We have stayed at highfield house 3 times now , we choose it mostly because of its central location to Ambleside and because it can accommodate our large family . Our children enjoy having their own space using the basement room which has tv access to Netflix etc. The beds are comfortable and we sleep well there.. I would personally make a few changes if had the chance , as we found the dining area and stairways /landing very dark this year , unsure if it was the energy saving bulbs or the wall paint colour choice. The house can feel disconnected at times , possibly due to the heavy fire doors between each room , so if you shout for each other you can't hear.
The garden is a lovely long space but it doesn't feel very accessible from the house .We tend to just sit at the table at the top , in an ideal world there would be some steps leading direct from the back door patio area to the lawn and
the high hedges here removed to allow this , the lawn view could then be enjoyed.
Overall we enjoy our time at highfield house and the communication and customer service is good from brathay cottages.

This house was just ideal for our family, plenty of space for all of us to enjoy. The basement room became the musicians' hub. We all had the best time here and would definitely return :)
Customer service was extremely efficient.

We really enjoyed our stay there. The only thing was that the lights at the end of the path are overgrown & my daughter tripped over an uneven paving slab which she couldn’t see and cut her ankle & grazed her knees.

Many thanks to Brathay for a wonderful stay. We were a group of 5 men in a walking trip in the Lakes. The house is well maintained and fitted to a very high standard. The owners have clearly invested in a high standard of accommodation. The kitchen is modern and has every amenity. All 5 bedrooms have very comfortable beds as well as ensuite facilities. The living areas are spacious. The entire house was spotless. We found Brathay to be very helpful and professional. Ambleside is a great location for visitors. There are many good restaurants nearby and quite a few circular walks start and finish in the town....for example Loughrigg Fell. The house is on the main road through Ambleside but traffic noise is minimal as all windows are double glazed. I highly recommend Highfield House and we look forward to our next visit.
