The Lean To House

The Lean To House was renovated in 2021 at Torr Vale Mill. This property was originally the old store room, which as it implies was used to store a variety of items required by the cotton mill. With it's modern amenities, it has a lovely full corridor length of windows which face the main mill and look over the courtyard. The bedrooms at the back look onto a lovingly landscaped area from which you can listen to the sounds of the river and nature at it's best.

I stayed here the night before my wedding, and we stayed here the night after. I had stayed at the Mill before and then we had decided to hold our wedding there. It was very exciting to arrive and find it all set up for getting ready in the morning. The bed is very comfy and the shower room is nice. The second bedroom was set up as a dressing area, but has a day bed with truckle that can be used. Of course, I hardly slept on the first night there, and I woke up early. This was not the fault of the apartment!
Breakfast is served in Torr Vale Tap which is a 30 second walk away. You have to hand your breakfast requests in at the bar, before 7pm the night before. This was a great addition to the service, as they hadn’t done this when I stayed previously. The breakfasts were lovely (they know what they’re doing with the scrambled egg). I also felt like a local celebrity when I went into the bar in my wedding dress with the breakfast orders!
I would definitely recommend this place, it’s obviously close to my heart now. I just wish I’d kept the drawing I did of the mill building when I was a kid and lived in New Mills. Having the wedding here felt like coming home. I will have to find a wedding venue review page where I can write more about this.
Having stayed here in more normal circumstances too, I will mention that it’s deceptively close to the centre of New Mills so you can walk through, but it’s also nicely tucked away. Not far from a railway station and a couple of bus routes, and there is parking at the top. Do your research if you have mobility issues- this apartment is up a short flight of steps, and the whole place is down a slope in the valley. They have other apartments too. Also there is the Cheese Wheel practically next door (I just remembered).
Overall a really good place to stay even if you’re not getting married.

The Lean to House is a charming space in the beautiful setting of Torr Vale Mill; accessed via steps it is a cosy, well furnished space with everything one would need for a stay. The kitchen is well equipped and the welcome basket was such a delightful touch and contained so much! The double beds in each room are huge, comfortable and complete with soft bedding. The bathroom is spacious and really well positioned at the end of the corridor. We used the house for my bridal party to get ready in on the morning of our wedding and it made for a light, bright space for us to have hair and make up done as well as to get dressed and have photographs in. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend and rebook to stay here. Thanks to the team.

Was advised that they would hold my card details for approximately 7 day’s after departure in case of damages. Money was taken from my account same day. Laminate floor was rather dirty on arrival. Great location. Bit overpriced for what you receive

This place has everything needed. Clean and comfortable with excellent amenities. Hosts were extremely friendly and so welcoming; we couldn’t have asked for a better stay. The location is also awe-inspiring and the information provided was so helpful. The bedrooms were so nice!

We went with our 2 kids 4 & 6 - they thoroughly enjoyed it as did we.
Great little place and easy access to the Peak District and all it has to offer, millennium walkway and neighbouring walks were fantastic and right on your doorstep, very much recommended
