Nutshell offers couples and their dogs the perfect place to call home while exploring the beaches and coast paths around Mounts Bay in West Cornwall. Beautifully styled, airy and light-filled, the cottage which has recently been refurbished, feels surprisingly spacious for a one-bedroom property, with the open plan layout in the upstairs living area boasting vaulted ceilings and incredible views of both the bay and Mount.

This is a lovely place for relaxation whether sharing a cooked breakfast together at the table or curled up on the sofa with a cup of tea. The small yet perfectly formed kitchen is well equipped for rustling up home cooked meals however if you’re partial to eating out, restaurants like The Godolphin and The King’s Arms (both of which are dog-friendly) are within easy reach by foot. Nutshell’s bright bedroom and contemporary bathroom can both be found on the ground floor where the ceilings are lower for a delightfully cosy atmosphere. The bedroom is a lovely space to unwind in as it too has sea views, with a comfortable small double bed allowing guests to drift off with ease.

One of the best-known landmarks in Cornwall, St Michael's Mount is a fascinating place which seems to rise from the sea and is a must-see attraction for anyone visiting Marazion. This small tidal island sits just offshore, right in the middle of the bay so you can either wait for the tide to go out and walk your way across the causeway or make your way by boat of which there are three landing points on the mainland, Chapel Rock, Gwelva and Top Tieb. One of the county’s best loved stretches of coastline, west Cornwall is home to a bevy of beautiful beaches including those at Perranunthnoe, Sennen and Prussia coves, Carbis Bay and Porthcurno. However, if you’re looking for the best beaches to give your four-legged furbaby a run on at any time of the year, Marazion East Beach, Long Rock and slightly further afield at Porthkidney Sands, are excellent dog-friendly choices.

We had a very enjoyable stay in the Nutshell. Its locality was excellent with a good bus service on the doorstep. A private parking space was certainly a bonus. The property was only a short stroll to the beach and access to St Michael's Mount via ferry or on foot via the causeway when the tide was out. Penzance, Newlyn and Mousehall all within a short drive from the property. We also visited St Ives via the train from St Erth. The Fire Engine and Kings Arms pubs both very friendly both of which serve food but we found the menu’s similar and quite limited. Burger and chips in the Fire Engine quite expensive as chips are a side order! Of the two pubs only the Kings Arms offers a Sunday Roast. Would recommend Rosario Tea Garden for lunch. We liked Marazion and the views from the Nutshell. Whoever thought to put a picture window in the lounge is a genius we never tired of looking at the view.

We had an amazing stay in this lovely cottage. I have to admit I was not sure when I booked it since it seemed to be new and not many reviews were available at the time. The cottage exceeded our expectations and I'm very pleased we booked it. It has been refurbished to a high standard. The kitchen and living room area are amazing with lovely views to St Michael's Mount from the sofa. The kitchen is also fully equipped with absolutely everything you need to make your stay fully comfortable. There was a welcome pack which was a very nice touch and some useful things such as olive oil, salt and pepper, tea, coffee pots for the coffee machine, washing liquid / dishwasher tables and washing machine tablets.

Although the bedroom is not massive, it has everything you need and it does not feel small. I was initially worried that it may be too noisy as it is right by a main road, but it was not the case during our stay (Easter weekend).

The property is very bright, was extremely clean and in a very nice and convenient location. Parking is provided about 5 mins walk.

I recommend this place 100% and would no doubt stay there again!

When we arrived property was dirty not been cleaned. First impression awful from outside. Nutshell is a very good name as it was so tiny felt it was cruel to put " Dog Friendly " as no room no garden horrendous stairs in the property. The wet room far to small the flush on the toilet was sooo very loud probably could be heard on St Michael's Mount!! Sadly a most disappointing place to stay definitely would not recommend.

Hi Wendy, thank you for taking the time to leave a review, we are so sorry to hear of the bad experience you encountered on your arrival. We have been in contact with the housekeeping team and whilst they have apologised for this oversight, they have confirmed that a team did go in and get the property ready for you as soon as they were advised. We do not advertise Nutshell as having any outside space, so we are sorry to read that you were expecting there to be. We have not received any other complaints about the noise from the toilet. It is a Saniflo electric toilet specifically designed for the bathroom, however we have let the owners know about your feedback and they have asked us to thank you for taking the time to let us know. Best wishes, The Luxury Coastal Team.
