Ashdale Cottage is a gem of a find for friends & families seeking off-grid time together. Diving into the vast pool, slinking into the bubbly hot tub, getting competitive in the games room, and heading into the heath- it’s all there for the taking! Dog friendly.

Expected better

The location of Ashdale Cottage is lovely.

The house and annexe could be better - we arrived to a blocked upstairs toilet with a plunger still in. The main upstairs bathroom hot tap was not working, this has clearly been an ongoing issue as there was a welcome card for a previous guest stating this issue (and that it would be fixed). The majority of beds were really uncomfortable especially the one above the kitchen (rock hard). The annexe smelt of damp so we chose not to use it. The main house smelt musty upstairs. There were dirty greasy oven dishes in the cupboard and the overall level of cleanliness was quite poor. The gardener turned up on the Friday with three dogs - our last full day and it was a bit much, there was pool maintenance the day before too. The hot tub in the photos is blocked off/not in use and instead there is a hired one on the patio. There are a number of cctv cameras too which felt really intrusive. It was such a shame - I expected better.

Ashdale Cottage is perfect for a summer holiday. The pool and the garden are lovely - beautiful outlook to trees and fields (with ponies!) Walks over the heathland and forest are just the other side of the road (also with ponies!) Great not to have to get in the car to experience this. We used the barbecue every evening for cooking and ate outside. There is excellent shade under the beautiful willow tree. Our three generation family had a very enjoyable week. New Forest Escapes responded speedily and efficiently to the few issues we had.

The main house is very comfortable with a beautiful, large lounge with a log fire where we spent our evenings relaxing and chatting. During the day we enjoyed sitting out in the sun on the garden furniture and using the hot tub ( the pool wasn’t available to use at this time of year) and the privacy of the large garden. There were a few things we weren’t happy with about the quality of the annexe, but the property manager was so helpful and came over to sort this out for us. The location is stunning and we had a walk over to Burley across the gorse and horse filled fields for a delicious pub lunch. We all came away agreeing we were relaxed and had really enjoyed our stay.
