark. The cottage was closer to many different beaches than I thought it would be and the rural location is lovely. All we could hear at night was the hoot of an owl. I definitely hope to return and just wish that short breaks were more readily available in school holidays.

We chose East Ruston as we had seen them on a social media page and afriend recommended them. Thatch Cottage ticked our boxes as not only is it our type of holiday cottage but it has plenty of bathrooms which is also an essential requirement for us as three couples.

From the moment we walked in we felt at home, it was comfortable, well equipped and cosy. The enclosed garden was perfect for the dogs and the cottage catered for them as much as for us. We all loved it.

The local pub in Lessingham was walkable, very friendly with good food and the beach was also walkable via a bridle path. Stunning beaches, dog friendly, perfect accommodation and the chance to see seals - we didn’t want to leave.

1st stay but not 1st East Ruston Cottages hol. Beautiful quirky house, massive garden loads of room for dogs to run around. So many beautiful places in easy reach. Well worth a visit. My brother and sister in laws 1st visit to the area. They loved Horsey beach with all the seals. Sea Palling, Eccles beach, Cart Cap, Cromer, to name a few of the places we visited. Also highly recommend Hillside pub at Happisburgh, the Sugar and Spice cafe, so many places to visit. What’s not to love. Happy humans, and very happy pups.

What a beautiful cottage! Just yards away from a country path walk direct to the beach at Eccles, it has everything you could want. Lovely garden looking over the surrounding countryside, but in fact you are minutes away fron the town of Stalham, and just short drives (if you actually want to leave this idle) to Wroxham and the other beaches at Happisburgh and Sea Palling. Comfy seating and beds, extra downstairs loo, an Aga to give extra warmth, although there was no need, the whole cottage is so cosy. Several exits to the garden, so if you go with dogs, you can come into the back hall having hosed them down with the very useful outdoor tap, and not disturb anyone else!
Trouble with East Ruston Cottages is that you want to go back, but you also want to try another cottage, although I think Thatch Cottage is on the top of our go back to list!

We stayed in September with our dogs and parrot and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. All dog owners need to know that the gardens are safe and secure when they book a holiday cottage and the properties that Sue manages for East Ruston Cottages provide this. The Thatch Cottage is across the road from an easy walk to the coast. We even asked for particular Ordnance Survey maps to be available and they were there waiting. In summary faultless accommodation. Thank you.

We had a lovely time at Thatch Cottage, the property was superbly well appointed and had a very cosy atmosphere.
Our dogs loved it too with plenty of secure space in the huge garden. The location was ideally suited to see the beauty of Norfolk with great ease and the local pub was a treat. Many thanks, we would love to revisit one day!!

Thatch Cottage was beautiful, homely and spacious and we loved its location. The garden was a great space for the dogs to tear around after each other. The only disappointment was the weather for the time of year.
