Thoroughly enjoyed our escape into the beautiful countryside nestled in the mountains. We were treated to a week of sunshine and the Byre was the perfect location to enjoy this with our little pup! Very comfortable and well equipped with a really lovely welcome box full of local goodies.

We loved our stay at the Byre, it had everything you could possibly need for a week’s stay. Nice and cosy in the evenings following our walks with the wood burner and plenty of logs provided. We enjoyed seeing some great wildlife including the red squirrels…

We spent the last week in The Byre with our puppy Norman and it was perfect. The Byre is a stunning cottage in a beautiful location. The cottage was incredibly clean when we arrived and the level of detail displayed the thought Carly and Richard put into their properties. The toiletries supplied were high quality and also totally sustainable as were all the cleaning products. A bird feeder was full and placed in full view of one of the sofas. These are just 2 examples of many details that had been thought of. It was a cracking cottage and we will definitely return.

We take our dogs on at least one holiday per year, this year we decided on a trip to Cumbria. Having two large GSD, it is essential we find the right property to rent. The Byre filled all our requirements. large enough to accommodate four adults as well as the dogs, with an outside secure area for the dogs to play in. Extremely comfortable and well equipped, with lots of extra thought gone into things we might need for our stay (touches, picnic set, umbrella's etc). Great walks straight from the property and a wonderful pub to stop into afterwards for a scrumptious meal. We visited several areas locally as well as further afield. The owners were friendly and available if we required anything. We would definitely book again if we find ourselves every coming back to Cumbria.

We had a brilliant time in the Byre. The cottage was fantastic, really clean and comfortable with everything we could need including loads of kitchen stuff. The welcome basket was a nice touch and having milk and butter there on arrival was great. We loved the upside down arrangement and the views from the lounge. Beds were comfortable, good showers. Kids enjoyed playing chess on the mezzanine! A highlight for me was the red squirrels in the garden and just the variety of birds around at the feeders. We saw bats at night too and hares on the fields nearby.
We did some walks locally including Green Bell from the door and Cautley Spout. We also went across to Ullswater & Kendal which aren’t far so a great location for exploring.
All in all a beautiful peaceful stay and we would all highly recommend. Definitely one of the best holiday cottages we have ever stayed in!

I recently booked all 3 properties at The Green for my 50th birthday. The standard of all them is off the charts. I’ve stayed in plenty of holiday lets, but the thought that has gone into equipping these is next level. Could not have wanted more and were even given a lift to the station when taxis proved to be an issue.

Beautiful location and excellent accommodation with all you might need. From the well equipped kitchen to the comfy beds everything has been well thought out. The welcome basket is a very nice touch. The enclosed garden is a bonus, especially if you have a dog, as are the visits from the red squirrels and fell ponies. The countryside is right on the doorstep with an abundance of walks for all abilities and the village with a choice of 2 pubs for dining is only a pleasant 20 minute walk away. This is a superb offering.

Well equipped cottage in a very rural position with fabulous views a short walk from the property. Carly is an excellent host and very helpful with a couple of things during our stay. Conveniently positioned between the Lakes and the Dales for anyone wanting to visit both. Would definitely recommend if you need an away from it all break!

Just back from a week in the dales staying in the Byre. Everything you need is provided including a picnic set we didn't get the chance to use. Uber dog friendly accommodation is hard to find but Green Cumbria provided shampoo / sponge & basin that came in handy as the moors can get messy for mutley. The hosts are next door if you need anything & very accommodating. Even let me charge my EV which was really handy & saved stopping on the drive home. The house is spotless & a welcome pack which goes a long way to settling in after a long drive.
Already planning to return later in the year.
Book with conference for a welcome break in Cumbria / Yorkshire dales.
PS the village pubs are excellent & only a 20 minute walk away.

We booked the Byre for a week over New Year 2023. Knowing the weather could do anything at that time of year (and it did) it was important to have somewhere spacious, comfortable and well-equipped. We definitely weren't disappointed. The cottage was spotlessly clean and felt like home from home. The location is quiet but not too isolated. We walked to the village, sampled both pubs (great food) and also explored further afield by car between the downpours. Having an enclosed courtyard and a great utility/boot room made it much easier to cope with a wet dog too. Red squirrels and fell ponies on the doorstep were an added bonus. Already thinking about returning.

This was our second visit to The Green although a different cottage as The Haystore we stayed in previously was booked.
We love it, it’s perfect for us & our dogs.
Lovely, spotlessly clean & comfortable cottage that you won’t be disappointed with if you decide to book.
A little pricey maybe but you really do get what you pay for.

The Byrne, part of The Green Cumbria is a wonderful barn conversion in the peaceful hills around the bottom of Howgill Fells. The Byrne itself has everything you could possibly need for a relaxing holiday, Carly & Richard have thought of everything and as the blurb says you don’t need to bring much with you. On that point, I loved the App which can be downloaded with the information needed, very helpful. The Byrne is an upside down cottage with bedrooms downstairs and living space upstairs. The vaulted high ceiling gave a lovely airy feel and a sense of space to relax in. The welcome pack of local produce was a lovely touch and great to see you supporting other local business in this way. Having the range of OS maps in the cottage was great too as that allowed us to get them out in full across the table and plan some walks with ease. As previously said Carly & Richard have thought of everything to make the stay relaxing, comfortable and enjoyable. Seeing the sheep every morning as we drove out always made me smile, they have such friendly faces! I would highly recommend a stay at the Byrne.

Stayed for the second time at The Green - it is like home from home. Beautifully presented, great attention to detail with bonuses of a welcome basket, milk, butter etc. Very cosy and warm, great views, everything you could need is provided for. The App that tells you all you need to know is very comprehensive. Sustainability is very important at The Green and it’s great to see their commitment.
Amazing walks straight from the front door in all directions and for all abilities, and plenty of bird life to watch. The whole standard of a stay at The Green is excellent, as is the welcome and comfort.

The booking was seemless, the communications were clear, frequent and helpful, the barn is warm, inviting and superbly appointed. The walks from the door are a joy. The Howgills on the doorstep, the viaducts and rural industrial heritage to the north were the highlights for us this time.
We appreciated very much the attention to detail in the barn itself. A return visit is planned as there is much more to explore!

We had a lovely relaxing time. We really enjoyed the tranquility and the incredibly quiet location.The bird song was truly magical and seeing the red squirrels everyday. Great walks out the door. Skies amazing at night great views of day from the balcony. Lovely seating out area with cushion stored away for your use. Nice bbq area by the beck.Thankful for hose and towels to wash dogs off with as some fields very muddy close by. Tesco delivery was a a added bonus and would highly recommend, book well in advance to get a slot. Sadly didn’t get to meet Carly & Richard this time.

The family stayed at this excellent venue to celebrate a special birthday. We used all three cottages. They are well equipped with everything one would ever need. The furnishings are fitting of this great conversion. A very tranquil and peaceful setting. We all left less stressed and relaxed Carly and Richard have magical place for people to relax and de-stress. The open air swimming pool went down well with the youngsters and adults. Great walks to the waterfalls and pools to cool of in. A definite area of outstanding beauty.

The Byre is a stunning place to stay. Beds are super comfortable. Kitchen well stocked. The welcome pack was really appreciated.
Only one slight issue for us.. maybe not for others, as the weather was dreadful, we spent nights in and it was difficult to watch TV in a comfortable position from the sofa area.

The Carthouse is part of a huge old barn that has been completely gutted and refurbished to a very high standard while still maintaining a charming echo of its rustic past. Bedrooms, kitchens and bathrooms are furnished and decorated beautifully with everything you could possibly need to hand as well as countless thoughful additions and finishing touches.
The setting, in the Howgill fells of Cumbria, is to my mind the most beautiful spot in the country. There are expansive hills and valleys for the kind of walking that reminds you what is is to be alive; countless becks (small rivers) and picnic spots where children can play endlessly paddling, making dams, fishing for tiddlers or if you're small, just throwing stones into the water.
The local village, Ravenstonedale is a great place with two good pubs, a lovely old church and plenty of friendly locals.
I came to the Green with my extended family so we took all three of the properties (the Carthouse, Haystore and Byre) and had a magical time throughout our stay. For this reason I have duplicated this review for all three places but I know I speak for all 13 of us when I say that despite being seasoned travellers, (with more than a couple of centuries experience between us), we have never stayed anywhere better.

The Byre was absolutely perfect, it had everything we needed for a relaxing holiday, right down to the beautiful smelling ’Bath House’ toiletries. The accommodation was immaculate but with a lovely homely feel, we settled in straight away. The location is exceptionally beautiful and ideally situated for both The Lakes & Dales and the sun shone every day, what more could we ask for. We’ll definitely be returning.

The Green exceeded our expectations and there was everything you needed to make your holiday feel special. This is our first time holidaying in the Yorkshire Dales - Ravenstondale and the surrounding area are of breathtaking beauty and we’ll definitely book The Green again.

Had an amazing week staying at the Byre. The cottage was very well equipped, the owners were so friendly and had thought of everything. The welcome pack of treats waiting for us on the first day was a nice surprise.
The owners made the whole process of booking very easy, going above and beyond to fit us all in. The app with all the information in was very useful.
We all enjoyed a brilliant week especially the visits from the red squirrels.

The Byre is a lovely property, well presented, very comfortable and with everything you could possibly think of supplied, as well as its own secure gravel garden to the front, perfect for keeping your little ones or fur babies safe.
We received a very warm welcome from owner Carly, upon arrival and there was a lovely welcome pack waiting for us inside too. The area around the property was beautiful and extremely quiet, with only the sounds of sheep, birds etc and I was lucky enough to get a glimpse of a red squirrel.
The village of Ravenstonedale is a few minutes drive or 20/25 mins walk, where you'll find 2 pubs, both of which provide lovely food and on a Monday there's a local takeaway pizza service [you'll find details for this in the information pack in the property]. The nearest supermarket, shops, cafes etc are in Kirkby Stephen, which is only 4 miles away.
We'd certainly picked the right week to visit, as the weather was hot and sunny all week, although it also restricted us from doing too much, due to us having a 13 week old puppy and was therefore too hot to take him out during the day, but this gave us the opportunity to enjoy short walks from our doorstep and simply relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

A beautiful barn conversion equipped with everything you might want and need for a holiday stay, including a very generous welcome selection of delicious goodies, toys for the children, comfy beds, a picnic rucksack... and the setting is fabulous, lots of lovely quiet places to sit outside, by the burbling stream, watching the birds and squirrels, and brilliant walks right from the door. A real gem.
