Perfect for wild play and family escapes in the forest - with lots of extras. 'The Pig' hotel 10 mins for foodies. The cottage has a small heated pool, good garden, a deck across the whole back of the house is a proper sun-trap and inside is bright, clean and set up for families. Dogs welcome.

My family loved our stay at Heather Cottage. The house is well equipped with everything you need making it a home from home. The garden is a lovely size with the pool and trampoline; both well used by my son - an absolute bonus to have there. It was lovely to arrive at the house to two cakes and milk - such a nice touch.

Although we had a lovely stay at Heather Cottage there were a couple of things I need to say. Firstly the mattresses were very hard. Also in our opinion the bunk bed mattress was put on the floor, our request, but the room was wasted on this and it would be much more comfortable if there were a single or two singles in this room. The sofas were also uncomfortable as they were so deep our legs did not touch the floor!
There was everything you would need for your stay but a little bit of TLC is needed as it looks tired.
On saying this I would recommend it, it just needs a little updating and mattresses sorting out.

Heather Cottage is a lovely cottage set in a perfect location - close to Brockenhurst centre and with the ability to walk straight into the forest. It is very welcoming and we really liked the cake, and bottle of wine left for us! We have 2 children under 5 and they loved the garden making full use of the trampoline and little swimming pool. The house gave us plenty of space and is well appointed. The communication between New Forest Escapes was excellent with any problems or questions being resolved quickly.
It is clearly a family home rather than a full time holiday rental so some cupboards were locked and personal items were around, however there was still plenty of space to put our things away. It was clean and presented well.
One thing that did let the cottage down is the beds…. The master room only has a small double (for the price you would expect at least a king which there is room for) and the mattress was very very soft. The downstairs double conversion was extremely hard and so we made it back into a single and used both mattresses on top of each other! Finally the travel cot had no mattress and so we provided our own.
The rooms were also quite hot and no fans were provided - again for the price you think there would be. Also the duvets were so thick that we ended up just taking the duvets out and using the covers on their own to sleep under!
Finally the check out time of 10am is very early especially as we had stayed there for nearly 2 weeks and had a lot to pack up!
However all that being said, we really did love Heather Cottage and would love to stay there again next summer (especially if there were better beds!). It is a charming cottage with lovely hosts and I would recommend it.

I think this house would probably be ok for a family with children. It was extremely expensive £2800 for one week and why we had to pay £40 for each dog I have no idea. I think this a house that is lived in by the owners and only let out because of extortionate price, every cupboard was closed with cabletyes. Although the kitchen was well equipped the rest of the house lets it down. We wanted 2 bathrooms. These did not live up to expectations. One was really a cupboard with a shower and toilet extremely small, and the second was not much better. The photographs of the lounge made it look much bigger than it actually was. I can only think that everyone living in this house is over 6 feet tall as all the cupboards in the kitchen were unreachable without a step stall which there was not one available. Also there were so many rules and regulations it was almost like being back at school. As a final insult to be asked to strip beds on departure was just too much. Really for this money we expected and have indeed had better.

Hi Christine. Thanks for taking time to send your review of your recent stay at Heather Cottage. You are indeed correct, we do market this property as 'family friendly' and it is ideally set up this way, but can accommodate adult groups just as well. I do recall speaking with you prior to your stay and running through the property in detail, including the layout, bedroom configuration and sleeping arrangements for your group. We pride ourselves on being clear and honest about all our our properties and include a 'Home truths' section on our website for this purpose. We are sorry to hear you found the second bathroom small and the cupboards too high. We understand there is indeed a step to use for this reason. We encourage guests to make contact with us when they arrive should they not be happy with anything, so if we can change or do anything during your stay we will do so. We understand the house manager for Heather Cottage did try and make contact with you on several occasions during your stay and was keen to assist you, but to no avail. There are indeed more requests than normal from our guests at this time, such as removing bedding. This is only to keep our cleaners safe and make sure the properties are kept as clean as possible for our next guests. New Forest Escapes set rates and use a comprehensive pricing system that calculates rates based on demand and the area the property is located. Brockenhurst is one of our most popular villages in the area. May we add, your trip also fell within peak dates for half term school holidays. We really do hope you enjoyed your stay in this amazing location overall and made the most of what the area had to offer. With warm wishes from all at New Forest Escapes

We had a great holiday with our young children here. It felt very homely and had everything we needed. The children had lots of fun on the trampoline and in the pool and we were able to wonder across the road to play in the forest too. Also a great location to explore the New Forest and local beaches not far away.

We stayed for a week at the cottage with our children and dogs and it ticked all the boxes for a stay in the New Forrest.
The garden, with the recently installed pool and the trampoline kept our children happily occupied and the setting of the cottage, with easy access to the forest and with daily sightings of horse walking past, made for a great holiday. The Cottage had a well equipped kitchen and plenty of space for a family of 5.

Fantastic location at the heart of the new forest. Would recommend that you take or hire bikes as there are so may cycle routes to enjoy directly from the cottage. We cycled the Balmer lawn circular, to Beaulieu and Bucklers Hard and to Burley and Rhinefield arboretum. It’s such a nice way to see the forest as well as the ponies and donkeys.

The cottage is ideal for families. We had 2 families of 4 in the cottage, there was plenty of space to spread out over the 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The annex bedroom was really popular with the older children allowing them to have there own space and shower room. The kitchen is very well equipped with very beautiful hand painted china. There is an additional fridge in the garage which is perfect for wine and beer storage.

We had good weather so used the outside space every day. The decking runs the length of the cottage with lots of seating so you can dine outside if the weather is nice. The trampoline in the garden is a great addition for the kids. We loved sitting outside watching the deer run across the field behind the house at dusk, while the kids enjoyed making friends with the 2 little ponies that seemed to come to the garden fence every evening. Later on we spotted bats swooping over the garden.

Heather cottage is charming and lovely, I would definitely recommend it for a perfect new forest break.
