Caldbeck nestles in the northern Lake District at the back of Skiddaw, hence the locals calling the area ‘Back o’ Skiddaw’, with the towering mountain separating Keswick from Caldbeck. Caldbeck is a picturesque, traditional Lakeland fell village with duck pond, village inn serving locally sourced food and ales and a coffee shop offering afternoon teas and a range of delicious ice creams. John Peel, the famous huntsman of the 1700’s was born just outside of Caldbeck and the area maintains many links to his hunting heritage with the village church being his final resting place. The Caldbeck fells offer walkers the opportunity to explore the less frequented parts of the Lake District but still promises stunning vistas, Bassenthwaite Lake and Derwentwater along with the Solway Coast are just a few of the views you can expect to see on your adventures. Hesket Newmarket and Uldale are both within a 10 minute drive and have their own village inns and Bassenthwaite and Lake Ullswater are both a 20 minute drive. Caldbeck is a short drive from Carlisle, Penrith and Keswick for those who enjoy retail therapy and is the perfect base from which to explore the northern Lake District, Eden Valley and Hadrian’s Wall.

Sebergham Cottages nestle in 5 acres of landscaped grounds with woodland and lake features, just off the B5305, a 5 minute drive from Caldbeck. Once a farmstead, Sebergham Cottages is now a range of luxurious cottages sleeping from 2 to 12 people in individual cottages or larger groups over the 9 fully equipped holiday cottages each with its own private hot tub. The owners have thought of everything to make your stay truly memorable no matter what your age, with an outdoor children’s play park, outdoor games for all the family and an indoor games room with pool, table tennis and table football, no matter what the weather the children will be entertained. The cottages are luxuriously equipped and offer the latest technologies including smart TVs, DAB/CD/Bluetooth hi-fi units and complimentary wi-fi. Guests have complimentary access to North Lakes Hotel spa with swimming pool and ultra modern gym bike hire is available locally for your stay.

Braefell Cottage is converted from a Lakeland barn, full of character with beams and exposed stone work. There are 2 ground floor bedrooms perfect for guests who struggle with stairs.

The cottage has electric central heating and comprises: Open plan dining/kitchen fully equipped with everything needed to prepare a delicious family meal including electric oven and hob, dishwasher and microwave. Utility room with fridge/freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer. Double and twin bedrooms. Bathroom with shower over bath, hand basin and WC.

First floor: lounge with 3 comfy leather sofas around the wood burning stove, wide Smart TV. Second smaller seating area ideal for board games or relaxing with a book. Double and twin bedrooms. Bathroom with jet spa bath, hand basin and WC.

We stayed here for 4 nights and received a warm welcome from Gemma. There were 2 bottles of wine and biscuits waiting for us in the cottage which was a nice touch. The cottage was lovely and the grounds were beautiful and great for our 2 wee dogs who loved running about. We used the games room every day. We are thinking of going back next year. The only downside to the cottage was not having a walk in shower for my elderly mum.

Kirsty from forth stayed at Brae Fell Cottage, Sebergham for 4 nights in October 2024
