The accomodations were very good. My only comment is that the heating wasn't as strong as I would've liked. Other than that, I enjoyed my stay.

The Folly is a truly welcoming apartment. Beautifully finished to an extremely high standard.
You often find that a holiday cottage is not quite as good as it appears in the photo's, but in this case, it really IS as good as the photo's suggest. It is both spacious and comfortable, with natural daylight pouring in from the roof windows. The shower is powerful, the bed comfy and the kitchen is complete with breakfast bar and dishwasher. There is a laundry on-site, for guests to use free of charge. There is an amazing view from the balcony, which would be a great space to enjoy if the weather is good.
Hall Hills is situated in a very rural location, so enjoys uninterrupted peace and tranquillity. It is about 20 minutes outside Carlisle, where the nearest supermarkets are located. We received a very warm welcome from Tim, who gave helpful advice on places we suggested we might visit. Thanks for a great stay. What a shame we had to come home!

We were delighted to stay at The Folly which provided us a wonderful home from home, with its raised elevation the views and sunsets were spectacular - every night was spent sat on the balcony enjoying the evening.
The Folly was light, open and spacious, comfortable furniture and well stocked kitchen. The owners were very helpful providing lots of in depth local information and left us a lovely local cheese, biscuits and Prosecco for us to enjoy.
The Bed was very comfortable and bathroom spotlessly clean.
We would definitely recommend The Folly and hope to book again for friends and family when they visit. (the booking process was also extremely straight forward)

My mum was lucky enough to win a 2 night break at Hall Hills in a Hospice at Home raffle last Christmas and she kindly gave it to us. We stayed in The Folly which was a beautiful self contained 1 bedroom first floor apartment with a lovely balcony with incredible views. It has a combination of traditional lovely wooden beams and beautiful modern soft furnishings with everything you could possibly need. Everything has been thought about. The bed was super comfy and it was immaculate throughout. A nice relaxing weekend away. Thank you so much. It was greatly appreciated.

The light and airy open plan main room was really comfortable and a lovely peaceful place to relax in. The extra large bed was comfortable, the shower was good with nice gel provided along with the nice soft towels. The view from the balcony was lovely, nice welcome basket and we had a lovely chat with Tim on arrival.

The location is beautiful and rural , the Folly itself has everything you could possibly need and more . Bed was super comfortable and lovely high quality bed linen . There was also a lovely welcome pack containing local produce and a bottle of fizz .
All in all I cannot fault the Folly and would highly recommend to anyone thinking of booking to do so , you will not be disappointed as it really is tremendous value for money

We found The Folly online, and it was exactly as described and depicted. We hadn't stayed in that part of the country before, and really enjoyed our 7-night stay. It was very quiet and peaceful, with local walks from the doorstep, and many lovely places within an hour's drive or less, particularly the northern Lake District. The hosts, Jude and Tim, were very friendly and on hand if needed, but didn't intrude at all. The Folly was very well equipped with everything we needed, and spotlessly clean. We did quite a bit of cooking and, again, the kitchen had everything we needed (including basics like tea, coffee, sugar, salt & pepper, plus cleaning products). There was a welcome box of 'goodies', including milk and cereal, which was a lovely idea. The bed was super comfortable, and the shower was great! There was also a small laundry for use by all the holiday cottages - not advertised on the website but a very useful addition, with washing machines and tumble driers, plus ironing facilities etc. All in all, a fabulous place to stay. If we return to that part of the country, we'll definitely stay at Hall Hills again. A big thank you to Jude and Tim, who obviously take great pride in their business.

The Folly is a lovely place to stay, it's very clean and furnishings are to a high standard, there's everything you could need. Sitting on the balcony in the evening enjoying the country side sounds was very relaxing, the surrounding area is pretty and it's within easy distance of The Lakes and Scotland, the village of Dalston 5 miles away has shops and eateries. The only thing you need to consider when booking is that you have to climb wooden stairs to access the property and there are 2 steps up to the bedroom so not for anyone with mobility issues otherwise a first class property.

My husband and I spent a very relaxing week in The Folly. Jude greeted us on arrival and explained everything, but then left us alone to enjoy our stay, which is how I like it. The Folly has everything you need for a very comfortable stay for two and great views over the surrounding countryside. We enjoyed watching the bats flying around in the evening. I am not bothered with Wi-Fi and mobile signals whilst I am away, but there is Wi-Fi which is useful because, like a lot of rural places, the mobile signal is almost non existent. All in all, a great place to stay.

We stayed for 4 nights at the end of June in the Folly at Hall Hills. Outside the National Park but within reach of the Northern Lakes. The accommodation was very comfortable and had all we needed for our stay, although instructions for some of the electronics would have been appreciated as we are not very 'Techi'. We drove to Silloth on the Solway Firth one of the days and then up to Carlisle which is quite close it was a beautiful drive including the 'Wall's End' at Bowness on Solway. Climbed Blencathra with fabulous views of Derwent Water and on another day walked to the nearest small town of Dalston. People were so friendly and we got the feeling of a real community spirit there. Weather was mixed but this is the Lake District so we had come prepared for that! Would definitely visit Hall Hills again.

This was our 3rd time in 'The Folly'(in 7 years), and we hope to return again one day. We love the light atmosphere with the sky lights and the view form the balcony or the grass downstairs. Great walks (high and low) in the Northern Lakes, starting from Mosedale, Mungrisdale, 'Trafford' or other places nearby. Skiddaw House is a special place, so sad that it is not just open anymore like it just to be. Saw the barn owl in the barn near Rose Caste. When the weather is a bit less, there are plenty pf places to visit nearby. If you like gardening, Larch Cottage Nurseries is a must :)

What a lovely barn conversation, very tastefully done. It is very comfortable, clean and peaceful. The views from the balcony are delightful. The Barn has all the luxuries you need for an enjoyable stay. Whilst outside the National Park the scenery is still beautiful and the roads are so quiet!

The property was very well furnished and equipped with everything one might need. There are also shared facilities such as a washing machine and even a landline.
We liked the layout and furnishing of the property which was ideal after a day of walking.

The attic of a converted cowshed has been turned into a stylish, luxurious and very well equipped holiday home. Its very rural location is ideal for exploring the Cumbria coast and northern Lakes. It has more than adequate heating and plentiful hot water and features a very well equipped, compact kitchen area with small dishwasher, fridge, freezer and cooker. The cooker has a small but particularly efficient fan oven. There is a separate bedroom with a vast double bed which is even quieter than our own in rural Yorkshire! A huge L-shaped leather sofa in the roomy sitting room faces a large TV with Freeview and the dining table seats 6 easily if needs be. We visited in late April so didn't make use of the large balcony for dining but did enjoy the lovely view of a stream and rustic bridge, surrounding fields and glorious sunrises.
Still in lockdown, we self-catered exclusively and spent every evening "at home". Possibly cheaper, but we couldn't have found a better, more comfortable and relaxing place than the Folly.

With 2020 so far being somewhat of a very surreal year, coupled with suffering a sudden unexpected illness during the summer, a short, relaxing break was needed to recharge the batteries. Hall Hills definitely provided this.
Hall Hills has an excellent isolated location away from it all, but very easy to get to being only 10-15 minutes from the M6. Our cottage, The Folly, was very peaceful, spacious & very clean throughout. Situated to the rear of the complex, & being at first floor level, it also afforded a lovely view through the patio doors of open countryside.
Living room was very comfortable, flooded with natural light, & a good heating system. Never heard any outside noise. Kitchen is well equipped, bedroom spacious, & whilst the bathroom is the smallest room (especially the shower) it was very functional with hot water always available.

After six months of working at home it was lovely to have a five night stay away. The directions from the motorway were perfect and the cottage complex was as isolated as we expected which was good given the current situation of the pandemic. We would normally pick somewhere closer to more places to visit without driving on such rural roads. We can only compare the Folly to another cottage we have stayed in before. The kitchen was fine for all the meals we prepared, the only thing missing was a pizza cutter. I found cupboard space for all our supplies except a large cereal box. The bedroom had enough drawer and hanging space and the bed was cosy and comfortable. The bathroom has a walk in shower but is not as large as it could be with the curved design. We are both on the large side and found it a bit tight. It is a pity some of the bedroom space can’t be used to extend the bathroom and perhaps make it en suite as it is a little further to go in the middle of the night. The large white leather sofa is very comfortable but will start to show every mark over time. We met Tim a few times but never saw Jude. There was a little noise on the Saturday evening but it didn’t go on too late. We had a lovely time. We would recommend the Folly for a couple wanting a break in the countryside away from it all as there is no mobile reception but there is internet and a smart tv

We will certainly ensure that pizza cutters are in all the properties from now on, sadly we cannot extend the bathroom into the bedroom to make it an ensuite as it is a different floor level from the bedroom and we wanted to ensure a spacious bedroom to relax in.
Sorry I didn't meet you personally, however Tim or myself greet guests an arrival and we are always around if needed but like to keep a respectful distance the rest of the time and especially during the current climate.
Mobile signal can be tricky for some depending on your service provider and sadly that is out of our control however the phone in the laundry is free to use if you do struggle with a signal. We love our secluded rural location and so pleased you enjoyed it too.

Slightly tricky to find if you don't know the area (even with the directions) and the roads around aren't the best but once we arrived, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The apartment is spacious, clean and has absolutely everything you need for a great stay. The bed is extremely comfortable and the view from the balcony is amazing too! The appartment has all the mod cons in the kitchen and a communal laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer. A very comfortable bed and plenty of pillows, duvet was a little too warm as the appartment was always lovely and warm without any heating on. The owner was friendly and lived onsight if you had any issues (which we didn't).
Thoroughly enjoyed the holiday as we were able to explore sites along Hadrians Wall, visited Lowther Castle and other gardens within an hours drive as well as walking to waterfalls and visiting the stone circle. Plenty to do as long as the weather is dry, but would advise booking popular venues before you leave home during the school holidays, as there are limited time-slots for Hadrians Wall.
Would definately recommend if you want a quiet, relaxing stay in a beautiful location.

Our 3 nights was booked as a quiet getaway. Lovely drive assisted by directions from Jude due to diversions.
Location is isolated but beautiful, perfect for what we wanted.
The Folly itself is a spacious open plan kitchen / living room/ dining area with all the facilities you could need (washers and drier are a few steps away in a well appointed wash room-come-tourism office).
Self catering was important for us and again every facility was available. M&S in Carlisle was only 25 minutes by car, more local was a co-op in dalton.
Plenty of activities are available which are a drive away.
Overall the perfect place for our needs and we shall return.

A very good self catering option in North Cumbria within easy reach of the North Lakes, historic Carlisle and the Solway coast.
Very well appointed with The Folly, in which we (two of us) stayed, offering a high degree of privacy with a lovely countryside view from the main window. The kitchen area was particularly well equipped.
The on-site owner was very helpful with advice and suggestions but not at all obtrusive.

Our stay at The Folly was made possible by a generous donation from Jude and Tim to Macmillan Cancer Support. Unexpectedly, we were snowbound during our visit and The Folly was the perfect base for enjoying the solitude of a beautiful winter landscape. Tim and Jude took care to ensure all of our needs were met and kept in regular communication with us - they were amazing hosts!

Jude & Tim have created a wonderful place for guests to relax and unwind in a tranquil setting. From arrival we were met by Tim who was happy to give advice and pass on some local knowledge. They had printed off directions to Bitts Park for the Firework display showing ideal parking locations prior to arrival which was well received.
The property itself is stunning with open beams and floods with natural light (a wonderful sight first thing in a morning especially when you arrive at night)
The Folly is fitted with an integrated sound system that can be controlled and played in each room of the accommodation, ideal for a cozy night in with a horror movie streamed directly via the Smart TV with Netflix or just to play some music while taking a shower.
On our departure we were lucky enough to meet with Jude who was kind enough to show us around the other properties Hall Hills has to offer, not a bad word can be said about this place, friendly people, warm, comforting accommodation with views that literally stop you in your tracks to admire.
Thank you both for the weekend just passed. We look forward to seeing you sometime in May 2018

We recently spent a long weekend at the Folly and it was superb. The accommodation itself is light and modern and immaculate throughout. Tim and Jude were excellent hosts and Tim's knowledge of the area really helped us make the most of our visits to the lakes.

I will definitely be going back there and will definitely recommend it to anyone that would like to go out and stay near the lakes. The area is peaceful, the owners are lovely and it is a excellent location away from anything. The service provided from getting the keys to giving them back was lovely. The place was stunningly tidy and the design and architecture of the place was jaw dropping. Was much needed and a perfect place for my weekend getaway. We had such a lovely weekend away at The Folly. The views from the house were beautiful, especially in the morning as the sun was coming up. On arrival we were greeted by Jude's mum, who was really welcoming and happy to show us around the house. We were also treated to a little hamper of local goodies, which went down a treat. The location itself was a short drive away from Penrith and Keswick, so we had plenty of options for the day. The bed was particularly comfortable, one of the best nights sleep I've had in a while! The added perk was also having the ability to play our own music throughout the property as there were inbuilt speakers in every room that could be controlled by a remote.
This luxury apartment was perfect to surprise my boyfriend with and we will definitely stay here again if we're ever in the area. The Folly is a place I would certainly recommend to my family and friends for their own relaxing weekend.

We stayed in the Folley, a lovely first floor apartment with stunning views over the countryside. Very comfortable accommodation, plenty of room and very well set out. On arrival we were met by Tim who made sure we had everything we needed. This is a very peaceful area to stay. We had a lovely week and were able to do several lovely walks nearby as well as a few trips out to the coast and upper lakes. Thoroughly recommend this area which seemed much quieter than the southern lakes. Thank you to Jude and Tim for a lovely stay.

Having stayed in many cottages across the country, Halls Hill is at the top of the list. 'The Folly' itself was a first class facility providing everything you would possible require, whether just relaxing within your surroundings or going out and about day to day. The location is ideal for visiting Lake District so don't be put off by the fact it just sits on the peripheral. Dalston, the local village has all immediate amenities and anything else isn't that far away. Take time to venture down roads that you perhaps wouldn't go down en route to the Lakes and surrounding areas, you come across some lovely countryside. Would definitely recommend.

Good stay in a nice contemporary cottage, well equipped, we arrived to milk in the fridge, teabags and crackers, cheese and chutney on the side. Our only gripe would be we were unaware, from looking at the pictures on the internet, that we would be staying right on top of the owners main residence, as photos suggest that the cottage was set off away from others and a little bit more secluded.

I am however a little confused that you thought you were 'staying right on top of the owners main residence' as this is not the case. The Folly is a first floor apartment and is not above another property, it is above our private guest dining area which is only utilised if all properties are booked by one party which was not the case during your stay.
The owners, myself and Tim and our daughters do live at Hall Hills opposite the cottages which is clear on the website and often seen as a bonus to guests as we can help with any problems or advice needed on arrival or during your stay.

We had a lovely 3 night stay at the folly, it was just perfect for us. Quiet peaceful relaxing and the weather for October was wonderful. There was everything you could possibly need in the accomodation, from a welcome basket of goodies including, milk cheese and bottle of wine. We stayed in this property for 4 days. It is very comfortable and well equipped with many thoughtful extras. Lovely peaceful view from the property. A short drive from the property to places of interest such as Carlisle and Cockermouth, and little further to the Lake District itself.
Our only criticism relates the bed, which was too firm to be comfortable for my wife who has a bad back, and she did not sleep well.
