2 Dartview provides ground floor accommodation for one couple or three guests. Inspiring river views across the harbour and over to Kingswear, the apartment is just a couple of minutes' walk to the riverside and the town centre, as well as being en route to Dartmouth’s historic castle and the renowned South West Coast Path. Soft tones make for soothing bedrooms and crisp living spaces. You’re steps away from ancient Dartmouth and the town’s vibrant riverside. A parking permit’s also included.

Disappointing holiday apartment! We stayed here on September 18th until 23rd September 2023.

We recently stayed in 2 Dartview apartment in September 2023. The overall decor' is quite pleasant with a lovely river view from the lounge window. However, our stay was spoiled by the excess damp feeling in the main bedroom and wardrobe. It was so bad that we had to move our clothes into the smaller 2nd bedroom wardrobe to avoid any lasting damage to our clothes.
On investigation, later in the week, we discovered the soaking wet carpet under the bed, which appeared to come from an overflowing, makeshift de-humidifier, which was obviously very ineffective. On looking at the reviews in the guest manual, left by previous guests, 2 of the reviews also mentioned the same damp issue. One review was from 22nd July 23 and the second one was from 16th August 23. So obviously, this problem has been around for quite a while but nothing has been done to rectify the serious damp issue. As the situation got worse later in the week, we reported the issue to the office in Dart Valley Cottages as we didn't want the next guests to suffer the same issues. It certainly isn't very good for your health, to sleep in this very damp environment. We visit Dartmouth every year and this is the first time we have used the holiday company, Dart Valley Cottages. We will certainly not be using this holiday company or staying in No. 2 Dart View apartment again.

May I suggest, that you investigate the outside yard at the rear of the property, which is showing signs of mildew and excess water on the exterior wall and yard area. This is obviously seeping through to the main bedroom which is adjacent to this damp wall in the yard area!

This issue ruined our holiday and we feel that under the circumstances, that as you were well aware of the problem but sadly did nothing about it, that some compensation would certainly be in order.

Kind Regards. Ian and Margaret Bright from Cheshire.

Thank you so much for your feedback. We assure you that 2 Dartview does not have a known damp issue. The whole bedroom at the back was damp proofed earlier in the year. There is also a humidity fan for the bathroom. The dehumidifier was put in under the bed because the carpets were professionally cleaned before your stay. When you reported that you felt the carpet was wet we offered to send over our housekeeper to investigate. Unfortunately you refused this so we could only check the apartment when you vacated. The housekeeper could not find any issues with the apartment when she went in. This might be because as you stated the wet patch was due to a dehumidifier being tipped over and it then dried out. We also could not find any damp feeling within the drawers. In hindsight if you would have let us in when we you were there it may have been easier to judge it. I appreciate that you reading two previous reviews would lead to you to believe there is an ongoing issue however there has been over 20 bookings from June up until your stay. We have guests that come year after year. The only time we have had issues is when the bathroom fan gets turned off in error and then the humidity fan does not do what it is supposed to do. We want our guests to have a good time and ask you let us know if there are any issues immediately and then we will act in whatever we can to rectify issues. We appreciate though that if you did not want us to send anyone in while you were there.

This particular apartment did not suit our needs because of its location to the noisy front doors. As all age groups stay there, we were disturbed by the flats above and there late night returning. Therefore it did not suit our
ur age group.

Nice apartment. Great view.

This is a very nice apartment, conveniently situated near to shops, restaurants and Dartmouth's stunning waterfront. We started each of our three days stay eating breakfast at a table overlooking the view in the photograph. Fabulous.
The flat was well equipped with two settees, a good kitchenette, TV etc. The bedroom at the back was dark but comfortable if small. The bathroom had a shower over the bath and was spotlessly clean.
This was a great base for us to see Dartmouth's free music festival, taking place at various venues inside and outdoors, an amazing experience, all within walking distance.

Excellent view, albeit over rooftops, of the Lower Ferry and across to Kingswear. Also across the marina to Steam Railway comings and goings.

The property was clean and well presented. MINUS points; Rear, Large Bedroom, smelt musty on arrival and as it backs onto a cliff face a bit chilly in April. The radiator was ineffective/inoperative. After a day sufficient heat permeated from Living Room, small (single) bedroom and bathroom to make it bearable. NEST heat controller seemed to have a mind of its own and electric fire was necessary during evenings (in April).

Only one glass tumbler, and for "oldies" no teapot (used cafetiere!)

Very convenient for town and with a nice view. Bedrooms small and with little natural light. Main bed felt cold all the time and the room had some black mould in one corner of wall. Didn't use wardrobes as they smelled musty.

Nina at Dart Valley Cottages replied more than 1 year ago
We are so sorry that you felt there were some problems with the cold bed and smells of mustiness. We would have been very happy to come along and attempt to put things right had we known about these things during your stay. You are right, the bedrooms are relatively small and so natural light is not always apparent especially with an overcast sky. We do however hope that you will return to Dartmouth soon.

Clean and nicely located Dartmouth flat.

Thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay at flat 2, 38 Dartview.
The flat was spotlessly clean when we arrived . The view from the flat window was amazing and it’s a short walk from Dartmouth front. The bed was very comfortable, although the room was a little dark. There is also a second bedroom with a single bed.

On our arrival it was clear that the flat had not been cleaned or the bed sheets and towels changed. We phoned the housekeeper who thought we were not due until Tuesday! She apologised and within 10 minutes she arrived with a colleague to make the bed, provide clean
towels and clean the flat. The flat is in a great location but suffers with damp in the bedroom, ant infestation and poor natural light in the main bedroom. The CH system was controlled by a NEST appliance which we could not get to work therefore every morning woke up to a damp and cold bedroom.

Well situated close to town centre and waterfront, but calm and peaceful. Beautiful view over Dart estuary. Parking pass was useful as parking can be difficult in Dartmouth. We had a couple of problems (including ants, as mentioned in a previous review) but cannot fault the speed of Dart Valley Cottages' response. Kitchen area rather cramped; bedroom quite cold and dark.

A very pleasant flat in a good location. Advertised as a one bedroom flat when in fact there are two bedrooms, which means our son could have visited as well if we had known.
A small problem with ants, quickly dealt with. Some issues with understanding the heating system - it was usually cold in the bedroom.
There is a need for kitchen utensils that are useable on the non-stick frying pan.

Beautiful spot with lovely view of the Dart estuary. Shame it's on the ground floor!

Not easy to find! We arrived in the dark and pouring rain. Porch door was closed so not obvious that you have to open the door to access the porch. It just looked like the front door to a house. On the wall outside the door to the porch it said 38 Dartview, rather misleading. Clearer instructions would be helpful. Such as open door next to sign 38 Dartview, where you will find the key safe.

Car park is quite a walk from the flat, which was fine for us but not sure the distance is made clear in the information about the property.

Although the property was generally clean, the crockery, glasses and cutlery had clearly not been washed properly and so the first thing we had to do was to wash and dry all the items we were going to use before we could cook our meal. The fridge had also not been thoroughly cleaned as there were greasy marks inside and even a lump of butter/margarine still on the front of one of the shelves.

However, we had a lovely relaxing week here. Handy Co-op a couple of minutes walk away and lots of lovely places to eat. Particularly the Floating Bridge, (we went there 3 times), for a Sunday Roast, delicious fish & chips and mussels and Sea Bass on our last night. Excellent value for money, more so than many of the other restaurants, which are overly expensive.

We really enjoyed our 4 night stay in Dartmouth, which we know reasonably well having visited many times on our boat over the years. There is plenty to do around this beautiful area. The apartment is in a very convenient location and as the parking permit was provided there was no problem with reasonably secure parking. The apartment itself is a little dated and extremely compact, however we don’t spend very much time indoors when away as there’s so much to see and do. All linen and towels provided although the quality and size of towels wasn’t our usual standard, and one of them was stained, although I’m sure they were clean. Just attention to detail really. Instructions for access could have been sent a little earlier, as once we had left home early in the morning, having no access to WiFi caused issues with access instructions.

This was an excellent stay, with a central location yet no street noise at night. What a view! The only thing that was negative was the walls were thin and a loud snorer kept me awake during my stay! Also perhaps fitting a google chrome cast box would mean people could watch Netflix etc
From the lounge and the wifi didn’t work in the bedroom. Overall super! Xx

Nice flat with great view of the estuary.

2 things;

1. The directions were excellent until we arrived at the flat. Then, while we looked for 2 Dartview, we should have been looking for Flat 2, 38 Dartview (can't remember the street name). There is no such address as just 2 Dartview so the directions should make it clear it is a flat within a house called Dartview.
2. Though the flat provided a parking pass for use in the town parking 5 mins walk away parking spaces in that park were very difficult to get even though the town seemed to have plenty of tourist accommodation available - parking must be very difficult in the town in the high season.

Accommodation fine, though.

Peter

The flat was smaller than anticpated, and we didn't like the fact that there was no proper daylight in the bedroom. We also found the kitchen difficult to use due to the lack of work surface; it was actually more difficult to cook in than it is in our caravan. The bed was extremely comfortable and the flat had excellent views. The flat was very clean and everything was in good order.

This was a nice ground floor apartment for two with good facilities and beautiful views from the dining table across the Dart estuary. A free car parking pass was provided for parking on the public car park in the centre of Dartmouth. We just left the car there most of the week and used ferries, steam train and bus for seeing the area.

2 Dartview is in a great location. It’s very near the centre of town, but away from all the noise and bustle. The views across the river are wonderful. The kitchen appliances were all easy to use which made cooking trouble free. Throughout, all the furniture was comfortable (sofas, bed). The apartment was clean. The only slight drawback was at night when a light was sometimes switched on outside in the back which shone directly through the bedroom curtains and woke us up.

Overall we had a lovely stay.

We found 2 Dartview a great place to stay and would recommend it to other couples. It is very central, comfortable, clean and well equipped. We loved the view over the harbour! It was lovely to have basics supplied, (tea, coffee, milk etc.) Very welcome after a long journey!

Slight downsides - we had a problem with the key safe both on arrival and leaving. Many thanks to Tom who came to help us out!
While the flat is mainly well equipped, it would have been nice to have a teapot and some egg cups! We appreciate the owners have taken measures to address problems with damp in the flat but this is still evident and we did need to use the heating on occasion.

Practically perfect in every way.!! I holiday with my 8 year old Border Terrier, Mr Beaker (whom due to a long term illness is in a doggy buggy. The property big enough to accommodate it.) so the property was perfect for us two.... On arrival I felt the property to be very cold, especially the bedroom, the bed and ward rope verged on feeling damp.
(If I have one complaint it would be the curtains in the lounge were stained at the bottom and needed a clean and under both sofa's could have been vacuumed to a higher standard, but I am very critical on cleanliness)
However, it was immediately obvious to me that the little property had had no heating on for a number of days, and when I tried to rectify this the heating would not come on and being a combi boiler, no hot water access. I directly made my way to Dart Valley offices where I was welcomed by Tom whom had taken my booking 6 weeks previously.. He couldn't have been more helpful, he told me what to do and I was to call him at any time as he lived locally. On my return to the property the boiler still would not play ball, Tom was called and was at my aid in a matter of minutes. He waved his magic wand and away she went. Our dear little property soon warmed up and with that the property came alive and her true potential began to shine.... Level access throughout and only three steps up to main building makes the property perfect for all ages. Having access to Bayards Cove opposite was simply perfect too, we could be at the ferry within 2 minutes, (we had travelled by train so no car) taking us over to Kingswear to catch local buses to Brixham or Torquay (both services bang on time and accepting dogs in pushchairs). One tip, do take your binoculars as the view from lounge window again 'simply perfect', and an ever changing live picture. I sat for hours at this window reading and watching life on the ocean wave. I cannot thank the owner of this property enough for allowing dogs, Beaker is my absolute world and to be able to holiday with him in such a central level ground property was the icing on the cake. Also being a female alone on holiday this property and its location made me feel safe at all times. Dartmouth is exceptionally dog friendly, infact I have never found anywhere else that can match it, so I do holiday in Dartmouth often...Give it ago, whether alone, with a loved one or like me with a four legged soul mate, you really wont regret it and if you decide to stay at 2 Dartview Newcomen Road I can assure you, you will have picked a little Gem. .Simples!!!

Perfect location for visiting Dartmouth any time of year. Visited for Xmas week and accommodation was warm and welcoming with great views over the river Dart. Within walking distance of town and castle. Parking outside is on a first come basis but a small price to pay for location. Would highly recommend.
