If you're searching for a classic Craster fisherman's cottage, you'll most certainly find it in Driftwood. The exterior is classic Craster: hand-shaped local stone , little windows and a slate-tiled roof, with a sweet front garden accessed via its own white picket gate. There’s also a decked seating area at the front where you can sit and enjoy the sun and watch the daily goings-on down in the harbour. Inside, Driftwood is packed with period charm – from the original fireplace to the cosy bedrooms, it makes the perfect cosy bolthole for your Northumberland adventures.

As we walked into the cottage on a cold November day we were greeted with a warm, cosy and tastefully decorated living area. Because there were only two of us, we had a sofa each on which to lounge and watch the TV although we struggled with the technology as neither of us own TVs. We loved watching the sky and the sea from the bay window with its comfortable window seat. Upstairs was even warmer so we turned down all the radiators after the first night. High quality welcome pack with lovely bread, butter, jam, all local produce. We loved it.

The cottage is in immaculate condition and well located in beautiful Craster village. It’s a stone’s throw from the harbour and the pub, and a mile or so walk from Dunstanburgh castle. It’s really convenient that the cottage has parking for 2 cars. The cottage is extremely well equipped, with everything you could need for cooking, dishwasher and laundry tabs, games to play, hairdryers, plenty of towels and cosy blankets. The cottage is very warm (almost too hot!) so we didn’t need to use the stove, but wood was provided. We absolutely loved our stay and would definitely return.

A top class accommodation in every respect. No detail has been overlooked. The conversion of the cottage has been done to a very high standard. The word "luxury" would not be misplaced. Highest quality items have been selected in every area - from the salt & pepper grinders to the stylish matching furnishings. A nice touch was the "greeting pack" of milk, bread, butter & biscuits, as well as unlimited supply of teabags and coffee granules. The property is Ideally located in a slightly elevated position with views to the sea. A south-east facing terrace is furnished with table and chairs for "al fresco" dining. It is ideally located for walking both coast and countryside directly from the cottage. One 7 mile return trip takes you north along the coast to Dunstanburgh Castle and beyond. The other south along the cliffs to Bulmer and back. A third excellent walk of similar distance takes you inland to Howick Hall and Gardens and then back via the coast. If wanting to eat out, just a 3 minute walk away is the excellent Jolly Fisherman gastro pub.

Driftwood is a beautiful cottage overlooking Craster harbour. It has everything you need for a comfortable stay, is well equipped and furnished to a high standard. Having stayed in Catch the Breeze accommodation previously, Driftwood certainly matched up to my high expectations.

A splendid 2 week stay at the above cottage in Craster. An extremely comfortable property with all that you would need to make the stay very enjoyable. All furnishings, towels and bed linen were of the highest quality. A good place to stay with a view to visiting points of interest in the near and further away area.

Beautiful place, incredibly well provisioned and comfortable. Absolutely intend to return here, and to try out some of the other properties - our neighbours during our stay said how lovely the other cottages were too and that they'd stayed in multiple. Private parking spot, enormous, soft towels, thoughtful welcome pack and just a simply gorgeous spot!

What a wonderful cottage! It was perfect for us as a young family and our two year old fell in love with Craster as much as we did.
The bay window is superb to watch all the goings on of Craster and it is furnished to a high standard. We will definitely be back.

A beautiful cottage in a fabulous location in the quiet village of Craster. The cottage has everything you could need for a comfortable stay, the owners really have thought of everything. Very detailed arrival information including what equipment is available so you’re not taking more than you need. Comfortable big beds that can be made up as singles or super king and having 2 bathrooms is a great bonus with nice fluffy big towels provided too. Kitchen is very well thought out with large kitchen island and good appliances including oven, hob, microwave and large fridge freezer. The welcome hamper was a nice touch with local produce of bread, jam, butter, tea and coffee and meant we didn’t have to rush straight out to get supplies. We loved our stay and would recommend this accommodation for anyone looking to get away from it all in a beautiful location.

The cottage was very clean, warm and comfortable. We loved sitting around the table at the front, looking out over the harbour. Kitchen was very well equipped and it was easy to cook simple meals on several nights. The beds were very comfortable and bathrooms spacious and clean. We enjoyed walks from the house, eating at the Cottage Inn nearby, take away fish and chips just up the road (open Fri, Sat and Sun) and Craster kippers.
The owners provided a list of equipment and supplies before we arrived and suggestions for what we needed to bring which was very helpful.

Driftwood was as described on the website and was a relaxing, clean and comfortable holiday base. The welcome pack was excellent and items appeared to come from the community shop in nearby Embleton which was pleasing. The maps and local information books were useful and plenty of games and books were provided too.
Negatives were the deep bath with no handles (too challenging for we oldies!), the stairs were steep and the property was on the main road into Craster, therefore busy with traffic and people.
Craster is a good base for exploring the area. The crab soup at the local pub The Jolly Fisherman shouldn't be missed and the local kippers lived up to expectations too!

The cottage is in one of our favourite locations on the Northumberland coast and has a harbour view
Beautifully warm and refurbished to a high standard, Driftwood was inviting and comfortable to come home to after a day out.
We always enjoy a holiday by the sea, and Driftwood was one of the best cottages we have stayed in Craster

A week away in our go-to county. We love Craster. Ideal for us to celebrate a birthday.
Having experienced this company before we were confident that the house would be great. There was an initial problem with getting warm enough which was addressed remotely
We look forward to staying in more of Catch the Breeze properties in 2024, with friends.
We enjoyed eating at The Jolly Fisherman twice and The Potted Lobster in Bamburgh

We did not watch much TV but every time we used it , if we wanted to change the volume, a rogue electronic voice shouted out the volume and source of the programme so we could not hear the dialogue! Any interruption was painfully loud.
I did not know how to fix it. I think it was caused by the sound bar.I hope someone fixes it for the next guests.

Tara Taylor replied more than 1 year ago
Thank you for your review. I am so delighted to read that you had the perfect holiday. I am sorry that you experienced problems with the sound on the television. We would have been able to send someone from the team over to fix this so that this was rectified during your stay. Thank you for bringing this to our attention now though and I am pleased to report that this has now been fixed.

This was our first holiday since 2017 and we decided to treat ourselves to a really good holiday cottage. We chose Driftwood and we were not disappointed!
Every comfort was provided for, the welcome package was exceptional, the decor was tasteful and we absolutely loved it.
Having a good sized en suite meant that both we and our teenage daughter could have the use of a nice bathroom.
The kitchen was really well-supplied with crockery, cutlery and utensils.
The sitting room was comfortable and the TV very new and all hooked up to the Wi-Fi.
The location is stunning with views down the hill to the sea. Craster itself is beautiful and only 15 minutes drive from Alnwick so you get the best if both worlds in terms of how you spend your time.
We had a brilliant week and would thoroughly recommend Driftwood to anyone looking for a quiet getaway.

Brilliant cottage and super clean! I would say Driftwood is near on perfect! The location is brilliant and was a very comfortable stay.
The only issue I’ve got is the huge price increase by near double for the following year there for I won’t be returning which is a huge shame.
