Approach this beautifully tranquil, picturesque cottage via a private drive that winds alongside the river. It has outstanding vistas that stretch down past the river to the Lake. You can stroll over the bridge to the shores of Lake Windermere or relax in the extensive gardens.

We had a lovely stay at Mill Cottage.
A couple of things that could be improved, little things like the hand wash, fairy liquid etc all ran out during our stay, so we had to buy extra, these could be full at the start of the week so you don’t run out.
There were also quite a lot of cars doing work/visiting the barns whilst we were there which wasn’t ideal with a dog and a toddler.
Overall though it is a lovely cottage in a great location and perfect for visiting places in the surrounding areas ☺️

There was no provision for the replacement/change of bedding and towels.
Not sure who was responsible for this but a 12 night stay in the same bedding and use of the same towels is not acceptable.
I would recommend the property but with a warning to establish arrangements for above.

The Mill Cottage and surrounding property is absolutely beautiful. Truly like living in a fairly tale. The cottage was just as described, but the photos just can’t do it justice. On our first day the ferry was closed which which was a real inconvenience for our plans to visit Windermere and Bowness. That turned out to be a blessing in disguise since we were able to explore the Graythwaite property and the quaint town of Hawkshead. If you enjoy walking as much as we do you will love this area. We also rented e-bikes which I highly recommend to tour this side of the lake. Do NOT venture into Windermere, Bowness, or Ambleside on a bike. Those are not bike or pedestrian friendly places. Look both ways before sprinting across the roads.

Well located (for the Lake) and very spacious cottage with powerful heating and shower. Excellent for wild swimming and SUP. Which we needed during a very wet August week and storm which did take down a power line leading to a six hour power cut. With seven blown lights, a dead TV remote, mould in the washing machine, the odd cobweb and a few other things the property could have been a bit better prepared but maintenance fixed most of these. We found the beds pretty hard.

A charming cottage, tucked away in a quiet off-the-road area and 2 minutes walk from the lake shore. Clean and comfortable throughout.

Beautiful setting just a short walk from the shores of Windermere. First visit this year to another of Graythwaite’s charming property’s. A well equipped comfortable cottage highly recommended for walking round the local area.
If you’re lucky enough to be there when the pop-up camp site is open, which is just a short walk along the lake, you definitely need to pop along and join the friendly staff around the fire pits for toasted marshmallows and a drink from the converted horse box.

Loved our stay at Mill cottage. The cottage is tucked away down a private road with the river running through the garden and the lake a few hundred yards away. There are lovely, if muddy, walks from the doorstep which is just what we needed.
The cottage has everything you will need and the view from the main bedroom is beautiful.

A wonderful stay, made even more fabulous from the access to the Lake below the house, so hours spent on the kayak and the children exploring their own Island!….and a truly memorable walk up to Old Man Coniston !!

Whilst perhaps lacking the wow factor when we arrived, the house served our purposes really well and we enjoyed our stay very much. Warm, decent kitchen, near the lake, great base for exploring. And we were allowed bring our 3 dogs who loved their stay! Great base for GraythWaite adventures.

Mill cottage was very nice, clean there was everything in the cottage you needed you could not fault the property at all and was lovely having the garden ideal if you have a dog.
The location was stunning. So peaceful and quiet and relaxing and just a few minutes walk from the edge of lake was beautiful with the views over the lake. It was a lovely walk along the waters edge. I would definitely recommend Mill cottage.

Our first time at Graythwaite and we were very favourably impressed. The Mill Cottage is completely alone, with an approach along a forest track, and it was spotless. A very thoughtful welcome pack was waiting for us in the kitchen that included a delicious lemon drizze cake, ground coffee and tea bags. The fittings are top class, and the beds were extremely comfortable. The only thing that we could fault was the kettle - which refused to turn itself off ! :-) Overall, a very relaxing week in an extremely well-presented cottage - thank you.

A short walk from the lake to carry the canoe to, most places we visited within our 2 week holiday were within a 30mins drive. A quiet relaxing cottage to stay in a great location for us.

This was a comfortable cottage but it doesn’t have a particularly homely/cosy feel. Gas fire didn’t work, no wood fire. Kitchen had the basics but no more. Beds very comfortable, lovely views. Very easy access to the water - 200m walk - which was great for paddle boarding. It’s about a 10 minute drive to the pool (which is excellent) and definitely not cycling/walking distance with young kids due to the distance/hill. The property is semi-detached and the attached cottage looks very run down/derelict. The cottage is also next to some derelict farm buildings which somewhat spoils the view. We did not feel this was made clear to us in advance. Would recommend but I don’t think we’d rush back.

The cottage is in a fantastic location, very peaceful, and within very easy reach if the lake shore. Rawlinson Nab, along the lake shore path to the south, is a great place to sit and watch the world go by. The cottage itself is comfortable, well equipped, and easy to find, despite being off the beaten track. Couple of things would improve the cottage……….small tables next to the chairs in the lounge so you have somewhere to put a drink and the mattress in the main bedroom was vey bouncy and could be with a change. For some reason the arrival instructions had the wrong key code on them, which needs to be put right.

Lovely cottage if you are looking to escape...great walks along the lake shore straight from your front door. The cottage had everything we needed and Bowness is only 15 mins away as long as you don’t have to wait for the ferry, we didn’t We loved the the secluded feel to the place.
