The Old Stables is a little slice of rural magic. The 19th Century stable block has been refurbished and modernised to make it a stunning small holiday bolthole on the Godwick estate.

We traveled from East Devon, to our son’s wedding. It was such a welcoming, great location, in fact perfect. The stables were very comfortable done.

The house was really lovely - even better than the photos; booking and checking in and out was all really straightforward and efficient. We had a wonderful break and would go again.



We enjoyed our stay. Peaceful & excellent location.

We enjoyed our stay. Peaceful, rural & excellent location, within half an hour of all the places we wanted to visit. Lovely barn and beautifully situated and thoughtfully laid out. View across the garden were picturesque. The Victoria sponge and hamper, along with the slippers made us feel very welcomed after our long journey. The owner contacted me to make sure we were all OK which added a friendly touch.






Would love to come back!

Such a relaxing stay. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Great garden to play ball. Easy walk to the “lost village” and the turkeys from the house. Great location to get to beaches, explore Norman castle, and country walks. House really comfortable for the whole family. Lots of space for playing games, cooking, watching films, and even privacy. Great showers and baths. Love that owners provided all the basics like toilet paper, kitchen essentials, dishwasher soap, shampoo. (Only thing missing was wardrobe or dresser...but definitely not a reason not to stay there). Would love to come back!

Accommodation, bedrooms and quality of furnishings all very good quality, as one would expect in property of this type and cost. And location very restful and relaxing. But a few "niggles". Given its rural location and distance from shops and restaurants I imagine a family, or party of 6 such as we were, staying for more than a few days would need a fridge and freezer larger than that provided. Similarly, unless washing up was done after each course of a meal you would immediately run out of crockery and cutlery. We had arranged a chef to prepare evening dinner so had to arrange for extra of each - which James was quick to supply. But a better, more plentiful supply would help. A few basics also missing such as a sizeable teapot.

Bedroom accommodation and layout very good, but less sure of lounge configuration. A 6 seater sofa facing towards the wall-mounted TV is good for viewing, but hardly conducive to conversation if guests retire there after a meal or if unable to sit outside..

Excellent Host - James

Barn was superb, amazing layout & size

Garden was beautiful and large

Flies were a bit of a pest, but seemed to disappear as the week went on

Would benefit from a curtain/blind in the lounge looking out to the car park for the main house

Overall, a very nice stay that exceeded it expectations

We stayed for our daughters wedding weekend. The accommodation was great with a wonderful private outdoor garden. Although we were there mixing with the other guests staying in the hall the stable accommodation was its own self contained oasis of beauty with great views across the fields.
We would definitely return.
