Aptly named and built (in 1987 over the original Mill) this is a dream house for the romantically minded, with 3 balconies overlooking the stream, grass tennis court and hills beyond.
Downstairs is the double bedroom with an en-suite bathroom with a deep bath and handbasin plus an en-suite shower room with WC. There is a door to an open deck over the stream - the Barberry Brook - and a boat shaped seat for al fresco relaxation.
Upstairs is a kitchen with a balcony over the stream - where you can barbeque and enjoy the wildlife - and the light, blue sitting room which has another balcony overlooking the tennis court, gardens and hills across the valley.
We supply all bed linen and towels - except swimming/beach towels which we ask you to bring. Please also bring a rug and/ or bedding if you are bringing a dog. We will give you a starter supply of loo paper, dishwasher tablets, bin liners, teas, coffee, salt & pepper - you can buy more from the local shops.

Delightful place.

Hard to summarise. Lovely space, lots of character, lots of attention to detail. Great part of the world.

Definitely recommend for spacious, quirky but functional accommodation (we stayed at the Folly)

Very much enjoyed our stay, we were participating in the watercolour painting course next door.
Nicely appointed accommodation, good appliances in the kitchen; comfortable and quiet bedroom.
Bathroom is separate from toilet, & has a bathtub, always a treat.

Hosts very engaging, Richard even joined me for a game of tennis on their pristine grass court.
Games room with good mid-sized snooker table, and also a clean & warm swimming pool.
Efficient booking system for tennis and swimming.

Room and balcony overlook a quietly babbling brook.

One tip: roads in immediate vicinity are narrow with a few passing places so be patient and be prepared to fold in wing mirrors.

The Folly at Fingals in Devon’s South Hams is a charming and engaging holiday retreat that inspires on each visit. I thoroughly recommend this enchanting self catering cottage with balconies overlooking a brook and Fingals delightful gardens. Hosts; Richard and Sheila, are available as required but not intrusive. Everything you need for your stay is here. Much to do locally, but like me, you might find leaving the Folly, and Fingals, a wrench!

We stayed at The Folly for 4 nights, it is an amazing and magical place to stay! We were made very welcome by Sheila and Richard who put so much effort into keeping Fingals so beautiful. The Folly had everything you could wish for on a break away, the underfloor heating in bathrooms, electric blankets on the bed, dishwasher, coffee machine and the views were something else.

On arrival at 3pm (cleaners had 5 hrs to clean) the lounge rug had long dog hairs & biscuit crumbs as did the sides of the sofa. The bread bin had crumbs in. The bed had a huge dead spider on the sheet, the loo was grimy (I had to clean) , cobwebs (especially behind chairs in bedroom), the radiator wasn’t working in shower room so was cold & damp. The welcome pack was stingy, no coffee or milk. It all need a refresh of paint as quite tatty . Although dog friendly the flooring was slippery (our dog kept slipping) the area for dog toilet was not on site by The Folly but up the drive & lane. Not ideal. Shame as it could have all been so much better as a beautiful spot with pool & sauna to yourself .

We loved Folly as we needed somewhere to relax. Lovely setting with the brook beside us , No hot tub ? Sauna out of use. Inundated every day with flies in the Folly. Freezing cold and damp feeling on arrival. We understand there is a septic tank but the smell permeating from the toilet into the bedroom was unpleasant, Cleanliness not up to a great standard, Needs a bit of tlc, Bed and bathroom were lovely and owners were nice. Lovely log burner !!!!

We think it was overpriced due to lack of facilities and out of season

The Folly has so much character sitting just beside a picturesque stream. Well equipped kitchen, bathroom, and fireplace.
Lovely hosts who went the extra mile to help us. They provided us with bikes (even an electric one) and posted an item I had forgotten.
Great facilities: swimming pool, gym, sauna, table tennis, foosball, snooker, some games in the house.
Only downsides are that the closest local shop is 9mins cycle or 30mins walk away, and that there were quite a few dying flies and ladybirds in the house.
Overall, we very much enjoyed our time and would recommend to friends and family.
