This quirky cottage sits in Braithwaite, a pretty Lakeland village in the North Lakes tucked between Grisedale Pike and Skiddaw where the unspoilt Newlands Dale joins the Valley of Derwent.

Comfortable, enjoyable stay

Very nice stay. Bath and shower were difficult as I'm very tall and my wife has limited movement.
Fridge is also tricky for tall people. Otherwise great

Braithwaite is a very pleasant, picturesque village on the bus route to Keswick , as well as other walking destinations. If I could put it in my pocket and take it home, I would.

The village shop is very useful and the owner kindly offered to open it up for us after it was closed when we arrived after an eleven- hour drive.(Warm croissants , fresh bread ( both baked on site ) and milk , fresh orange juice etc.or you can buy brunch there.)

The cottage is cosy and we found it warm and clean ( July). Unusual for Keswick was the pretty seating area in the well- maintained garden, with pretty shrubs / flowers round the terraced area. The owner arrived to put a new sunshade up while we were there which we thought a nice touch.

With someone’s large vintage car ( not moved while we were there ) parked partly across Spa’s space outside, parking in the dark/ wet was tricky some days and we drove round the corner to the chapel, as indicated in the guidance booklet in the cottage. (We knew where the guidance meant, but a simple map showing the lane would help people who don’t know the village. )
Apart from that, there is -generally - good- natured give and take by other cottage- users and owners.

The kitchen can be a challenge if you cannot reach the microwave and have an ICD so can’t use the hob - my very good- natured husband sighed but cooked. I owe him. If we stayed again we would plan one or two- pot cooking.

Great cottage with everything you could need, very well equipped. Lovely welcome pack. Views of Skiddaw from the window were amazing! Perfect location for walks from the door and to the local pub The Coledale. Only downside was that the bed was too soft for us.

Cosy and comfortable, Spa Cottage is ideally located for a Lake District holiday. Well equipped and very clean, we really appreciated being able to hike straight from the front door some days. The friendly village shop opposite provides all essentials plus delicious treats. Communication with the host was excellent both before and during our stay and we will definitely return.

Lovely cottage in one of our favourite locations. Ideal position in the village across the road from the shop. It was on-street parking and as we stayed at Easter, the parking was a nightmare. For this reason we wouldn’t stay here again. Which is such a shame because we loved the cottage. Good quality furnishings - including duvet and bedding - and well resourced in the kitchen.

Spa Cottage is perfect in every way. This was our second visit in January and won’t be our last
It’s very homely and comfortable and lacks nothing with a well equipped kitchen too.
It’s warm and cozy with option to put the log burner on, although the heating is wonderful
Internet is fast, TV is free view so lots of choice
The beds are very welcoming after a day on the Fells. The bath is deeeeeeep!!
Our dogs stayed in the dining room so safely and cleanly restricted to one room with the kitchen for water. Enclosed garden assures their safely too and the nearest Fell literally up the road for early morning or later afternoon leg stretch
With the shop, now with a cafe, across the road, you can nip there in your dressing gown!

Thank you so much for your 5-star review! We love that you're returning guests to Spa Cottage! We are so happy you found it comfortable, warm, cosy and had a well equipped kitchen. We are so glad you liked the log burner, a perfect way to keep warm on those cold nights! We are so pleased you found the internet fast and enjoyed watching TV. We are happy to know you found the beds very welcoming after a day out exploring the fells and that you enjoyed lounging in the bath to soothe your muscles after hiking. Its great to know your dogs had a great time too and we hope they enjoyed exploring the enclosed garden after a hike up Barrow. The village shop is a great feature of the village, it is very well equipped with lots of local produce and gifts, and now they've added a café its perfect to sit in and enjoy a drink and some food. We hope you had another wonderful time and we can't wait to welcome you back on your next visit! Best Wishes, Keswick Cottages
