Unfortunately I need to give my first bad review. The basic cleaning (bathrooms, sink) was excellent, but in my view the kitchen was absolutely terrible. The stove was covered in grease and cobwebs, with the baking tray drawer and extractor hood untouchable, (ignition switch not working so long handled lighter supplied), green mould growing on the utensils, grease spots on the under cabinet lighting (which didn't work), cupboard interiors grey. The whole room needs a complete deep clean which we didn't want to have the inconvenience of during our stay. Dirty mark on the seat of a lounge chair, (needed to cover before using).
The maintenance in our opinion is very poor. Overflow from roof drips noisily onto plastic roof beneath which can only be controlled overnight by flushing the toilet at 2.00am. No Freeview, no battery in smoke alarm (we supplied one), no hangers, banisters wobbly, windows dirty, washing line fell off the wall twice, no laundry basket, pegs, or airer, light pull cord snapped off in cloakroom. There were four other issues which the agent did correct (broken - dishwasher, plug mechanism, outside tap, and missing hairdryer) but we did not want the upset of reporting everything as the agent was brisk, uncaring, and not, in any conceivable way, sympathetic or understanding to our problems. The final straw was returning from a lovely day to a 'Danger, Safety Warning, Do Not Use' notice stuck on the stove! This is all such a shame as Gothic Cottage would be absolutely lovely with bit of TLC.

We knew Gothic Cottage was a 20 minute walk from town, so it was a very peaceful location but with easy access to the Coast Path by the Castle and Dartmouth itself. The Cottage is quaint, warm and light - it had everything we needed for our short break and the beds were very comfortable too.

We have been using Dart Valley cottages for 15 years. This was our first disappointment

Kevin from Dart Valley could not have been more helpful and prompt. However, we have been using Dart Valley for over 15 years now, sadly Gothic cottage is our first disapointment. Below is a list of things that they may want to address or pass onto other guests.

We were cold and found out that the heating was controlled remotely by the owner -not ideal. Kevin from Dart valley dealt with this promptly
Only half a bath of hot water for 3 people every night.
No ladle, not many saucepans and only half a toaster working. It was not very clean
