Nestled behind the historic Bayards Cove you will find Gulls Nest - a perfectly equipped apartment for one couple in the heart of this ancient, picturesque town. With one bedroom, a well-equipped compact kitchen, living room, and shower room, you’re only a stone’s throw from Dartmouth’s riverside charms and boats connecting you across the Dart Valley. Premier restaurants and inns are on your doorstep, as is one of the world’s longest and most-popular walking routes – the South West Coast Path.

A happy stay at Gull's Nest

Thanks for my recent stay in Gull's Nest. All went very smoothly and the cottage is very well organised and comfortable. Someone had very kindly put up Christmas decorations and left some mulled wine and mince pies which I really appreciated.

Just a couple of things. It would be good to have an extra duvet or heavy blanket. I was actually fine as I was there on my own so I just folded the double duvet in half to get two layers. But for two people in winter they may have been cold.

Also your directions for getting there for car drivers seemed very good. I however came on public transport. It is actually easy on public transport - I got the train to Totnes and the bus from there to Dartmouth - and a very short walk from the bus stop to the cottage. These days with the climate emergency it would be great to promote public transport more. Also better for local people in Dartmouth not to have so many visitors' cars taking all the parking. So maybe in future you could give some public transport info as well to visitors?
So all in all a good place to stay - only real drawback is that there is no real view from the windows.

The locality was great, accommodation was comfortable and clean, we would stop again. The lack of WiFi caused a slight problem.

We have been to Dartmouth a million times as well as living there previously too and am constantly amazed when we come across a new place to stay.

We decided VERY last minute to come to Dartmouth for music festival this year so choice of accommodation was limited.

We booked online and added the Thursday night on which was great as so often accommodation start dates and end dates are fixed so this flexibility really appealed.

Plus points of the accommodation

1. Location - just literally round the corner from Bayards Cove, easy access. No huge hills to climb and if you know Dartmouth, you will know that’s a bonus

2. Space - basically three rooms and a bathroom but adequate for a short break for 2. I think any longer and you would feel cramped

Downsides

1. No parking pass - I think it would be great to offer this. Thankfully for us, having lived there, we knew a few spots and managed to grab one but a parking pass would have been a peace of mind thing. It was one of the reasons we came down on Thursday not Friday so we could park and leave it in place.

2. Shower is TINY and I mean tiny. Getting in and out on a half pivot door is precarious. It does the job but it’s by no means an easy feat especially if you don’t want to wash your hair lol

3. No view - it’s within literally a few steps of a view though so not really a downside just an observation

We did have an issue with the oven, it wouldn’t come on which spoiled our last nights dining as we planned to eat in. The plug was hidden away at the back of the sink cupboard and was slightly out but even when we sorted that, the selector knob wasn’t working.

We did call the helpline and spoke to someone which was great especially to know someone was there on a Sunday evening but she couldn’t help us resolve the oven so we had to carry on looking for a fix.

In the end we just went out for dinner again.

The freezer also doesn’t freeze well. It’s an ice box and we added an ice pack and it didn’t freeze.

All in all a lovely place to stay and would happily come back for the location and for a short break but feel a couple of things need attention.
Mainly the oven, the freezer and would have liked a parking pass and a a hair dryer ( if there was one, I couldn’t find it )

Final word, always worth going direct rather than booking.com where I initially saw it but it’s more expensive on there, presumably due to adding the fees on that booking.com charge.

Great little place. Nicely furnished and clean. Shower cubicle very small but adequate. No view which is a shame but good location at Bayards Cove.
