Lindale lies 5 miles south of the tip of Lake Windermere close to Grange over Sands (2 miles) and Cartmel (3 miles). A day at the beach is a short drive to Grange over Sands with its Edwardian promenade, there are a number of shops, tea rooms, restaurants and pubs in the village and Cartmel, famous for its sticky toffee pudding, the races and L’Enclume restaurant is a pretty village worth visiting. Lake Windermere with the Lakeside Aquarium, Haverthwaite Railway and Lake Cruises is a short drive. There are a number of walks on the doorstep and within a short drive and watersport enthusiasts can enjoy canoeing, paddle boarding, sailing and more on Lake Windermere.

Barn Owl Cottage is a traditional cottage located within a few minutes walk of the pub serving meals. The cottage boasts upside down accommodation with a vaulted ceiling and beams making it feel light and airy. It is comfortably furnished to provide a home from home within the Lake District National Park.

The cottage has gas central heating and comprises: Double bedroom and bunk bedroom (adult size beds, best suited to children). Bathroom with shower over bath, hand basin and WC. Washing machine in the hall.

First floor open plan lounge/kitchen/dining area equipped with gas oven and hob, fridge and microwave. The lounge area has a Smart TV with DVD player and dining table.

All gas, electric, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi available. Cot and highchair available. Private parking for 1 car. Enclosed lawned garden with patio and furniture.

My wife and I stayed in mid July 2024 and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The furniture is a bit dated but comfortable. The upside down layout makes for a warm stay and we were treated to bats outside the living room window at dusk each evening.
There was a welcome pack of tea coffee cakes and milk in the fridge which is always a lovely touch when it happens. There is everything in the lodge, including a dishwasher, washing machine, iron and ironing board. The double bed is very big and comfortable and a hair dryer is also available.
The lodge is a bit difficult to find at first, make sure you use the what3words ap to find it. The parking is a bit tight especially if your neighbour is inconsiderate and parks on the white line. There are visitor spaces that can be used if needed. The key access box has two buttons (either side of the box) that need to be pushed together to release the keys.
The lodge is very close to a number of attractions that are worth visiting. We had a lovely day on the the steam train and boat along Windermere. Most supermarkets can be found in Ulverstone. We would definitely stay in Barn Owl cottage again
