excellent cottage Lee December 2024

Herons Reach is a pet-friendly home within a barn conversion in the heart of exquisite Dittisham. Enjoy views of the river and across to Dartmoor from the large front windows and front decking. There’s access to four acres of communal gardens and two allocated parking spaces. Ideally placed to explore the area on foot, it’s just a short walk to the village shop and pub. Stroll a little further to reach the quay, the riverside inn and café, as well as river rides and ferries to Dartmouth.

Had a lovely time as always. Just to let you know that the shower doesn't work and there was an old cake in the drawers that hadn't been removed.
We brought our mattress topper with us for the bed in the spare bedroom because the mattress was uncomfortable last year.
Such beautiful views from the property and a great location, thank you.

A spacious, airy and comfortable property which was well equipped. Very peaceful setting, the outlook from the property was stunning and use of the communal large grass area with views over the Dart was a big bonus. Dedicated parking spaces for 2 cars directly outside the property. Great location to be able to get a ferry from the village to Dartmouth or across the water to Greenway, also for some lovely walks from the village meaning we didn’t need to use the car every day.
Will definitely be back.
The driving directions to get to the property provided by Dart Valley Cottages (complete with photos!) we’re the best I’ve ever received!

The views are amazing and stunning and the property on the whole is great.
However, the kitchen is out of date and the beds were really uncomfortable so sadly we did not sleep so well.

We enjoyed staying in Dittisham very much, it's a great place to explore on foot (which was nice alternative to navigating the single track roads by car) - we enjoyed walking down either side of the valley and the option of getting a ferry across the river and back from Dartmouth to Dittisham was very convenient and good fun. It was lovely to spend to catch the last rays of sun at the end of the day by the pontoon at the Ferry Boat Inn, but be aware there's not much seating inside or out and they only do (albeit very nice) pizzas in the summer. Probably a good idea to ring and book a table inside if the weather's not good.

Heron's Reach is a very comfortable and pleasant holiday home in a small development at the edge of the village. The booking process direct with Dart Valley Cottages was smooth and easy and much cheaper than booking through an affiliate partner but I think that they do not provide much in the way of cancellation cover, so bear that in mind. Communication from them was very professional, maybe a even a bit over the top - I think I have received 7 emails from them regarding the booking with some information buried in one of multiple attachments - but it was very professional and easy enough to find the information I needed with lots of opportunities to contact them.

The property has a small but sunny decking area with two folding chairs and a table which makes the most of the beautiful view of the valley. There is a communal lawned area and a bench in front. There were two parking spots for this property

Inside was very light and airy with a vaulted ceiling and plenty of soft seating with two large sofas and a kitchen table. Some of the furniture and ornaments were a little dated but it was very comfortable and clean. The same goes for the kitchen which was very clean and functional but the fridge was a little bit rusty and frosted up and there was no dishwasher - but it was fine for us.

Downstairs there are two spacious double bedrooms, a separate toilet and a family bathroom which would be big plus with a house full - no waiting to use the loo. Again it was very clean and comfortable and everything worked perfectly.

I highly recommend this choice. It’s a fantastic location with lovely views of the river and short walk to Dittisham jetty. The cottage had everything we needed.

The location and views from Herons Reach are lovely.
The cottage itself is ok, but for the prices you pay these days it should be better.
There was nice new carpet throughout and the bathroom was recently refurbished, but that was let down by little things that weren't replaced. The shower head had thick black mould coming out of the nozzles and despite the cleaners attempting to clean it there was no real improvement, so we didn't use it! .. just fit a new one!!
The TV didn't work and I found out why..it was overheating and turning itself off... could have been a fire hazard! Dart Country cottages got a new one sent to the property in a few days though and were very helpful.
Going back to the condition of Herons Reach, the front door is splitting away from the glass and not only looks tatty, it makes locking the door awkward because it's also warped. The kitchen is very tired with cut outs left in the vinyl flooring where an old appliance had been. The fridge is ridiculously small too.
.... for the high weekly rentals demanded from holiday cottages these days I think the customer should expect more than get from staying at Herons Reach.

POSITION OF HERONS REACH WAS 10 out of 10 LOUNGE AND BEDROOMS WERE EXCELLENT AND COMFORTABLE
KITCHEN WELL EQUIPPED , BUT LACKED DISH WASHER.BATHROOM ONLY COMPLIANT SHOWER CORD WAS FAULTY.

Herons Reach is situated in a lovely setting with amazing views. It was great to sit outside on the balcony with a drink & look out over the river. The property was very clean & had a welcome pack of tea, coffee, milk, biscuits & flowers which was appreciated. The property is a good size & for 2 people was ideal.
The only negatives for us was the creaky floor which is incredibly noisy & the bed isn't very comfortable.
Overall we enjoyed our break in Dittisham.

Heron’s Reach had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. In a quiet location but a short walk to the pub, cafe and ferries.
The WiFi was an unexpected bonus as was the outdoor furniture although the weather prevented us from making much use of it.
A great base for exploring the Dart valley on foot, using the excellent ferry services.

On the whole Herons Reach was comfortable.
It has a lovely new carpet which was a bit of a worry with a wet dog coming in the front door. Some sort of recessed doormat would be a good idea. Also there were instructions with regards to recycling but where.
were the recycling bags. The same goes for the bedding. We were told to strip the beds and place linen in the bag provided - couldn't find a bag.
On arrival the key was in the key safe. I have never used one of these before and found it difficult. The instructions were in the folder in the property! Perhaps it would be a good idea to send.instructions fore the key safe before arrival. .These are only small points and on the whole it is a very.comfortable property.

Herons Reach has a lovely view of river Dart and is well positioned. It is very spacious. You can walk to Dittsham quay. Herons Reach was a disappointment to us. We found the lead to a laptop and a child’s small toy on the floor. These should have been picked up when cleaning. There are stains on the carpet which make the place look dirty in places. We had to contact Dartvalley as we had problem with carpet moths. I must say they were brilliant. I emailed them Sunday morning and had reply Sunday evening, and On Monday they had the carpet treated by professionals while we were out with our permission, and then later someone from Dartvalley came and hoovered the place. It was hoovered better then than before we arrived on the Saturday evening.
I was surprised the cleaners had not reported the moth problem as it was so obvious.
I would not stay in this apartment again but would try another in the same complex.

A nice property overlooking the River Dart in a good location with a couple of pubs in the village. Use of a car is a must for visiting nearby towns and access to the village is via narrow roads. It is possible to walk into Dartmouth although it is very hilly so allow a couple of hours. Ferry service to Greenway is useful for visit to National Trust owned Agatha Christie’s house and gardens although house is currently closed due to Covid restrictions.

We have been visiting Dittisham for many years and stayed in different properties. Herons Reach has fantastic views across the river and plenty of outside space.
The property was well equipped with lots of storage space. The aspect was super with the lounge and kitchen upstairs to make the most of the views. This property is one of the very few in the village with parking for two cars so that was a big advantage.
The property needs a little updating and tlc as it does look a little knocked about, plus we had to spend time cleaning it on arrival.
Having said that we will more than likely book this place in the future as the views are spectacular.
Dittisham is a wonderful village and we will be back!

We have stayed at a couple of other places at Dittisham Court and knew that the location was perfect for us. There is excellent walking from the house. Immediate fine views and 2 friendly pubs in the village. The house has a really good, light sitting room for the house's size. 2 double bedrooms make it ideal for 4 adults. The kitchen was well equipped although only having 4 knives called for attention to washing up. Unfortunately the flooring is not well laid meaning that if anyone stayed up when others were in bed below they could not sleep for the noise. The decking outside the door was really slippery and the mats skidded beneath each of us on occasion. They key wasn't found where we were directed. I wouldn't want these drawbacks to unbalance my review but feel that attention needs to be given to these points.

This was our second stay at Herons reach and as before we had a great time. Location is great for village and walking the surrounding area. The property is very comfortable. The one thing that it is missing is a dishwasher!

A lovely part of the county of Devon,our third visit to the area,always enjoyable.Herons Reach provided an excellent base from which to explore,with easy access to Dartmouth,Brixham,Totnes,Torquay,Paignton and Salcombe.Lots of very walking,interesting properties and very nice pubs for a quiet drink and a meal.The Royal Naval College in Dartmouth s well worth a visit and good value,a morning well spent.
