This ancient cob cottage has been totally 're-loved' into the 21st Century. For 6 people who want some county style iced with bohemian touches, this is for you. Beach 30 mins walk. Dogs welcome.

White Gates is a wonderful cottage with tons of charm. Very comfortable -- excellent beds, shower, kitchen etc. -- and a beautiful yard with lots of space for kids to run around. Very easy check-in and out. The location is lovely, although the walk to the beach is a bit farther than described, perhaps because some of the public footpaths seem to have been blocked off with barbed wire (unclear why). Still very doable, but more like 45 mins walking at a decent pace. Overall had a wonderful stay!

Thank you Hayley, lovely to hear you enjoyed your stay, ableit with a longer walk to the beach than expected. We're sorry to hear the footpath had been blocked, our team will be looking into this for sure. Thank you for being such great guests, you're welcome back anytime, from all at NFE x

White Gates cottage beautifully restored. The interior design is simple but stunning. The beds are comfy, the showers is fab. The location is silent.

The cottage and area are fantastic. Lovely old cottage with a modern feel.
Negatives - no coffee machine, limited comfortable seating in lounge, no storage in bedrooms, garden is not secure for dogs and next door dog visited daily. Some limited bits in kitchen.
Positives - beds very comfy, good linen and towels, amazing patio area and large garden, local pubs are great. Really liked the feel of the cottage and area.
I would definitely stay again if the garden could be secured.

Good but missing important essential finishing touches

The property has great protential but is missing some essential touches.
* Curtains: There are no curtains downstairs in the property. At night it is pitch black outside therefore it doesn't feel particularly cosy on a dark and windy winters night without curtains (especially with the lighting mentioned below). In the day, the builders are opposite doing the house up, so when you are making your way to the down stairs shower (no shower upstairs) you realise you can be seen. The upstairs curtains felt like they were a temporary measure, they weren't properly hanging on the poles and had only a small number of hooks attached to them.
* Outside lighting: It is very dark at the property this time of year, and there is no street lighting. It was very difficult leaving and arriving at the property with no outside lighting on a dark winters night. Without a torch is was pretty impossible to see anything. We could see lots of wires, but nothing had been connected.
* Inside Lighting: Lots of lights on the switches, but they didn't actually do anything.. There are no low table lamps you could put on in the evening, to give it a cozy feeling, and whilst the lights did have dimmer swiches it was still very bright at night. Coupled with no curtains, see above, it made it feel less comfortable and cozy than it should, as it has all the potential.
* There is no microwave at the property......whilst this may be the plan it's not that helpful for holiday guests looking for quick and convenient snacks as opposed to needing to get pots and pans on the go to heat anything up.
One other thing to be aware of:
* Flies: There seems to be a "small colony" of flies living in the upstairs in the window frames. At night we could here them flying around our bedroom. We opened the windows, bit it was hard to get rid of them. Maybe because it was locked up for winter, but probably need to resolve it for other guests

It is a lovely pretty house and has huge potential, but it's just not quite there yet.....and for £200 per night they are the finishing touches that I would expect at the property. I am happy to discuss.
Thanks
Andrea

Super location with good access to Lymington and beyond by car/bike. New Forest Escape insider guides were a great resource for an action packed stay. If we visit again we might choose to take it slower but good weather was so perfect for exploring somewhere new each day.
