Tucked away in the northern corner of Cumbria close to the Scottish Border and Gretna Green, famous for eloping couples getting married over the anvil, you will find the hamlet of Netherby, 5 miles north east of Longtown. Gretna Green is now a chic restaurant and shopping destination, designer shops can also be found at Gretna Gateway Outlet Village a mile away in Gretna.

The area is perfect for guests looking for a break where they can relax and unwind yet easily reach all the tourist hot spots and attractions. The northern Lake District with Lake Ullswater, home to the Ullswater Steamers and Aira Force, is less than an hours drive, continue along the lake shore road and over Kirstone Pass to the popular towns of Ambleside and Windermere. Hadrian’s Wall is another popular attraction with visitors to the area, spend the day exploring Birdoswalds Roman Fort and reenact a Roman battle or marvel at the Roman artifacts in the museum. Spend sunny days relaxing on the beaches of the Solway Coast, no trip to the seaside is complete without fish and chips and Allonby is famous for its ice cream sundaes, the perfect treat whilst watching the sun set on the seas horizon. The Scottish Borders is home to many interesting villages, look out for some of the many festivals that take place regularly throughout the year.

The historic city of Carlisle is 10 miles away with all your high street shops, restaurants, pubs, cinema and theatre. Romantic river walks can be enjoyed through Rickerby and Bitts Park in Carlisle or along the River Esk in Longtown. There is a choice of 4 golf courses all within a half hours drive.

Fern Barn Cottages nestle in the grounds of the owners listed mill house amongst perfectly manicured gardens and on the banks of the Carwinley Beck meandering through the grounds. Tucked away from the crowds Fern Barn Cottages is perfect for a romantic getaway at any time of year where couples can enjoy hand in hand walks along the quiet country roads or simply snuggle up in front of the TV after a relaxing afternoon in the hot tub whilst sipping champagne. The 5 individually styled cottages offer luxurious accommodation with their own private patio area and hot tub. Larger groups can rent the 5 cottages together (Beckside Cottage, The Heronry, The Snug, Reflection and The Chard) giving each couple their own unique space but close enough to enjoy each others company.

Overlooking its own pond filled with Koy Carp, The Chard is a luxuriously furnished micro cabin with hot tub and decking. The cabin has under floor heating throughout and comprises: Lounge with difolding doors leading to the covered decking, seating, TV, DVD player and dining table. Compact kitchen with fridge with ice box, portable electric hob, microwave and toaster. Double bedroom with en-suite shower room with hand basin and WC. The bifolding doors open up onto the decking with seating and hot tub, a lawned garden leads to the pond.

All oil, electric, bed linen and towels included. Parking for 1 car. Private patio area with hot tub and shared use of the communal grounds.

PLEASE NOTE: The hot tub is emptied and cleaned between guests so may not be up to full temperature on arrival.

It was a very relaxing place to stay and we would definitely go back. A few maintenance and cleaning bits to sort/improve with the towel radiator not heating, some lights not working, crumbs on the sofa, black mould around the edge of the shower floor but nothing that couldn’t be quickly resolved to improve the standard of this accommodation.

Booked a 2 night stay in The Chard and it is the most beautiful lodge with a large garden area, hot tub and its own fire pit and Koi pond. Very peaceful setting with lots of wildlife and next to the river, we even had a visit from ducks in the pond!
Contacted the owners to enquire about an extra night as was having such a wonderful time celebrating a 30th Birthday which was accepted.
Excellent value for money and will 100% be returning.
Thank you for a lovely weekend!

The most relaxing rainy weekend we've ever had. Stayed for two nights of pure laziness and loved every minute. Beautiful cabin, comfy bed, amazing shower and the hot tub was perfection!
It was a gorgeous quiet corner of wilderness just for us and the garden/little pond and surroundings were heavenly. We even managed to star gaze on the second night after a break in the clouds
The only possible improvement I could suggest is the option of a pop up canopy or pull over awning for the hot tub for heavy rain, but certainly no complaints as we loved it anyway and will be going back!

We are so pleased the rain did not spoil your weekend away, it has been a wet and blustery weekend. We hope we can welcome you back again in the future.
