Poachers Perch

Poachers Perch is one of the latest additions to the accommodation options at Tapnell Farm. It is an older style, family cabin, that has been newly renovated inside to create the perfect family bolthole for a relaxing holiday.

Fully insulated and heated, the Perch sleeps up to 6, and is available to rent for short or longer breaks all year round. It has all the amenities required for your stay, including an oven with hob, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, and free wifi throughout the cabin. It also has a sun deck at the front, which enjoys views up to Tennyson Down, and a shared garden area.

The sofas were very uncomfortable and there was little room in the bedrooms . The parking was extremely difficult as it was in a very busy road and we had 2 large cars. The accommodation catered for 6 people but there was only 6 cups, 6 glasses etc. it would be useful to double that number and for the cutlery to be increased too. That aside, we had a wonderful week and the staff were very helpful. The free eggs were absolutely delicious.

We had a lovely stay. Only a few things, when we arrived the key was in the door and it was open, felt that was slightly odd. We also wanted to use the oven which didnt work, so may need fixing. Also we went to the farm early and nobody was there to let us in when we were told we had an early entry? This did slightly dissapoint me only as it was mentioned and nothing came of it.

It was clean just the fans were very dusty, but all in all we were happy with our stay, I don't think I would 100% stay again, slightly unsure. I think its a good idea to offer free tickets to the park with the stay. I did love that there was milk and biscuits and coffee. As I said its so close to perfect.

Lovely stay and great location for exploring local area. It is a good uphill walk to the farm park and unfortunately one of our party was on crutches so relied on being driven up each day. Would benefit from a shower as there was only a bath and quite noisy with 5 adults and 2 dogs but great value and would recommend.

What a pleasure it was to come back to Poachers Perch. Easy to book and excellent communication prior to our visit.
It is a perfect base for a family to explore the Island, with the luxury of all the activities & amenities of Tapnell Farm Park on the door step. Such a bonus to be able to visit the park on several days over our stay for one fee. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and quiz night at The Cow. I am certain we will be back to stay again soon! :)

It was our second time staying at Poachers Perch, this time with more family in tow!
There was room for everyone and enough crockery in the kitchen - always handy!
Poachers Perch was cosy and comfy. Check in was seamless and the information pack makes great recommendations. We thoroughly enjoyed a meal at The Cow, just up the drive on the main site of Tapnell Farm. We would 100% recommend and will 100% be back!

Super cute cabin with amenities. Very relaxing, peaceful and comfortable. We arrived very late, and the cabin was nice and warm. The only downside was it took us awhile to find it because in the dark we couldn’t see the sign for the cabin, but we found it event

Also, located on a farm I would recommend this property, to my friends and family

Was a nice and suitable accomodation for the wedding we attended however value for money was interesting. Our place was very small compared to the lodge where our other family were staying yet theirs was only a small amount more than ours. The perch was cosy for 4 people (adults) and would feel squashed with 6 people.

I booked this on a last minute whim for a short break and it did not disappoint.

It is cosy, warm and great for a family to spend some time relaxing. The Tapnell farm that is located next door is fantastic for kids and adults to spend some time at with great staff and a fantastic restaurant.

I can imagine in the summer this place is even better with the deck chairs, BBQ and fire pit looking out to the stunning views.

It would have been good if some board games are provided and some alternative milks but there is a Tesco just down the road.

We stayed for a wedding at East Afton Farmhouse and had a truly wonderful weekend. They lodge was spotless and it had all the amenities we needed including milk in the fridge upon our arrival! Thank you so much for providing such a lovely setting for our weekend - we had a blast!

I stayed at the property with a group of friends. The lodge is really well equipped and cozy. Kitchen has everything you need and outside there is a BBQ. It was lovely to find all the equipment for the bbq already at the house. Check-in/out was really easy and the hosts provided a lot of useful information on stuff to do on the island. Highly highly recommend

Tapnell farm is definitely a place to stay for a holiday with family. This accommodation is away from the main farm but has got everything you need,nice clean towels, washing up things,dishwasher,washing machine, airer, bbq included charcoal ect..don't forget your marshmallows & sticks. Veiws are out of this world,feels like your abroad. Staff are amazing, aqua Park a must & try other sports too. We will be booking again.

Booked Poachers Perch over the bank holiday weekend for three adults and two children. The cabin is set a short and picturesque walk from the farm park with its wonderful Cow restaurant which is a treat. The cabin itself is cosy (if a little bit tired) and well equipped, though did miss having a second bathroom. However, we had a delightful stay and the children loved all the generous treats provided, especially the chocolate fondue for the barbecue which they really enjoyed. ..The cabin is well lit and heated with constant hot water and gorgeous towels provided. Would certainly love to stay there again if given the chance. Thank you Tapnell

Poachers Perch is cosy, snug and perfect for a family get away. Although we unfortunately had horrendous weather during our visit we loved returning to our warm holiday home.
There were some lovely generous welcoming tokens like the coffee pods and Clipper tea bags and our grandchildren loved the elephant towel arrangements!
Overall comfortable and cosy accommodation. Highly recommended.

We stayed for Christmas and from the very beginning the staff were very helpful. The lodge was beautiful, clean and cosy. Loads to do at the farm with a well stocked shop, enough for us to buy everything for our Christmas dinner! The views across the land are stunning and not far from the nearest towns. We also did the Christmas experience and it was amazing. It felt expensive when we booked but definitely worth every penny. We can’t wait to go back for the summer.

We stayed for 3 nights at half term. We can not fault Tapnell farm. Amazing for the kids. So much to do in all weathers. We also dined at the cow - which was excellent.

This accommodation was fantastic in terms of location. Walkable back to the farm. It was well equipped but I would describe it as needing a bit of a refresh. The main double bed was not comfortable - can feel springs in the mattress. Same with the sofa. I would say it was a high priced considering this as c£250 a night.

The eco lodges and other accommodation on the farm looked great so we may try them next time.

We enjoyed a lovely long weekend staying at Poachers Perch. 2 couples and one child. Scenic location to watch the sunset from the balcony while enjoying a BBQ.
Good location to explore the Island sites. Walking distance to a great restaurant - The Cow.

We were really impressed by the quality and cleanliness of Poachers Perch. It also had stunning views of Freshwater Bay from the kitchen window. We were very impressed by the thoughtful additional touches in this accommodation such as the towels made into elephants and the biscuits and milk left for our arrival. We stayed at "Poachers Perch" on the edge of Tapnell Farm. It's a nice, quiet spot with amazing views along the Down. The cabin had 3 comfortable bedrooms, with the double room having enough space for a travel cot. There is off road parking for one car, or perhaps 2 at a push! Everything was clean and worked in the cabin, with everything you could want for a self catering break. We were sad to only spend a couple of nights! There was free WiFi at the cabin (and across the whole farm site) plus a smart TV so the kids could still get their precious Netflix shows in the evenings! We would love to return in future, though the usual 3 night minimum makes that difficult in term time as it would mean keeping the kids out of school. I would say this is probably the best value accommodation at the farm, and with a special offer including ferry and farm entry our stay worked out to be good value.

Poachers perch was perfect for our three generational family, more roomy and comfortable than we expected with everything we required. The walk up to Tapnell farm was 5 minutes and there was so much for the kids to do, as well as us older folks. The go carts and sledges were particularly popular with the grandkids and the Aquapark session was the best family day of all! An added bonus was the large shared garden with the owners, which had a trampoline & football pitch which kept the children busy while we recovered, the owners children also playing with the grandkids when they were around. The Isle of Wight has a lot to see and experience but you could spend most of your time at Tapnell farm/Poachers Perch as so much to do.

We booked Poachers Perch over a year in advance and as a family were really looking forward to staying on Tapnell Farm. Poachers Perch is a little way out of the farm and advertised as such. Customer service from Chloe was absolutely excellent before we arrived.

Sadly though, we did feel that the property did not meet the our expectations given the price. There was no separate area to hang coats, put shoes or welly boots. The double bed in the main bedroom was lumpy and the sofas need replacing as were very uncomfortable.

The description on the website did not match the description in the folder of the property with regards to check out time, using The Cow restaurant and the farm park itself. I can only assume the folder was written during Covid and has not been changed back.

In our opinion, a few thoughtful changes to this property could really improve the holiday experience which would help people to feel they were getting what they paid for.

It’s disappointing when you leave London for a couple of days to have a home so close to the road you hear a lot of traffic. We felt it was reasonably comfortable but nothing special, pretty poor bathroom and shower, functional rather than in any way cosy.

We had an excellent stay at Tapnell farm. The crew there was very friendly and helpful and the location is great. Also the activities on the farm were great for our kids. We were there off season, so unfortunately some of the activities were closed, but we had a great stay.

We had a great time staying at poachers perch. The kids had a blast on Tapnell farm, and the location is off the main farm site so it does not feel like you are staying on a big attraction. Easy access from the road and close to the beach and shops in Freshwater bay.
Good functioning kitchen and great views of the sunset whilst having an evening BBQ. Would recommend

We had a wonderful stay - poachers perch was superb, though there are some areas of improvement we would recommend - the window paintwork is looking tired and some of the bedroom doors were stiff and would not close - the sofa is very soft and could do with replacing or foam improving. Otherwise the presentation and location was superb and the towel folding a lovely welcome!

We really enjoyed our stay at Poachers Perch, the location is beautiful and it felt nice to be a little out from the main farm.

The customer service is incredible, Chloe was very helpful from booking the holiday to out last day at Tapnel Farm.

The chalet itself is great too, we were surprised by the posh coffeemaker which contributed to my very positive experience! The bed mattress in our bed, was little old and would be great to have them changed. Apart from this I could not fault them for anything and I can't recommend them enough!

We stayed here at the last minute and the team were really helpful in getting this organised. We arrived quite late and found the property easily - parking space outside - and everything we needed already in there. Comfort beds, lovely linen, a spacious living area, coffee machine, BBQ. It was clean and welcoming. Bedrooms are small but perfectly formed. Might have felt more crowded if we’d been more than 2. Lovely views, beautiful interior, chic Scandi-cabin feel. My only suggestion would be different blinds on the windows as there were gaps that let the light streaming in from 5am. The garden is gorgeous and totally dog and child proof. Sitting on the terrace in the morning with tea and listening to the birdsong.. bliss. If you can get a booking would highly recommend!

Poachers Perch was perfect for us and our 3 kids ranging from 3 to 7. Great communication before our stay with all of the necessary details provided. As the weather was so great it was a treat to have a bbq and coals provided so we could enjoy time on the deck on one of the evenings. The kids loved their sessions at the farm park and the food at The Cow was fantastic on the two occasions we ate there. Lovely to have a great little farm shop for the essentials too. We will definitely be back again in the future!

Lovely little home from home on the farm with terrific views of Tennyson Down. Well equipped kitchen with everything we could possibly need provided for. The farm has a range of things for kids to do and you pay once to get in and have access for the whole week. The Cow restaurant is the perfect place to sink a beer after a day's activity with the kids. Poachers Perch itself is on the outskirts of the main farm so is a 10 min walk with a young family. It's also close to a busy B road and service road to the farm. Internet very patchy so load up on data if you want to keep the kids amused during the evening witching hour. But it's good value for the money and is reasonably well equipped (no chopping board, mind), comfortable and clean, plus the farm owners were kind enough to let our daughter play on the trampoline in their garden that neighboured Poachers. All in all, a great stay.

4 of us stayed at Poachers Perch for a long weekend and I have to say it's a lovely place. The cabin itself is nice and cosy and the beds were very comfortable. The staff were great and very knowledgeable, nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend staying at Poachers Perch or looking at the other accommodation provided as there's something for everyone. I will certainly look at visiting again in the near future.

We went in winter, so the weather was cold and wet, but we had a lovely time there. The cabin is warm and comfortable, with enough space for a family of 5 to be happy in. We didn't get a chance to fire up the BBQ, as it was just too wet for that, but the setup seemed really good and the neighbours in the farm house are very friendly.
The highlight for us was the access to the Tapnell Farm Park - we were there every day, I think. It's popular but not too crowded, and I really liked that the adults can take part rather than just having to sit back and watch the kids. The climbing wall, go-karts, and hay-maze were firm favourites, and when it was too cold, we went to the indoor soft-play area for coffee while the kids played.
Access to places like The Needles and Colwell Bay is very convenient, and Freshwater has all the shops we needed for our stay.
We'll definitely go back, probably for next year February half-term.

We had a great time at Poachers perch. The accommodation was clean tidy and equipped with everything we could’ve needed. Extra little touches in the farm park for guests who we’re staying were a really good touch I.e pay entry only once for your entire stay. So many different things to do for all ages on your doorstep.

This is our second time staying at Tapnell Farm and once again we had a fabulous break away! The Poacher Perch was fantastic! It has everything you need for and completely spotless! The staff are friendly and very accommodating I would recommend the Poacher Perch or any of the other accommodation to all my friends and family! Easy to book and we saved money getting Tapnell Farm to book the ferry. The Cow restaurant staff were very friendly and the food was excellent. The Cow restaurant also had a pool table and table football so the kids were kept entertained after dinner. The farm was child friendly with plenty for them to do. The honestly shop was also handy and responsibly priced. The sunsets views were spectacular.

Thanks so much for a lovely stay. Poachers Perch was great for our family with three young children. We especially liked the elephant towels when we arrived, collecting the eggs and the trampoline in the shared garden. We also enjoyed a few visits to the Farm Park, and the Shindig on the Thursday night.

Not quite what we expected. The walls were very thin and the bathroom not quite adequate for six people, particularly as the door lock was faulty. However the COW restaurant was excellent, food and service both good. We loved the Isle of Wight.

Wonderful first family holiday with all the many needs of a baby and pre schooler totally covered by the lovely Tapnell team.
The cabin is charming with a relaxed beach vibe with numerous family activities right on the doorstep.

Myself and 5 friends stayed here for one night as we were going to a wedding nearby. It was lovely and clean, with fresh towels, tea, coffee and milk all provided. After speaking to the owners we were able to check in earlier, so we could get ready. They were very helpful, and even helped booking our ferry crossing and got us a discount.
The views across the fields were wonderful and would definitely come back with my family to stay.

We have loved our stay at Poachers Perch - from the lovely cut flowers on arrival to the milk in the fridge, every thoughtful detail has made a difference. Wonderful short break with the kids, very comfortable accommodation with everything you could need. Kids had great fun at the farm every day. Wonderful evening meals at The Cow Co on site. We will be back.
